Forms Runtime Hangs

We have recently upgrades some of our client workstations to Forms&Reports 6i and are having a problem on a few of the client workstations since the upgrade. When the user runs our client application the Forms Runtime window pops up and just hangs, then the workstation locks up and we have to force a reboot, can not even kill using task manager. Even after the reboot the same problem occurs and I have to reinstall patch 12 to fix but this fix is only temporary as the problem again comes back after a while. To give a brief back ground the clients are running NT4 Wrkstn SP6a, Oracle Forms & Reports Runtime 6i patch 12, connecting to a 9i DB. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry, should have been more specific. We are running client\server not web. Before the upgrade we were running Forms&Reports 4.5 and everything was stable. The funny thing is that we have upgraded 50 client workstations and only (2) are experiencing this problem. I have tried completely removing the Oracle software and reinstalling on both workstations but this has not helped.

  • Forms & Reports Runtime 6i with XP with 8.1.7 Middleware, Forms install hangs.

    Here it goes!
    I work at a large corporation and we have random installer problems with Forms Runtime and Reports Runtime. We have an image that includes Oracle 8.1.7 TCP/IP and ODBC middleware installed on XP under an Active Directory environment. Our problem is, and it became wierd as the installs went on through the last few days... We started out by installing Forms Runtime and all the support files that are, by default, included, then exit the installer, then start an install of Reports Runtime, which worked fine, all was good and the software developed for us worked great. Did I mention we're deploying XP machines at 1.6 GHZ P4's? The next thing you know it, We could only install Forms Runtime but not Reports Runtime! The installer raises an error suggesting the orainst.exe failed.
    After some quik research that seemed to solve it, we found that the PATH in the XP registry was altered from EXPANDED_REG_SZ to REG_SZ. We would change it back to EXPANDED_REG_SZ, reboot, and then continue on.... Everything seemed to be solved.
    BUT THEN TODAY we cannot even do that. We get as far as installing the Forms Runtime and now 99% of the time we cannot install the Reports Runtime without raising the error of ORAINST.EXE.
    Once I changed only 1 entry in the registry called NLS_LANG to NA as type REG_SZ and it installed... I cannot repeat the problem, I tried.
    Is this a Rights problem? That's basically what I have boiled it down to. We are changing from an NT server environment to Active Directory and might be experiencing problems relating to rights.
    All I can say, is this is the strangest thing I've seen in my 20 years in IT! Nothing makes sense. I did find a couple clues such as using 256 color mode, DEFAULT_HOME should be the name, bvut everything was flawless for about 3 days and 25 installs... Things got worse as the days went by. HELP!!!

    Apparently this isn't a major concern with Oracle or the user community, as I'm still awaiting a solution to a similar problem, that is, in ability to install Developer and Designer 2000 with 9i already loaded on XP. Good luck.

  • Forms runtime just hangs on startup

    When I try to run any form, a blank "Oracle Developer Forms Runtime" window comes up and then nothing else happens. The same thing happens consistently if I try to run from a server with JInitiator 1.3.1.13 (or apparently any server) or with local OC4J instance using JInitiator 1.3.1.9. Other users can run the same forms from the same server(s). The problem started suddenly with no system updates that I know of between working and not working states. OS and browser: XP And Explorer with SP2 (but Forms behaves the same way if I try Netscape 7). Any Ideas...?

    Forms Applet version is : 9.0.4.0

    What happens if you run
    http://<server name removed>:7777/forms90/f90servlet
    Does the test form show?It behaves in exactly the same way: no form shown and Java Console doesn't show anything past that "Forms Applet version". I know that I haven't changed anything in my local Forms Developer/OC4J environment since it was working. I tried removing JInitiator(s) and having them reinstall automatically by trying to run a form and the download and installation worked flawlessly but it didn't help with the problem. I suspect that something in my Windows system is blocking JInitiator but what could it be?

  • Forms gets hang after 15 mins in 11.5.10.2

    Hi,
    I have cloned an instance from production. Now my forms in production are getting hanged after 15 mins but the development instance is running fine. The EBS version is 11.5.10.2. Linux RedHat 4.0. Jserv 1.1.
    Everytime this is happening at 15-20 mins interval. I have seen the log files in iAS_HOME/Apache but they are clean.
    Can anyone plz help on this.
    Thanks.
    Neeraj.

    Rapid Clone does not modify the source system. adpreclone.pl prepares the source system to be cloned by collecting information about the database and creating generic templates of files containing source specific hardcoded values.
    I suggest you use Forms Runtime Diagnostics (FRD) to debug the issue, for more details on how to use it please check Note: 150168.1 - Obtaining Forms Runtime Diagnostics (FRD) In Oracle Applications 11i

  • Form Runtime

    Hi,
    What is the best way to connect to the database schema automatively when the form is in run time.
    Example:
    When you close the form builder or run the form in form runtime, it always prompts you for the database schema. What is the best way to solve this problem, because my form will deploy into the web server, I don't want the user to enter the database schema. Please advise.
    Thank you very much

  • HST6i, Client/Server env. Forms runtime crash!

    We successfuly instaled HSD6i on Forms Server. But we also need to run forms on client/server environment.
    When I start HSU or generated app. in Forms Runtime (ver 6.0.8.11.3) and do nothing other than navigate from menu to form 'Users' for example, form opens but the very
    next time whole runtime environment dissaper (crash with no error message).
    How can I manage this problem?
    null

    I changed all 'automatic' to <unspecified> but my forms are still crashing with access violation at uiw60.dll. It seems that only forms with item groups though. I also found another posting here by Ivica Coric about "Problem with Item Groups" where people mentioned forms with item groups would crash. It seems that this is my problem. But changing 'automatic' to something else still doesn't solve my problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Uros,
    I have discovered what makes this happen. As you have read in the the install guide, you need to change a number of properties in the object library. Specifically, the color "Automatic", which is very useful in webforms, is problematic on client/server.
    Because most items in the generated forms subclass from the object library, you would ideally only need to recreate the fmx files and be rid of the "Automatics".
    Unfortunately, there's one place where the generator uses the object library properties, but DOES NOT SUBCLASS BUT COPIES these properties into the generated forms. This happens with boilerplate graphics that result from item group decorations, and then only when the item group decoration has a prompt! Here the color of the CG$TITLE visual attribute is used, but not subclassed. This also explains why you solved it by regenerating the problematic forms.
    To solve this for the applications you cannot regenerate, open the fmbs, navigate to the Canvas, and then to the Graphics. You'll find the culprit there soon enough.
    Kind regards,

  • Forms runtime as cartridge?

    In a document from July 1997 from Oracle called "Developer/2000
    and the NCA: An Architectural Overview", authors Mark Doran et
    al, the future direction of the Forms Runtime was stated to be:
    In a release after 2.0, the Forms Runtime will be implemented
    as a cartridge. The Web Application Server will invoke a
    Forms cartrige directly to run a Forms application, elim-
    inating the ned for a separate Listener process and Runtime
    processes. In this configuration, the Forms cartridge will
    be able to exploit all of the functionality of the Web
    Application Server, including Inter-Cartridge Exchange
    (ICX) and dynamic load balancing.
    Initially, each instance of the Cartridge will handle a single
    connected user, just as the Forms Runtime does today, but
    in later versions a single cartridge will be able to serve
    multiple simultaneous users for even greater scalability.
    I have two questions:
    a) is this still the intended direction of the Forms Runtime?
    (I couldn't find this repeated in later documents)
    b) if so, which release will/does have this feature?
    I have scoured all the promotional documentation for OAS 4.0
    and Developer 6.0 looking for an answer, but could not find
    any.
    The reasons I care are that 1) our client will continue to grow,
    and the scalability improvement is interesting, and 2) if
    you can use Inter-Cartridge Exchange to (I think) access
    real CORBA objects which live in a custom-built application
    cartridge that lives in OAS 4.0. From Forms, you have to
    use Forms-specific syntax to access functions, and you
    can't access objects directly.

    I agree.
    I've tested my application using Dev2.1 to find out that each
    user was going to take up around 10M.
    We have a user base of about 300, but usually theres only about
    80 users on during our busiest time. 80Users * 10M = 800M.
    Thats not even counting the memeory needed for the reports
    server.
    But to be fair OAS load balancing did cut down on apps which
    were inactive.
    But this still leaves me with the prospect of at least a 512M
    apps server. Which might be incredibly slow during peak times.
    So I started looking towards the OAS4.0 release which had this
    promised shared cartridge architecture. But it looks as if we
    are going to have to upgrade to Dev6.0 to use this cartridge
    architecture.
    What happened to Dev2.1?
    I received the Dev6.0 beta CD, and was imressed by OAS4.0.
    Should we just skip the Dev2.1 / OAS3.0 or are there going to be
    further releases of Dev2.x supporting OAS4.0?

  • Forms runtime info. - URGENT-

    I have an application developed in Forms 6. I have the following questions.
    1. Should the end user purchase forms 6 to run the application?
    2. If no, can he get forms runtime along with Oracle 9i, which can run the application?
    3. Is Forms 6 runtime alone available to be purchased?
    Please help me out at the earliest.
    Thanks
    Raghu

    If we are talking about a client server application then the Forms runtime is for free and you don't need to buy it for the customer. The latest patches will make your forms work with an Oracle9i database. There is no separate packaging of the runtime, you can install just the runtime if you choose the custom install option from the CD that includes Forms.

  • Forms 10g hangs while running a procedure which has got lot of loops

    Hi,
    When executing a procedure in Forms 10g which fetches millions of records, application getting stuck.
    What parameter is required to be changed in forms configuration?
    Can any1 help me out???
    Thanks in advance,
    Natz.

    Particularly this passage:
    MaxBlockTime
    MaxBlockTime is the time in mili seconds to wait when reading data from the
    Runform process.
    e.g. a long query, lots of complex processing
    (default = 1000 milli sec)
    /j2EE/OC4J_BI_Forms/application/forms90app/forms90web/WEB-INF/web.xml
    or
    /j2EE/OC4J_BI_Forms/application/formsapp/formsweb/WEB-INF/web.xml
    Example
    =======
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>l90servlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>maxBlockTime</param-name>
    <param-value>1800000</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </servlet>
    or
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>lservlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>maxBlockTime</param-name>
    <param-value>1800000</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </servlet>
    What happens?
    =============
    For long requests (like querying a big table), the Listener
    Servlet waits for a default time of 1 second for the Forms
    runtime process to complete the request
    If the request is not completed then the Listener Servlet sends a busy
    response to the client asking the client to retry.
    The client sends a retry zero content length request to check if the query is
    complete.
    This default time of 1 second can be configured using Listener Servlet
    parameter called maxBlockTime

  • ISR Form is hanging after converting to ZCI

    Hi experts,
    We are on EP7 ECC 6.0 SP9. We have recently converted few ISR forms (SAP delivered forms for PCR) to ZCI. The form is hanging when clicked on 'Review Form' . Earlier before changing the forms to ZCI at least we used to go to the next screen when clicked on 'Review Form' but now the form is just hanging.
    Did anyone come across this issue?
    Can you please let me know what needs to be done?
    Thanks

    Hi Anto,
    I have already installed ACF on my pc but still the Adobe form is hanging. I even changed installed new version of Adobe reader 8.0 (earlier it was 7.0.9) but same result.
    We are currently on EP7 ECC 6.0 SP9. I have adobe reader 7.0.9 version.
    When I revert back the SAP Standard SAP form to 'unknown layout' I could at least go to the next step but when I covert to ZCI, I am facing this problem. Right now I really don't understand the reason .. I am stuck with this.
    Do you have any ideas?

  • Oracle Form Runtime (bug)

    Hi guys..
    I have created an application composed by 5/6 forms. I created a .BAT file that launches the main MENU form, that has all the related buttons wich call the other modules of the application. NOw the issue is the seguent, if I install the forms on the local machine I have no problems at all. But instead, if I install them on a server pc, I begin having very strange problems. For example, my main MENU forms gets launched without any issues, I press the first button on the main menu and my application starts, if I exit and then press another button, it literally EXPLODES. The forms runtime crashes and creates a DUMP file. Now the strange thing is that it doens't do it on every PC.
    Do you guys know anything about this ?

    Could it be that you have lot of other programs running in the server so there is not enough memory to run forms.
    Just curious, why are you using a combination of version 5 and version 6 forms?
    From your main form, are you calling both version 5 and version 6 fmx files?
