Formula or Methodology used for Seasonal & Linear Regression Forecast Model

Hi all,
I am using the Forecast Model 35 (Seasonal & Linear Regression Model) for Statistical Forecast generation.
Now I am facing the Issue that my Model 35 is consistently Under Forecasting.
Can anyone let me know what Formula or Logic is used by the Model to generate the Statistical Forecast. What are the Parameters that can really improve the Under Forecasting trend for Model 35.
kindly help...
Thanks & Regards,
Vishal.S.Pandya.

Couple of quick checks that you should do
1. Make sure there is no Like Profile active for that planning object that is interfering
2. Do a Strategy 56 to test for season and trend. See if streatgy 56 indeed recommends regression model
3. If strategy 56 fails for season or trend, and you enforce seasonal or linear regression model - i would expect to see the behaviour you are seeing
4. Make sure there are adequate time buckets for forecast initialization
5. Make sure the forecast initialization buckets are representative of the forecasts and are not outliers
IN this regard do check

  • Seasonal linear regression

    Hi there, APO Guru's
We have created a forecast profile that uses strategy 35.
However when we run the forecast with this model for say the last 36months of history. The system proposes an almost straight line forecast. If we run it with 18 months history then the system proposes an acceptable forecast. I can now clearly see the sales history pattern in my forecast.
We do have enough data and seasonality in our history for the 36 months to work.
Can anyone maybe shed some light on this.
We also recently upgraded to SCM 5.0
    Thanks for your assistance
    Robert

Before the system applies seasonal linear regression, it carries out a seasonal test. The system uses this test to check if the historical data contains any seasonal patterns. For this, the system determines the autocorrelation coefficient for all periods.
If the value determined is at least 0.3, the system applies seasonal linear regression. If the value is less than 0.3, the system does not recognise a seasonal pattern and applies linear regression.
So I think the test against your 36 months of data returns a value of less than 0.3 and hence it uses linear only, and the value for your 18 months seems to be greater than 0.3.
(P.S. You can change this limit in the /SAPAPO/SCM_FCSTPARA BAdI – Method PARAMETER_SET)

  • Home Use for the Cisco 1230 AG Model

Hi, Does anyone have instructions for using the Cisco 1230 AG Model at home i.e. using Home DSL or a Cable? So far, I assume I can hook a router into the cable modem, and
hook the AP into the router. Then, the AP will act as a DHCP server? If someone can help or point me to a doc, that would be great.

The router will act as a DHCP server, not the AP. Set up a DHCP scope on the router and put the AP on the router with a static address in the range of (but not the DHCP scope of) the vlan.
    for example, assume a 192.168.1.0 /24 subnet.
    network is x.x.x.0
    gateway is x.x.x.1
AP is .2 thru .10 (in case you want more!)
    These are statically assigned
DHCP on router should be configured starting at .11 or above

  • Using Multiple Linear Regression from SAP Predictive Analysis within S&OP

How could I go about using a model exported from SAP Predictive Analysis, say a multiple linear regression model, as a stored procedure in HANA from within S&OP?

    Hi Kevin,
You cannot use a model exported from SAP Predictive Analysis in S&OP.  S&OP uses the same PAL libraries from HANA for Statistical Forecasting. We enable a few statistical forecasting methods from PAL like exponential smoothing from S&OP.

  • How to use Oracle OAB Fast Formulas in Discoverer-desktop [ for reporting]

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to use a fast formula in discoverer-desktop [for reporting]. Currently, we have a disco-report that calcuates the 'monthly salary', but we don't want to use that. Instead, we have a custom fast-formula [xx_oab_monthly_salary] which has the conditions and calculations that we need.
I want to use that formula in discoverer-desktop directly and get the monthly-salary.. i.e., someone needs to create a folder under the business area and add it i believe.. the formula internally calls a function.
when i checked about this with my dba - he said, he can add the 'function', but not the formula. and i need to write the calculation part...
does anyone know how to add it...there shud a way right...
i do not have access to the technical-stuff here..
someone said ["you can wrap the FF_EXEC.run_formula call into your own pl/sql function and map this function into the EUL so that the formula can be called from a workbook.", but this talks about pl/sql-do we need pl/sql
    for this].
also, someone else said [ some fast formulas need specific contexts to be set. Depending on whether the fast formula below the only fast formula that you want to recreate in Discoverer.
For a single formula, in general my recommendation is to recreate the fast formula instead of using the ff_exec call].
    any quick answers greatly appreciate..
    thx,

    Hi,
That's right you need to develop the pl/sql function outside of Discoverer using a pl/sql tool or just SQL*plus. I haven't an example to hand, but can dig one up if you need it. Once you have the function developed you can map it into the EUL using Discoverer Administrator. It will then be available to Discoverer Desktop/Plus as a database function when creating calculations. So you can then just add the calculation to an existing or new report.
Alternatively, you can build the pl/sql function into a view and load the view into a new folder using Discoverer Admin.

  • Setting up DAQ system for testing (using pressure transducer, linear position sensor and strain gauges)

    Hello,
I like to get your suggestion in setting up the DAQ system. I am very beginner in this issue.
These SCXI listed below are what we have in the laboratory. I will use DAQ card 6062E.
    SCXI 1000
    SCXI 1520
    SCXI 1140
    SCXI 1142
    SCXI 1305 , 1302 , 1300
    SCXI 1122
    SCXI 1100
I will use linear position sensor in my experiment. But I'm not sure which SCXI shoud I connect to this sensor.
This sensor gives 4-20mA output. it requires +13 to +28Vdc excitation.
I will use pressure transducer (strain gauge type) which gives 100mV output and requires 10Vdc supply.
I will use strain gauges 350 ohm.
Regarding to the number of channels used in my experiment, I will use 1 channel of pressure transducer, 1 channel of linear position sensor and 3 or 4 strain gauges.
Could you please suggest me which SCXI should be used with pressure transducer, linear position sensor and strain gauges.
Now I'm thinking to use SCXI 1520 with strain gauges and pressure transducer. Is that ok?
But I'm not so sure on the linear position sensor which gives current output.
And regarding to sampling rate, I like to get minimum of 60-70 KS/s for pressure transducer. And around 1KS/s for linear position sensor and 1KS/s for each channel of strain gauge are enough. Can I archieve these sampling rate from the available SCXI modules mentioned before? I attached the datasheet of pressure transducer and linear position sensor for you. Please see attached files.
I'm reallly look forward for your suggestion.
    Thank you in advance,
    Ganchai.

    Hi Ganchai,
I would recommend the 1520 with a 1314 terminal block for connecting your pressure transducer and strain gauge. It is designed for excitation, bridge completion and has many other features to fit these applications. For your linear position sensor, try using the 1100 module with an additional precision shunt resistor. For example, our 1308 terminal block has built in 249Ohm shunt resistors for taking current inputs for your 1100. These connections should give you the readings you would like.
As far as sampling rate goes, you should be fine with your requirements. Good luck and I hope you are succesful.

  • Is there a linear equations VI thatI can use for inputting the coefficients with variables attached to them? Thank you.

Is there a linear equation VI that I can use for inputting the coefficients with variables attached to them? I am currently studying elec engineering and am in the thick of transient analysis. It is very time consuming figuring the mesh and nodal analysis in the transform domain. With 3 branches in a mesh analysis the resistors, inductors and capacitors are represented with variable s in them. I need to determine in the transform domain then convert to the time domain. One equation goes like this: (3+2s+1/4s)i1s - (2s)i2s - (1/4s)i3s = 6/s -6. The other equations are similar. I must keep the variable s in the equation and solve it with s in the result. I made several VIs for determining simultaneous linear equations some for complex numbers and they work great. This one has me a little stumped. I thinking that maybe Labview doesn't have a VI for this. The other VIs were fine because you just plugged in the numbers and ran the VI and got your result. Any VIs that do LaPlace transform operations?
    Thank you.
    Tom

    Hello Tom,
You can find a VI for doing Laplace transforms in Functions->Analyze->Signal Processing->Frequency Domain (this VI is only available in the Full and Professional versions).

  • Is variable offsets can be used for characteristics, text and formulas?

    hi all,
can anyone let me know whether variable offsets can be used for characteristics, text and formulas.
if so cany one send me examples of using offsets to my email id [email protected]
    regds
    hari

You use offsets on dates (0CALMONTH, 0FISCYEAR, 0DAT and so on) and of course the corresponding texts.
If you have 0CALMONTH in your query and you want to do the same thing not only for the current month but for the past twelve months, they you just minus 1, 2....11,12 for each selections, and at the same time you can create text variable for the description of each month.
    thanks.

  • Linear Regression - set intercept = 0?

Using a linear regression, is there a way to set the intercept to zero?

This annoyed me for a short while when I first started using Diadem.
Instead of trying to run a linear regression, you can use non linear curve fitting and change your setup function formula from a+b*x to simply b*x (or similar). This ensures that your fit intercept is 0.

  • Crystal Reports Linear Regression Trendline Slope

I need to know the slope of my linear regression trendline from my chart to determine whether the trend is positive or negative. I can't find any information on how to display and/or use that value in a formula.

It appears that the steps I was taking was incorrect.  To actually get the trendline, you need to click the line in the line chart that you want the trendline to be against.  Follow the steps above BUT do not start it from the legend.

    rangeAxis.setStandardTickUnits(NumberAxis.createStandardTickUnits());
    ChartPanel chartPanel = new ChartPanel(chart);
    frm_grafica.add(chartPanel);
    chartPanel.setVisible(true);

I think I have an idea as to what to do.  I still need to retain the integrity of the original data, therefore I will be creating new channels.
In a script you could do a loop looking for a value that is within the range then copy that data set to the new channel.  Are there any builtin commands that would make this process quicker or more streamlined?  All I know to do is to look at each value with CHD and make the decision from there.
    Thanks,
    Wayne
