Forms 6i and Forms 9i

I am current obtaining my OCP (Developer) in about 3 weeks. 1 test to go. I was wondering. the certification is based on the 6i release, now that forms 9i is out, should this be a concern to me, as in should I start to learn forms 9i, or stick with 6i for awhile. What are the companies forecasting their usage as? Is 6i going to be supported for awhile, or is my new certification just a stupid piece of paper?
Thanks

Oracle9i Forms is like Forms 6i, but with added features. Therefore, whatever you learn about Forms 6i pertains to Oracle9i Forms as well. Moreover, Forms 6i client/server and character mode will be supported until 2006 (or 2008 with extended support).
So it's not just a worthless piece of paper. :)

  • Please explain what are form groups and form routines

    Hello ABAP Experts,
Could you please explain what are form groups and form routines? I would certainly appreciate some examples.
    Thank you in advance, Aleksandra

    Hi,
I've found the Form Group in transaction J7LE. It is part of Industry Specific solution for hi tech companies, so I'm not sure if you'll be able to access it. In this tcode you define master data of your partner. The first step is to choose the Form Group - they simply group Form Routines. Depending on which one I choose, different entry fields get activated. However there are routines that will enable input to the same fields, so I suppose there must be some additional functionality behind it. Could you please specify what does it mean?
    >>Form ROUTINES, are subroutines for modularizing your code<<
I'm afraid I have no ABAP experience at all...
    Cheers, A.

  • Forms services and form builder

    Hi,
We are installing Oracle Forms 10g Application Server 10.1.2.0.2. What is difference between
Form Services and Form Builder. Which one developer should be used for migration,qa purpose?
    Thanks
    sandy

    Sandy,
Oracle Forms Services is a part of the Oracle Application Server and is used by the apps server to display a Form built with Oracle Forms. Forms run inside a Java container in a Web Browser (Internet Explorer, etc.).
Oracle Forms Builder is a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool used for creating user interface applications. Your developer will use the Forms Builder to create new or modify existing Forms applications.
I'm not sure what you mean by Migration and QA. Are you migrating from an older version of the Forms Builder? As to QA, who ever is performing the QA would need the Forms Builder only if they need to look at the PL/SQL code in a Form for standards compliance, proper logic, etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • Confused between form 9i and form 6i

When I try to download oracle form 9i from oracle web site, the list is only the oracle form 6i R2( latest version? i guest).
Is it form 9i and form 6i R2 is the same?

Forms9iAS will be released soon, according to the project manager Ronald Grand ([email protected]). See his message:
"Jan, Oracle9i Forms is still awaiting release. We have actully completed the development work on Forms but as you may know, this is delivered as part of the iAS/iDS suite and so we are awaiting final integration.
With respect to migration to the web. If let me know your specific questions and I will address them. The good thing about going to the the web is that so many customers have migrated it means that alot of the issues you may hit are already well known with readily available solutions.
If you have specific questions, it may even be worth posting on the OTN forum - that way you can get the real world experiences of developers. I always monitor this anyway so I can answer as well."

  • Do I need special version of forms 2000 and forms 6i for Xandros Linux?

    Hi,
Please tell me if someone knows that, do i need any special version of forms 2000 and forms 6i
for 'xandros Linux' or the same can be install which we usually use for windows xp or 2000.
    Regards and thanks in advance.

Have in mind that Xandros is not certified. However, the biggest problem if the distribution is a newer on is about OpenMotif libraries as Developer 6i installation requires version 2.1.30 to install successfully.
If it may be of any use, there's a guide on installing on [SLES 8|http://knol.google.com/k/cuauhtmoc-amox/install-oracle-developer-6i-on-suse/153594c4goidl/3].

  • Help!!!How to run Form Builder and Forms Runtime together?

    Dear Friends,
I am new to Oracle Developement and need your help.
Everytime I click the RUN icon to run a form from the Form Builder, the Forms Runtime starts, however, closes my Form Builder the same time. After I closed the Forms Runtime, the Form Builder shows up as before.
In another word, I cannot have both Forms Runtime and Forms Builder at the same time. How can I run the form without closing the Form Builder so that it's eaiser to modify the form and time saving?
    Thank you very much.

Thanks. But I cannot make by using alt+tab. I know it is strange.
I could do that before but I don't know what's wrong with it now because start of the Runtime automatically hide the Form Builder until I close the runtime. Does anyone have any idea or same experience of this? Any suggestion?

  • Installing WorkFlow with ARES, Form Manager and Forms

    Hi All,
I'm having issues when trying to install WorkFlow with ARES, Form Manager and Forms.
    I've followed these steps:
    1. Installed Forms v. 7.1
    2. Installed Form Manager v. 7.0.1
    3. Installed ARES v. 7.0 (using a trust directory with a keyfile, etc.)
    4. Installed Workflow v. 7.0.1 with Turnkey option checked.
    5. Ran configuration manager.
The progress gets to 12% then displays the error code "LCMerror101" with the message "Livecycle module pdfagent-client could not be copied to working directory".
I don't know what this error means, can someone help me?? I know the issue isn't related to disk space (20+ gigs free) and I'm using the administrator account to install. Any suggestions or tidbits of info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stone.

  • Differences between Forms 6i and Forms 9i

    Hi
Where can I get documentation to know the major differences between forms 6i and Forms 9i? I heard one major difference is that Forms 9i does not support client/server architecture. I need to confirm this.
    Thanks

Check out the various papers available on:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/content.html
Here you'll find the new features in 9i listed and also a document listing in some detail the things that have been obsoleted in the 9i release.

  • Recognizing Forms 6i and Forms 10g

    Hi,
I have a folder which has a mix of forms from 6i and some from 10g (which was migrated). But since all these are in the same folder, is there any way I can know before even opening the form whether its a 6i form or 10g. I dont want to open any 6i form in the 10g version cause some of them are not supposed to be migrated. Please let me know how to open my forms cause I dont know which form is which version.
    Thanks.

And don't ever open a form from the 6i folder with Forms 10g. Next thing you know, you will save the form from the Forms Builder, and that will render it impossible to open from 6i.
Since I still develop in 6i, I make all my changes there, and save the form. Then if I want to see it run in 10g, I have a Windows DOS .bat command file that copies the fmb to the Forms 10g folder, then calls the 10g compiler. I rarely even open the Forms 10g Builder.

  • Please help with Forms server and forms

Mine is home PC and the spec. of the system are as follows.
    database:Oracle 8i EE
    Forms :6i
    OS :Windows 2000
Yesterday I downloaded Oracle9iAS Server and followed the documentation in installing.
As per the documentation, I accepted default values in many cases and went thru with installation.
At the end of the installation, i got the following config(found at the bottom of the message).
Please give me steps in resolving the issues below.
    Also,
when I run the "Run form from web" from Programs....
what if the web listener port is taken. how do we figure out if one is already in use and if so what are other ports available to me.
and finally in the same app. is "Web Host" the name of my computer on which I installed the Oracle server?
    TIA

But I did a search for 6iServer.conf and did NOT locate any such file
    Please help
    TIA
    SHANKAR
    Shankar,
It would have helped if you had indicated what is the full version of 9iAS that you have installed. By default the portnumber that is used is 7778.
As per the entries, they should have already been made in the config files. But check that the 6iServer.Conf file and it should contain the entries that you are being told to update. If not, then add the entries in the 6iServer.conf file and that is all you need.

  • Oracle Form Builder and Form Runtime

I don't know where to get additional help. I have a project to
complete that I believe is relatively simple for a proficient
Oracle developer. It is a database for an education store. I
have the database set up, but I can't get the forms to work
properly and don't know how to complete some of it. I have to
create Oracle forms for the order process then enter some
orders. I have some masterless data blocks, and don't know how
to make a form that needs field from several related tables.
Also, I need buttons to clear form and one to accept the orders.
Then I need to make a screen where a search or query can be

  • Forms 6i and Forms 10g

Hi, I have hundreds of forms. Most of them are in 6i and few of them have been changed to 10g. Now when I look at a form from my windows explorer, is there any way to know which version this form is being used in. For eg. I have a test.fmb and I can see it in my C drive in windows explorer. But by looking at the fmb, I dont come to know if its in 6i version or already been converted to 10g. I need to know this so that by mistake I dont open a 6i version to 10g. Cause once I open it in 10g, I wont be able to open it back in 6i and it will be a problem in case I dont hv the old original saved.
    Pls advise?? Thanks.

    Hi ,
I don't think that you can do that in the way you want.....
However , you can use the forms compiler of 6i and try to compile each form.....
If a form has been compiled in 6i the it'll be compiled again... otherwise it won't..and by noticing the error log files created you can distinguish these files.... !!!!!

    Simon

  • Forms 6i and Forms 9i Running at the same time

I was wondering if it is possible to run the Forms 6i developer suite and the Forms 9i developers suite at the same time and database environment.

Oracle9iAS Release 2 = Oracle9i Forms and you can only run 9i Forms in this stack.
Oracle9iAS Release 1 - Oracle Forms6i and you can only run 6i Forms on this stack.
You should "mix and match" version of Forms. You should run the version of Forms on the same platform version.
Of course, you can upgrade your 6i Forms to 9i which means they will now only run on Oracle9iAS Release 2.
I know its a little bit confusing but we are slowly getting all our release numbers aligned to make it easier for you.
