Formulas to work like Excel for Keyboard navigation?

When I type a function in Excel, the variables show up like "PMT - (pmt, nper, int...etc). Plus, I can use the arrows ("<-", "->") keys to navigate to cells without typing "d5", "c5" etc. Am I missing something, or did Apple miss something? Does Excel have something patented? Why can't I use the keyboard?
Anybody know...?

I think I understand why apple chose no to implement keyboard navigation for formulas.
In light of the nature of sheets in Numbers, where you can have multiple sheets that are disconnected in the same page - you wouldn't be able to jump from one to the other without the mouse anyway.
But I would gladly do what I do in any other spreadsheet software out there: when I need to move to another sheet (another tab) in the spreadsheet I grab the mouse, click on it, and happily resume keyboarding.
At least give me the ability to navigate via keyboard on the same sheet where the formula is tacked.

Have 3 columns. 1st with month, 2nd describing type of work, 3rd with hours.

You're right, it sounds confusing. It sounds like you want to create products of Months X Description of work X Hours and then sum them up.
It's as amazing to me that it would work in Excel as that you think it would work in Pages or Numbers.

I've been following this thread and like many others, stock quotes in Excel for Macintosh 2011 stopped working for me shortly before Christmas. While I've noticed that it will work on my work computer which is running windows 7, I can not get it
to work at home on my mac, even when I use the same .iqy file as on the pc. I am at my wits end. Can you offer any help?

Hi,
If your template is static, you can write the excel function anywhere in the template. If the template is dynamic, then you can write the function after the expansion ( at the end of the expansion).

I don't understand the IF logique of Numbers it doesn't work like Excel

Here is my Excel formula =IF(E24=1,4,IF(E24=2,8,IF(E24=3,12,IF(E24=4,18,0))))
I really like the look and the feel of Numbers but the IF fonction seem's a lot limited. To be more clear
if I enter on excel etheir 1, 2, 3, 4, it gives me the good anwser 4, 8, 12, 18. No idea how to do that on Numbers

IF in Numbers works pretty much identically to IF in Excel. Here;s your formula, withe the E24 cell references edited to fit the rows on the sample table. As you can seem it gives 'correct' results for each of the 1, 2, 3, 4 test values (rows 3, 4, 5, 6), as well as correct results for values not included in this set (all other rows).
I suspect Wayne's analysis is correct, and the error message you can read on clicking the red error triangle is "E24 isn't a valid reference." Usually "isn't a valid reference" means the referenced cell does not exist on the table.

"You can't compare a date with a number" in a formula that worked in Excel

I opened in Numbers an invoice file which was created in Excel. Formula returns hours worked. It has an "if" condition for the date field. I am assuming that that is the reason I get this "You can’t compare a date with a number because their data types are different." What do I do?
Formula reads =IF(SUM(A11)>0,(D11−C11),"") where A11 is a date and D11- C11 are times, ie 4PM and 5PM

I agree with your words about using Sum with a single cell [have no idea why the "creator" of the file did that]; same for the parentheses enclosing subtraction. Yet cleaning it up as you showed me [=IF(A11>0,D11−C11,"") ] I got the same comment

Makes me think that t quinn is on to something with his "think the issue is with the expression ">0". Could it be that >0 is the number referred to and <>"" and ISBLANK are not numbers?!

PS: I am so happy that I am able to use Spelling and Grammar Checker with Safari on these posts. I was born and raise in old Yugoslavia and I use the Checker with all my emails etc and its a life saver. hahaha

Is there a tool that works like 'Liquify' for Photoshop Touch on Ipad

I always use photoshop on my PC and i am thinking of getting an IPAD.
Photoshop Touch looks good but there a few tools that i cant find much info about online, so please help of you can.
I would like to use it for fashion and beauty images so i need to do the following things......
Make bodies slimmer/wider (i usually use liquify/bloat/shrink for this, im worried that if i use 'warp' it will look gimmiky and too extreme but i still want it to look quite natural.
Make skin texture smoother manually (like blur tool)
Make eyes and teeth whiter manually (to look natural not gimmiky)
Please help if you can and let me know what tools i can use for this in Photoshop Touch on IPAD.

There is a blur tool in PS Touch. You can also use the dodge or burn effect via the paint tool. (Instead of painting with a color, you "paint" the effect, which can be customized to your liking. In addition to dodge/burn, there are also a bevy of other adjustments and effects to paint with, like saturation and brightness.)
There is a warp tool. Not sure if it would be the right tool for the job but it doesn't seem gimmicky to me from what I've tried (mostly corrections in perspective).
If you know anyone with an iPad or Android tablet and they have PS Touch, ask to see it.

Where are defined the keybindings for keyboard navigation on a JTree?

Do you mean, where is the binding (i.e., the InputMap) created? For the most part, they're generated by the by the LookAndFeel and stored in the UIDefaults table under the keys "FocusInputMap", "AncestorInputMap" and "ComponentInputMap". Most will be found in BasicLookAndFeel.java, but the concrete LnF may override some of them. Also, some UI delegates generate or add to the InputMaps; I know BasicEditorPaneUI does.
If you want the code for the action itself, it's in BasicTreeUI.java, in the inner class "Actions".

When I open firefox it works like normal for about 10-15 seconds and then it just closes. It doesn't give me any sort of error msg. How can I fix this?

Firefox is closing without any sort of error msg. I open it and after 10-15 seconds it just closes. I don't know what's going on because it doesn't give me any msg. as to why it closed.

These apperarances of the spinning wheel tend to be related to some io operation that takes too long. Maybe the finder is trying to reach a network server that became unavailable.
I would try clearing caches and do an overall maintenance with an utility like OnyX.
Also, trashing preferences does no harm and is often the first troubleshooting measure when FCP X misbehaves.

How can you get the keypad on a USB keyboard to work in Excel for Mac. Mouse keys is disabled/unchecked, but cannot get it to work. Even tried downloading a 'num lock' app and it didn't help.

I do not have any problem with using shift registers in timed loops. What version of LabVIEW are you using? Can you please elaborate on why neither shift registers or local variables meet your needs? I have attached a VI that saves a previous iteration and then computes and displays the difference. Let me know if you have problems running it.

Arrow keys stopped working in excel

The arrow keys on the keyboard that came with my new iMac have suddenly stopped working in Excel for moving between cells. They will only scroll the page up and down and left to right. Surely I have just inadvertently changed some setting. But, I have no idea how to change it back because I have no idea what I may have changed! Help!

Eric!!!! I thought all this time that nobody answered my question. And there it was, all the way back in October of 2011. I guess I thought someone would knock on my door and tell me my question had been answered.
Thinking all was for naught, I plugged in my PC keyboard and fixed the problem and then unplugged it.
Anyway, the keystrokes you suggested work wonderfully AND I am awestruck by the link you suggested. I want you to know, I googled the problem and read everything I found and not one person ever mentioned the Mac keystrokes for accomplishing "F-14".

Disable Accordion Keyboard Navigation in IE7

I have an accordion widget that I don't want to have keyboard
access for since that changes the appearance when it's active. I've
made sure that the accordion does not have a "tabIndex" attribute
and this seems to work to disable the keyboard navigation in
Firefox and Safari. IE7 is still providing keyboard access,
however, and when the accordion is active all the panel tabs turn
blue. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Ok, well I figured out that the easier solution is to just
change the CSS styles for:
.AccordionFocused .AccordionPanelTab
.AccordionFocused .AccordionPanelOpen .AccordionPanelTab
to not be blue when the accordion has focus.

in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, select the Shortcuts tab, and then select Mission Control on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, make sure that the Mission Control checkbox is checked, double-click on its current key combination (by default “^↑”) so that the key combination is highlighted, and then press the F3 button — that will set its shortcut to be F3. You can now press F3 to bring up Mission Control without needing to also press the Fn button.

Keyboard navigation no longer working

Keyboard navigation (cursor keys, home/end, page up/down) within a textbox does not seem to work for certain sites - gmail for example. Navigation in other form elements, like input fields seem to work fine. When I downgrade gmail to use their "basic html" version, everything works fine. Which leads me to think there is an issue with my version of javascript....
The keyboard shortcuts for copy an paste (ctrl-c / ctrl-v) only seem to work within a input field tag. It doesn't seem to work within any other html element - this happens on all sites.
I am using Ubuntu 10.4 (64 bit) with Firefox 3.6.8.
Any help troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). 
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]] 
 
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. 
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions. 
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
