Forms6i performance on Web

Hi,
I just want to know the following:-
1) If forms6i runs on web will it generate the applets on the fly.
2) If so, Is the performanace of the application is satisfactory
We had bad experience of performance issue with last release of OAS 4.0.x with forms5.
thankx.

Hi,
Reports does not only execute the query but spent a fair amount of time for formatting. However, it shouldn't run slow on the Web and i am wondering if this really is a problem with Reports or one with the power of the machine.

  • Performance of web services with XMLBeans on WLS 9

We are planning to use XMLBeans extensively for web services development on WLS. Recently another group within our company did a performance study indicating horrible performance with XMLBeans and WLS 9.2 especially when processing long requests (> 1000 xml elements). This puts in question whether XMLBeans with WLS 9.x is actually the right platform for us to build/host a large number of services.
XMLBeans is a highly regarded XML<->Java binding tool as explained in numerous past articles both on Dev2Dev and other technology websites. We also understand that it is an integral technology used by other BEA products such as WLI and Liquid Data.
We are wondering if BEA has any resources/reports on performance of web services (which uses XMLBeans) on WebLogic. Thanks.

    Hi,
We test several frameworks and find out that usually JAXB 2.0 performs better than XMLBeans, but that is not a strict rule.

  • Query performance for WEBI on top of BEx

    Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to get the time taken by a webi query execution on the BO side and in the BW side? Is this stat stored some where?
Also, what is the best approach to take for comparing performance between the original bex query and the WEBI on top of the Bex?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Poor query performance in WebI on top of BEx queries

    Hello,
We are using Web Inteliigence i BO 3.1 (SP0) to report on BEx queries (BW 7.0).
We experience however that reporting is much quicker for the same set of data when using BEx Analyzer than when using WebI. In BEx it is acceptable, but in WebI it's not.
How can we optimize the performance in this scenario? What tricks are there?
The amount of data is not huge (max 500 000 records in the cube)
    BR,
    Fredrik

    Hi,
Dennis is right. But if you need to upgrade (and you do) than maybe going to the latest SP is better. It is SP4. With SP3 the WebI Option "Query Striping" has been introduced which brings Performance as well.

  • Poor performance with WebI and BW hierarchy drill-down...

    Hi
We are currently implementing a large HR solution with BW as backend
and WebI and Xcelcius as frontend. As part of this we are experiencing
very poor performance when doing drill-down in WebI on a BW hierarchy.
In general we are experiencing ok performance during selection of data
and traditional WebI filtering - however when using the BW hierarchy
for navigation within WebI, response times are significantly increasing.
The general solution setup are as follows:
    1) Business Content version of the personnel administration
infoprovider - 0PA_C01. The Infoprovider contains 30.000 records
    2) Multiprovider to act as semantic Data Mart layer in BW.
    3) Bex Query to act as Data Mart Query and metadata exchange for BOE.
All key figure restrictions and calculations are done in this Data Mart
    Query.
    4) Traditionel BO OLAP universe 1:1 mapped to Bex Data Mart query. No
calculations etc. are done in the universe.
    5) WebI report with limited objects included in the WebI query.
As we are aware that performance is an very subjective issues we have
created several case scenarios with different dataset sizes, various
filter criteria's and modeling techniques in BW.
Furthermore we have tried to apply various traditional BW performance
tuning techniques including aggregates, physical partitioning and pre-
calculation - all without any luck (pre-calculation doesn't seem to
work at all as WebI apparently isn't using the BW OLAP cache).
In general the best result we can get is with a completely stripped WebI report without any variables etc.
and a total dataset of 1000 records transferred to WebI. Even in this scenario we can't get
each navigational step (when using drill-down on Organizational Unit
hierarchy - 0ORGUNIT) to perform faster than minimum 15-20 seconds per.
    navigational step.
That is each navigational step takes 15-20 seconds
with only 1000 records in the WebI cache when using drill-down on org.
    unit hierachy !!.
Running the same Bex query from Bex Analyzer with a full dataset of
30.000 records on lowest level of detail returns a threshold of 1-2
seconds pr. navigational step thus eliminating that this should be a BW
    modeling issue.
As our productive scenario obviously involves a far larger dataset as
well as separate data from CATS and PT infoproviders we are very
worried if we will ever be able to utilize hierarchy drill-down from
    WebI ?.
The question is as such if there are any known performance issues
related to the use of BW hierarchy drill-down from WebI and if so are
there any ways to get around them ?.
As an alternative we are currently considering changing our reporting
strategy by creating several higher aggregated reports to avoid
hierarchy navigation at all. However we still need to support specific
division and their need to navigate the WebI dataset without
limitations which makes this issue critical.
Hope that you are able to help.
    Thanks in advance
    /Frank

Hi Henry, thank you for your suggestions although i´m not agree with you that 20 seconds is pretty good for that navigation step. The same query executed with BEx Analyzer takes only 1-2 seconds to do the drill down.
    Actions
suppress unassigned nodes in RSH1: Magic!! This was the main problem!!
tick use structure elements in RSRT: Done it.
enable query stripping in WebI: Done it.
upgrade your BW to SP09: Has the SP09 some inprovements in relation to this point ?
use more runtime query filters. : Not possible. Very simple query.
    Others:
RSRT combination H-1-3-3-1 (Expand nodes/Permanent Cache BLOB)
Uncheck prelimirary Hierarchy presentation in Query. only selected.
Check "Use query drill" in webi properties.
Sorry for this mixed message but when i was answering i tryied what you suggest in relation with supress unassigned nodes and it works perfectly. This is what is cusing the bottleneck!! incredible...
    Thanks a lot

  • Poor Performance with Webi on top of BW - Large Navigational Attributes

We have recently developed a reporting model based on having a BW cube of approx 20 million records. This has 2 very large line item dimensions (one 14 million records, on 6 million records) that both have navigational attributes stored against them.
We need the design to be like this because the attributes change monthly and we do not wish to do a complete drop and reload of cube data each month (this takes 10-12 hours).
When we build a Universe on top of the cube and try Webi reporting the performance is dreadful - many reports time out completely. This happens whether or not the large line item dimensions are selected in the query. The BW query is very simple just 2 key figures and approx 30 Navigational Attributes as default values. No filters are applied.
For example a query that just contains Calander Year and one key figure either times out after 10 minutes or fails.
Our source of the data is Oracle tables and the same query runs in 2 1/2 minutes and the query runs in RSRT in approx 5 minutes with no problems so it is definately a problem with BOBJ to MDX to BW.
We are on BW7.01 SP5 and XI3.1 SP2. SAP have recommend going to SP3 and using query stripping to help with this but I doubt if this will work.
We have tried building aggregates, splitting into yearly cubes etc but nothing seems to help.
My question is do the large navigational attributes mean Webi simply can't cope with this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Although this did not directly help I've now found a solution.
We had a calculated key figure in the query that doing a count of records on a huge navigational attribute. This was causing all queries to run very slowly (even if the key figure wasn't selected in Webi).
Removing it solved the problem. Will have to find another way to  do the count key figure.
    Thanks

  • Bad performance in web intelligence reports

    Hi,
We use Business Objects with Web Intelligence documents and Crystal Reports.
We are supporting bad performance when we use the reports specilly when we need to change the drill options
Can someone telling me if exists some best practices to improve performance? What features should i look to?

  • Performance of WEB enabling ( Converting to Oracle 8i and Forms 6i)

We are working on a project to convert a forms 4.5 and Oracle 7.3.4 application to a web based app ( Oracle 8i and Forms 6i). I want to know if there will be a performance hit (improve or decrease) as a result of this.
    Please help

Satish - concerned about your statement that you have not used in in production but you think its not the good. If you can quantify your statement I will address is.
As for Bobs points - check out http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?id=836060
    This probably addresses Bobs concerns.
If you are concerned - take a look at the testimonials. Go to otn.oracle.com/products/forms and click on the Testimonials link.
Believe it or not we actually have people who are running FASTER on the Web - How can that be!!! - well the reason is that the have uses on slow links - when running client server there database access is across these links and since they had database intensive application they found it could be slow. On the web the data trasfer between the app server and the database was on a fast link and the client (who are still on the slow link) are getting only screen draw information which is alot less than the database traffic.
    Hope this helps

  • Report 9i performance on Web Application

I've developed a report using Report Builder 9i. The report run smoothly in the builder, but it takes a very very long time to execute when called from web application.
I've tried to execute the report's SQL statement in SQLPlus to see whether there is performance problem , but strangely the SQL executed effectively in SQLPlus.
Can anyone tell me how to improve the report performance on my Web application?

How do you execute the report from the web application?
Are you generating the report output to HTML / HTMLCSS formats? HTMLCSS report output takes longer time to load into browser.
Try to use "Run to web" option in Reports builder and check if it takes more time.
You can also refer to the following document "Tuning Oracle9i Reports" from http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/cb_tuning8.pdf

  • Which gives better performance in webi using display attr or nav attr -

    Hello all,
We are using the Bex query as the datasource for our universes and the end user is using the Web Intelligence as the reporting tool (rich client and infoview) we have employee as one of the infoobject in the cube.
Now employee has a lot of attributes which the user wants to use for reporting (delivered employee infoobject has quite a few attr), we are making some of them as Nav attr like Org unit since they are time dependent and the end user will need to put in the key date to bring the employees from right org unit.
We have enhanced the employee attr to have the all address information of the employee (Z fileds) and we have made those nav attr in RSd1.
So my question is should we make the address Z fields as nav attr in cube as well and use those objects in webi or can we use the objects in webi which fall under employee like details (green icons) rather than separate object.
Please let me know what will keep better performance and what is the best practice.
Thanks you in advance and appreciate everyone's help

    Hi,
    BEx Query Design Recommendations:
"Reduce Usage of Navigational Attributes as much as possible Also, if simply displaying a Characteristicu2019s Attribute, DO NOT use the Navigational Attribute u2013 rather utilize the Characteristic Attribute for display in the report  This avoids unneeded JOINS, and also reduces total number of rows transferred to WebI"

  • Performance of Web Templates Apps that are created in Web App Designer

I have created a Dashboard using Web App Designer in BI7 SPS 10.
The Web Template has 12 queries/DataProviders that are used for 12 charts.  Buttons at the top control the view to show 4 Charts Each.   When these buttons are selected, command sequences are executed that Hide and Show containers (each chart has its own container).
Also, there are 8 Dropdowns which are used to filter all 12 charts.  These Dropdowns are using Posted Values because the requirement is to only show the values that actually exist in the InfoProvider.
When this template is run in Development where the data is minimal, it is taking 17 seconds to load the page.  When running each query individually, it is taking each query between less than 1 second or at most 1.5 seconds.  Also, the queries have been broadcasted to the OLAP Cache.
Other approaches that I have tried but have not changed the performance:
    1.  Created this template with Tabs and each template calls a template which contains 4 of the Charts (I believe this is called the “Template in Template” Approach.
    2.  Created 3 templates  that each contain 4 of the Charts.   The Command Sequence “Change Template" is used to switch to another Template (e.g. from “Monthly Trends” to “Top 10” and retain/pass the filters that are already selected in the Dropdowns.  However all of the dataproviders are needed in each template in order to pass the filter values.  Therefore, all 12 queries are executing  when you load the main page.
I am looking for suggestions on what I could do differently to speed up the performance to get the Dashboard to respond within 10 seconds.
    Thank You.

    Dear Kristen,
well, one of the things that I do remember, a solution that we provided for a similar scenario, but, not exactly the same. Another difference is that it was in BW 3.5.
We had few reports that was responding slow. There were reports that was viewed by both sr. managers as well by his team. Sr. Mgr looked only at the high level data while the team looked at the item level data in the same report. So, we provided two links in the same report. Initially it will come up with a static data. To get a detailed data, the user has to click the next link to view item level data.
Now, how this works is through Reporting Agent. The first static data was provided as a cache(pre-calculated) hence, faster. It comes in just 2 secs. But, when the user needs a item level data, he clicks the lik provided, only in which case, it fetches data from the infoprovider(hybrid mode).
We will need to schedule periodically, accordingly, to refresh the cache to provide faster data.
Iam really not sure how far this will help you, but, can spark something( I hope!).
    Thanks

  • Adobe Flex's performances with Web

    Dear Flex Experts.
Good morning! How are you? I am SAP consultant,, I have preety big application( not on SAP platform but with PHP ZEND platform ) to develop with table UI, Google Maps, and other mighty visualisation UIs. I love Flex to work with. My most work is from SAP side so dont know possible performance issues with PHP and Zend .  My friends are telling not to use Flex as it will create performance issues in Web page.  I dont want to go with any other technology like JQuery or something. Is it really that much performance problem can face anyone ? if any one help me to understand How can I improve the performance of FLEX RIA, it will be great help of mine. I will appreciate any answer.

How could such high profile Flex applications as Morgan Stanley Matrix be built if Flex was such a slouch ?
    http://www.morganstanley.com/matrixinfo/
The answer is that a lot of people's talk is due to ignorance:
    - In order to create a Flex application that performs well, know both the innards of the Flex framework and don't work against the underlying Flash Player. A lot of people try and rewrite things that exist in the Flex framework or work against the Flash Player.
    - A lot of people will talk about Silverlight/.NET because it has multithreading and Flex does not. But multithreading used unwisely can lead to performance problems. A lot of operations in Flex are asynchronous and use a callback mechanism.
    - You can use Time Slicing for data heavy processing but best practice is to reduce the amount of data loaded and processed at any one time (e.g using paging): http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_Time_slicing-18691.html
    - Flash Player 11 will bring Stage 3D for GPU acceleration as well as possibly multithreading

  • Sun Java Application Server Performance with Web Services

We are running a web service on SJAS (Standard Edition). Load testing under 1 or 2 users works alright, but with 5 users making concurrent web service calls it immediately crashes the domain. Has anyone else run into performance issues when using SJAS with Web Services? Are there any configuration parameters we need to setup to handle more than 1 connection?
I'm sure that the application server can handle many concurrent connections, just not sure how to configure and where to look for more information. If anyone is aware of actual numbers for load testing, that would be great information.

SJSAS can definetly handle more users. Can you please tell us, what version of SJSAS and web services (jax-rpc 1.1 or jax-ws 2.0?) implementation you are using? When you say it crashes the domain, do you see any error messages in the server.log?
