Hello,
The windows machine is working perfectly as I can connect using sql* plus, developer, report builder not only from the machine itself but from the other machines with Windows Operating system,
The problem i am facing is only at Xandros Machine which has only Oracle form builder 6i installed and connecting it to the database (on windows os), I have copied the tnsnames.ora (of Xandros OS) lines in my previous post , please check and suggest solution.

ThanksWell, first of all why you want to go for 2 tier stuff ? You should be using Forms 9i/10g and application server (that is: 3 tier architecture).
The software (that is Developer 2K) would obviously be different for all the platforms just like any other software.
Also give us the details of your setup (server and client machines), so that some other suggestions can be given.

Okay, i missed the 2nd line in your post. So your server is Windows based and you want to use Linux based client to connect to it. If the executables are to be deployed on Windows then you need to compile also on Windows. So compilation of binaries on your client is out of question. You can only develop and make changes sitting on your client machine. Now if there is any version of Forms 6i for Linux ? i am not sure. You need to check.

• M58p 7479-RS2 Small Form Factor PC - Recommendations For Operating System

Hi
I am having trouble working out which Operating System to get for this older computer (produced in 2008 I think).
The closest model to it I can find, on Lenovo's web site is the M58p 7479-RS1.
This shows several firmware updates and a BIOS update but I need an Operating System to begin this process really, and not knowing which one to get is annoying.
Could someone shed some light on a good one to get for this pedigree of machine ? ...
Thanks in advance,
Matt McAllum.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Some versions of that system were sold with Windows 7, and drivers are available, so that would be my suggestion. If you won't be upgrading beyond 2GB, then use 32-bit; 4GB or more, use 64-bit.

• Operative system

For people like me that use pc or mac only for adobe products, why Adobe don't create an operative system with some program included
Adobe OS photo 1
Products: Photoshop, acrobat,reader,presenter,livecycle,lightroom,adobe tv video included,flash player,a browser in air technlogy with html5 support
Adobe video Os1:premiere,after effect,acrobat,on location,....and so on
And a suitable Os with every program anyone nedeed....
its not a good idea??
stop useless program in the pc
ps: you have to included a hard disk recovery program with format features,a spam detector,antivirus an other utilities....

Developing and maintaing an operating system is probably a really, really heavy investment with limited medium-term pay-off. (Just consider the number of engineers at Microsoft or Macintosh concerned with OS-issues.)
Moreover having to cooperate with and accommodate a multitude of hardware-producers of various components seems a chore and then some.
And even after Freehand has been discontinued and Quark has annoyed some (possibly many) customers enough to switch to Indesign I think most of us Adobe-users would like to maintain at least the appearance of the opportunity to switch to another company’s product/s if ever serious competition should arise.
Additionally Adobe does at current, so far as I can tell, not offer sufficiently professional 3D-applications for some needs, so the system would have to be open to those and those companies may be loathe to invest into porting to another OS after Windows, Mac and Linux.
And sealing off software can be of dubious value; Paintbox as an image editing system for example pretty much vanished years/decades ago
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantel_Paintbox
So I think the idea is not a very good one, but maybe some Adobe employees can elaborate on their view.

• THE BEST DEVELOPER SUITE OPERATING SYSTEM

Does anyone have an opinion about what would be the best operating system to run developer suite 10g

Developer looks better in Windows, and there are a few things in *NIX that don't work quite as well. Plus, you can still run the OC4J server to test forms in DS instead of having to run them in AS.

I had the developer preview for IOS 6 on my phone, and just got a message telling me that my operating system is no longer active. How do I get my phone activated again?
I had the developer preview installed. Never had to update to the release version of the OS. Now, the preview has expired, and I cannot use my phone because my iTunes reads my OS as being current, but my iPhone cannot active. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

If I Google for Michael Superczynski, first match tells "Michael Superczynski's Profile : Apple Support Communities". It in fact does a lot of work there even if not paid.
And yes we do not have disagreement about "official apple developers". Problem is that Apple screwed our devices because we are "official apple developers" and did effort to stop us getting proper help. I unbricked my ipad and iphone thanks to unofficial help. Thank you who wrote this unofficial help and "no thanks" for apple for ruining my access to my devices. My mistake was assuming that "update" button on my devices works. It did not because it always told "Your device has latest IOS6 installed" until it bricked yesterday.
If Apple does not want to listen us, continue do delete post, blame us installing your software and yes we stop buying your devices and developing for them.

• Opening an operating system window from Forms

An old feature from SQL*Forms was that you could open an Operating System Window by pressing a function key (or combination of keys)
I think this is still available in Oracle Forms 10g, but I can't remember which function key to press.
Can anyone help? I know that the function keys can vary across systems, so that I'm looking for is the default key (or keystrokes). I don't think it matters which versions of software are being used, but in case it does, the setup is:
Oracle Forms: 10gR2
Client PC: Windows XP
Client Browser: Internet Expolorer 6
Application Server: 10GR2 on Windows Server 2003
Database Server: 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003
The database has the ORAFORMS$OSC role granted to PUBLIC, and the "<OSC>" flag is showing in the Forms Console.
Control-K gives a list of the function keys, but doesn't list anything for opening a DOS window:
As far as I know, frmweb.res has not been altered, but it doesn't list an option for opening an OS window anyway.
This is not about the HOST command.
Thanks, Martin

Hi michaeltowse,
This is indeed something more complicated. Let me give you
some details about the project:
This project is to be initially created in Adobe Captivate.
It consists of the main menu that is to be created in Flash (menu
1); sub-menus, which are to be created in Captivate (menu 2); and
menus of sub-menus, which are to be created in Captivate as well
(menu 3). Now, the part where I need help on is the part that goes
from sub-menus (menu 2) to menus of sub-menus (menu 3). When any
option is to be selected from the sub-menu (menu 2), a new window
is suppose to pop-up (menu 3) that is suppose to be in Flash. This
new window is suppose to be a new Flash window and is not suppose
to be opened in a browser, but it's suppose to be opened in another
Flash window (SWF window). This whole entire project is to be
executed via an embedded Flash executable. Thus all the .SWF files
that were created in either Captivate or Flash are to be tied
together via a Flash executable. I was told in Captivate's Forum
that this may be done via ActionScript in Flash and I'm wondering
whether that is that case. Please tell me if my project makes
sense.
Thank you.

• Forms and ... operating systems.

Hi friends,
do you know in which operating systems can Forms 6i run?
Do you know the link in metalink pages where appears the Certified Platforms (Op.Syst.) for Forms 6i or similar web links?
Thanks a lot.
Jose.

Hi Francoise,
thanks, but I've already had that link and doesn't appear exactly what I want.
I mean that I'd like something simple, just like a list similar to the Metalink "Certify" tab page (https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=140:1:1766041936857928800::NO:::) but adding Operatings systems like Windows 95 and 98 that aren't in that list:
Something similar to:
FUJITSU PRIMEPOWER
HP HP/UX PA-RISC
HP Tru64 UNIX
IBM AIX
Linux (x86)
Solaris Operating System (SPARC)
Solaris Operating System x86
Windows 95/98/NT
Windows XP (x86)
Windows 2000 (x86)
Windows 2003 (x86)
But i'd like that the source would be an "official" oracle link (web page), you know..
Thanks again,
Jose.

• Call a scanner form form and sve scaned document in operating system

hi
i wnat to call a scanner in in form 6i and want to save saned document in operating system not in database. any body can give me guide regarding this.
i will be really thankfull to you for this
ok
ALLAH HAFIZ

i wnat to call a scanner in in form 6i and want to save saned document in operating system not in database.I assume you are referring to a document scanner and not a bar code scanner.
If all you want to do is have the document scanner scan the document and place the scanned document in a directory, then you don't need Forms to do anything. The sanner does it automatically. I would not use Forms to initiate scanning the document because the user will need to place the document in the scanner manually anyway, so just have them press the scanner button.

• How Forms can execute operating system files

How can we create a button which when pressed can execute an exe file from the operating system....
Please help me soon

That's very simple.
Check the host built-in.
You may have something like the following:
PROCEDURE run_rep (x_file in varchar2) IS
-- runs a report not using run_product
-- thus not opening reports background engine
cmdstr varchar2(200);
the_username varchar2(20);
the_password varchar2(20);
the_connect varchar2(20);
pl_id paramlist;
begin
the_username := Get_Application_Property(USERNAME);
the_password := Get_Application_Property(PASSWORD);
the_connect := Get_Application_Property(CONNECT_STRING);
cmdstr:='R30RUN32.EXE module='
replace(x_file, '.rep', '')| |'.rep userid='
the_username| |'/'| |the_password| |'@'| |the_connect| |' usesdi=yes';
host (cmdstr);
END;
This is something that really works.
In like manner you may run any OS command.
If you wish the command not to display anything on screen, just do:
host(cmdstr, no_screen);
RTM first.
Best of luck,

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the side, back, or bottom of your computer.
Most driver packages available from most computer manufacturers and chipset providers contain setup information for both 32 and 64 bit operating systems. The installer determines the version to install based on the indentified operating system. This is an industry wide pratice and nothing is wrong.

• How to Install Oracle 10g in Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system

Hi,
I am using Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system. While i was installing oracle 10g i got error and not able to install. How to install the Oracle 10g databse on this operating system. Is there any patch to install this or i have to use other version of oracle with window 7 operating system?
Thanks in advance
Mayank Adhikari

The argument would be who wants to install Oracle database on Windows 7. I think most probably by the developers who wants to "Try" something prior deal with a production database, right?
For a developer, installing database using the hack is more than NOT having a local database running from the local system. I installed all the products mentioned with windows7bugs post and used the following tools to successfully connect and retrive data from the database instances.
Toad 9.7.x.x
SQL Developer
SQL/Plus
Developer 6i (Another hack, please check this link http://windows7bugs.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/installing-oracle-developer-forms-reports-6i-on-windows-7-64bit/).
I think the discussion about whether all the features of client/server are still available with such a hacked installation is meaningless as far the information requested was strictly for Windows 7, not for a Server OS.

• Issues in calling Sql Loader through forms developer (10g)

Hi,
I am developing a form(in 10g) ,in which I am calling sql loader for loading data onto a oracle database table from external source (e.g. data file is a .CSV file).
But , somehow the sql loader is not getting executed.
Here , I am giving the environment settings , approach i am taking;
This is a distributed system , both the application server,and database server are mounted on two different servers.
The form is delpoyed on the application server.
The database table , and the sql loader are configured on the databse side.
I am using host(<sql loader command>) command to invoke the Operating System command through forms.
The sql loader is working ok , and the data is getting loaded successfully onto the required database table when I am executing the sql loader command on Unix prompt , but through the forms , it's not working.
Do I need to change some environmental setting to make this work...
Any quick help in this regard is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Craig,
I have already tried out the option of calling sql loader through stored procedure,but this is not working ...
could you please share any examples to do so ...
code snippet i am using in forms:
declare
usid get_application_property(userid);
pwd get_application_property(password);
db get_application_property(host);
msqlldr varchar2(250);
begin
msqlldr:='/u01/oracle/formss/bin/sqlldr' username=<uid/pwd@db> control=<control file name> data=<data file name> log=<log file name>
hosts(msqlldr);
end;
Note that sqlldr command ,for that matter any unix shell command is not working through the hosts() command ...
could you please suggest any way out ...
Thanks.

• Does Oracle9i/Forms Developer support Win98/XP Home

I would like to download Oracle9i/Forms Developer to build forms. Can the NT version be installed on Windows 98 SE or Windows XP Home Ed and run without problems? Thanks.

the character sets are different for client and server. the server side character set is AR8ISO8859P6 and for client side its AR8MSWIN1256. they registry key is NLS_LANG which needs to be changed to the above character sets accordingly. On the client you will need to add the language support in the operating system. see if arabic character set is working in your other applications.
this is about it.

• Operating System specific variables

I would like to determine the operating system on which the application server is installed.
We have a Linux and a Windows operating system running Oracle application server 6i and Oracle application server 9i.
The forms look in the database for the path from where to run reports. Initially we had only the windows machine so we have path specific to windows, we have added a new linux operating system with Oracle 9i application server, so we are having problems with path.
Is there a way by which I can determine the operating system and accordingly change the path.
Thanks in advance.

You have presumable noticed that the System.getenv() method is deprecated.
You might look at bug ID 4199068
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4199068.html
which calls for it to be reinstated.
In the user comments there is some JNI code to implement your own getenv function, and other workarounds. Unfortunately this RFE is now closed, so we can't vote for it.
