Forms 10g rel 1( 9.0.4 ) vs SUN JVM 1.5

Hello:
From SUN site you can read :
"Changes in 1.5.0_06
The full internal version number for this update release is 1.5.0_06-b05 (where "b" means "build"). The external version number is 5.0u6.
Security Enhancements
Prior to this update, an applet or application could specify the version of the JRE on which it would run. This has changed. All applets are executed with the latest JRE version. Unsigned Java Web Start applications that specify a version other than the latest trigger a warning, requiring explicit user permission before the application will run. Signed Java Web start applications are not affected. "
Assuming that our customer will use SUN JVM , NOT Oracle JInitiator.
We have seen that if in a client machine it is installed SUN JVM 1.4.2_10 ( certified ) AND SUN JVM 1.5 or newer.
there is NO WAY to force Forms 9.0.4 applications to run with SUN JVM 1.4.2_10.
In spite of doing the following settings at formsweb.cfg
# Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin
jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2_10
when you run forms 9.0.4 applications from a browser in that machine, SUN JVM 1.5 is mandatory used by the browser.
It seems that IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to tell 9.0.4 to use SUN JVM 1.4.2_10 because SUN prevents it according to the above documentation .
Q1) I thank your comments on this
Then, when you look for certification info:
a) you can get this info for Forms 10g R2
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gR2/clientsod_forms10gR2.html
b) you can get this info for Forms 10g R1
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10g/clientsod_forms10g.ht
ml
Q2) What are ORACLE plans about certification of SUN JVM 1.5 AND Forms 10g Rel 1 ( 9.0.4 ) ?
Thanks in advance,
Fernando Rey

Hi Guys,
I am currently testing our portal with a number of JRE version or Jinitiator and the SUN JRE.
I found some very useful information about changing the registry of the local PC to re-enable specific versioning, see info, below.
I have tested this and it does work, but you need to be careful with Sun JRE versions to ensure that you are on 1.5.0.7 or higher.
Another useful link is this discussion over on the sun forums.
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=730855
Good Luck
Scott
We have found a conflict with the Sun JRE 1.4.2.6 and version Sun JRE 1.5.0.6
To get around this conflict a registry key has to be added onto the users PC and the user needs to remove 1.5.0.6 and install 1.5.0.7 or higher. To make matters worse the auto-update feature in version 1.4, if left enabled, will update the user to 1.5.0.6 even thought the latest release from the sun web site is 1.5.0.8 !
Therefore can you add this registry key onto the automated install of the Sun 1.4.2.6 setup as per the instructions below.
Troubleshooting Conflicting JPI Versions on the Desktop:
Per oracle note 368775.1, JRE 1.5 will not allow static versions. In other words version 1.5
may override your required version of 1.4.2. They call it a security feature, but it can reek
havoc with oracle forms. This section addresses a possible workaround.
If your users either need to run JPI 1.5 for any reason, here is the workaround to force
BANNER to use ONLY version 1.4.2.
If you launch forms and in the java console it shows version 1.5.X, perform the following
steps.
1. Make a backup of the windows registry
2. Edit the registry
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\
4. Create a new directory by highlighting the key above and pressing <RIGHT
CLICK>/<NEW KEY>
5. Rename the key to [Java Deployment]
6. Highlight the new key created in step 5 and press <RIGHT CLICK>/<NEW KEY>
7. Rename this new value to [Policy]
8. Highlight the new key created in step 7 and press <RIGHT CLICK>/<NEW DWORD>
9. Rename this DWORD to “EnableSecureStaticVersioning”
Re-launch forms and verify via the java console that the desktop is returning 1.4.2.

  • Forms 10g rel.2: new behaviour when accessing the db and not logged on

If I start a form and I'm not connected, then I have a problem with one of my standard-logon-routines.
This behaviour is new in 10g rel.2 I think.
If I start a function on the db and the form is not connected I get a FRM-92101 - There was a failure in the forms server during startup...
This is a migrated form, which runs in 6i, 9i, 10g rel.1, but not in rel. 2.
    Who nows a workaround ?

  • Forms 10g keyboard help

I'm using Forms 10g rel 2 (10.1.2.0.2). I have several Key-Fx triggers defined in my form. They are defined at the form level, block level & item level. All of them have the display in keyboard help property = yes & a description of what the key does in the keyboard help text property. However when I run the form & do a show keys only the Key-Fx trigger at the form level shows up in the help even if the focus is in the block or item where the others Key-Fx triggers are located. The triggers work but they just don't display in the help. Anyone know what the problem is or is this a bug?

I discovered that the help text is limited to 29 characters. If you enter 30 characters it will still display the key but with no keyboard text. If you enter more than 30 characters then the key will not be displayed in help at all.

  • Forms 10g LOV

In Forms 10g rel 2 you can set the app.ui.lovButtons=true in the registry.dat file and this enables a little button that indicates the item has an LOV when the cursor enters the item. I've noticed that this doesn't happen when the form is in enter query mode does anyone know if this is a bug or it just doesn't work in enter query mode?

    Hi Pradeep,
Forms cannot be deployed in 10gR3. you need to have 10gR2.

  • Installing Forms&Report  Services with Oracle Application Server 10g Rel 3

Can I Install Forms & Report Services with Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 some how?
I am thinking of installing Forms & Reports Services in separate home with Oracle Application Server 10g Rel 3.
Does any body has any different idea so that they both can run more smoothly together.
    Thanks

They WILL NOT RUN TOGETHER. We have discussed this many times before. They must be in separate homes.

  • IAS 10g rel 2 BI and Forms services

I have the IAS 10g rel 2 infrastructure on a RH v3 server and, as we need Discoverer, plan on installing BI on the same server. We also need Forms and Reports services as well.
As I don't see Forms services in BI (although the documentation says it is) the following questions arise:
    - If I install BI without Reports services, is it possible to install Forms and Reports services from the stand-a-lone version into the BI $OH? Or, would it require another separate $OH for the Forms and Reports services?
    - If I install BI with Reports services, is it possible to install just the Forms services into the BI $OH? Or, again, is a separate $OH required for just the Forms services?
    Your responses are much appreciated!!

There are three installation types that are pertinent to this question:
From Oracle Application Server 10g CDs, you can install BI and Forms Services and configure Discoverer, Reports, Forms (and even Portal). This has dependency on Infrastructure.
From Forms and Reports Services CDs, you can install Forms and Reports (in a seperate Oracle Home, never into BI and Forms install O_H). This has no dependency on Infrastructure.
From BI Cds, you can install Discoverer and Reports with no Infra dependency. It has to be in its own Oracle Home only.
So if your need is to run Discoverer, Reports, Forms in one Oracle Home but have no infrastructure dependency, it is not possible.

  • Forms 10g App. is slow: What is the official procedure to follow?

Hello Forms gurus. This question has been bugging me for some time. Here is the scenario.
We have a Telco application developed using Forms 10g.
A user complains that his form is slow.
We have access to the live DB (assume it is a 10g DB).
However, we cannot run the form in the live DB. We have no access to it. We only have access to the live DB.
What is the "procedure" to follow in a situation like this???
Is there an Oracle Recommended procedure to follow?
You inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the database is the cause of your performance problems? Can you identify slow queries? The first thing you should investigate is *where* your problem relies. Ask your DBAs if they can tell you the bad performing queries or help you analyze if there are any. If the database behaves well then most certainly it isn't the culprit of your performance problem. Of course there are some other no-gos which might affect application performance (like slow-by-slow processing, or serializing, or what ever else). So you need to identify where the time is spent first.
So, according to the them, if a form is "slow", 99.99% it is caused by a slow query.  So, they expect us developers to know tuning stuff.
Erm...and who else should know it? Developers design the application, developers know how it should work, and therefore are the ones who should know how to tune it. And I'm not talking about looking into why the Hard disk responds slow kind of stuff but simple identifying sub-optimal code, or SQL tuning by looking at the execution plans, interpreting them and solving them by...oh, I don't know, rewriting the query, minimizing recursive SQL, and what ever else. DBAs on the other hand know next to nothing about your application. How should they know if a query plan is bad or not (except the query responds slow)? How should they know how to rewrite your query properly if they don't know what it's supposed to do? Don't write a query whatever way you like and expect them to understand it and tune it which might even imply changes on your underlying data model.
    There are 2 scenarios:
(1.) We got e-mail from user saying form is slow. But he is not using the form now.
-- Is there a way to find out slow queries that happened say few days ago? Are they stored somewhere?
(2.) User is currently logged on to the system and using the form.
-- Can you find out an slow query happening right now??
1.) This would be AWR. As they have the final saying about the database then ask them to provide you a AWR report of a Time period where you had performance problems. If you don't have AWR then it'll be somehow difficult to analyze performance problems of the past. But on the other hand I wouldn't worry too much if you can constantly reproduce your problems as this would take us straight foreward to:
2.) That would be SQL Trace. Simply trace the session experiencing performance problems, and run tkprof on the tracefile. If you don't know how to do that and don't know how to interpret a query plan then you might ask your DBAs if they can assist you. If they insist that you must know that on your own maybe ask them to teach you. It is one thing to ask someone to do your job, but an entirely other thing to ask someone for help to do your job better and share some knowledge.
In the end it'll be easier to work *with* your DBAs to identify and solve performance problems and not working *against* them. You have knowledge about your application, about what data is stored where and why but might lack some basic knowledge about SQL Tuning. Your DBA on the other hand has no knowledge about your application but might have a better understanding of basic SQL tuning. IMHO the both of you would make a good couple to solve SQL performance problems as your knowledge combined should make it easy to resolve your problem.
    cheers

  • Suggested migration path for 10G rel 1 (90400) installation to 10.1.2.0.2?

We are a heavy forms/reports shop. We have just gotten done installing 10G Rel 1 (9.0.4.0.0), and now that the latest version of the App Server has been released, I'm wondering what the suggested Migration Path should be? And whether there are any "must have" features that will make an appreciable difference in forms/reports. Or, should we just install the latest patchset for our 904 installation and be done with it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Phil McDermott

Hmm... well, I'm going to be testing the forms/reports features of 10.1.2.0.2 just as soon as I get time, but what I'm hoping for most is that forms will work with SSO through the webcache. There is a bug in 9.0.4 that I'm aware of where SSO fails while working through the webcache. Oracle said they were working on the issue...
...anyone here know if Oracle fixed that bug? It may be a while before I'll have the time to play with 10.1.2.0.2.

  • Migration from Forms 9i to forms 10g (10.1.2)

I am planning for migration activites from Forms 9i and Reports 9i to Oracle 10g Forms and Reports ( Rel 2 i.e. 10.1.2).
What are new or removed from 10g forms and repots which was there in Forms 9i ?
Is there any difference between these two versions ? If No then why there are two diff versions in 10g Forms itself (9.0.4 and 10.1.2)
Which version of JInitiator I have to use for forms 10g ?

The versioning scheme is confusing I agree. 9.0.4 and 10.1.2 are the real versions. 10g versions are marketing driven versions.
10.1.2 is a major revision which means that you have to recompile your forms (if made in earlier versions of Forms) to make them run. 10.1.2 is built on a new version of the required support files (PLSQL for example).
You can use any supported version of Jinitiator that you like.

  • Calling Java Script to open a Map (Like Google Map) from Oracle Forms 10g

    Hello,
We are on Oracle EBS rel 12, Forms 10g. We have a requirement of calling a Custom Map application (Like Google Maps) from Oracle Forms 10g.
When the user enters the address like town, city, country etc and clicks on a button there should be a call to this Google Map like application which will pass the co-ordinates (Latittude, Longitude) to the map and shows the place on it. If the user selects a different location on this maps and closes the window the parameters co-ordinates (Latittude, Longitude) should be back in the calling form and this new location should replace the original location.
I appreciate if I can get some help for the above requirements.
    Thank you.
    GM

Thank you for your reply. I was reading on the metalink that we could use the to call the java script from oracle Forms 10g (Doc ID 265863.1)
    Example:
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT ('javascript:void(window.open("http://www.oracle.com","","location=no,toolbar=no,menubar=no,status=no,"));self.close()','_blank');
I tried it but it did not open the any window as it claims. Am I missing anything? Is there any IE related setting which I need to modify for the above to work?

  • Key Mapping in Forms 10g

    Dear All,
I have migrated forms 3.0 in unix to forms 10g in windows 2003 server.
In my older version, '+' key is mapped to do COMMIT. I want to map the same key in forms 10g. i tried the same in my frmweb.res. Pls find the mapping done by me below.
    *107 : 0 : "Add" : 36 : "Commit"*
    This works fine.
The Issue is ... My cursor is in a text item .... I entered some data and press " + " key to save. The data is saved but at the same time the data in the text item is erased and + is getting replaced in the text item. I dont want my data to be erased and replaced with "+" symbol.
How to map the "+" just for COMMIT and should not replace the data in the text item ?
Can anyone help me to solve this issue...
    Thanks in Advance
    Sharf

Unfortunately, sometimes the role of the developer is to educate the user/management what can/can't and should/shouldn't be done. If I were in your postition, I would make every effort to educate the user/management this this is a REALLY bad idea and encourage them to use the standard key mapping or use a modifed key mapping that uses just the F-Keys.
The problem you have to overcome is that you have to not only tell Forms to do something different when the '+' key is pressed, but you have to have a listener in your application that is listening for the '+' key and supress the '+' character. To my knowledge, this cannot be done with native Forms built-ins. You would have to write your own Java solution (JavaBean or Pluggable Java Component [PJC]) to suppress the '+'. I have found that if you can provide the user/management with a cost estimate associated with the effort needed to code a particular feature. Once they realize the level effort and more importantly the cost associated with coding a particular feature, they typically will change their mind and see reason.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it will help anyway. :(

  • Oracle reports 6i to Oracle forms 10g migration

    Hi,
I have .rdf files which were created on Oracle Reports 6i. I would like to migrate the .rdf files into Oracle Reports module which is present as a part of Oracle Forms 10g to generate PDF output.
Please let me know the detailed steps to be followed as I am a total newbie. Also I need to generate these reports on demand from a java 5 application (JSF 2.0).
Currently for ORacle reports 6i, I have the following code in my java application
    rwrun60.exe g:\tomcat33\webapps\reports\web-inf\src\null userid=***/*** destype=FILE desformat="pdf" paramform=NO printjob=NO batch=YES desname=temp.pdf
    1. What would be the equivalent for reports in ORacle Forms 10g ? I know there is an Oracle Apps server where ther report services reside. How to I invoke my report from my java application (residing on a weblogic server 10.3.6)?
    2. What ould I do with the 6i .rdf files to upgrade them to 10g ?

I am trying to call an Oracle report i.e .rdf (which is located on the Oracle  App Server) from my java EE 5 (JSF) application. The Oracle  App server is Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2. I assume Oracle report generation capability is available in this release.  I need to invoke the report from my Java JSF application on demand (whenever the user clicks a button on the web browser page, the report should appear on the browser as PDF) . My java application resides on Linux weblogic server.
Please let me know how it can be done ? I see rwclient.sh and another method to directly invoke using a URL. How do I do it on java, would a request.redirect() to the URL work ?
Also for hiding the params in the URL. keys need to be configured on the Oracle server right ?
Also if we use rwclient.sh or the URL based invocation, would there be any issue in concurrency when multiple users request the same report at the same time ?

  • Oracle Forms 10G(tabbed canvasses not working the same as in Forms 6i)

    Hi everyone,
I have a form which gets called from another form through a list of value. The called form(second form) has a group of tabbed canvases which get displayed depending on the parameters passed from the first form.
The Form is working prefectly fine in Forms 6i but when I converted the same form in to forms 10G it does not seem to work the same way. The tabbed canvasses are not getting displayed. I am manually having to press the execute query to get data displayed in the tabbed canvasses. I checked the parameters that are being passed and they are the same as that in Forms 6i.
Please let me know where my 10G Form is going wrong. Appreciate your help, please send me an email on [email protected]
