Formula in the excel output

Hi All ,
I am using BIP 10.1.3.4.2 and we have a following requirement from client.
They want to write a formula in the excel output
Example:
Output has and all having value zero.
When I execute the report the following output comes up.
Item colA   ColB  ColC(ColA+ColB)
It1     0       0       0
What business needs is if they will change the value of ColA and ColB in the output  the ColC .
will change automatically.
Please suggest.
Thanks & Regards,

I would suggest you to create an excel template.
You can also create formula column as required.
The resulting excel will have columns with formulas.

When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb. The records contained in excel file is 4000 records. When taking the excel records and copy to new excel file the excel file size is 3.5 mb only. Why does the oracle software generates 20mb file?

Hello,
This issue is because the Excel output from BI Publisher is MHTML (XML Publisher generates XHTML) not binary .xls.
MHTML and XHTML are more verbose formats than binary .xls.
It will be large because the current Excel output is just an HTML and not compressed like PDF. Please use the workaround (save it as .xls file).  This is a known limitation of RTF layout templates.
BI Publisher Enterprise has a new feature True Excel Templates. The layouts generate binary Excel output.
Excel Output File Size Generated By BI Publisher is Very Large (Doc ID 760437.1)

• How to retain the leading zeroes in a number in the excel output.

Hi All,
I have a requirement to display the numbers as text in the excel output. Ex: 001 should be displayed as 001 and not 1, as it happens in excel.
I know displaying 001 as '001' works, but this is not acceptable.
Also, I need to send a huge file (>20MB) through bursting as an Email, but the mail is not received even the bursting program finishes in success. I tried the zipping option as well but in vain. I know this can be done via FTP but I need to send it through email.
Thanks,
Rahul

Maverick,
See the admin these:

Here:

This will give details on how to split the output into multiple files during bursting. If my memory serves me correctly, it is in the admin guide.

• How to default the print options to the excel output

Hi,
We have a requirement to default the print options in the output of the report and the output is of excel type.
Basically I need excel out put, which should be printed on Letter size paper and orientation should be landscape.
For this I created a RTF template keeping orientation as landscape. I've loaded the xml data and see the output in excel. But the problem come when view print preview. By default it shows the preview in portrait orientation and scaling set to 'Adjust to 100% normal size'. Because of this my report is not getting printed in a single page. Manually If I change the orientation to landscape and scaling to 'Fit to 1 page(s) wide by 1 tall', the report prints properly. so how to default these properties while generating the output itself?
Thanks,
Vijay

I got a work around for this. Instead of using RTF template, I used Microsoft Excel itself as template and did the formatting in excel.
thanks,
Vijay

• Not able to view the excel output from eBS

Hi All,
I am not able to open the reports for the first time and this error is keep on coming everyday whenever i try to open any report for the first time.
Microsoft office Excel cannot access the file 'http://  '. There are several possible reasons:
The file name or path does not exist.
The file is being used by another program.
The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook
But in the second time o/p opens without any issues.
Can you please let me know what will be the cause of the issue.
Thanks

What browser are you using?
If Chrome, try something else. Chrome works fine with help on the server but not locally. There is more in Snippets on my site about the Chrome issue.

• Excel output for the xml publisher report when it is scheduled

How to get the excel output for the xml publisher report when it is scheduled by a apps user? Like what is the user profile option (for the apps user who runs the report) and what are the other things that needs to be taken care of so that only this xml publisher report run by this apps user produces a EXCEL output (When scheduled) ???
Really appreciate it if any one can help me in this regards.
Thanks
Munna

Hi Munna,
For eBusiness Suite (apps user) the report output is stored the same way whether executed immediately or scheduled.,To get excel set the options > output format to Excel. Only the user that submitted the report can view it, or you can get the output file from the server. Or you can set the notify option so that a Workflow Notification is sent when the request completes.

• Excel Output is being displayed as HTML in the browser

Hi All,
I am using PeopleSoft XML Publisher 5.6.2 to generate an Excel report using RTF template. The report runs successfully.
However, when I click the Output file link in the View Log page of process scheduler, the file is being displayed as a HTML page, though the extension of the file is .xls.
Also when I try to save the file by using 'Save Taget as' option, the browser prompts me to save the file as 'mhtm' file and not 'xls' file.
The following is an extract from the output file.
<html>
<!-- Generated by Oracle XML Publisher 5.6.2 -->
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
<title>IM Top 10 Surplus &amp; Deficit Locations</title>
After doing some research on Internet, I found the following blog post(dated back in 2008) to describe my situation and a workaround to the problem.
http://peoplesofttipster.com/2008/04/16/xls-xmlp-output-opening-in-browser-not-excel/
http://peoplesofttipster.com/2008/04/18/xls-xmlp-output-opens-in-browser-workaround/
Workaround described in the above blog post is to update the charset to us-ascii replacing UTF-8. This seems to work. But with limited file processing capabilities of peoplecode, this workaround is not a simple solution.
I also verified the mime-type mapping in the web.xml file in the webserver. Please find below the .xls mime-type mapping in the web.xml file.
<mime-mapping> <extension> xls </extension> <mime-type> application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type></mime-mapping>
Question:
1.How do I force the browser to open the excel output file using either Excel plugin or Excel Application instead of displaying it as HTML page?
2.If not the above, how can I force the system to promt the user to save the file as Excel file instead of mhtml?
Additional details :
work enivronment
PeopleSoft FSCM 8.9
PeopleTools 8.48.17
Oracle 10g
Windows NT
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,
Vamsi Krishna

Please try this by Open windows explorer, Click Tools -> Folder Options ->,Click on File Types and Select XLS from the list, Click Advanced, select "Open" and Make sure the “Browse in same window” is not selected.
Hope this helps,

• Missing column data in Excel output

I have a report where one object is not displaying when output to excel. When refreshing the report in Webi or Deski, the results show, but when it is exported to excel, that particular column is missing data...the column header still shows though. I have tried adding the formula =Trim([Object]) which worked once but is not working in this instance. Any ideas on what may be causing this and potential fixes?

Hi,
There are no merged columns. I made sure the table is flush to the top of the report. Also the column header is visible. See below. I highlighted the Summary column in webi to show the formula that had worked previously to alleviate this issue, but as you can see in the excel output, it is not working. Also, I made sure the formatting of that column is the same as the other columns.

• Chart(graph) is not displaying in my Excel output

Hi All,

I have developed a RTF with graph, when i moved the RTF and run the report through application (the Excel output is not showing the Graph, but in pdf output the graph is coming fine).
I have gone through this documents
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E10091_01/doc/bip.1013/e05000/toc.htm
and the forum question already raised for the same.
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/1018488
But i dont know the exact path of the web.xml file to change as mentioned in the links. Can any one help on this to resolve this issue.
Thanks & Regards
Srikkanth.M

Hi,
Its looks like this might be the customization issue please have a look at the OSS Notes 457497 and refer to the questions 2, 3 &  4 may be you can get the idea (Specially 4).
Why are some texts not printed at all?
Answer:
Which texts are printed depends on the Customizing settings of purchasing.
Go to Customizing for purchasing.
Choose "Messages -> Texts for Messages -> Define Texts for <Purchasing Document>". Choose "Print Document <Purchasing Document>". Select "Texts for Document Items" and add a new entry.
You must specify a value for the print sequence in the detailed screen for your new entry.
Let me know in case of any.

SRinivas

You should put this issue on the XML Pub forum.
I remember some specific setting required for linking images off the instance top. Check the XML Pub dev guide.
