Formula entry: clicking cell gives bad address

Hello,
I have spreadsheet created with Numbers `09 (2.0.3). In one particular row, if I try to create a formula by entering "=", then clicking on the cells I want, I get add cell addresses:
=Current Value 'xyz' 142:142 289:289-Cost Basis 'xyz' 142:142 289:289
that Numbers does not recognize:
There are no cells in the intersection of the ranges "Current Value 'xyz' 142:142 289:289"
These strings are similar to the header strings (column = "Current Value", row = "xyz"), but with additional range data that makes no sense.
If I instead type the address of the cells:
=I57-J57
It will work, but if I try to edit the formula at all, the cell addresses revert to the bad addresses described above.
If I do the same in any other row, it works properly: clicking the cell gives a colored oval containing the cell address with the header titles.
Nothing else about that row stands out as a problem.

nd, it eliminates a useful feature.
Most of us experienced users have have enough problems with the "feature" that we find it much less frustrating to uncheck the box. It is not a battle worth fighting IMHO.
Numbers '09 is something I use less and less. So maybe you can address what has changed recently? Any updates? if so... what? Anyone else used/modified the document?

I'm trying to make a spreadsheet compute with relative cell addresses. I tried what's on the help page, and it doesn't work.
What I’m attempting is to make one column contain the differences of another column, like,
Gn=Fn-F(n-1)
to apply to the entire G column, without typing (or even pasting) 100s of individual formulas. As an added bonus, I'd like for the invalid cell address resulting from n=1, to be defaulted to 0.

Another way to move the relative formula to other cells:
Select the cell with the formula, use the little handle in the center of the side (it appears when you move your pointer there). In the picture it is in the center of the bottom side. Drag that handle downward, this copies the formula into the cells you include in the drag. You can also do this upward, leftward, rightward by selecting one of the other sides.

Can I get the formula in a cell of the embedded spreadsheet?

With the Xcelsius SDK, is it possible to retrieve the actual formula in a cell of the embedded spreadsheet at design time?
We've tried several IPropertySheetProxy functions, with no luck:
proxy.getBindingAddresses(id) gives [Sheet1!R1C1]
proxy.getBindingDisplayName(id) gives 'Sheet1!$A$1'
proxy.getBindingValues(id) gives the result of the evaluated formula
proxy.hasFormula(id) returns true
Is there a way to retrieve the formula itself, as a String, e.g. "=B1-A1" ??

I'm fixing a Numbers document that I use in business daily that's become overly complicated, but while I want to clear/delete a number of cells in it to clean it up, I'm not sure if those cells are being used as source for other formulas on the page. I don't have to open all my formulas one by one to see if that cell is in there, do I?! That'd be a huge amount of work if I wanted to eliminate say 10 cells to search each formula on the page to see if it is in there or watch all the cells when I delete that cell to see if the numbers change! There's got to be an easier way! Right click doesn't seem to be any help.
I don't want to damage my daily tool to make it cleaner and reorganize it. Is there really no way to do a reverse look-up of which formulas a particular cell is in?! Any time I click on a formula it highlights all the CELLS in that formula. Why can't I (or can I?) do the reverse and see all the FORMULAS that contain a particular cell?
As a Numbers document ages or gets used frequently, you can sometimes forget which cells are tied to which formulas. You just look for the results of your formulas. Would be a nice thing to be able to do. Thoughts? Work-arounds? Answers?

Answer would be no unless application provided such feature. Numbers does not as far as I know.
Note that even if you have complete list of formulae used in a table, identifying formulae referencing any given cell is not simple.
E.g., cell T20 is referenced not only in
=T20+1
but also in
=SUM(T)
=SUM(20:20)
=SUM(S19:U22)
=OFFSET(S1,19,1,1,1)
=INDIRECT("T"&(10*2))
In order to identify such formula, we have to actually evaluate it to see if it references the given cell. Especially such formula as OFFSET() and INDIRECT() may not be found by static parser because their parameters can be dynamic.

Struggling with Applying Cell refences of formulas to multiple cells

Probably a basic question- I am new to Numbers.
Ive been struggling for ages with applying a formula or cell reference to more than one cell at a time. If I select multiple cells (shift or command clicking them) - then I am unable to create a new 'Cell References'. Pressing the equals = sign merely gives me an error sound. And the formula bar is not accessible
I have been struggling with this on and off now for about a week. Help - well it doesn't help and implies that I am doing the right thing, but it is not working. - Please help

A better use for your time was to read carefully *Numbers User Guide* and *iWork Formulas and Fucnctions User Guide*.
We may insert a reference to a range of cells in a cell's formula but we can't insert a formula in several cells with a single task.
The correct protocol is :
insert the formula in the first cell of the range then use the fill down (or fill up or fill to the right or fill to the left) feature.

Hi I am new to Apple products etc & I have imported an Excel doc to Numbers & I dont seem to be able to view the formula in a cell.
Can anyone help?

Hi João, Is there a possibility any of your formulas in the structure may be referencing some other query / CKFs? Is it possbile your structure was created in another query & reused in your new one? If so, you may unlock all links using the option 'Remove Reference' which can be accessed by right clicking on your structure.

WRTU54G-TM Port Forward issues, DHCP server disabled but still gives out addresses

I've seen other posts about port-forwarding issues. I've had to hard-reset the device twice in 2 months to clear this up.
One issue that I can't figure out at all is that the DHCP server gives out addresses when it is set to disabled. This is a problem because it gives out the public DNS servers, which will not resolve addresses on my LAN. Anyone else seen this?
Anyone had success putting this router behind a better one and still getting the phone SIM to register and work?

Have you tried to upgrade the firmware on your Router?
Click Download the latest firmware for your Router and save the Firmware file on your Desktop.
Once you Download the firmware for your Router, Now you need to login to the Router setup page and click on the "Administration" tab and below click on "Firmware Upgrade" and then click on the Browse Button and select the firmware file and click on Upgrade.
Once the firmware is upgraded successfully then you need to Reset your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from scratch.

Is there a way I can right-click on an email address on a page and open the url associated with that email

I'd like an easy way to right-click on an email address on a page and open the URL of that email. Ie ([email protected] and open up mozzilla.org in a new tab or window). Is there a way of doing this or an add-on that does it without having to highlight and cut and past into the address bar?

You can't delete the address, but you can set up a Rule to move messages to that address to the Trash or another folder. Go to http://icloud.com and go to the Mail page, click the cogwheel icon at top right and choose 'Rules'.
It's a bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - even though in fact you haven't posted them in full; I've asked the hosts to remove them.

JList - visual feedback of clicked cell

I would like to change the background color of the cell when Enter button is clicked to give visual feedback to user.
How can I do it?
I am extending DefaultListCellRenderer to change the background when the cell has focus or not.

If you draw any type of control into a cell renderer panel, it only draws a picture("Snap Shot") of what you are showing you cannot for example inter act with a JButton in a list rendered component you can only interact with the list object and based on this interaction redraw the object with the required output.
For example if you draw a JCheckbox button into a list cell the renderer only shows a "snap shot" of the jeckbox you can not inter act with the check box click method but you can redraw the liost rendered component and show the check box now as selected.

Mac 9.2 make bad address in DHCP

am employee in IT dept in my company , we have multi envoirment networks , Mac and pc's .... etc
my problem is , recently we use dhcp service , to give every computer its IP dynamically , but the problem that mac 9.2 make bad address in dhcp , although all the gonfigration in dhcp is correct , and i have important note that computers with OS x doesnt make bad address in dhcp ???
I installed TCP options and it dosent solve the problem

I dont understand ur question well, but in dhcp server, in mac scope that we configured we see like this :
192.0.0.25 "bad address "
192.0.0.25 "bad address"
192.0.0.26

my sun solaris 9 machine on boot up looses its IP settings and i get the error configuring IPv4 interfaces config bad address. All its files ie hosts, netmasks , defaultrouter have the rifgt settings. I have tried sys-unconfig and on initial boot up after sys-unconfig the machine comes up well. On the next reboot the machine returns the above error.
Please experts help me out. Why is this so and how do I solve it?

I've just had the exact same problem and now resolved it. I believe the error message is accurate. You should check your /etc/nsswitch.conf file and check that under hosts "files" is typed. The person that removed NIS from my system in question typed "file" not "files" on the "hosts" line. Once fixed everything came online, (the system could resolve the hostname to IP address (via hosts file)). Check that your /etc/hostname.hme0 is a single hostname (not FQDM), and that entry is present in your /etc/hosts file.

/mnt/cdrom/install/linux/runIns.sh instead of
/mnt/cdrom/runInstaller
Now I just have a problem where it doesn't seem to install the
TCP/IP protocol...

have downloaded Oracle Standard 8i 8.1.5 Server and untared it.
I have setup environment variables, users, groups, directories,
and downloaded jre116_v5 and made a link to it
in /usr/local/jre. When I loggin as oracle user and go to the
location of the install files and run ./runInstaller, it gives
me the follwing:
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.

"mprotect reset: Bad address" Help

Hi,
I am running a server built in java which accepts lots of tcp connections from clients and performs database operations on their behalf.
I compile the server with Suns jdk1.3 but run it with IBMJava2-13.
The following message gets printed to standard error
mprotect: Bad address
mprotect reset: Bad address
Sometimes the jvm crashes after printing this message and sometimes it just hangs taking up 90% of the cpu. At other times it carries on running without problems
I assume this means that there has been a memory access violation. Also the problem seems to be with the jvm rather than my code because if the code had a bug then there would be an indication to the buggy portion of the code along with the above message.
Could it be that the problem is that I am compiling and running the program using different java products? I know that java code is portable in that sense but in the real world this is obviously not the case.

hi , i tried compiling the .java files and running them with IBM jdk , but it still gives the same problems. I have not yet compiled as well as run it using suns' jdk. the problem is that it is very difficult for me to recreate the situation.
