Forms Hands-On Training

Has anyone worked with Forms Hands-On Training sample code from OTN?
I managed to get it up and running on NT. The only problem that I have is the Images are not showing and the page which will let you upload image is not working. I am suspecting that My DAD configuration is not correct. When I add a new DAD I can't see it, it disapears, maybe it is the way it should be. Can anyone give me some info on DAD configuration.
Thank you

Perhaps you should start with the:
Architecture at a conceptual level difference between C/Server and web based architecture. How the processing differs and is transferred to the App server.
Then move on to Jinitiator etc....
Next you could cover what needs to be changed in the new architecuture, especially if you are using Client features:host/calling excel etc..here you could introduce webutil.
You could cover converting icons to jpg/gifs.
Then get to the actual new features for developers which you could cover quickly --as you mentioned these are seasoned developers, they will pick these things quickly.

I have download the required files from the Forms hands-on training session and want to install the database. After a succesfull ftp upload of the export file (binary method) to a HP-UX system, I import the file as indicated in section 7 of the installation instructions.
I then receive several kind of the following messages:

  • Hands on training class coming up: what to expect?

    Hi:
Finally, after more than 2 years, I am at the final stage of my OCP path, namely the Hands on Training.
What should we expect from this class? My class will be Performance Tuning for 10g.
Is there some kind of exam at the end? Are there specific texts used? Are there any group work based assignments? Homework?
I really want to get the most out of the experience so want to arrive prepared.
    Cheers.

    Hi Steve,
do not attend Oracle University classes . . . The other reason is that you have to in order to meet a requirement for certification. You are not alone there, many folkd see the hand-on OU course requirement as a money-grab:
First, who is to say that Oracle University is the best place to acquire the necessary skills to become Oracle certified? There are other resources that can provide the same level of coverage of the exam topics and DBA roles. Granted, Oracle's exam objectives map nicely to the courses offered (on purpose, I'm sure), but how about those organizations that decide on bringing in someone to train their people on the same topics outlined in the exam objectives using non-Oracle material or instructors? Is the quality of their training different if the person performing the training is as qualified or better qualified than Oracle's own instructor? Furthermore, they're not breaking any licensing rules since they are legally allowed to use their Oracle licenses to train their own staff.
My second problem relates to the reason someone may decide to use a third-party training organization to provide these in-house classes -- the cost. Oracle University classes are quite expensive. By forcing OCP candidates to attend an Oracle University class Oracle is helping to ensure a revenue stream for its education division. Unfortunately, it may also have the effect of discouraging potential OCP candidates from pursuing their certification past the OCA stage. I always thought it was about getting qualified candidates out into the workforce, though it now appears the OCP certification is about filling seats in Oracle University classes.
This leads me to my third problem -- any of the Oracle University classes outlined above is valid in satisfying this requirement.
the instructors are typically very good and quite knowledgeable).I disagree! Some a GREAT, but most of them have very little real-world experience. Steve Karam was a senuior instructor at Oracle University, and he has some amazing stories . . .
I like this blog, from an OU student:
    http://natalian.org/archives/2005/07/01/week-2-at-the-oracle-university/
Week 2 at Oracle University:  ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS !
Steve, I like your steps as an alternative to OU:

+1. Download Oracle documentation and software. The only "cost" here involves having to register with Oracle Technology Network (OTN). Being a member of OTN is something you want to do. There are no negatives associated with belonging to OTN. All the documentation and Oracle software you could ever want is available here seven days a week at the same low cost to one and all: free. The only software you cannot get here is patch software. In a learning mode, the likelihood of you running into a bug that requires a patch is very low. What you miss out on by not having access to patches is exposure to the patch installation process. The top books or guides you should read are Concepts, Administrator's Guide (and its Windows version, plus Getting Started for Windows), Installation Guide for <fill in your OS> (and the release notes), Backup and Recovery Concepts, Net Services Administrator's Guide, and SQL*Plus User's Guide and Reference. That is over 3000 pages - and that is just to start with because there are plenty of other guides you will need to read.+
+2. Subscribe to Oracle Magazine. Published six times a year, this complimentary subscription provides news and information about Oracle straight from Oracle. Several of the regular columns are very good, first and foremost being Ask Tom by Tom Kyte. You should plan to make regular visits to Mr. Kyte's website at OTN.+
+3. Visit Oracle DBA websites. Most of these websites, including the originating source of this article at www.databasejournal.com, have a free question and answer forum. There are many very knowledgeable contributors to these forums. Some are exceptional in their knowledge. Be aware that all answers are not always correct, but even the wrong ones may help steer you in the right direction at times. Before posting a question, make some attempt on your own to have researched the answer. You can learn a lot by reading what is posted, but you will learn much more and much quicker if you participate in providing or posting answers. If you see a question no one has replied to yet, look up the answer and post it. This means spending a portion of your day surfing the websites and doing the research and writing, so be aware that this type of internet usage during working hours may not be condoned by your employer (i.e., do it on your own time).+
+4. Join a local user's group. These generally are not free, and many companies will sponsor their employees in these groups. Some groups have free access to online technical information (even without being a member). Many groups have quarterly meetings with guest speakers who cover a wide range of topics. Better yet are the groups who host annual training days. Oracle's OpenWorld event is the ultimate in this realm, and it commands a hefty price just to attend. Oracle also hosts (free) Technology and Developer Days, which are half to full day events where Oracle representatives put on demos or present lectures on some aspect of a new or hot Oracle feature.+
+5. Buy books, and lots of them. What is missing in one is usually covered in another similar book. You are no longer in the land of the free (really, that's not a political statement), so you'll need to contain your costs here. eBay is an excellent source of acquiring books. One of the best places to purchase new books is at www.bookpool.com. Bookpool virtually always beats Amazon and other online booksellers, and it always beats the price you pay when buying from a "brick and mortar" store. Barnes & Noble, Borders and other storefront sellers (including their online stores) almost always cost more than what you can find at Bookpool. Which books to buy? Anything from O'Reilly is going to be good. Oracle Press is a mixed bag of quality and is generally my publisher of last resort. Oracle8i DBA Bible by Jonathan Gennick et al is excellent. Mr. Gennick co-authored O'Reilly's Oracle Net8 Configuration and Troubleshooting, which is a superb reference on Oracle networking. Once you are ready for the nitty-gritty details, you will need Expert One-on-One by Tom Kyte (now published by APress, and previously by Wrox). This book is the gold standard of Oracle. Do not buy books for older versions of Oracle. Buying the complete reference set for Oracle7 is a complete waste of money, as are many of the Oracle8 books (do not bother with the Oracle 8 exam prep book either). Oracle8i books are still quite relevant, and there have not been that many definitive books on Oracle9i.+
+6. Buy a set of certification books and get certified. I happen to like the Sybex series for OCP. Not only do the books provide you a fair amount of preparation for the certification exams, they also come in handy as reference books (they are full of examples and command syntax). The package deal for 8i (three books) is cheaper than buying each book separately. In addition to buying the certification prep books, you should be certified. Do not cheat yourself and go down the cheat-sheet road for certification. Put in the time to study and pass. Not only do you learn Oracle, you get some recognition for it as well. Some tests are easier than others are, but it always feels good seeing the green bar being longer than the red bar. The Self Test Software exam prep programs are dead on with respect to what the real exams are like. Individually, they are around $100 each, but STS frequently has sales promotions where you can realize significant savings. The online version is the cheaper way to go. You do not really need the CD's after you pass an exam.+
NOTE: If you are thinking about getting Oracle8i certified, today is not too late to start. On May 1st, Oracle announced the retirement of the 8i track. You have until the end of 2004 to complete all of the 8i exams. If you have any aspirations of becoming an Oracle9i OCP, your path here should include first becoming an 8i OCP. Your cost to become a 9i OCP is one upgrade exam. No ILT requirement. That alone saves you $2500. It's not too late, but time is running out.
+7. Purchase an online training program (or use what your company may already have). Oracle has self-study CD courses, as do other vendors. At $250 per day for instructor-led online courses, you can "attend" the same classes you pay $500 per day in person. You can also purchase a one-year subscription to an online library with over 400 courses. Here is a tip if your company is in the partners program: did you know you already have a free subscription to this online library? Otherwise, the cost is only $280.+
+8. Pay for training on your own. At the high end of the cost scale, you can pay for classes and training at a private company. Before signing a contract and spending around $3000 for a three month or 250 hour long program of instruction (POI), do some homework. Is the company reputable? Has it experienced a lot of instructor turnover? Are the instructors well qualified to be teaching Oracle database administration in the first place? Do you get your own workstation or PC while in class? Any guarantees of retaking a class module if you fail an exam? Do they offer financing? Are other package deals available (e.g., learn UNIX and Oracle at the same time)? Is the company being sued for copyright infringement (using some other company's training material and isn't it strange the front page is always missing on their handouts)? Do books come with class, or do you buy those on your own? If they come with the class, see if you can purchase them on your own and save some money. Most employers offer tuition reimbursement, but do not be surprised if your employer will not or cannot offer this to you. The reason why? Because tuition reimbursement programs require that the POI result in an academic grade.+

  • WebCenter Forms Recognition Design Training

I'm looking for any training materials for WebCenter Content Forms Recognition Designer.  Specifically I'm looking for anything that will help me figure out how everything ties together.  Anything that's a sample of how to develop from scratch a simple form?

There is a sample non-AP project for Forms Recognition available though the Knowledge Base on My Oracle Support.
While this sample is not a 'tutorial' it does go some way to describing the process of creating a project from scratch, and provides a 'starting point' for doing that.
The Knowledge Base article containing the sample project is available here.

OK. I did manage to figure out a work around by centering the envelope on an 8.5 x 11 page. This is not the way I used to have it set up, but it works. With thanks to "Printing envelopes from Address Book to Epson 545", I was able to figure out a work around.

  • Availability of Hands on Training class.

    Hi.
Im trying to register for a course that will be in the US.
I am following the 9i path, and understand that one can choose some classes from the 10g route also.
Problem is, each time I select a course that interests me
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=4&dc=D11299GC21
It tells me that the course isnt scheduled / available and that I should contact an Educational Consultant.
Is this the normal routine? I wanted to know if anyone else has had to wait / arrange their class this way. Im in no hurry - I would like to do this in August and I am prepared to travel if needed - but I would also like clarification.
    Many thanks as always.

    Hi.
Has anyone tried calling that number? No matter what time, or from which phone I call from, I get the busy tone...
I contacted the local provider of Oracle classes and it seems the class I wanted is not available where I live (Caribbean) - I will have to fly to the US and take the week long course.
    This I can do.
The next step is trying to finish the application for the course: my company uses Oracle 9i and Financials so I am assuming that we are partners in the OPN. No one at my company knows! So, I tried calling this number (Spanish speaking) and guess what? I was hung up on! (1-888-677-2002)
I, or hopefully my firm, are ready to spend nearly $2500 on this course and its really, really frustrating trying to get information!

    Thanks.

  • Basic form help needed

I am new to Dreamweaver 8 (but have worked with simple html a
quite a bit) and am working on building a, hopefully, simple
prototype for a project. What I need to do is collect user-entered
text and user-selected dropdown box data on one page and send it to
another for presentation there. After looking at the Help screens,
I looked at using Session variables and it seems that is the best
way to pass the data. Where I am stuck is in the (from Help
Contents) Making Pages Dynamic - Creating Forms - Creating HTML
forms help. They first say to, in step 2, Select Insert > Form
(which doesn't do anything - you have to click another option,
which I figured meant Form again). Then, in step 3, they say to
"Specify the page or script that will process the form data." by
selecting the file in the Action box in Properties. I don't have a
file to "process the form data" and don't really know what they are
    talking about. Help!
I originally (before I reverted to using Help) set it up with
Insert->Form->Text Field text entry boxes, figuring this was
a Form field that could be captured and passed on. Right? Wrong? I
guess I thought the method would be to define a variable name
associated with a text input field in one page, then pass it with
the value to the next page. That is pretty much what it seems
Session variables do (?), which I discovered when I started looking
    at Help.
So, was I on the right track for a simple implementation and
missed the way to capture and transmit the data, or do I need to
use the Forms->Forms option? If the former, how do I define the
variable names? If the later...well, I am real confused then. :-)
    Thanks for your help.
(btw, we do have training material coming - went with
Dreamweaver for Dummies, Peachpit Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 Hands-On
Training "dead tree media" and TechRepublic Fast Track Dreamweaver
8 CBT. Any opinions on those?)

Session variables as the name suggests are created when a
user starts a session and last till the session is open. You form
doesn't really need session variables unless you are carrying form
data from one page to another and need to keep it associated with
that specific user such as in shopping cart applications.
I have never used the dreamweaver insert form, so can't help
you there. why not code the form yourself, especially since you
    have been using html
    The link below may help.

  • Oracle 8i/Forms 6i Connection

    To all Oracle experts,
I desperately need your help on getting connection to the Oracle database from Forms 6i.
I've tried reading all the related topics at the Oracle discussion group on Forms 6i but can't seem to make it work.
I have Oracle 8i Personal Ed. running on Win 98. I recently installed Forms and Reports 6i and downloaded the EIT_HEALTH_LIVING Hands-on Training from Oracle to test. I got to the Data Block Wizard step and tried to access a table in the Oracle database. The tutorial said to type "koow" and password "koow" with database being "eit", I got the error "ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name". I already defined the user using 8i Navigator. I modified the tnsnames.ora in several ora files to no avail.
    My questions are:
    1. When I first install Forms 6i, it "seems" to be pointing to the older oracle 95 version (I already modified the tnsnames.ora in orawin95).
How do I know which database Forms is trying to connect to (ora98 or ora95); how can I find out the database name? How do I create the tables in the right database?
    2. What do I have to do to tnsnames.ora files or the likes to connect to the right database? What is the right syntax to modify the files (IPC key, host, service name SID)?
Your expert advice is greatly appreciated.

Try doing the following. It MAY solve your problem.
-- Make sure you can connect to the database using a service name (protocol TCP). You must have something like the following in tnsnames.ora. (both at network/admin for 8i and net80/admin for devloper)
    yourSID_here.COM =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = your_com_name_here)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = yourSID_here.com)
-- start the listner from the dos prompt.
(lsnrctl start) Make sure listner.ora has an entry something like the following
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = your_com_name_here)(PORT = 1521))
-- try to connect USING THE new service name
    null

  • HI, IN TRAINING AND EVENT MGT

    HII
Each employee attending training can be required to complete a Pre and Post Learning Evaluation form. A dynamic action can be included in the system which automatically includes the creation of a date for completion of a Pre Learning and Post Learning form when the training course is booked. The task would then prompt the Line Manager that the completion of the form is due.
The design of the form will be left to local implementation but must include the following:
    Pre Learning
u2022     To confirm that proposed learning has been discussed and is linked to personal and business objectives.
    Post Learning
u2022     Review that the learning objectives have been met.
u2022     Actions to implement learning in the workplace
u2022     Further review of how learning has impacted business at individual and team level

    Hello Prasad,
'Protected' means,  that the flag 'input' for the pushbutton of the tabstrip is set to 0. For a normal pushbutton this is allowed but not for a pushbutton which is the title of a tabstrip.
    Hoping this clarify.
    Kind regards,
    Graziela
