Forte support of Oracle and VMS

We need to deploy a Forte V2.0.F.2 application on VMS V7.1 and Oracle
V7.3.2
Forte does not officially support this configuration!
Anyone out there tried it, and what were the results?

Hi Jürgen,
Window Server 2008 is not supported at present. Oracle 11g should be supported - I believe a few of my clients are using version 11g.
All the best,
Luke

  • Best Practice to Setup an application to work with both oracle and db2 db

    Hi,
We have an application that currently supports both oracle and db2 databases . It is currently using JPA with eclipselink as backend mechanism and we want to move to ADFBc as our backend . So what is best practice to do this?
I came across an old post in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/adf-methodology/UlJZSTu14Io that states to create two different model projects to support oracle and db2 .
Is this still the standard ? Is there a way that we could work around rather than creating multiple projects?
How do i get the view controller to work with multiple model projects if this is the case?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the response .
The problem is i would have the same schema on both the databases (both in oracle and db2) .
I don't see a scenario where i want both the application model projects at the same time . What i meant is , Application will either be deployed with Oracle DB or DB2 but not with both on a production environment .
So is there a way where i just change the connection parameters alone rather having two different models ?
If i have to use two model projects ,  would it be possible say i built the view controller for Oracle , and use it for DB2 if i make sure the BC objects names are similar between model projects and switch just the model jar based on the deployment environment ?

  • Is Forté UDS version 5.1.3 supported on Oracle 10?

    Hi,
in the company I work in we've got applications developed in Forté UDS 5.1.3 and we've got Oracle 8.1.7
We're going to change Oracle version and we'd like to upgrade towards Oracle 10.
Someone has told me Forté UDS 5.1.3 is only supported on Oracle 9 and not on Oracle 10. Do you agree with that? Can you help me to undestand whether it's true or not?
    Thanks in advance!

There are documentation and certification matixes provided at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/S1_UnifiedDevelopmentServer_35
Why not look there.. and contact Sun support to clarify?
From a pure client-server perspective - the Forte database interface for Oracle supports need to support OCI (or JDBC) as communication interface to Oracle. The question thus is whether or not this interface can use the later OCI driver versions (9i, 10g, 11g). As a 9i OCI client can for example connect successfully to a 10g or 11g database instance, Forte can likely be used with such a client to connect to a newer Oracle version.

  • RE: (forte-users) appdist copy from VMS to NT question...

Well, there are some graphic FTP clients for windows that allow
you to get files from FTP-servers using simple drag and drop.
Most of them even support the option of selecting a directory
and dragging it, with all its subdirectories, to your local drive
    with a single mouse action.
The only problem might be with binary vs. text files. The appdist
directory has both filetypes. Getting text files as if they were
binary files may cause problems. Getting binary files as if they
were text certainly will cause problems. So, either get the
whole tree binary and hope for the best. Or get each file indi-
vidually and set the correct bin or asc setting. Or use a tool
that is smart enough to see if a file is binary or text and hope
    it doesn't make any mistakes.

Does anyone here have a simple way to copy a whole appdist tree for myapp1
say from VMS to NT? I have created a new environment on a NT box and want
    to
copy down all our application distributions.
    eg:

    vmsbox1::forte_root:[appdist.aenv_myapp_cl3...]*.*;
should go to NT machine ntbox1
    [ntbox1] d:\temp\myapp\cl3\...
Even just to d:\temp\aenv_myapp_cl3\... will do.
ftp doesn't seem to do the trick here. Of cause I could write some routine

  • Oracle on VMS question

    Hi,
At the steel company I work at, We are starting to look at implementing a new ERP (i-Renaissance). We are seriously considering having the DB on oracle. We are thinking on having it on Windows or perhaps Unix. Some other people here are considering having it on VMS.
I am asking the broad question of the for and againsts of oracle on VMS. I am asking the question with 3 aspects in mind.
    - Reliability of the DB on VMS
    - Cost of the VMS implementation vs. windows. (license, OS and hardware)
    - Support for potential issues (both from oracle and from community such as these forums)
What about RDB. Should we consider it?
Please keep in mind that we are at the beginning of this decision process and that I am new to oracle. I need to make an informed decision on this.
    Best wishes to all!

Well thank you so far for the replies.
Currently where I work we have a bunch of windows servers for most of everything we need. Our aging ERP system is VMS/ALPHA based (the alpha is 12 years old I think). We will have the ERP company come and migrate us to the new system.
Some people here think (since that is what they know), that the DB and application server for the ERP should all be on VMS/ALPHA. I do not reject VMS outright, but I too have doubts about VMS's future although I KNOW it is a solid OS. I also wonder how long will Oracle develop the DB on VMS.
So definately we will consult with the ERP company for advice on those matters.
So my question boils down to: if running the DB and aplication on windows is a viable option for the ERP should I say no to VMS based on the cloudy future of the OS???
Also will the VMS server performance be similar to a windows server(s) solution provided we get a new alpha???
What about cost of the 2 solutions?
What about support in case of issues with the DB? Should I be worried about this on a VMS based DB?
Thanks so far for the replies, It is helping my thought process.
    Later!

  • Is VMPlayer3 supported by Oracle DB 11gR2 RAC system ?

    Folks,
Hello. I have been running Oracle regular ( a single instance) Database 11gR1 successfully with Oracle Linux 5.6 as Guest OS in VMPlayer3 and with Windows 7 as Host OS for a long time.
Now, I am installing Oracle Database 11gR2 RAC system (2 nodes) in the same environment that is with Oracle Linux 5.6 as Guest OS in VMPlayer3 and with Windows 7 as Host OS.
I have installed Clusterware for 2 nodes. But it seems that VMPlayer3 is not supported by Oracle DB 11gR2 RAC system.
Only VMware Server 2.0.2 is supported. When I install VMware Server2.0.2 in Windows 7, the error message comes up as follows:
"Setup has detected that VMPlayer is already installed on this machine. Please uninstall this product through the Control Panel and try again."
This means we cannot installed VMPlayer3 and VMware Server 2.0.2 in one OS Windows 7. I have installed many VMs in VMPlayer3 and cannot uninstalled VMPlayer3.
    My questions are:
Can any folk make sure whehter VMPlayer3 is supported by Oracle DB 11gR2 RAC system or not ?
If not, how to solve the issue that VMPlayer3 and VMware Server 2.0.2 cannot be installed in one OS Windows 7 ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. As I know, VMPlayer 3 supports Oracle Linux 5.6 as Guest OS and Windows 7 as Host OS.
But when I am installing Clusterware and running the script root.sh, the error message comes up as follows:
"ADVM/ACFS is not supported on Oracle Linux-release-5-6-6.0.1".
    My questions are:
First, what is ADVM/ACFS about ?
Second, can any folk make sure whether Oracle DB 11gR2 RAC system is compatible to run in Oracle Linux-release-5-6-6.0.1 in VMPlayer 3 with Windows 7 as Host OS ?
    Thanks.

Only Apple Account Security could help at this point. You can try calling Apple Support in Canada - you'll have to find one of the several ways, such as Skype, to call an 800 number from outside of the relevant country - and ask for Account Security and see if they can help. Or you can find a friend who speaks Chinese and ask them to help you talk to Apple Support in China. There are really no other options that I know of.
Note, by the way, that these are user-to-user support forums. You aren't speaking with Apple when you post here.

What's so hard about finding a "best linux distro for installing Oracle11g"? The supported distros are listed in the fine Installation Guide for Linux. At the top of the list is Oracle's own Oracle Linux, which is in the same family as Red Hat.
