Forms 10g Migration : Labels on Buttons get shrinked.
Hi All ,
We have forms from 5/6i converted into forms 10g but observed that on the migrated form Labels on Buttons get shrinked and show up half instead of full.
First case ,why does this happen ? If so what is the soln. for this.
One solution might to select each button and change its height , but do you think there is any better way to do it so that it applies to all buttons on the canvas ...
Thanks,
Hi ,
I have used the sam cooridnate system as in forms 5.
Can you please let me know if this would have any impact to do with the labels size on buttons and other text items.
I so what value should I change it to.
I have Real : point as my coirdinate system currently .
Thanks ,

Oracle reports 6i to Oracle forms 10g migration
Hi,
I have .rdf files which were created on Oracle Reports 6i. I would like to migrate the .rdf files into Oracle Reports module which is present as a part of Oracle Forms 10g to generate PDF output.
Please let me know the detailed steps to be followed as I am a total newbie. Also I need to generate these reports on demand from a java 5 application (JSF 2.0).
Currently for ORacle reports 6i, I have the following code in my java application
rwrun60.exe g:\tomcat33\webapps\reports\web-inf\src\null userid=***/*** destype=FILE desformat="pdf" paramform=NO printjob=NO batch=YES desname=temp.pdf
1. What would be the equivalent for reports in ORacle Forms 10g ? I know there is an Oracle Apps server where ther report services reside. How to I invoke my report from my java application (residing on a weblogic server 10.3.6)?
2. What ould I do with the 6i .rdf files to upgrade them to 10g ?I am trying to call an Oracle report i.e .rdf (which is located on the Oracle App Server) from my java EE 5 (JSF) application. The Oracle App server is Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2. I assume Oracle report generation capability is available in this release. I need to invoke the report from my Java JSF application on demand (whenever the user clicks a button on the web browser page, the report should appear on the browser as PDF) . My java application resides on Linux weblogic server.
Please let me know how it can be done ? I see rwclient.sh and another method to directly invoke using a URL. How do I do it on java, would a request.redirect() to the URL work ?
Also for hiding the params in the URL. keys need to be configured on the Oracle server right ?
Also if we use rwclient.sh or the URL based invocation, would there be any issue in concurrency when multiple users request the same report at the same time ? -
Forms 10g Migration : Menu attached to form appears on MDI Window.
Hi All ,
On migration of forms 5/6i into forms 10g observed that the Menu Module attached to a form appears on MDI window and not attached to the main window of the form.
How do we ensure that the Menu and the Horizontal toolbar attached to the form appear on the main window of the form and not on the MDI Window ?
Kindly help please ...
Thanks ,Hi,
I have same issue. Did you find any solution ?
Please let me know.

How to generate .xls file on a button click in Forms 10g
Hi
I am using forms 10g.
On a button click I want to generate a .csv or .xls file (data in these file should be fetched form database).
Could you please tell me how can I do this?
RegardsHello 576726,
where do you want to store the file?
On the client? If it uses Windows as OS and has Excel installed you can use CLIENT_OLE2, otherwise you can write files using CLIENT_TEXT_IO.
On the server? You can use utl_file or a package that allowes to write formatted/multiple worksheets like
https://xml-spreadsheet.samplecode.oracle.com/ or
https://exceldocumenttype.samplecode.oracle.com/
Another solution by Friedhold Matz is linked at Re: Gride in Oracle Formns 6i

Forms 10g Design Rich User Interface
Dear All,
i would link to design rich user interface in forms 10g.
for example : the button shape is circle , not only
rectangle.
Is it possible to do that in forms 10g or import some java object from third party tools.
best regards
borisysBorisys,
the concept of Pluggable Java Comnponents (PJC) allows you that. PJC only change the UI of a component without affecting its functionality.
The Forms demos that are available on otn.oracle.com/products/forms contain enhanced buttons in teh form of mouse over effects.

Overwrite .fmx in Forms 10g for Production
Forms 6 to Forms 10g migration:
In production environment, how can we deploy new version of application's fmx file over existing one of the same name without causing any downtime?
The client machines' OS is Windows whereas the server machine's OS is HP-UX RISC. It is reported to me that overwriting a .fmx file will cause the connected clients to crash. However, customer has the requirement to keep system up when replacing particular .fmx application modules in production time.
GeoffreyWell, the original question was a bit vague. I know you can have 6i and 10g running at the same time, but you do have to switch between the two environments (it's a different URL to the 6i or 10g server). I.e. you cannot have a 6i fmx file replaced with a 10g fmx without the user noticing anything.
It could be that the original poster just means "we have upgraded our forms 6i to 10g and we want to be able to quickly patch the upgraded 10g forms without the user noticing anything". I guess that is a more likely situation than a gradual upgrade from 6i to 10g. -
How can I resolve the push button dot issue in oracle forms 10g..?
Hi All,
We have migrated to forms6i to forms10g, in 6i all the push button labels are displaying properly, but in 10g forms its giving dots like this … after displaying some characters. I guess its width problem but how come its changing in 10g alone.
Kindly give me any workaround to resolve this issue

Forms 6i to 10g Migration Questions
Hi,
My company is thinking about migrating Forms 6i to 10g. I wonder if you can share some of your experience with us (and with thousands of others who will also face the same daunting task)
1. How do you like/dislike Forms 10g after the migration?
2. What are the pitfalls of Forms 10g? What are the strengths?
3. Other than Oracle Migration tools, is there any other tools that can help us?
4. How long is the migration process typically taken?
5. What problems have been encountered in the upgrade process?
Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
John SunMay I answer your question with some questions of my own? :)
1. Are you migrating from Forms6i client-server or web?
2. If Web, to a non-Windows middle tier (hopefully)?
3. Do you plan to incorporate OID/SSO and/or Portal in the new environment?
I just reached the end of a 6-month long prototyping project to migrate our Forms/Reports 6i application (80% client-server, 20% web) to 10g, using SSO and Portal for report destination. We migrated about a dozen forms of varying complexity and rewrote our main application/menu form. We originally thought the prototype would take 3-4 months. The purpose was to learn what we needed to develop the best migration approach and have an idea of what it would cost. The application has about 650 forms/reports modules. Costs and the learning curve prohibited a move to J2EE/ADF; oh I wished... Management is hoping we can complete the full migration in about a year, but I think... well, this is a public forum and I am using my real name. ;)
We've only been using 10g release 2 since the end of January. Stay away from release 1 at all costs. Even release 2 is not what I would call entirely stable. I just opened a SR on MetaLink a few days ago for a problem I was able to recreate where the use of a button on a form-level toolbar that directly or indirectly call_forms a new form, and then navigation occurs back to the original form (say, when trying to minimize or rearrange widows) causes the session to crash with the infamous ORA-92101. We rely heavily on a hierarchical tree for our application menu, and keyboard navigation on the tree is somewhat broken (tree triggers not firing).
However, many long-standing 6i bugs have been fixed, and I really, REALLY do appreciate being at PL/SQL version 10 in Forms.
But we have some real challenges too, some self-inflicted. Some 400 of our application forms were converted from SQL*Forms 3.0 via Kumaran a while back. This is admittedly our greatest challenge. The V3 forms, being they were character-based with no mouse support, had lots of code in Key-navigation triggers that was never meant to be in navigation triggers (validation, etc) and would get bypassed if the user skipped the field using a mouse. Kumaran solved this problem using mouse triggers which are no longer supported on the web. We also are attempting to introduce some enhancements during the migration like become Section 508 compliant.
I did not opt to use the migration tool; it doesn't really do that much for you anyway.
One headache for us was Reports. We eliminated many temporary tables (permanent tables created temporarily) in user schemas for the use of global temporary tables. Granted, this feature showed up in Oracle9i. But in 10g, we found inadvertently that database sessions for reports are initiated by a java process and reused for performance, meaning different reports sometimes (and unpredictably) are sharing database sessions instead of getting their own. It would've been nice to know this beforehand because it was a challenge to find out the hard way.
My biggest complaint is that Forms still lags behind in features that are part of the application server. For example, I would've loved to implement Enterprise Users and rid our database of the many thousands of user accounts. But Forms doesn't support it. And Oracle really should have provided a migration tool to create the OID resource that links the OID user account via SSO to the database account. Especially since Forms only works with database accounts. All we got was a 9i-based White Paper on the APIs to write our own. This is Oracle data, not application data for heavens sake!
I've opened easily over a hundred SRs during this time, and am quite sure that my name is mud by now and that I have lost any chance of ever getting hired by Oracle. ;)
If your DBAs are database-centric and not used to administering a middle tier-- or administer an old middle-tier like 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2, get them into instructor-led training on 10g administration BEFORE they have to install the 10g infrastructure and middle tiers. The architecture is radically changed and infinitely more complex. As far as the workload the developers will face; Forms is still pretty much Forms, but the state of your existing code will play into it.
I was so tired of spending years on older versions of Oracle software. And I am proud to announce that I am now intimately familiar with what is known as The Bleeding Edge. -
Calling Reports from forms after migrating to 10g
Hi all,
I have migrated forms to 10g. Now, few of those forms have a button_block where some buttons have a WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED trigger, and in that they are calling the reports. Now I need to change it.
I have the following logic in it.
declare
musername varchar2(20);
mpassword varchar2(20);
mconnect varchar2(20);
mparameter varchar2(50);
mcommand varchar2(120);
malert number;
begin
musername := Get_Application_Property(USERNAME);
mpassword := Get_Application_Property(PASSWORD);
mconnect := Get_Application_Property(CONNECT_STRING);
mparameter:= 'mreceipt_no='||:global.receipt_no||' mreceipt_category_code='||:global.category_code;
mcommand := 'r25run.exe module=report_name.rep userid='||musername||'/'||mpassword||'@'||mconnect||' '||rtrim(ltrim(mparameter));
host(mcommand,NO_SCREEN);
exception
when others then
message('error');
end;No I need to change, the line
mcommand := 'r25run.exe module=report_name.rep userid='||musername||'/'||mpassword||'@'||mconnect||' '||rtrim(ltrim(mparameter));
How do I use run_report_object for this??Hi
here is a complete example on how to call a report from a parameter form 10g
DECLARE
PARAM_ID PARAMLIST ;
PARAM_NAME VARCHAR2(30) := 'REPORT_PARAMETER';
ALRT NUMBER;
ERR_TXT VARCHAR2(1000);
repid REPORT_OBJECT;
v_rep VARCHAR2(100);
v_REP_SERVER_NAME VARCHAR2(200);
v_ip VARCHAR2(100);
BEGIN
PARAM_ID := GET_PARAMETER_LIST(PARAM_NAME);
IF NOT ID_NULL(PARAM_ID) THEN
DESTROY_PARAMETER_LIST('REPORT_PARAMETER');
END IF;
v_REP_SERVER_NAME := REP_SERVER_NAME;
BEGIN
SELECT PARAMETER_VALUE -- this is the selection of the server ip stored into a tabel u could assign it into a variabel.
INTO v_ip
FROM GENERAL_FIXED_PARAMETERS
WHERE PARAMETER_ID = 'REPORT_SERVER_IP';
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
Message ('OTHERS' || SQLCODE || ' And ' || SQLERRM);
Message ('OTHERS' || SQLCODE || ' And ' || SQLERRM);
END;
PARAM_ID := CREATE_PARAMETER_LIST(PARAM_NAME);
ADD_PARAMETER(PARAM_ID,'PARAMFORM',TEXT_PARAMETER,'NO');
ADD_PARAMETER(PARAM_ID,'COPIES',TEXT_PARAMETER,:COPIES);
ADD_PARAMETER(PARAM_ID,'P_DISPLAY',TEXT_PARAMETER,:DESTYPE);
ADD_PARAMETER(PARAM_ID,'DESFORMAT',TEXT_PARAMETER,'pdf');
ADD_PARAMETER(PARAM_ID,'group_id',TEXT_PARAMETER, :group_id);
repid := find_report_object('WH_R01_GRP_ITEM');
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_SERVER,v_rep_server_name);
v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid,PARAM_ID);
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://'||V_IP||'/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?server='||v_REP_SERVER_NAME,'_blank');
END;
Hope this helps...

Migrating forms from 6i to forms 10g
Hi all,
We plan to migrate the current forms 6i to forms 10g. Can you please suggest/advise the advantages of forms 10g to that of forms 6i.
thanks in advance
ChettarjeeHi
the one main big advantage is that you will have Oracle support in 10g. 6i is not supported any more. Other benefits are 10g is more open to Java . You can call out to Web service and java apis. REfer to the forms otn page for more 10g features.

Thanks,
VenkatGraphics no longer exists in Developer Suite 10G. You have to replace the functionality , e.g. by using BI Beans. Have a look at the samples page http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/products/forms/index.html

This tells me you are using a 3rd party or locally developed Java Bean to perform some type of print function. Is this correct?
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed.Does your printtext.jar Java Bean need to open an HTTP connection in order to print?
Have you been able to print in the past using this Java Bean? Where did you get the Java Bean?
RegisterWebUtil - Loading WebUtil Version 10.1.2.0Your form appears to be using WebUtil. Has it been successfully configured?
Honestly, you need to list the following minimum information when you post a question; it gives us all or most of the information we need to help you and it eliminates the need for us to ask for this information. Please always include:
* Forms Version (eg; 10.1.2.0.0 not 10g)
* Java Version
* Client OS version
* What you were doing when the error occured.

How to replace the forms6i menu parameter in forms 10g after migration
Hai,
We have forms6i application and we are going to migrate forms6i into forms 10g .The forms 6i have the menu userdefine parameter.But forms 10g don't have the option. so please send me the suggesstion what we can do .Is there any alternative way.How to bring the same funtionality in forms 10g after the migration.pls reply me
THANKSWe had the same problem - you could develop a new form just to accept the necessary user input, but that might be overkill. We used Forms Editors, displaying them with an appropriate startup text e.g. 'Parameter1='. The user then types in the parameter, then we check the new Editor text and pull out the info we need.
