Installing Forms&Report Services with Oracle Application Server 10g Rel 3
Can I Install Forms & Report Services with Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 some how?
I am thinking of installing Forms & Reports Services in separate home with Oracle Application Server 10g Rel 3.
Does any body has any different idea so that they both can run more smoothly together.
Thanks
Raj
www.oraclebrains.comThey WILL NOT RUN TOGETHER. We have discussed this many times before. They must be in separate homes.

Forms 4.5 with Oracle 10g
Hi,
I have an application in - Front end tools : Oracle Forms/Reports 4.5. RPT, SQL, and PROC(all are in CUI-character user interface)
Database : Oracle 7.3.4.
I have a plan for migrating database to 10g keeping front-end as it is.
Is there any compatibility issue with forms 4.5(CUI) with oracle 10g.

Regards
JIJUCharacter interface?? you mean Forms 3 not 4.5??
It will not work, you cannot directly migrate Oracle 7.3.4 to 10g, you need to migrate it first to 8.1.6 and than to 10g.
Even if you succeed in your database migration your front end version will not work.

Unable to connect Forms and Report with Oracle 9i database
Dear All
Please help
I have received the following message when i connect Developer 10G Report builder with oracle 9i database.
scott/tiger@z
REP-0501:Unable to connect to the specified database ORA-12154:TNS could not resolve service name.
I have written the following text in tnsnames.ora file.
# TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: E:\ora_10g\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
z =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = zkhan-dfml)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = dba)
One more thing that i need to mention,I have also installed Oracle Report 6i and its connecting well.I have installed Oracle database in my own computer.

Thanks for the reply,Now my tnsnames.ora file is look like this.
z =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = zkhan-dfml)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = dba)
but still facing the same error ,one more thing that i need to mention, I have 3 Oracle home.details are:
for Oracle database 9i
for report builder 6i
for Developer 10G
Kindly advise.Yes, you definately needed to mention that. That suggests you also have 3 $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directories, each with its own tnsnames.ora file. So you need to make sure you are hitting the correct one. I'd pick one to be the controlling one and set the TNS_ADMIN enviornment variable to point to it. -
Oracle forms 10g 32bit with Oracle 10g database on windows itanium for x64
Hi.....
Currently we are planning to have this configuration
1. Oracle10g RAC on HP rx6600 with windows itanium for x64 architecture
2. Oracle Application Server (32-bit) on windows 2003 (forms & reports services)
3. Application migrated from 6i to 10g
I have to things to ask about?
1.Will it be ok to connect from an application compiled with _(32-bit)_ 10g forms to a x64_ platform without problems ?
2. Can we connect forms and reports of developer 6i +(32-bit)+ to 10g RAC on x64_ platform if the character set is not UTF8 ?1.Will it be ok to connect from an application compiled with (32-bit) 10g forms to a x64 platform without problems ?I did this also. A 32bit Oracle Form(10gR2) on Linux and a 64 bit (10gR2) database. And this works without a problem. Since you didn't mentioned your versions I would suggest you look for your combination if it is certified combination.
2. Can we connect forms and reports of developer 6i (32-bit) to 10g RAC on x64 platform if the character set is not UTF8 ?I don't know if the combination is certified. But regarding your character set, you have a character set setting (NLS_LANG, DEVELOPER_LANG, etc.. ) for your developer 6i, your database has it's own character set. Depending on those setting a conversion of the character set will take place between your developer 6i and the database, when you get and put data to the database. But like I said I don't know if developer 6i and 10g is still a supported combination. -

only return 2 row but should return 3I just noticed that I forgot to use an empty stoplist, so I have added that to the revised example below. Otherwise, it uses a default stoplist that would not index common single-letter words like A and I.
1. Whtat is Just search on single character 'L'? It give me error.
Since it uses the NEAR operator, searching for just one letter causes incomplete syntax, asking it to search for L near a missing second value. So, I have added additional code to allow for just one letter.
2. How do I do auto refresh on this index on datastore?
If I add "sync (on commit)" it does not refresh the previously set token.
Sync(on commit) does synchronize so that the data is immediately searchable. You have to either optimize or rebuild or drop and recreate the index to condense the rows in the domain index table.
3.lastly explanation of
<seq>NEAR((' || letters_func (:search_string) || '),1,TRUE)</seq>
<seq>NEAR((' || letters_func (:search_string) || '),100,TRUE)</seq>
<seq>NEAR((' || letters_func (:search_string) || '),100,FALSE)</seq>
why 100 true and 100 false
100 is just a default value that I used for the second parameter of near, indicating how close the letters need to be to each other. True and False are values for the third parameter of near, indicating whether or not the letters must be in the same order or not. So, it returns the results in the order of first those that are very close to one another and in the same order, then those that may be further away but in the same order, then those that may be further away and in any order.

Can forms 11g work with oracle 9i database?
Hi all,
Can anyone say if we can install forms 11g over WLS, using oracle 11g database for repository only, and activate/connect our forms to oracle 9i database?
is this how it's done?
our production database is 9.2.0.4 on sun solaris.
Please advise,
thanks,
AmitIt will work. Its just a Net 80 connection from WLS to the Oracle 9 database.

Can we run oracle Forms 5 Application with 10G in Client/Server?
Hi All,
Can we run oracle Forms 5 Application with 10G in Client/Server
Mode?
Regards
GauravIn theory you can run it 2 tier - which means that you have the client (the machine the user is sitting at) being the same machine in which the forms application server is running. So yes. But specifically, we don't support a client server runtime anymore. 6i was the last version.
With 10g you will be running through a browser.

Migration from Character Mode Forms 4 - 6
I'm currently using Pre-Developer 2000, Some Oracle Forms 4 through 6. All in character mode for RF (radio frequency) devices in a warehouse. I'm concerned about migration. I've read that the new forms, post 6i releases will not support character mode. What would be the best migration strategy to move forward? The devices only work for character mode, NO GUI.
Thanks for you assistance,
ChaseYou are correct in that Oracle 9i Forms is a GUI Web only release.
Forms 6i still supports chrarcter mode runtime and will be supported and patched through 2006 with extended support through 2008.
This gives you 7 years to figure out an upgrade stategy, hopefully that gives you enough time.
Thanks,
