Forms6i and Oracle9i

Hi, every body
Is it possible run forms6i applications against Oracle9i Database? Should I do any changes in my forms?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
yes, you can do this, but it requires at least Patch 10.

  • Comparison between Forms6i and Forms9i

    We have some client/server-based applications built in Forms6i and are considering to convert/rebuild them into Forms9i or JDeveloper as web-based applications. Has anyone done any comparison between Forms6i and Forms9i/JDeveloper? Or, can you point me to such documentation if existed?
    Thanks.

    For comparison between forms 6i and Oracle9i Forms check out the new features paper on:

    Comparison to JDeveloper? How about the fact that you develop with Java language in JDeveloper and with PL/SQL in Forms.
    I would suggest that first you try to run your application on the Web using forms 6i. This should be a very simple test to do. See how you like it and only then ask yourself if you really need to go to JDeveloper.

  • Difference between Oracle9i Standard Edition and Oracle9i Enterprise Editio

    Hi,
    Can someone please tell me what is the difference between the Oracle9i Standard Edition and Oracle9i Enterprise Edition.
    Regards

    First, if you want Enterprise Options like Partitioning, you need to have Oracle Enterprise Editions. Note that partitioning is not included in an Enterprise Edition license ! You have to buy the option separatly (+25% of price).
    A good reason to use EE is the ability to scale to more than 4 cpus...
    Note that on some systems like Solaris 10, you can use SE with a multi-cpu machine, you just need to create projects and allocate at most 4 cpus for the oracle user.
    Check with your sales representative for some coefficients per core depending on your architecture .

  • Bilingual support for forms6i and Reports6i

    Hi
    We are planning to use Oracle Developer 6i with forms6i and reports6i for a Client server solution and deploy only the runtime on Sun Solaris
    Question: The users need multi-language support for the form labels and report headings etc..
    However,the data in the database will be stored only in English and will be displayed only in English.
    Please let me know if this is possible in Oracle Reports 6i and Forms6i (and how do we implement this)
    Thanks
    G.

    null null ;-),
    Yes you can do this. The way you do this is to use Oracle Translation Builder to translate the contained strings in Reports and Forms. After translation, export the strings back into the Forms and reports modules.
    In Reports you use the rdf format to store multiple language strings and in Forms it's fmb. To get language specific application modules you need to compile the files with the NLS_LANG variable set to the traget language.
    You can compile Forms applications using the Forms Developer interface or the ifcomp60 compiler. Similar for Reports, except that the compiler name is rwconverter. After this all you need to do is to start the applications in the language environment (NLS_LANG) set to target language. On the Web this is the default.env file in Forms, or the registry (or Unix environment) of the Reports Server. In client-server NLS is defined in the registry on Windows or in the environment on Unix.
    Hope this helps.

  • Getting started with iSQLPlus on Windows 2000 and Oracle9i?

    When I type http://localhost/isqlplus
    I get an error message: the web page you requested is not
    available offline.
    I am able to run OEM Console via web:
    http://localhost:3339/
    So, HTTP Server is running. and Oracle9i is running.
    This is fresh install out of the box (9.0.1.1). Any clues on
    what additional steps need to be set up? (doc says it should run
    as is)

    Can you see the default HTTP Server page when you enter
    http://localhost/ ?
    Is your browser set up to ignore your proxy server for
    localhost?
    Can you get to iSQL*Plus if you use your ip address instead of
    using 'localhost'?
    Yes, iSQL*Plus is installed and ready to use by default, or it
    should be. If none of the above help, you should probably give
    Oracle Support a call and they can work through the problem with
    you. If you don't have a Support contract, try posting back here
    with as much detail as you can give us, ie, version of your o/s,
    which install of Oracle9i, brower versions you've tried, etc.

    I was looking for Oracle 9i Thin driver, but could not find any!

    and thanks again for your help.

    I suggest you use the Oracle thin driver from Oracle to connect to the
    9i
    database.
    when you download and install the 9i thin driver, the connection pool
    can be
    configured as,
    weblogic.jdbc.connectionPool.O9iPool=\
    url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@9imachinename:port:SID,\
    driver=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver,\
    loginDelaySecs=1,\

    capacityIncrement=2,\
    allowShrinking=true,\
    shrinkPeriodMins=15,\
    refreshMinutes=12,\
    props=user=o9iusr;password=o9ipwd;weblogic.oci.min_bind_size=660
    You cannot use two different OCI drivers at the same time to create
    Connection pools in a single server.

    Hi,
    I dont know exactly what driver we use, but I know that the same driver
    is
    in
    use for bothe 8i and 9i. And I know that the driver is old, (from 2000).
    The behavior is that connection duo the 9i are rollin back sometimes,
    about
    30%
    of all transactions are rolling back.
    Thats why I ve been told to use newer drivers (9i drivers).
    So, yes, I see exceptions, roll back exceptions of the transactionsthat
    are
    trying
    to connect to the database pool.
    But I wonder how to do that, and how can I see exactly what driver
    we
    use
    now?

    you see any exceptions/hangs ?
    Also ensure that you have testConnsOnReserve=true (on the 9i pool)

  • Forms6i and Report9

    Hello everybody!
    I am having some problems with the above mentioned programs: Forms6i and Report9.
    1)
    The problem with Forms6i occurs both with Windos XP and with Vista.
    Installation is successful and I can run Forms as well as create and open the forms. The problem occurs when I try to connect to the database. The program crushes down after I insert account details and database.
    I am using the latest version downloadable from oracle web site. I had no problem with a previous version.
    Can anyone help me?
    2)
    The problem with Report9 occurs when I try to open the last created report in web mode. The report preview works but as I go in web mode I’m told to configure my browser, or to choose between some browsers… In any case, whatever I do, nothing happens. I succeeded opening Firefox but there was no report.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

    I using Tuxedo8.0 ..and I need to use XA with both Oracle8 and Oracle9...

    with Oracle9.
    Then I would like to know Can I use XA across Oracle8 and Oracle9...
    What is RM file for Oracle9?
    Regards,
    Yos

    Hello Yos,
    XA transactions can span multiple RDBMSes... There may be limitations/problems
    as every RDBMS has a different implementation and hence do not work the same way.
    The base rule is: You can definitely have a single XA transaction across Oracle,
    Informix and DB2. So, your scenario of XA transactions across Oracle 8 and 9 databases
    should work..
    For RM file entry, please refer Oracle/Tuxedo documentations. Oracle 8.x RM file
    entry may also work fine with Oracle 9.x. Just give it a try.

  • OC4J and Oracle9i and user defined datatypes over SOAP.

    Does OC4J and Oracle9i, that comes with JDeveloper9i-rc, support user defined datatypes over SOAP?
    If I invoke the EJB over RMI it is working fine.
    But if I try to invoke it over SOAP I get this fault:
    500 Internal Server Error: Servlet error: Error building response envelope: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No Serializer found to serialize a 'mypackage.myObj' using encoding style 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/'.
    I have written the Deployment descripter like this:

    </isd:provider>

    xml2JavaClassName="org.apache.soap.encoding.soapenc.BeanSerializer"/>
    </isd:mappings>
    </isd:service>

    AFAIK this is not possible with the Oracle 8i implementation. This is my main gripe about Oracle's so called objects - you can't define your own constructors, you can't put check constraints on them and you can't use them in triggers.
    In other words you can put any old scheisse in an object and you can't populate them with derived or default values.
    I'm on a 9i New Features course as I type and I'm hoping to hear that Oracle have added some features to objects that will make them worth using.

  • Difference between forms6i and 10g

    Is there a big Difference between forms6i and 10g? Can someone with 6i experience use forms 10g without problems?
    Thanks

    In our company Forms applications are still developed in 6i C/S, but they run without modifications, just recompilation, on
    - 6i C/S (obviously :-))
    - 6i Forms server
    - 9i Forms services 9.0.2
    - 10g Forms services 9.0.4
    - 10g Forms services 10.1.2
    We have customers with all these architectures on Linux and Windows, and they have DBs from 7.3.4 to 10g.

  • Connecting Oracle7 and Oracle9 simultaneously in perl

    Hi all. sorry for my english. I just started using perl, so I am not very experienced.
    I need to access an Oracle v7.x.x on Linux-box and Oracle v9.2.x on another one in the same script. I know that i need to install DBD-Oracle, but for which database version?
    What environement varibles should be set to access to oracle7 and oracle9?
    Is it possible at all to access two oracle databeses at the same time? Thanks in advance

    You only needed to do this if you wanted to plug in a computer to the ethernet port of the airport express "Bedroom", or to have two differently named Wireless networks.
    WDS retransmits data, and thus in some situations may impact network performance in a negative fashion. The more conventional way I would suggest, assuming you're not using the ethernet port on the "Bedroom" AX, is to create a network with the TV room one, called "House" or something, then configure your laptop and the Bedroom airport express to join the "House" network. You would be able to see both sets of speakers that way, without relying on WDS.
    But in the end, if it works for you, that's all good too

  • Can Forms6i and Forms9i Developer Co-exist on one machine?

    Hi All,
    Can any one tried to install Forms Developer6i and 9i together on same machine(Win2000 professional) working independently. Is there anything I need to change in registry. How does this workout if I have to work on 2 different forms with different versions on same machine. I am working on form6i to 9i upgrade while giving production support to existing forms6i.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ravi Sankar

    What issue are you having? You can install both versions of Forms into separate homes. You then have two versions of your Forms application, in different directories. Then your FORMS60_PATH points to your Forms 6i forms, and your FORMS90_PATH points to your Oracle9i Forms forms. There is no conflict.
