Forms--Reader users unable to fill in "enabled" form.

I created and enabled several PDF fill-in forms in Acrobat X. Just recently associates are telling me that they're getting the following error message:
"This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
This has never been an issue previously. Does anyone have an explanation why this is happening now and how to fix it? Thanks!

It can be difficult to nail down a specific cause for this. When a document is Reader-enabled, it is signed with a digital signature that is used to detect if any changes have been made that are not allowed. So if a document changes in a way that's not allowed, it will fail validation and Acrobat/Reader won't allow any other changes and yo get the message you see. You will also get that message if the system clock of the user's computer is incorrect and it's set to a time before the time that the document was enabled.
Documents can get changed for a number of reasons, including when transmitted via email or FTP, or when there's a problem with the file (e.g., fonts) and Acrobat/Reader attempts to correct it. Without seeing a before and after file and doing a detailed analysis, it's impossible be more specific. You might want to see if re-sending the original and having them use it makes any difference.

  • Adobe Reader X Crashes after filling a specific form field

I've recently upgraded to Adobe Reader X on some of our systems.  Now I have a user unable to fill out a form without reader crashing.  I've duplicated the issue on my PC, and confirmed that the form is functional with Reader 9.4.1 running on another system.
The pdf we're having issues with is here:
    http://www.ime.state.ia.us/docs/CrossOverProfessional.pdf
Usersa re able to fill out everything up to the field #21, titled "Billed Amount".  When a dollar amount is entered in this field, adobe reader crashes.  If I skip this field, reader also crashes when a dollar amount is entered in field #22, Allowed amount.  All other fields on the page can be filled out without issue.
This document does seem to do some data verification as you leave a field, checking to confirm the data entered is the right number of digits, alpha or numeric, dates in the correct format, etc.  I suspect whatever type of checks it's trying to do on these two dollar amount fields must be causing the error.
Is this a bug in how Reader X handles forms created in previous versions of acrobat?  Short of asking for the form to be updated, is there anything I can do to make this work with Reader X, or do I need to roll back to version 9 for now?
    Thanks!

Thanks.  I've posted there as well.  Anyone know if there's a workaround to keep reader from crashing with this form, or is my only option to roll back the servers until the creator of the form updates it?
(I have notified their webmaster of the issue, but who knows how long it will take the state to update the form.)

  • Allow Mac Adobe Reader user to save filled-out form

I have created an interactive PDF form for a client's website. Her patients are able to fill out the form and submit it to her. She is able to receive the form, but cannot save it to her Mac using Adobe Reader for the Mac. She says it goes blank when she tries to save it.
I created the form in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2. I double-checked in Acrobat 9 Pro, Extend Features in Adobe Reader, and it says "This document already has enabled usage rights in Adobe Reader".
Does my client need to have Acrobat in order to save the filled-out forms?
I will attach a test copy of the form.
    Thank you very much,
    Heather

  • Filling out enabled forms in Reader 10 vs Reader 11

Reader 10 requires you to "sign" in order to save the form but Reader 11 does not.
The message (in purple banner) in 10 is:
Click 'sign' to fill out and sign the form. When you are done, you can save a copy by clicking 'Done Signing'
The message in Reader 11 is
Please fill out the following form. You can save data typed into this form.
I have both versions so I saved in v10 after "signing" which not a requirement of the form I built.
Reopening in 10 does not allow me to enter any more data . Message in purple banner is gone.
This is a problem as the form is 14 pages long and most folks do not have all their answers together at one sitting.
Reader 11 allows me to partially complete, save, close, reopen and continue filling out the form.
Is this really the way these versions work?

Why do you start a new topic with the same issue as http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1128302 ?

  • New Safari User-former PC user-Slow Page Fills

safari page fills seem slow even with cable modem hard connected. Any way to "tweak" performance or check for problems? My apologies but as a former PC user, there was usually tweaking to do....

    1. Yes it is helpful, but I would limit the choice to the latest version supported by Apple, because it's being tested with their apps. You can download them running "Software Update" from the Apple menu. If it doesn't propose any Java update, you are already running the latest one
    2. I am not aware of any. Other people may. I know of some applications that supposedly make downloads faster, but they often cause problems with Safari.
Did you try my previous suggestion to run Firefox or Opera or Camino, just to have a comparison?

  • I want to let Reader users add a photo to a form created in Acrobat 9.

I have a form created in Acrobat 9. I want to allow Acrobat Reader 11 users to add a photo. Can I bring the form into Live Cycle Designer to do so, or will that cause conflicts with the Acrobat form?

In that case you can't do it with an Acrobat form. Moving to an LCD form is not a mere technicality. The two technologies are very different from one another and are not compatible with one another. You should think and test it carefully before making such a move, and make sure to keep backups of your Acrobat forms.

  • Unable to fill in fillable form Adobe Reader XI

We are migrating users in our Virtual Environment (Citrix Xendesktop) from Windows XP to Windows 7. We have a form that our HR department has been using with no issues on the XP Citrix Image but after being converted to Windows 7 the form will not allow you to fill it in. It Displays the purple bar at the top and the highlight fields is selected but when you click on one of the fields it does not allow you to type anything.
I have turned off Protected Mode since that is something I saw  in another post.

What Reader version are you using?  If less than 11.0.06, update to this version.

  • Unable to fill in PDF form

I am downloading a PDF form which must be filled in and printed but it doesn't work on all computers. I am using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and Windows XP. On some computers this works fine and on others the text boxes are highlighted but don't allow information to be typed in. Does anyone have an idea on why it works on some computers and not on others and how I can fix this issue?

If you want to fill your forms online you should make them "fillable" first. Usually it means that you need to download a particular software. But there is a way to avoid it. I use pdffiller.com to fill my forms online. It`s much faster and easier.

  • IPhone users unable to view PDF fillable form data?

I've created a form that my staff use to send quotes to our customers.
The form is sent via email using the submit a form button as 'PDF The complete document'.
I spent several days testing the form to ensure that everything worked correctly and as far as I could tell everything seemed fine.
Unfortuntately, several of our customers who own iPhones have informed us that the form arrives blank. None of the fields are showing any data or information that my staff filled in.
I've read several posts online and they all suggest this is to do with the version of Adobe that is pre-installed on iOS devices. If Adobe Reader is downloaded on the iPhone it should read the form properly.
Is there any way around this? Ideally I don't want my customers to have to download something before they can read our quote.
Also several of the text fields have javascript attached to them which I would like to keep, such as the 'Link' text field (it has a hyperlink javascript attached). I considered sending the quotes as a .jpg file instead but this would mean losing these features which took so long to build into the quote.
I've attached a sample version of my form in case it helps.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sabri

I'd suggested flattening the form fields, which converts them to regular page contents. There won't be any interactive fields after you do this though. It is possible to flattten just certain fields so that your script would still work if the form is viewed in a compatible PDF viewer, but this would require a custom script.
Here's a link to a free JavaScript-based tool that you can use to flatten the fields: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/
It could be customized to exclude certain fields.

  • Why can't adobe reader users open a link within a form?

When form is opened using Adobe Reader, links do not work.  However, if opened using Acrobat XI Pro, the links work fine.
This problem has been going on for a few months now.  I'm not sure if there was an update to something or if this is just a bug that needs fixed.
If anyone has a solution, please advise.
    Thank you,

    Moving to Reader forums.

  • How do I save IRS pdf forms so that I can fill in and save the data

when I downlaod a US government IRS form I am unable to fill in the form, save the data and print, I have tried saving as a pdf from the print menu and using the tools menu none of which works

I know there is an app called PDFPen that is supposed to fill in PDF forms.  PDFPen is available in the App Store, but it is not free.
I have no financial interest in PDFPen.  I also don't know if there is some cheaper way to fill in the forms.

  • Can a form be filled/saved by multiple Reader users?

I've created a fillable form using Acrobat 9 and enabled Form fill in and save in Adobe Reader. Reader User 1 fills in the form partially, saves and forwards to Reader User 2 to complete. Reader User 2 then cannot save the form with the form data. Is this expected behavior?

First user confirmed she is using Reader X. I'm not sure about second user. It's not really appropriate for me to use them too much as troubleshooters, so thats about as much information as I'm comfortable asking for.
Do you know specific instances where this behavior might happen? If there is too much chance of similar behavior going forward, we may have to scrap the whole fillable PDF idea.
    Thanks.

  • Programmatically enable Reader users to save form data.

    Hey.
In Acrobat there is a function that makes you able to allow Reader users to enter data in a form, and save it. Its used by going to advanced > Extend features in Adobe Reader.
The form im using is only a template, and this works for that single form only, and since the form im using is only a template the extended features i activate in this way doens't work with the newly created ones created of the template.
I'll explain a bit on what it is that my application is doing.
My application is a webapplication created in .NET 2003 using vb.net and asp.net. The user will on one page fill in a formfield, that will be send to the template once a button is pressed. The form will then load up, with the data posted. Already here i get the error "You cannot save data typed in this form". This error doesnt show up on my developing machine, since i have Acrobat installed, but the others at the office hasn't got it, and they get the error. I can imagine that very few of our customers have Acrobat, so its vital that this will function properly.
Anyway, as the error is shown, i cant type in anything in the form, making it really useless. It has been tested on more than 1 system.
My question is; Can i some how set this properly programmatically in some way?
When i am creating the forms programmatically i'm using ADCpdf, and i've tried with encryption.canFillForms = true, but that didnt work either.
    OS: XP pro
Tools: VS .NET 2003, Abobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
    Any questions? Please ask.
    //Simon

    Simon,
LiveCycle Designer and LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES are different products. Reader Extensions ES can reader extend AcroForms, not just XFA forms (XFA forms are the type created with LiveCycle Designer).
LiveCycle is a suite of many products, not just a single product.
    > and they say that they believe that the form is saved in a "different" format.
Yes. LiveCycle Designer creates XFA forms and Acrobat creates AcroForms. They are indeed a very different format.
    > I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro, but the function is only active in the template, not the form created by the template.
This is correct. Anytime you save changes to a form, the reader extensions are removed and need to be re-enabled. This is by design.
    Geo,
He was looking for a way to enable rights programmatically.
