Forms 6i and 10R2 database

Hi gurus,
i have an application with lot of forms and reports in 6i version. I need now to upgrade my database in 10GR2 (10.2.0.4).
Then, can i continue to use my old 6i forms and reports application without problem. Even it is not supported (by oracle), can i still work with forms and reports 6i and 10GR2 database ?
Thx by advance.

Forms 6i runs well against Oracle 10gR2 as long as you use a single byte codepage, eg iso8859p15.
As soon as you like to use Unicode, I would highly recommend to upgrade to Webforms 10g.
We have recently upgraded our whole application to Unicode Webforms, as we now have customers around the world (even in China or Turkey). All customers are using "the same code base" and their native language. Users can even switch languages back and forth on the run. Works like a charm.
I am so glad, we finally did this migration step, as more and more services and programs are used within a webbrowser anyway.
How many forms modules are you talking about?

  • Slow Problems with Oracle Forms 10g and Oracle Database 11g

Hi, I wonder if there is a compatibility problem between Version 10.1.2.0.2 32 Oracle Forms and Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production. This is because my application runs correctly on a version of Oracle Database 10g, and when we migrated the database to an Oracle Database 11g, slowness problems came out.
    Thanks.

We have the same issue happening with our custom forms and with some of the standard forms in EBSO. So far we have found that the form invoking a view causes ridiculous slowness in opening the form (40 mins). Using a table access has shortened the open time significantly. At this time Oracle DBAs at OOD have no clear idea why it is happening.
we are on 11.1 database with 11.5 EBSO

I have an oracle database 7 (not personal) and I want to know if forms I will work fine with it.
If somebody have any information about it please let me know

    Hay
its FAHAD AZIZ KHAN from PAKISTAN-KARACHI
i have implemented it several times on my clients
    who loves Windows98.
You have nothing to do so just install the databse
firstly and then Dev6i on the same DB home.
if u install Dev6i in seperate home u have to start
dtabase first before connect from the FORMS.
Some its also required to make a
    connect Srting(through Net Easy Config).
All the work is so easy.
I have several times utilize it on NT based systems.

  • Forms 6i and Oracle database 10g compatibility

    Hi all,
We have application on Forms 6i (client/server) using ORACLE database 8i, looking for an upgrade of database to 10g version. Based on earlier threads on this topic Forms 6i is certified with patchset 17, i couldn't find this patchset on metalink.
Can someone confirm when to expect patch 17, as i see the ECS will end by 01/Jan/2005.
    Thanks,

  • NLS_LANG value that suits Forms 10G and Database 11G wanted !

I can't believe how bad is to install Oracle Database and Oracle Forms on the same Windows Vista machine!
I had a problem in Oracle Forms 10g that prevents many items in the Form Builder menu from appearing in English Language and also prevents anything in the web-based forms runtime from appearing in English. I searched the forum for a solution and found that I have to set a NLS_LANG value in the environment variables equal to the following: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1256.
I did this and my Forms builder looked great. Everything in english with no problems. But now what ?! The Oracle Database itself refused to connect from all clients! It refused to connect from Forms Builder, SQL Deeveloper, and even from SQL PLUS! The error given is: ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
It seems that what I exactly need is a NLS_LANG value that will satisfy both Oracle Forms 10G and Oracle Database 11G that both are installed on the same Vista machine. The question is: What could this NLS_LANG value be?!
    Thank you in advance

If you have connected to the database on which the form is based, prior to running the form from the Builder, the uname and password will automatically be passed in at startup and you will not be prompted.
If you would rather hard code a username and password, enter it in formsweb.cfg. For example:
    SYNTAX:
    userid=<USERNAME>/<PASSWORD>@<DB NAME>
    EXAMPLE:
    userid=scott/tiger@orcl
Remember that this change will only impact runtime and have no effect on the Builder.

  • Forms 6i X 10g Database (the solution is here)

    Hey all,
As i said in another thread, many people get problems when integrating Forms 6i and 10g Database. They usually say:
"I can't access 10g database from Forms 6i and from SQLPlus"
The solution is very simple, you have to just write a command line to alter the "character set". Let's keep this thread on the top to help everyone who is facing this problem.
The explanation is written in this thread:

  • How to compare a database field and form field and highlight differences

    Hi there,
I have been trying to find a coldfusion function that will help, I have tried comparing two strings but the results of -1 1 or 0 aren't very useful.
I need to compare a database field with a form field and highlight all the differences in the form field in red.
    Thanks
    Katie

This is a non-trivial process.  Rather than doing a compare, you really are wanting to do a diff.  CF doesn't do this out of the box, but you might want to have a sniff around on Google to see if anyone has implemented anything for CF.

  • Another schema and/or database for a form

    Hello.
What if i have a form and I want to change the schema and/or database name for the form? Is that possible? It want to make a form on data from a running production database. But testing is not very nice in a roduction database. So i want to build and test in my own schema and database. Then, when it all works, I want to change it to the running database.
Is that in any way possible with a form from Portal?

A form resides in an Application.
You can not change the Schema on which the application is based on.
What you will need to do is:
    App1 -- Based on Schema1 -- Your production Build
    App2 -- Based on Schema2 -- Your testing build
    Form1 -- Resides here (In App2)
You will have to copy "Form1" to App1. In that case it will be transfered in Schema1
    One more way will be:
    Export the application
    Delete the application
While Importing change the application Schema of the Application.
(Don't forget to take the backup of database before you do this as if anything goes wrong while
doing the above then you can always revert back)
    Thanx,

  • Install and config issues with Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer

For a while now I've been struggling with migrating a testing database to a newer version.
And right now I'm pretty much stuck at trying to configure Oracle Portal, Forms Reports and Discoverer
    What I've got:
    Windows server 2008 R2 64bit
    Oracle 11g database
    Java 6u27 64bit
JDK 1.6 64bit (using this after 1.7 ended up throwing out bugs while trying to start a weblogic server)
    JDK 1.7 64bit
Weblogic 10.3.5 (or so i think - I've installed from the wls1035_generic.jar from the oracle website)
PFRD 11.1.1.2 with 11.1.1.3 installed over it, installed without config
    and a hanging up configuration
Basically I've been trying to install PFRD (only forms, reports and enterprise manager from it actually) but it kept failing once it got to the configuration stage, so I installed without config, applied 11.1.1.3 and now trying to run the config manually with the good old \bin\config.bat
Result - the config froze for approx.18 hours then failed
There isn't much useful info I could deduct from the logs, mostly just says one or more configuration parts failed. At one place it mentions trying to set up a domain and starting up an adminserver for it - and apparently that's where it hangs up and finally times out and fails.
I'm a little clueless what to do about it as the logs don't say anything else of use I could understand. Any ideas there?

Trying the step by step, the only difference between that and what i do seems to be the file copying (which I can't do - there is no windows\extra\ directory anywhere, the files mentionned seem to already be on their places and either only there, or exactly the same) and clistering
So far the news ain't good - the config process hangs on creating domain ->Step Creating Domain started
It isn't frozen per se - the process doesn't use up any processor time, memory consumption within bounds, it reacts to button clicks and all..it just doesn't do anything concerning the said domain
the last thing the .out file shows:

  • Logical Database design and physical database implementation

    Hi
I am an ORACLE DBA basically and we started a proactive server dashboard portal ,which basically reports all aspects of our infrastructure (Dev,QA and Prod, performance, capacity, number of servers,No of CPU,decomissioned date,OS level,Database patch level) etc..
This has to be done entirely by our DBA team as this is not externally funded project. Now i was asked to do " Logical Database design and physical Database
    implementation"
Even though i know roughly what's that mean(like designing whole set of tables in star schema format) ,i have never done this before.
In my mind i have a rough set of tables that can be used but again i think there is lot of engineering involved in this area to make sure that we do it properly.
I am wondering you guys might be having some recommendations for me in the sense where to start?are there any documents online , are there any book on this topic? Are there any documents which explain this phenomena with examples ?
Also exactly what is the difference between logical database design vs physical database implementation
    Thanks and Regards

Logical database design is the process of taking a business or conceptual data model (often described in the form of an Entity-Relationship Diagram) and transforming that into a logical representation of that model using the specific semantics of the database management system. In the case of an RDBMS such as Oracle, this representation would be in the form of definitions of relational tables, primary, unique and foreign key constraints and the appropriate column data types supported by the RDBMS.
Physical database implementation is the process of taking the logical database design and translating that into the actual DDL statements supported by the target RDBMS that will create the database objects in a target RDBMS database. This will generally include specific physical implementation details such as the specification of tablespaces, use of specialised indexing (bitmap, clustered etc), partitioning, compression and anything else that relates to how data will actually be physically stored inside the database.
It sounds like you already have a physical implementation? If so, you can reverse engineer this implementation into a design tool such as SQL Developer Data Modeller. This will create a logical design by examining the contents of the Oracle data dictionary. Even if you don't have an existing database, Data Modeller is a good tool to use as a starting point for logical and even conceptual/business models.
If you want to read anything about logical design, "An Introduction to Database Systems" by Date is always a good starting point. "Database Systems - A Practical Approach to Design, Implementation and Management" by Connolly & Begg is also an excellent reference.
