Forms 6i with oracle 8.0.5

Please tell me , can i install Forms 6i with oracle 8.0.5 database ?

As far as I know you can use Forms 6i with a 8.0.5 database.
You will have problems if you try to install this development software in the same Oracle Home as any pre 6i development software.
Tip. Designer 6i repository has to be installed on a 2e edition 8i database(8.1.6). So if you are planning to use Forms6i in conjuction with Designer 6i...
Just food for thought..
Regards David

We cannot help if you don't give us the error number that you get.
Also something that you might want to do is to search this error number on OTN.

Configure the net configuration for both 9idb and 9ids in the same way. Make sure the TNSlisner is started.

  • Oracle 6i forms issue with Oracle 9i Database

    Hi Friends,
I am having Oracle Forms Developer installed with patchset18.The Version is 6.0.8.27.0
When i connect the forms builder to 9i Database (9.2.0.1) the form builder is getting crashed but i am able to connect the forms builder to e-business suite database(9.2.0.6)
    I tried installing 9i Database(9.2.0.1) on windows 2003 server,windows xp,windows 2000.
When i connect my forms builder to any of these databases the forms builder is crashing with don't send message error on (ifbld60.exe).
Is there any compatibility issue between forms builder(6i) and oracle 9i(9.2.0.1).Please suggest me.
    Regards,
    Arun .N

Forms 6i connects to Oracle 9 databases just fine, even though it is no longer certified by Oracle.
First of all, can you connect to the database with SQL Plus? Make sure that works first.
The other thing that comes to mind is the AL32UTF8 character set. Forms 6i and other older Oracle software cannot connect to databases using it. But I have only seen that problem with Oracle 10g databases, so I am not sure about the Oracle 9 db.
Here is a thread discussing the problem: Re: connecting form 6i  to oracle database 10G express edition

  • How to connect oracle forms 10g with oracle 10g express database?

    Hi all,
I have downloaded and installed oracle forms 10g and oracle database 10g express, when I open net configuration assistant to test local net service, I tested the default service (EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA) BUT THE RESULT IS "ora-28547 connection to server failed probable oracle net admin error"
How can I solve this issue?
My tnsname.ora is located in c:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\tnsnames.ora, and its contents is:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: c:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = nour-pc)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    Edited by: user10228498 on Jan 21, 2011 11:37 PM

I copied the contents of C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora and appended it to C:\DevSuiteHome\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
and tried net configuration management to test local net service, the test was ok, thus the first problem resolved.
but the login problem in forms developer still exist and it claims that: ora-12154 tns could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
    any ideas?

  • Trouble installing "Form Builder" with Oracle Developer 6/6i

I get the following "Error Info" message first:
    "path vrf(86): Unbound variable 'path_too_long_prompt'"
    Then the following:
"The Oracle Installer cannot update the system path variable to %new- path% because it is too long. Please restrict your system path to 127 characters and make sure D:\Oracle\ORADEV\bin is included in your path."
Note that the reference to the D:\ drive is correct, but how do I correct this problem with the path variable being too long?
"Form Builder" does not get installed but the "Report Builder" which follows this step in the process installed just fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can install. Install Oracle 9i DB and D2k on different HOME. Then, configure D2K tnsnames.ora as per 9iDB tnsnames.
it will work, and works fine for me.

  • Forms 6i with Oracle XE

Is it possible to run Forms 6i Patch 17/18 against Oracle XE database? I keep getting access violation errors and the C/S Window just shuts down.

I am on patchset 16 (Linux) with 6i and I am having similar problems on the linux side against XE running on a windows box on the network. I don't think it is the platform, but I believe it is the XE. I have no problem running 6i forms (c/s) on linux against the 10g R2 database server running on a linux box on the network.
I have not updated to patchset 18 yet, but will and try again.

  • Is it possible to use Oracle Forms 10g with Oracle 10g Lite Database?

    Hi All,
We are in process of migrating our forms from 6i to 10g environment.
We have two kinds of applications, one set run on general Oracle 11g database and the other set of forms run at the client machine using Oracle lite database.
We dont have any problem with Forms 6i to connect to Lite database as it allows to connect through ODBC:DSN names. When we try to connect to a lite database (10gR3) from Forms 10g through ODBC/DSN, it's not allowing and throwing the below error.
ORA-03121 : no interface driver connected - function not performed
Can someone tell me if there is something wrong in our approach? Also advise how to use Oracle Lite database with Forms 10G.
    Sincerely,
    Praveen Manthena

    Hi,
I have experience with 6i with lite database 10g. There are two version of lite database one is multi language support and other one in english. There lang problem in connectivity with multi language 10g lite database. I done connectivity with single language connectivity of 6i with 10g lite database. You should try this one with forms 10g.

  • Need some help on data encryption in Forms 6i with Oracle Database.

    Hi,
    Here is my requirement:
I have a username and a password field, and i can add new users to it and ofcourse set a password for it.This password will be visible as asteriks on the forms but i want it to entered in the encrypted format in the database in the designated table. Can anyone help me with this.(hope my question is clear!!!)
    Thanks,
    Aparna.

    Hi,
try it in the follwing very simple way:
translate each character of the password to it's ascii value and add a constant value you like. e.g. i = asc(substr(pwstring,i,1)) + k. concatenate each char-value of i(whitch have to be a fix length string of f.e. 4 digits) to build op the encrypted string. you can rich up this by calculating k in differents ways like:
K = offset + i. and by the way this encryption can call n times, mean encrypt the encryption, if you want.
the decryption is yout turn ;-)
    hope this will help you...

  • Forms 6i with Oracle 8i

    Hi,
It seems that the other guy 'u99918' won't answer, but I have 8i and forms 6i on the machine (win2k pro). After installing Forms, the config file said to add a bunch of Virtual paths for things for the listener. How can I do this?
I can't find anything on it.
They are installed in 2 different homes because Forms wouldn't install in the same home as the 8i.
    Munden.

OK, I have gone back through the posts and found this. It works fine for me.
Here is what will fix your problem. I got the answer from someone further back in the archive.
These files are the wrong version in Forms 6i. (listener.ora, sqlnet.ora, and tnsnames.ora)
Copy these files from the 8i home you created: c:\your8ihome\network\admin
    To your Forms 6i directory:
    c:\yours6ihome\net80\admin
Now go to the services and Stop the Listener service and restart it again.
    It should now work.
    Munden.

  • Pinging ip's with oracle developer 10g

    db and dev 10g rel2 ,
    hi all,
i want to ping some ip's through a form built with oracle developer 10g rel2 ,
    - i have two choices here ,
-there is an application can ping a lot of ip's automatically , it has options to load a file in which ip's are stored , and another option to save the result into a .csv file ,
so i am searching for a way to control that application , i want a way to do these tasks through a button on my form :
    1- open that application .
    2 -load the ip's .
3- save the result to a .csv file .
4- transferring the .csv data to a block on my form . -- and this is the simple step which i can do individually , but i do not know how to deal with the steps previously mentioned .
2- the second choice is to open the os command prompt through a button , and ping through it , but the problem is the result would not be displayed in columns , and i do not know a way to load the result into a block on the form.
if you could help me with any of these choices , or if you have another one , i would appreciate that .
    thanks in advance

i've tried to use it like it is in the example : , i used only the first two parameters
    DECLARE
      c  utl_tcp.connection;  -- TCP/IP connection to the Web server
    BEGIN
      c := utl_tcp.open_connection(remote_host => 'www.acme.com',
                                   remote_port =>  80);
end ; by the way , before i posted the thread , i've tried it , but i faced problems while executing it , that's why i asked if it is
suitable for me or not .
when i execute it by the above code , the engine tells me that "procedure successfully completed , but without any result .
2- if you could tell me what does "remote_port" means , because i posted the number in the example as it is .
i do not know what is port ?
3- do you know about a jave bean can do my requirements ?
    thanks a lot

  • Application 4.5 with oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi All,
recently we have migrated our test database from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4,but now we are facing problem while loading form in to d2k & compiling (forms 4.5).
same forms were working fine with oracle 10.2.0.1
Oure database is on 32 bit windows platform.
    I have some questions.
Is form 4.5 is compatible with oracle 10.2.0.4 ?
any settings need to be done in the form code to make the form work with oracle 10.2.0.4 ? as it is not possible for us to migrate the form from 4.5 to higher version due to some internal problem.
    Thanks in advance.

same forms were working fine with oracle 10.2.0.1Strange... if my memory doesn't fail (it's a long long time I haven't been using that forms version) Forms 4.5 is a 7.3 Oracle version, which has never been supported with 10g DB.
