Forms 6i Connect to 10g R2 DB

Hi,
We are planning to migrate only our 9i database to 10gR2 and 9iAS to 10gAS. One of our application is developed in Forms/ Reports 6i, deployed in 9i Application Server and others are in Java/J2ee/JSP and Portal. Now we are planning to integrate all the applications.
1. Do we face any problem if migrate only the database from 9i to 10g?
2. Do we face any problems while deploying forms 6i into 10gAS?
3. What are problem we may get when integrating the forms 6i application with Java applications?
Please help us.
Thanks & Regards
M Thiyagarajan

I can't respond to your 3rd question, however, in response to questions 1 & 2, you shouldn't have any problems running a Forms 6i App against the 10G database and Oracle App Server 10g - at least, we have not run into any issues running Forms 6i against these versions. There are actually several posts in the Forum regarding this so you may want to search the forums to see if anyone ran into any problems and what their solutions were.
Hope this helps.

  • Cannot connect Oracle Form to my Oracle 10g Database

    Hi Guru,
Could you guys help me out on below? I have been running Oracle 10g personal XE edition and Sql Developer on Windows XP. I am able to connect using TNS as connect type when I am connecting from my SQL Developer to my database.
Today, I installed Oracle Forms, Form builders. I choose connect and provide these info
    username: my username
    password: my password
    Database: XE
I received ORA- 12154 TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
    Anyone I doing something wrong?

    Hi,
What is your forms version (The location of tnsnames.ora is different for 11g).?
As Baig mentioned, you first need to create an alias in the tnsnames.ora file, like
    mydb =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = <your_host_name_where_db_is_installed>)(PORT = <port_default_is_1521>))
        (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = <SID_In_your_case_i_suppose_it_is_XE>))
)Then, from forms you connect like
    username: my username
    password: my password
Database: mydb <== This is the alias you've created in your tnsnames.ora as above

  • Form Builder connecting to Oracle database

I recently dowloaded the Personal Edition of the Oracle 10g database.
Having done that, I installed a copy of Oracle Forms 6i which I had.
When I used to connect to the database from the Forms Builder, I only entered username "scott" and password "tiger".
Now, it seems I also need to enter the database name to connect.
I tried "Oracle10g", which I think is the instance name, but I get an error about not being able to "resolve service name."
Can someone help me with this?
    Thank you.

Although not related to your problem, connecting Forms 6i to a 10g database isn't really a good idea. Although it is supported by Oracle, you are likely to have problems. Remember that Forms/Reports 6i is very old (and no longer supported) and was based on the Oracle 8.0.6 architecture. Additionally, be sure you are using Forms 6.0.8.22 (Patch 13) or newer if you plan to connect to 10.x.
That said, your problem is not related to the versions you are using. It is caused by the fact that the database is considered "remote" relative to Forms. This is true even though both products are likely installed on the same machine. By having them installed in different Oracle Homes (which you must), the database might as well be on another machine.
Short answer, you need to add the database information to the tnsnames.ora file found in the Forms Oracle Home. More specifically, it can be found in:
    %ORACLE_HOME%\NET80\ADMIN
The other alternative is to set TNS_ADMIN in the system environment (not the Windows Registry). This will point to the database's tnsnames.ora and will allow all installed products to access the same file.

  • How to use Forms 5 and DevSuite 10g in the same machine

    Hello everybody,
I have installed forms 5 and IDS 10g in one machine and both the versions of the forms were working simultaneously. Now I have un-installed both the versions of the forms and re-installed in the same machine. Installation was successful. but I am not able to connect to the database in forms 5. It shows TNS could not resolve service name. TNS is created in both the versions with same name as well as different name. The IDS is working fine. Please help.
    Thanks and regards
    Sukanta sarkar

    Sukanto,
What error are you getting? One potential problem you will have with more than one version of Oracle Dev Suite installed is keeping the TNSNAMES.ORA synchronized. I've found the easiest solution to this problem is to add the TNS_ADMIN registry key to each Oracle Home so I can share a single copy of the TNSNAMES.ORA file. You can add this entry by starting the Window Registry editor (regedt32.exe or regedit.exe) and navigate to the following registry hive:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE => SOFTWARE => ORACLE => HOME? (where ? represents the number of the Oracle Home, eg., 0-9).
In your example, Forms 5 should be in HOME0 and IDS 10g should be in HOME1. Open each home and add a new "String Value" and name it: TNS_ADMIN. After you have added the new String Value entry, edit the String Value and enter the path to the copy of your TNSNAMES.ORA that is working. Then do the same thing with HOME1 and exit the Registry. You should be able to connect to your database with Forms 5 and IDS 10g. Normally, changes to the registry do not require you to reboot your computer, but I have seen where this is necessary - though not very often.
Note: Always ensure you have a BACKUP of the Windows Registry before you make any changes. If you uncomfortable modifying the Windows Regisitry, then I don't recommend you make this change.
    Hope this helps.

please excuse, but I have no answer.
My only hint to you is, copy the question to one of the rdbms-, or odbc-forums of the otn. Here is the forms-forum, where the guys normally didn't need an odbc connection to different databases.
    try it

  • Error to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0

    hello,
I try to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0.
I created an ODBC connection to function in the administration tools of data sources but I can not connect once in designer.
I tried using the driver directly oracle designer 10 but I have the same error that is this:
DBD: ORA-12154: TNS: connection identifier specified could not be resolved
someone there had the same concerns?
    cordially

    Hi,
so it looks like that your TNSNAMES.ORA file isn`t properly configured. Thats why you can connect with the IDT to your Oracle Database.
Your DBA`s should sent you the correct TNSNAMES.ORA file or the entry for your DB prior. After the tnsping works, you will be able to use the IDT properly.

  • Connecting oracle 10g express edition to jdeveloper

I am having all kinds of problems connecting oracle 10g express edition with my jdeveloper 10.1.3.3. I can query the database from my command line so I know it is set up, but for whatever reason jdeveloper will not connect with it. When I try to connect with the database through jdeveloper here is the error I keep getting:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:ORCL
I have been all through the google results looking for an answer and have come to the conclusion that it is something with either the listerner file or the tns file, but as of yet have been unable to locate them. here are both of those files too.

This has to be some kind of bug with 10g express because I see lots of people having similar problems. I'm in the process of uninstalling 10g, and I will re-install it see if that makes a difference. Again if anyone has any other ideas please keep them coming because this is utter BS it shouldn't be this hard.

When opening a form in SharePoint 12013 that was created from Infopath 2013, I get the following error.

An entry has been added to the Windows event log of the server.

I am guessing this has something to do with the UDCX connection and the database.
Can anyone help me get this fixed?

    Hi Jim,
Please check the following kb article when it occurs 5566errro with the UDCX conection file, try the method of using the Secure Store Service to store alternate credentials for the data connection method, or the method of stating the credentials

  • Oracle Forms from 6i to 10g -only blank screen is displaying after deployme

I have converted oracle Forms from 6i to 10g (almost 10 forms). In the development environment all 10 forms are working fine without any problems. I have deployed the forms in the server. Now all the forms are working fine except one form. Only blank screen is displaying in this case. What could be the reason? How to resolve this issue? This form is also working fine in the development environment.
    Thanks for all your suggestions.

    some possibilities:
    1. check the java console of the plugin you use (Jinitiator, Sun-plugin) and see if there are any errors reported.
    2. Do a full recompile of the form (ctrl+Shift+K, at least in german version)
    3. Maybe a navigation problem (seems unlikely for it works in dev-environment, but give it a try):
Create a new block, put a navigable textitem in it and show that textitem on your canvas, but that block as first navigatin block in the form-properties.
    4. Check other Pre-triggers(Pre-block, pre-textitem) if they are executed and may fail.
    hope this helps

  • Can we run oracle Forms 5 Application with 10G in Client/Server?

    Hi All,
Can we run oracle Forms 5 Application with 10G in Client/Server
    Mode?
    Regards
    Gaurav

In theory you can run it 2 tier - which means that you have the client (the machine the user is sitting at) being the same machine in which the forms application server is running. So yes. But specifically, we don't support a client server runtime anymore. 6i was the last version.
With 10g you will be running through a browser.

  • Batch change to forms source code in 10g

    Hi,
this may seem like a strange request but here goes. I am currently looking at upgrading my forms from 6i to 10g. I have a couple of hundred forms in all and many of them use the HOST command to create word files on the client. For this to work in 10g I've added webutil. However, I now need to change the code in all of these forms that call the host command to now call CLIENT_HOST. Is there a way that I can do this on mass rather than opening up each form and using the search replace function in the builder. Many thanks Dave

  • How can you execute a form without connecting to database?

    Hello,
Is it possible to run a form without connecting to database? If Yes, how?
    Thanking you very much
    Thobula Rakesh

    Hello Form Friends,
After R&D I found that, it is very much possible to execute a form without connecting to Database.
    Example:
    Step 1: Create a new form 'Form1'
    Step 2: Create a block 'Block1' and add button'But1'. Write a exit_form built-in on when-button-pressed trigger on 'But1' and compile it.
    Step 3: Create a on-logon trigger at form level and just give a message('on-logon');
    Step 4: Execute the form.
The form executes perfectly without asking any connection to the database. On-Logon trigger initiates a logon process to non-oracle data source.
