FORTE.VER file on various platforms

Hi,
I used to refer to the software available in my $PATH by
looking at $FORTE_ROOT/FORTE.VER
How to check on NT ?
j-paul

Just to follow up, I did verify ELP Config Reader is required on the V210 for hardware monitoring. So, I need to understand what is needed on the various platforms and how to handle these variations when using reaponce files for install.

    If you are looking for it in code, the OperatingSystem class has a Forté
    version attribute.

  • Using The Same Audio Files On Multiple Platforms

    When I import new audio into logic - often it will say that is creating wave forms for the display.
    Q: I notice that the audio files on disk do not show an altered modified date - so where are these wave form displays being saved - on the audio file or inside the logic song?
    Q: I am interested in possibly going back and forth between logic and Pro tools LE - and at different times using the same audio files for both platforms. Assuming I am not doing any destructive editing - is it OK to use the same set of files for both platforms - or do I need to make duplicates (I'd rather not)? Also, how does this wave form display get dealt with by going back and forth between the two platforms?

    A: the waveform overlays are stored in separate,
    temporary files - *.ovm files or something, but my
    memory is fuzzy on that for now. The original audio
    files are not modified in any way.
    Hmmm... I've wondererd about this, too, and as best I can tell, Logic DOES modify the original files.
    I just imported some stereo interleaved AIF files into a project (with "copy external audio files to project folder" disabled), and I couldn't see any evidence of waveform creation--a disk search by date revealed nothing looking like waveform overviews, and there were no modifications to the AIF file dates.
    So... the next time I imported some AIF files, I checked the file sizes before the import...
    Sure enough, the files got bigger by about 100K after being imported into a Logic session, even though the file's timestamps were not changed.
    Looks like maybe Logic does write the waveforms into the files themselves ?
    On a related note, the manual suggests that it's possible to change the "copy external audio files to project folder" setting after creating a project, but I haven't found this anywhere other than File->New... anyone know ?
    Thanks!

  • Tolerance limits of various platforms?

    Many times when dealing with geodetic data the 0.05 (5cm) tolerance is used as a soft limit, which is usually qualified with something like "Depending on the precision of the platform..."
    All our data is in geodetic form, so it would be good to know where operators and functions might "break" and not return what we expect. Some "circle" items are polygons in the 1" size (~ 2.54 cm), so the individual item is already less than the limits. The only issue to date has been in generating the densified "circle" polygons, where we had to write our own PL/SQL code to get good coordinates so they are round.
    Q: Is there a list of what the hard limit is of various platforms? Currently development code is all on SPARC 64, although we are strongly considering going to a Solaris Opteron CPU RAC server environment for production since a lot of operations are quite CPU intensive.
    Bryan

    Hi Bryan,
    Great question. As far as I know, noone has done a complete study. Oracle set the tolerance limit of 0.05 (5 centimeters) because that was the best available without various failure scenarios coming about due to precision issues on 32-bit platforms.
    If you are developing on a 64-bit platform and aren't seeing issues with such small geodetic tolerances, it doesn't mean you can work safely on a 32-bit platform with the same tolerance.
    I know this doesn't answer the question, but it is the best I can do. If you have some data and hardware you can prototype with, I'd suggest you go that route.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • Problems uploading files to various web browsers

    I'm having huge problems with uploading files to various browsers on my MacBook Pro (running Mac Lion OS X 10.7.5)
    My default web browser is Google Chrome but I have tried Firefox, Safari and Mail, too, and they're all presenting the same problem.
    The problem is that whenever I try to attach a document to an email in Gmail or upload a photo/file to any website - it just doesn't play ball. The web browser then becomes totally unresponsive (not loading new tabs etc.) and I have to Force Quit and start the application running again. When I tried this in Mail, the application actually crashed.
    I've figured out a way to get round the problem in Gmail - creating documents in Google Drive or simply dragging documents into the email - but I'm starting an online course soon and I really need to be able to upload documents, files, images etc.
    So far I have tried:
    Updating the software on my Mac
    Updating Google Chrome
    Uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome
    Signing in and out of Google Chrome
    Deleting all browser history on Google Chrome
    I've also figured out that it's not my firewall as I had an unrelated problem with that and it was taken down for around 24 hours to be fixed - I tried again to upload files in this 24 hour window and encountered the same problems.
    I'm also having problems with my Windows for Mac - whenever I try to Save or Save As in Word - the programme becomes completely unresponsive, parts of the toolbars at the top white out and I have to Force Quit - hence, why I started using Google Drive to create documents. When I try and Save or Save As in Excel or Powerpoint, these programmes crash too.
    I don't know if these problems are related, but I thought it best to bring it up just in case.
    Can anyone help me?!

    In answer to my own question, in case anyone has the same issue, the problem turned out to be that my hard drive is failing.
    If anyone has the same problem, back up all your data to an external device immediately (trying to run a computer on a failing hard drive is like trying to run on a broken leg, so I'm told) and take your mac to get a new hard drive - should cost around £100.

  • Increment the version and current date in .ver file

    Hi All,
    I have the version.ver file and it looks like
    [version]
    BuildDates=2014.10.01
    Script=01
    MainVersion=1.00.00.00:01
    I want to increment the values and current date if i trigger the build using batch script. The output i need is like this
    BuildDates=yy.mm.dd (current date)
    Script=02
    MainVersion=1.00.00.00:02
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your reply. This is my script
    @echo off>newfile&setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
    :: set up your date here. It probably won't match my format so you'll need to adapt:
    set dt=%date:~10,4%.%date:~7,2%.%date:~4,2%
    for /f "skip=2 tokens=2,3 delims==:" %%a in ("filename") do (
    set v= %%b
    set v= !v: 0=!
    set /a v+=1
    set v=0!v!
    set v=!v:~-2!
    >>newfile echo SCRIPT=!v!
    >>newfile echo BuildDates=%dt%
    >>newfile echo MajorVersion=%%a:!v!
    goto :aa
    :aa
    more +3 "filename" >> newfile
    del "filename"
    ren newfile "filename"
    Before execute the script my file will be look like:
    version]
    BuildDates=date
    Script=09
    MainVersion=3.00.00.00:09
    after executing i am getting the output value as
    BuildDates=date
    Script=01
    MainVersion=19:01
    MainVersion=3.00.00.00:09

  • File with various field lengths non - fixed cardinalities problem

    Hallo all,
    we have the following problem.
    we implemented a scenario as sown in this blog
    /people/venkat.donela/blog/2005/06/08/how-to-send-a-flat-file-with-various-field-lengths-and-variable-substructures-to-xi-30
    but there is a problem.
    If the file structure is declared as :
    Header,1,Items,*
    then the adapter does not even read the file from the directory (so I assume that for some reason the file structure is not as expected).
    If on the other had the structured is declared as :
    Header,1,Items,3
    everything works.
    Obviously though, this is not satisfying since we need variable cardinalities.
    Any suggestions and help is appreciated
    Thank you .

    Well, I will write the main tests we tried, in case that the situation could be cleared :
    I have a specific file in a standard directory, called xi_input. The file is edited straight into that directory, so there can't be filename errors etc.
    If the file is left empty :
    Nothing happens . No message of any kind in sxmb_moni/monitoring xml messages .
    If the file contains the following (data is random) , where 'H' is the key for the header and 'I' is the key for the items :
    H     20060403     16     3     316001     kapou     lalla     morellala     20060403     F3     23
    I     277101010     2
    I     277101011     3
    I     277101012     4
    There are to cases :
    if the file structure is declared as :
    Header,1,Items,*
    Then nothing happens .
    If on the other had the structured is declared as :
    Header,1,Items,3
    everything works .
    I guess there is now a more clear picture of the problem.
    As for whether the file adapter does care about the file contents or not, I think that if the Message Protocol is "Message Content Conversion", then it does check the structure.

  • Adobe 8.1.2 opens pdf file in various languages

    My HP Pavilion dv6000 running Vista Home Preimun with a HP Photosmart C5100 printer. Adobe Reader 8.1.2 opens pdf files in various languages. These files were sent in English and I can forward to others who use Microsoft XP and they do not have any problems opening these files. I have installed and uninstalled Adobe 8.1.2 (3) times with no change. I have confirmed that Word is the HTML eiditor preference. My fire wall and virus scans don't indicate any problems. What should I look at next? Is this an Adobe software issue?

    >graffiti - 8:09am May 25, 08 PST (#3 of 5)
    >All that is is a reader. Not a replacement for Acrobat.
    And it doesn't even work well with forms. Only allows the first page of a form to be filled out.
    I reported the problem as a bug, and the designer say its an apple problem. Its not. where area set up to be filled out on pages other than first page, there is an indication it is a fill-out area (Grayed out when clicked on) it does not allow for forms to be filled out. So its not worth the effort to even test.

  • 300 MB to 1.2 GB Forte log file automatically created

    General information
    ===================
    -One server: Windows NT 4.0 Server Enterprise Edition (service pack 6a), PC/x86, dual Pentium Pro 200 MHz.
    -Five workstations: Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (service pack 6a), PC/x86.
    -Forte 4GL 3.0.N.0.
    -SQL Server 7.0 (service pack 3), clustered.
    -Forte application partitioned into 1 server process (runs on server) and 1 client process (runs on all workstations).
    Has anyone seen this?...
    Problem description
    ===================
    About once per month, our Forte server partition log file grows to 300+ MB, and then the process crashes. This problem is not reproducible, and I don't yet know if there is any pattern in the sequence of events that leads to the error. All the log files appear to be similar because the traceback shows the same method.
    The error started happening after upgrading from Forte 3.0.G.2 to Forte 3.0.N.0.
    All of the client and server log files have the string "<unknown>" where the Forte environment name normally is. I believe that nodemgr.exe crashes, and usually it cannot be restarted. When the Forte Environment Manager is manually restarted, a Windows NT "Services" error window appears that says - "Could not start the Forte Environment Manager 3.0.N.0 service on \\SERVERA. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." Rebooting the server always recovers.
    Here is an example of the text extracted from one of the huge Forte log files...
    NOTE:
    -Some of the text lines may be wrapped (in the actual file, none of the lines are wrapped).
    -forte_ex_274.log was 263,119 KB.
    -The string "..." means that many lines are not included.
    -All hex values, except for addresses, have been changed to "0x00000000".
    -Note that "Page:45713 @ 0x02CA4400" is included, but appears to be empty.

    This appears to the general output generated when a partition gets a SEGV or AccessViolation type problem. The runtime code always performs a memory check to determine if a possible cause for the problem was a memory corruption. In this case it thinks it found a problem and is attempting to dump information related to the problem. There was a bug in this routine that caused to dump more stuff than was really needed (I believe that this was fixed in 5.0)
    The actual error was someone wrote a 0 on the header of an object that describes the size of the object. Given that this was the first object on the page it could be a problem with someone overrunning the end of an object on the previous page.
    This can either be a runtime problem or an application problem. Its a little hard to tell from this output. The best way to collect more information would be to install MSDEV/Visual Studio on the machine and enable
    JustInTimeDebugging (this is normally enabled for you) and then add the following environment variable
    FORTE_NOHANDLER=yes
    This bypasses the exception handling and causes the MSDEV debugger to start. This should allow you to get a stack trace which will give more clues as to the problem.

    Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
    My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
    They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
    However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
    I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
    So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
    At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
    All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

    Adobe Indesign can do this.  I'm sure a simple google search would find various Windows apps.
    You cannot submit books directly to Apple using a Windows machine, you would have to use an Aggregator like Smashwords. So you might want to see what format the Aggregator prefers.
