Forms6i and 9iAS

I would appreciate if anyone can share their experiences with running web enabled forms. We are considering developing mission critical application for 70 users in Oracle Forms, but we want to make sure this is the way to go.
If you could tell me your experience with Forms performance, CPU load, what type of network bandwith is required. Is it stable? Any other thoughts?
Thank you

Hi,
That is really great!! We are now, in the process of migrating our earlier Forms3.0 based applications to 6i/9iAS. Thank you for giving this encouraging news, boosting our confidence. Though, we are still not that clear about the changes in the hardware configurations that our clients have to make, that Oracle paper about 6iscalability has really given more light to it. Could you please give additional suggestions..
Again, thank you..
Regards,
Ranjith..

  • Diff between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

Can any one brief in detail the difference between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

    Hi,
Your question is the answer. Oracle9i Database manages all your eBusiness data and Oracle9iAS runs all your eBusiness
applications. In a 3 tier architecture, Oracle9i Database fits in the Database tier where as Oracle9iAS fits in the middle
tier. Oracle9iAS provides an infrastructure to run different types of applications(J2EE thru OC4J, Forms applns, Portal
    based applns, Wireless applns etc..)
    Cheers !

  • 9i DB and 9iAS

Need help in setting up 9iDB and 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 on the same box
    running solaris 8.
My question is, can I run these two on the same box, if so how?

yes, you need to install infra and apps instance using same user account
also, install infra and instance on the other servers, as it needs lot of memory.
you may end up hanging your system

  • Installing Oracle 9i Database and 9iAS on the same machine

I have read conflicting comments about this. Will Oracle 9i and 9iAS work if installed on the same server ?
I have seen a note before that the ORACLE_HOME will conflict if done.
However, for 8i it has been stated "the OAS does not seem to conflict with the Oracle 8i database, so select the default ORACLE_HOME to install".
Can you give me the diffinitive answer for 9i for this.
    Many Thanks

I performed the installation and used a different Oracle_Home and had no issues. Now configuring Portal was another story...

  • Bilingual support for forms6i and Reports6i

    Hi
We are planning to use Oracle Developer 6i with forms6i and reports6i for a Client server solution and deploy only the runtime on Sun Solaris
Question: The users need multi-language support for the form labels and report headings etc..
However, the data in the database will be stored only in English and will be displayed only in English.
Please let me know if this is possible in Oracle Reports 6i and Forms6i (and how do we implement this)
    Thanks
    G.

    null null ;-),
Yes you can do this. The way you do this is to use Oracle Translation Builder to translate the contained strings in Reports and Forms. After translation, export the strings back into the Forms and reports modules.
In Reports you use the rdf format to store multiple language strings and in Forms it's fmb. To get language specific application modules you need to compile the files with the NLS_LANG variable set to the traget language.
You can compile Forms applications using the Forms Developer interface or the ifcomp60 compiler. Similar for Reports, except that the compiler name is rwconverter. After this all you need to do is to start the applications in the language environment (NLS_LANG) set to target language. On the Web this is the default.env file in Forms, or the registry (or Unix environment) of the Reports Server. In client-server NLS is defined in the registry on Windows or in the environment on Unix.
    Hope this helps.

  • Comparison between Forms6i and Forms9i

We have some client/server-based applications built in Forms6i and are considering to convert/rebuild them into Forms9i or JDeveloper as web-based applications. Has anyone done any comparison between Forms6i and Forms9i/JDeveloper? Or, can you point me to such documentation if existed?
    Thanks.

For comparison between forms 6i and Oracle9i Forms check out the new features paper on:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms
Comparison to JDeveloper? How about the fact that you develop with Java language in JDeveloper and with PL/SQL in Forms.
I would suggest that first you try to run your application on the Web using forms 6i. This should be a very simple test to do. See how you like it and only then ask yourself if you really need to go to JDeveloper.

  • Forms6i and Report9

    Hello everybody!
I am having some problems with the above mentioned programs: Forms6i and Report9.
    1)
The problem with Forms6i occurs both with Windos XP and with Vista.
Installation is successful and I can run Forms as well as create and open the forms. The problem occurs when I try to connect to the database. The program crushes down after I insert account details and database.
I am using the latest version downloadable from oracle web site. I had no problem with a previous version.
    Can anyone help me?
    2)
The problem with Report9 occurs when I try to open the last created report in web mode. The report preview works but as I go in web mode I’m told to configure my browser, or to choose between some browsers… In any case, whatever I do, nothing happens. I succeeded opening Firefox but there was no report.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

    I'am afraid
Ciao spero che qualcun'altro esaudisca la tua richiesta.
    hope helps
    (but it's for patch 14 Release 6.0.8.23:

  • Difference between forms6i and 10g

Is there a big Difference between forms6i and 10g? Can someone with 6i experience use forms 10g without problems?
    Thanks

In our company Forms applications are still developed in 6i C/S, but they run without modifications, just recompilation, on
    - 6i C/S (obviously :-))
    - 6i Forms server
    - 9i Forms services 9.0.2
    - 10g Forms services 9.0.4
    - 10g Forms services 10.1.2
We have customers with all these architectures on Linux and Windows, and they have DBs from 7.3.4 to 10g.

  • Linux and 9iAS Installation -  Some Effort Finding The Easy Way

I'm reading forums and documention for days. During the past 12 months, I spent more time as administrator of 'my versions' of Portal and 9iAS then in development process. Now, I'm ready to start clean instalation on Linux, reather then another upgrade.
I found that 9iAS 1.0.2.2.x is certified with 9i Database, but... Always there is some but...
Also, I expirienced problems with diferent distributions / versions of Linux.
    Try start with hypotesis that:
    1. I have not any prefered LINUX distribution or version.
    2. Database 8.1.7.1 or 9i - no prejudice.
What combination can satisfy one simple criteria - clean and quick instalation - no tricks, no cheating. Just simple StepByStep guide.
    Is RedHat7.2 + 9i + 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 OK.?
    Or RedHat6.2 + 8.1.7 + 1.0.2.2.1 ?
    Or some Suse + ... ?
    ... anything that works ;)
    ciao
    ''''Srdjan

OK. We made some progress :)
It looks like Suse is more Oracle friendly than RH :)
    Damir, thanks for useful link.
In this moment, we can assume that:
    - >>Suse7.2 + 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1<< will work fine.
    - >>9i database + RH or Suse 7.x<<, too (according to link provided by Damir, there is acceptable procedure to get these things together).
    BUT, what is with combination
9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 + 9i Database (9.0.1)<<?Is there real compatibility within these two products, or there is just casual sharing of small italic i and some numbers in their names :)
    ciao

  • Which flavour of Linux to choose for database 9i Rel2 and 9iAS rel2

I am getting the Oracle 9i rel2 and 9iAS rel2 from OTN (OTN Tracks) for Linux.
I wih to know what flavour of Linux to choose (Red Hat or Suse).
Again this is only for my own PC.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,

Thank you! Do I need to apply any special O/S patches first?

  • Forms6i on 9iAS R2 ?

    Hello,
Note on Metalink says that Forms6i works only on 9iAS Rel 1.
Somebody knows if Forms6i could run on 9iAS rel 2 ?
If not, where could 9iAS rel 1 be found on OTN ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Francois

    Francois,
no, its not supported, though technically one could get it to work through manual configuration. If there is a need to run Forms 6i in a Oracle 9i R2 environment the recommendation is to configure Oracle 9i R2 to redirect the Forms 6i request to the Forms Services in Oracle 9i R1.
I checked OTN and the sofware is not available in the Application Server download section. So my bet would be Metalink.

  • HTTP Server - Win2K and Oracle 8.1.7 and 9iAS

I have a problem with the APACHE WEB SERVER on Windows 2000 Server. It does not come up - I get "error 1067 - process terminated unexpectedly". I have installed Oracle 8.1.7 and installed 9iAS with no errors, using the 101 Web Apps book. However, I get the above error. Also, when I go to a dos prompt, I got "Can't locate Cwd.pm in @INC (@INC contains: .) at (eval 1) line 1."
Many reboots and reinstalls later with no errors and perusing this site, I have had no luck - I am an expert now in installing and wiping clean of Oracle... I would appreciate if any of you can assist me over the edge (I mean, over the top)...
    null

So, here we are. I have Oracle 8.1.7 on the Windows 2000 server. I have tried everything, including dropping everything twice, trying to install 9iAS portal - then installing Portal 3.0.8. Even just trying to use the HTTP server from 8i. I continue to get the Error 1067 from the Win2K services trying to start the HTTP server. When I go to the prompt and run apache.exe from the apache\apache directory, I get a "Can't locate Cwd.pm in @INC (@INC contains: .) at (eval 1) line 1." message.
    HELP!!

  • Function-Based Indexes for 8.1.6 SE and 9iAS

I have installed the 9iAS Portal into a 8.1.6 SE database, and I cannot get the Function-Based Index feature to turn on. I have set QUERY_REWRITE_INTEGRITY=trusted, QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED=true and COMPATIBLE="8.1.0.0.0". The feature will still not enable.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there anything else I can do to turn this feature on.
    2. If not, do I have to upgrade to 8.1.7 or to 8.1.* Enterprise Edition to make use of this feature.

Could you give the statement for the index you have used, the query you try to do and a description of columns and datatypes of the table? How do you know/check that is doesn't work? Execution plan, errors?...
