Forms 6i to 10g migration - FRM-30162 error

Hello folks!
I have a small question here. We are planning to migrate the forms version from 6i to 10g. The forms are deployed on HP-UX.
What I have done is tried to compile a form built in 6i using Forms Builder 10g. I get the FRM-30162 error.
The problem is I have one Horizontal TOOLBAR that is being used by multiple windows, including the base window (the window that contains the form when it is invoked the first time). There are multiple windows in the form. The form compiles without any errors in 6i.
The weird part is that this is not written as a warning, and despite having the error thrown, the .fmx is generated. Am lost here! Is there something that I am overlooking?
Is there any known work-around for this? Any guidance/help will be highly appreciated!

It really is NOT just a recompile.
For starters, the entire 3-tier architecture is different, which causes the need for potential changes using WEBUTIL. Compiling it won't add WEBUTIL and change TEXT_IO to CLIENT_TEXT_IO, or the same thing for a number of othere commands. It also doesn't address RUN_PRODUCT, which requires the RP2RRO pll.

  • Forms 6i to 10g Migration Questions

    Hi,
My company is thinking about migrating Forms 6i to 10g. I wonder if you can share some of your experience with us (and with thousands of others who will also face the same daunting task)
    1. How do you like/dislike Forms 10g after the migration?
    2. What are the pitfalls of Forms 10g? What are the strengths?
    3. Other than Oracle Migration tools, is there any other tools that can help us?
    4. How long is the migration process typically taken?
    5. What problems have been encountered in the upgrade process?
    Thank you very much!
    Sincerely,
    John Sun

May I answer your question with some questions of my own? :)
    1. Are you migrating from Forms6i client-server or web?
    2. If Web, to a non-Windows middle tier (hopefully)?
    3. Do you plan to incorporate OID/SSO and/or Portal in the new environment?
I just reached the end of a 6-month long prototyping project to migrate our Forms/Reports 6i application (80% client-server, 20% web) to 10g, using SSO and Portal for report destination. We migrated about a dozen forms of varying complexity and rewrote our main application/menu form. We originally thought the prototype would take 3-4 months. The purpose was to learn what we needed to develop the best migration approach and have an idea of what it would cost. The application has about 650 forms/reports modules. Costs and the learning curve prohibited a move to J2EE/ADF; oh I wished... Management is hoping we can complete the full migration in about a year, but I think... well, this is a public forum and I am using my real name. ;)
We've only been using 10g release 2 since the end of January. Stay away from release 1 at all costs. Even release 2 is not what I would call entirely stable. I just opened a SR on MetaLink a few days ago for a problem I was able to recreate where the use of a button on a form-level toolbar that directly or indirectly call_forms a new form, and then navigation occurs back to the original form (say, when trying to minimize or rearrange widows) causes the session to crash with the infamous ORA-92101. We rely heavily on a hierarchical tree for our application menu, and keyboard navigation on the tree is somewhat broken (tree triggers not firing).
However, many long-standing 6i bugs have been fixed, and I really, REALLY do appreciate being at PL/SQL version 10 in Forms.
But we have some real challenges too, some self-inflicted. Some 400 of our application forms were converted from SQL*Forms 3.0 via Kumaran a while back. This is admittedly our greatest challenge. The V3 forms, being they were character-based with no mouse support, had lots of code in Key-navigation triggers that was never meant to be in navigation triggers (validation, etc) and would get bypassed if the user skipped the field using a mouse. Kumaran solved this problem using mouse triggers which are no longer supported on the web. We also are attempting to introduce some enhancements during the migration like become Section 508 compliant.
I did not opt to use the migration tool; it doesn't really do that much for you anyway.
One headache for us was Reports. We eliminated many temporary tables (permanent tables created temporarily) in user schemas for the use of global temporary tables. Granted, this feature showed up in Oracle9i. But in 10g, we found inadvertently that database sessions for reports are initiated by a java process and reused for performance, meaning different reports sometimes (and unpredictably) are sharing database sessions instead of getting their own. It would've been nice to know this beforehand because it was a challenge to find out the hard way.
My biggest complaint is that Forms still lags behind in features that are part of the application server. For example, I would've loved to implement Enterprise Users and rid our database of the many thousands of user accounts. But Forms doesn't support it. And Oracle really should have provided a migration tool to create the OID resource that links the OID user account via SSO to the database account. Especially since Forms only works with database accounts. All we got was a 9i-based White Paper on the APIs to write our own. This is Oracle data, not application data for heavens sake!
I've opened easily over a hundred SRs during this time, and am quite sure that my name is mud by now and that I have lost any chance of ever getting hired by Oracle. ;)
If your DBAs are database-centric and not used to administering a middle tier-- or administer an old middle-tier like 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2, get them into instructor-led training on 10g administration BEFORE they have to install the 10g infrastructure and middle tiers. The architecture is radically changed and infinitely more complex. As far as the workload the developers will face; Forms is still pretty much Forms, but the state of your existing code will play into it.
I was so tired of spending years on older versions of Oracle software. And I am proud to announce that I am now intimately familiar with what is known as The Bleeding Edge.

  • Forms 6i to 10g migration-urgent

i have migrated all the forms from 6i to 10g, when the print is used in 6i itr says some alert msgs like print capture is complete but in 10g no such is appearing

Did you replace all of your RUN_PRODUCT calls?
    Now it is:

  • Upgrade from Forms 4.5 to 6i - FRM 41032 error

I am getting the following error when I upgrade from Forms 4.5 to Forms 6i -
"FRM-41032 Cannot set ENABLED attribute of current item. "
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I think you are setting that attribute in trigger which currently firing for that item.
    for eg,
you have one item "empno".Suppose you want to set attribute for that item.you can't set that in
when-new-item-instance,key-next-item,post-text-item or ... triggers which currently firing for that item. you can use some other item's trigger.
    thanks,
    viji.

  • Forms 6i to 10g migration and deployment

I have successfully migrated my Forms from 6i to 10g. Now on the new Application server10g when i run/launch my Form modules every time it installs jinitiator, i accept that; then it displays dialogbox titled "Enter Network Password" with information regarding(Firewall, Realm, Scheme, username and password). Ok, when i enter my userid&password i get a blank applet with message "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:oracle.forms.engine.Main". I have unchecked Jinitiator proxies from control panel....
What could be the problem here? I do appreciate any help in advance....

    Tony,
I have admin privs on the Application server computer. Apparently all my forms are working on my local computer with Forms builder, the problem comes when put them on the server and run through Application server. It sounds like configuration problems but i checked formsweb.cfg which ive embedded below and it looks ok.
Do i need to configure any other thing?
    # $Id: formsweb.cfg 15-apr-2005.13:17:30 pkuhn Exp $
    # formsweb.cfg defines parameter values used by the FormsServlet (frmservlet)
    # This section defines the Default settings. Any of them may be overridden in the
    # following Named Configuration sections. If they are not overridden, then the
    # values here will be used.
    # The default settings comprise two types of parameters: System parameters,
    # which cannot be overridden in the URL, and User Parameters, which can.
    # Parameters which are not marked as System parameters are User parameters.
    # SYSTEM PARAMETERS
    # These have fixed names and give information required by the Forms
    # Servlet in order to function. They cannot be specified in the URL query
    # string. But they can be overridden in a named configuration (see below).
    # Some parameters specify file names: if the full path is not given,
    # they are assumed to be in the same directory as this file. If a path
    # is given, then it should be a physical path, not a URL.
    # USER PARAMETERS
    # These match variables (e.g. %form%) in the baseHTML file. Their values
    # may be overridden by specifying them in the URL query string
    # (e.g. "http://myhost.mydomain.com/forms/frmservlet?form=myform&width=700")
    # or by overriding them in a specific, named configuration (see below)

    Hi all,
I am doing migration from IPM 10g to 11g.For that purpose I am using Migration client utility.

    please expert help me.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,
I'm having the same error. The Oracle Imaging and Process Management Web Server was installed on my machine. When I open the URL (http://<machine_name>/IBPMWeb), I'm getting "Communications Error Error Code: -1 Mode: Connect ServerAddress: Connected: No Description: Unknown Error: -1 class ATL::CComObject::Refresh. Was there a solution to this?

  • Forms 6i to 10g migration question?

We are considering upgrading our forms from 6i to 10g. The only problem I am getting from our application developers is that they say a web based form will not work within our application. Our application is a client server C+ based program, they have integrated the 6i forms into the application- the menus are written in C+ which execute a call to the forms that are compiled on each workstation.
I favor Oracle- always... But I do not know how to present to them the idea that the forms are now a URL that will reside on a appplication server. The push is to code the entire forms we use in C+- I would like to use 10g forms.
Is there any information that I can leverage to use 10g forms within a client server environement and wrap the 10g forms calls into a C+ application?
Confused......I am a DBA and not very good at development- please advise.

Take a look a Java webstart. You can have a desktop icon and open Forms in a Java applet window, without the browser. It looks a bit like a c/s application then. I don't know how to integrate that in a C+ application though, but I can imagine that you can call webstart from within your app.
Search this forum for webstart, e.g.

  • Opening a webutil form sends a FRM-92100 error

    Hi,
I don't have much experience in Oracle Forms, but I'm helping in the implementation of Linux clients. I'm using Firefox and installed the java 1.5.0_11-b03 plugin. I can work on the application without problems, but on some forms it sends me a FRM-92100 error. I asked to the forms programmers for this forms and they told me this forms used webutil functions. I gave permissions to the bin folder in the jvm folder and in the jre folder, but I can't see the jar that apears at the webutil.cfg
I have very limited access to the Application Server (10.1.2) on Linux, so until now I've tried to change things at the client side. The webutil version is the 1.0.6.

Solve the problem? Else this might help.
    1. Did you sign the two jar-files accordning to the readme.html?
    2. And did you accept the certificate at runtime?
    3. Also, compile the webutil.pll into webutil.plx

  • Please help with FRM-40508 error

    Hello everyone.
    I designed a form. I get a frm-40508 error.
Tables for this form are valid and exist.
I have no idea what else could cause this error.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sonya

    Hi
Is the table you are trying to insert into in the same Schema as the user you are compiling and running the form as?
eg. If you created the table as USER 'SCOTT', are you compiling and running the form as 'SCOTT'?
If the schema is the same for the table creation and the compilation/running of your form then I'm a bit stuck.
If, however, they are different then what you will need to do is grant a public synonym for your table and then grant Select, Insert, Update, Delete privelliges (as appropriate) to the user/role accessing the table/running the form.
    HTH.

  • FRM-40112 error with 10g Release 2 Forms

How do I get around the FRM-40112 error (attempted go-item to non-enabled item) in 10g? I want to present a column but not have the user modify it. This is an update/insert form. I can make it not keyboard navigable but the user can use the mouse to get to it and change it if it is enabled. I want to fix this instead of using the FORMS_REJECT_GO_DISABLED_ITEM environment parameter.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Yeah, the UPDATE_ALLOWED=FALSE works, but there is one column that is changed programmatically by the form and shown to the user. I need it not ENABLED but UPDATE_ALLOWED = TRUE. I may have to go with FORMS_REJECT_GO_DISABLED_ITEM=FALSE and revisit in the next release. It looks to me like this a catch-22.

  • Getting Error While Opening the Oracle Form 6i in 10g

    Hi All ,
FRM-10102: Cannot attach PL/SQL library XXX. This library attachment will be lost if the module is saved.
I am getting above error message while opening Oracle 6i Form in 10g.
I get the following Alert message when I try to attach the library to my form -
    Attached library name
S:\.........xxx.pll contains non-portable directory specification. Remove path? Yes/No?
If I select 'No', the Form compiles and runs without any error.
But if I select 'Yes', I get the following error message:
FRM-40039: Cannot attach library xxx while opening form.
All files (fmb, fmx, pll, plx) are on the same path. I detached and then re-attached the library but this didn't work for me?
    Help Appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ram.

use the shiped batch program frmplsqlconv.bat to convert all your forms/librarys from Forms 6i to 10g.
you can call it in wizard mode from the start menu (e.g. OracleDeveloperSuite <OraHome> => Forms Developer => Forms Migration Assistant (GUI Mode) and follow the instructions step by step
or you can call it by batch to convert all your forms/librarys. The batch file is found in
    <ORA10g_HOME>BIN\frmplsqlconv.bat
    =>
    frmplsqlconv.bat <formname>

  • FRM-92102 Error which accessing forms in EBS 12.0.6

    Hi,
I am getting the FRM-92102 error, but not able to identify why this error is coming.
    My configuration is as below,
    Appl Tier: AP1, AP2
    CM Tier: CM1, CM2
    DB Tier: DB1, DB2 (RAC)
I have setup the hardware load balancer.
Now when application is running on all nodes and i try to access the forms, it gives me FRM 92102 error.
If i shutdown application on either AP1 or AP2 and try to access the forms everything works fine.
I would like to know why, when application is running on both nodes do i get this error.
    Thanks,
    Prasad

    Hi,
Can you find more details in $LOG_HOME/ora/10.1.3/j2ee/forms/forms_<default_group_1>/application.log?
Also, generate the FRD file and see if it collects more details about the error.
