Forms 6i against 11g database server - certification plan ? [ANSWERED]

Oracle folks, any plan to certify Forms 6i with a patchset against the upcoming version of the database server ? (before 6i ext. support ends end of Jan. 08)
We ported our Forms 6i apps to 10gR2 already but we want to support the 6i version of the c/s application against 11g database server.
thanx

;) this is what I meant. BTW, this is not just a user forum but it is also monitored by Oracle employees, Forms product managers, etc. So, it is one of the "official" resources if we need an answer from Oracle Corp. This apply to any OTN forum. If you look at Metalink, folks are posting there and on OTN hoping to hear official answers. This is not an issue that you can create an SR. This particular matter was discussed on ODTUG and with OPN, and it was OPN related Oracle Employee's suggestion to post it on OTN forms forum. Thanx anyway.

  • OEM Java Console in 11g database server

    Will Oracle support / include the EM Java Console with the client software of 11g db server ?
    I really like the EM Java Console for monitoring couple of databases instead of installing the entire grid control and the browser based OEM (scroll pages and pages in some cases).
    Thank you.

    From past discussions, the OEM console will go away unless Oracle has changed their views on the java console. It remained in the 10g version for backwards compatibility reasons and because some components weren't in GC yet.

    You didn't mention the Forms version, but likely you are experiencing a known issue. Details are discussed in MyOracleSupport Note 1099035.1 A patch is available and outlined in the note.

  • Need help with Forms 6 on 11g

    Hello all,
    I wonder if anyone has come across this issue. I'll try to explain this as best as I can. We just migrated/upgraded our database from a SUSe9 (32 bit) Oracle 9.2.0.7 configuration to a Redhat 5.3 64 bit. We were running Oracle Forms 6 on certain desktops which connected fine against our version 9 databse. I am now experiencing the following error message after I enter my user ID, password and Database: ORA-02248: Invalid option for ALTER SESSION. Now, I may be facing the issue of an outdated forms application trying to interface with 11g. I heard this version 6 did work on Oracle 10g, but some folks may be having issues on 11g, like myself. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    As Jan Carlin noted, it is not a certified combination (using 6i against 11g) and I hope you understand what the consequences are if you are using a non-certified combination in a production environment.
    But, if you really really want to use 6i(with ps 18) against the 11g database server, the answer is YES it is working with the following workaround. I believe I am the first one found and reported the issue on OTN when I was testing our 6i and 10gR2 forms application against the 11g database server. The issue is also applicable to 10gR2 forms against 11g database as well as 6i forms.
    Here is the workaround:
    ==============================================================
    Oracle 11g database has a new parameter
    SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON (case sensitive password enabled for logon) - default is
    TRUE. Forms built-in "OPEN_FORM (...SESSION)" uses password in capital letters by
    default. There are two workarounds that solves this problem with Forms agains 11g
    database server. Either use the Oracle sqlplus command (login as system): alter user <your OraUser>
    identified by YOUR_PASSWORD (use your own Oracle user name and password - be careful to use capital
    letters for the password) or set the SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON database parameter to
    FALSE (do not forget to change the parameter for the spfile as for the current session). This
    parameter can be changed by using the Oracle Enterprise Manager GUI (refer to your Oracle
    database server documentation for details).
    Hope this proves useful.

  • Performance Tuning For 11g Database

    I've heard some Oracle DBA's suggest / recommend that specific parameters be tuned in the O.S. for using Linux as a dedicated Oracle 11g database server. I'm guess those parameters vary greatly based on utilization, hardware, and various other factors. I just wanted to ask if there are some soft or safe performance adjustments I can make which regardless of other various factors that are unknown would most likely benefit and or improve database performance?
    Here is what I know:
    - OS = RHEL 6.2 or OEL 6.2 64-bit
    - RAM = 4 GB
    - x2 Quad Core Xeon CPU's
    Thanks for shedding any light on this for me...

    ALWAYS read and follow the instructions provided by Oracle in the installation guide. It discusses the very issue you mention.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321.pdf
    There is even a section for 'Configuring Kernel Parameters for Linux'
    After you read the installation guide and evaluate your own installation environment if you have any specific questions then post them. And if you intend to 'guess those parameters vary greatly based on utilization, hardware, and various other factors' then it should be obvious that you need to provide information on 'utilization, hardware, and various other factors' or we won't be able to help you with your specific use case.

  • Forms 10g Builder with 11g Database Release 1 - Connectivity Problems

    Hello All,
    I am trying to connect 11g Database (Version 11.1.0.7.0 mounted on Linux) from my Oracle Forms 10g Builder 10.1.2.0.2 in my client PC Windodws XP. But its just hanging and doesnt connects at all.
    Strange is that from the same Oracle home i am able to connect to same 11g user through the reports builder 10g and
    , sqlplusw and sqlplus from 10g home.
    But i am not able to connect to 11g R1 database from my Forms Builder alone. Why is this? Can the PROs get me out of this problem please.
    Thanks in advance.

    First, using 10.1.2.0 against 11.x is not recommended. You should at least be using 10.1.2.3 if you plan to work with 11.x. Further, there is a known issue which causes connection, compilation, and some sql execution to run significantly slowly. This issue has been corrected with a patch and new switch. If you have an active Support contact, I would recommend creating a Service Request in order to get the latest information.

    As a general rule, most sql will perform as fast (or faster) on 11gR2 than 10gR2 - there will always be exceptions that's depends upon each one's application So best choice is to perform a test to ur whole project application. • Forms 6i is not connecting with Oracle 11g database?

    Forms 6i is not connecting with Oracle 11g database?
    How to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
    Once you installed the Forms and Reports, you need to configure the paramters like tnsnames.ora in you path.
    There will be one folder in the Installation path of Forms and Reports search for tnsnames.ora file..and you need to Updated the file as per the which ORACLE Server you are connecting and then try.. it..
    Default path for forms will be "ORACLE_HOME/net80/admin".. search for tnsnames.ora and modify it..

  • Oracle 11G database and Application Server installed on same server

    What are the pros and cons installing Oracle 11G database and Oracle Application Server (Forms and Reports) on the same server?
    Thank you in advance, Sonya

    Some may want their data in a separate network zone for security reasons.
    It also depends if it is the same people that do maintenance on db and appserver.
    It is lower cost with one server, and only 1 Os to set up.

  • Forms 4.5 against 10g database?

    Can anyone tell me the latest version of the Oracle database that Forms 4.5 will work against? From what I've read v8.1.6 is the latest version that Forms is certified to work against - correct? But is there any reason why it shouldn't work against 10g?

    Hi, I have tried this way back when, and it works fine against 10g. Couple of things to remember: under the forms 4.5 it installs an earlier version of Oracle Net, therefore the tnsnames.ora file under the formshome/network/admin is not compatible with 9i and higher. Create a directory like /var/opt/oracle (or on windows something similar) then set your TNS_ADMIN variable to point to that directory. Then, binary ftp the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora from your 10g database server home/network/admin to /var/opt/oracle directory. Then you should be able to connect to the 10g db server from your forms. There were some known issues with forms 4.5 and even 6i against the very first version of 9i (database was not releasing locks issued by forms), but those problems were fixed with 10g release 1, so you should be ok. But remember, because this is not a certified combination (by Oracle), if you have any major problem with your form/db combo, you will be on your own. Make sure your forms are using the latest patchset for 4.5 version. BTW, only certified version of forms against 10g is Forms 6i with patchset 17 or higher (18).

    hi
    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: Oracle_Home is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    Oracle_Home with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
    and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
    C:\webutile is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
    cd C:\webutile
    copy jacob.jar Oracle_Home\forms\java\.
    copy jacob.dll Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\.
    The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
    Open a DOS command prompt.
    Add Oracle_Home\jdk\bin to the PATH:
    set PATH=Oracle_Home\jdk\bin;%PATH%
    Sign the files, and check the output for success:
    Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\sign_webutil Oracle_Home\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
    Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\sign_webutil Oracle_Home\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
    you may skip this step. Otherwise,
    Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
    connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
    for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
    Open Oracle_Home\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
    out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
    errors.
    Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
    CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
    GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
    CONNECT webutil/webutil@rcci
    @Oracle_Home\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
    -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
    Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
    grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\default.env, and append Oracle_Home\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
    to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\formsweb.cfg insde [default] add :
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar
    archive=frmall.jar
    also add :
    [webutil]
    WebUtilLogging=off
    WebUtilLoggingDetail=normal
    WebUtilErrorMode=Alert
    WebUtilDispatchMonitorInterval=5
    WebUtilTrustInternal=true
    WebUtilMaxTransferSize=16384
    baseHTMLjinitiator=webutiljini.htm
    baseHTMLjpi=webutiljpi.htm
    baseHTML=webutilbase.htm
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar
    WebUtilArchive=frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar,f90all.jar
    archive=frmwebutil.jar,f90all.jar
    lookAndFeel=oracle
    7) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\webutil.cfg and add :
    transfer.database.enabled=TRUE
    transfer.appsrv.enabled=TRUE
    8) Start the OC4J instance
    9) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
    Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
    It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in Note 303682.1
    If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
    full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    10) Create a new FMB.
    Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
    There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
    Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
    Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
    NULL;
    to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
    Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
    show_webutil_information (TRUE);
    in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
    Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    11) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
    the "Application Server URL" is empty.
    Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
    http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    12) Run your form.
