What good is a forum that locks most of the threads?
Many posts about signing up for a windows 7 upgrade, (locked I might add) but has anyone actually received one?
I signed up over a month ago and they have not even got around to sending it yet! In my opinion, this is unacceptable support.. HP knew this was going to be comming for a long time.
I really hate to be one of those folks that says "I'll never buy HP again", especially since my family owns 3 HP laptops.. but come on now.

I have now upgraded my MAC OS X LEOPARD 10,5,8 to new SNOW LEOPARD 10,6,2 and if some problems disappear I have a newer big one !
Now every time a Windows CLient try to connect to a SMB Share of SL server that take a long time about 10-15 seconds to open after that depending on client OS that could be nice for a moment (windows 7 and XP) or browsing stay very slow like for 2003 server connecting to Share on S.Leopard.
Could you please help me.
My SL are the main SMB share computer with all data it is connect like other clients to AD (SBS2003).
I have a SBS2003 server that are Master of Domain
and a Server 2008 acting like Terminal Server also member server of domain.

Could you help me to troubleshout that problem ?

So when you put 2 computers of your network in WORKGROUP in place of DOMAIN the 38 others works fine ? Strange ?
I have about 15 computers, some are already in workgroup other are linux smb other MAC, the data server are MAC OS X SL, the problem appear for all windows machines, I have try to dissable NTLMV2 and Kerberos since it is probably the faulty element with opendirectory,but always without success !
I don't know what I can do to trouble shout, I hope next release 10.6.3 come soon and correct about all SMB problem ! Probably a dream only ! Since I ask my self if Apple want to correct something andwhy is this problem let without solutionso long ! For a company it is a big problem.I suppose that Apple never read this forum and never answer our problem ! May be I should contact the support phone to be helped !

HP 320-1030 WINDOWS 7 TOUCHSCREEN SOFTWARE AND WINDOWS 8 UPGRADE

Just purchased an hp 320-1030 touchscreen with windows 7 operating system. The advertisement was that you could upgrade to windows 8 for $15 and HP would refund the $15.00
When you read the upgrade information it states that HP Touchsmart applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and must be uninstalled before upgrade.
The Windows 7 touchscreen came with the following touchscreen applications:
HP Touchsmart 5.0
HP Touchsmart Music
HP Touchsmart Browser
HP Touchsmart Web Cam
Canvas
HP movie store powered by Roxio Now.
Is Windows 8 going to provide Replacement applications that will function as well ?
A Little help on staying with Windows 7 for an HP Windows 7 Touchscreen or upgrading for Windows 8.
If I knew about these limitiations I would have waited for a HP Windows 8 touchscreen.

Upgrade of HDD and Windows 7

I'm new to this forum and not real technical. I have read several threads about replacing hard drives, but due to my insecurity relative to my technical skills, would like confirmation of my plan...
Currently have 2 Thinkpads (T61-Vista/R61-XP downgrade from Vista). I want to upgrade both to Windows 7 and at the same time install a larger hard drive. Looking at WD 320GB 7200 RPM drives w/ the fall sensor or 500GB 5400 RPM.
Here's my plan and would appreciate feedback as to whether this will work or if there's an easier way to do this, as well as any gotchas to look out for!
1. Backup my data to an external drive - I have lots of documents/pictures, a little video and iTunes. I will run System update prior to this -- not sure if that is necessary or not.
2. Remove the current drive and install the new HDD.
3. Power it up, use my recovery CD I made when I received my Thinkpad to load Vista on the new hard drive. Assuming I will be prompted to format the drive, drivers will be loaded as well as Thinkvantage Technologies, correct?
4. Perform System Update through Thinkvantage technologies....
5. Pop the upgrade version of Windows 7 in my CD drive and do the upgrade
6. Load my applications, backed up data, etc.
One other elementary question.......When I order the 320Gb drive, I don't need to order any other enclosures, etc. -- all I do is pop that into my laptop, correct?
My simple little brain thinks this shouldn't be that difficult a process, but "I don't know what I don't know."

How to stop? Obviously the internal temperature is too high and therefore the unit shuts down.
Why the temp is too high? Well, either the cooling modules cannot cool down the internal parts (CPU and GPU) properly or these parts (GPU and CPU) produce too much of warmness.
1) Cooling modules:
In case the dust and debris prevents the cooling fans from rotating faster, the temperature would increase and notebook would shut down. You should ensure the cooling modules are free of dust and that fans can run with bets performance.
In Windows Power Management settings you could set the cooling method to performance. Using battery optimized setting, the fans would rotate slower but this would increase battery working time.
2) You could decrease the CPU performance. This can be done in Windows Power Management too. You can set the CPU max performance to 80-70%
Another solution: try to use some external cooling pads. There are many devices on the market which could cool down the notebook from the bottom side.

New Satellite L50-C - wont allow updates and windows 10 upgrade, keeps asking to restart

Hi, hope someone can help:I picked up a new laptop yesterday with windows 8.1 installed and followed the prompts to upgrade to windows 10. The computer downloaded what I presume were the updates for 8.1 to get it up to date before starting the windows 10 installation. It has also downloaded the data for the windows 10 upgrade as I am now getting the prompt telling me the upgrade is ready to install.However, when I click on 'start the upgrade now' in the windows 10 upgrade box the laptop just restarts and boots back up to a windows 8.1 login. Once logged into desktop Windows Update opens up and tells me that I need to restart to complete install of updates. I click on the restart and the computer restarts but with no message telling me during the restart process that updates are installing as you might usually expect. The boot-up then bring me back to the same point (login screen, then win8.1 desktop and Windows update again popping up asking for a restart). I have followed these prompts and done several restarts thinking that it is working through bringing the updates in one by one however the update list doesn't vary when I check: I ran the troubleshooter for update and got the following message: However even after doing this a couple of times I still have the same problem. After reading up on these forums and elsewhere I tried running sfc/scannow (no issues detected).Can anyone help?

Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade

I have a few questions regarding Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade (should be generic questions that apply to other models as well):
1# Will the Windows 10 update and activation change in any way the Win8.1 OEM serial key stored in BIOS? Is there any chance that any software changes that BIOS OEM key (like malware or similar)?
2# After updating to Windows 10, if I put the USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1), will I be able to restore the Win8.1 version (factory restore), and successfully activate it and use it without issues?
3# On a clean drive (without any partitions, like for instance if I buy a new one), if I use the same USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1) to do a factory reset, will it re-create all partitions, including the recovery partition one?

1) Run the Win 10 installation and choose "Upgrade Windows" option. Windows 10 will be installed and it will be activated.
The chance of any software changing the OEM key is insignificant.
2) Yes, you can recover Win 8.1 successfully. No need to activate it, it will be auto-activated.
3) I dont have experience with this but reading around the forum I have seen that using a recovery drive on a new HDD may not install windows and re-create partitions.
The recovery partition is the hardest to re-create on a new HDD, even you are able to re-create it the NOVO button usually doesnt work.

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and '''Run as administrator''' to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any '''Mozilla''', '''Mozilla Firefox''' or '''Firefox''' from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the '''Run''' box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the '''VirtualStore''' folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

Windows 8.1 upgrade suggestions:
There are some important steps to take prior to doing the upgrade. Review this MS posted document. Be sure to run the upgrade assistant.
Be sure that Windows 8 has all of the latest MS updates installed. There are prerequisite patches that are required.
Be sure that you have at least 40 GB of hard disk free space.
Back up your data to external media.
Make a Windows 8 recovery media to external media before doing the upgrade. I prefer to use a third party hard drive imaging program.
Temporarily disable the antivirus software.
You will need to reinstall your programs after the upgrade so make note of which ones are required.
Check the HP Support site for Window 8.1 updates for your particular PC. If you don't see any updates then your PC has not been tested/certified with Windows 8.1.

I've been running 64-bit Windows 8 Consumer Preview very nicely for several months and want to upgrade to 64-bit Windows Pro on my Pavilion a1440n. When I've tried to install from within the OS I get weird messages indicating that it can't be installed on a USB Flash drive (which I'm not trying to do). When I tried doing a clean install I got an odd message saying that certain installer files were missing and it would not complete. I called Microsoft customer support and the agent there thought my cpu would work because it wouldn't support Hyper-V, even though I understand that it optional. From running coreinfo.exe I can see that I have the PAE, NX, and SSE2 on the cpu enabled as meets requirements.
When I ran through th HP site I saw that this machine has not been tested. Is there any way of getting confirmation that Windows 8 Pro 64-bit will or won't run on my machine? The HP Product code for it is ER904AA#ABA.

Upgraded to Yosemite and Windows 8.1 Pro in Bootcamp, can no longer drive retina display and two external monitors simultaneously?

I just upgraded from Mountain Lion and Windows 7 Ultimate (Bootcamp) to Yosemite and Windows 8.1 Pro on a late 2012 MBP 13" Retina. Prior to the upgrades, I was able to drive the retina panel and two external monitors simultaneously when operating directly in Bootcamp. Now, I can only drive 2 of the 3 simultaneously though all three are recognized under Graphic Properties. I simply cannot find any option or profile under Graphics Properties or Options or Personalization to run all three screens.
My hardware hasn't changed and this worked prior to the updates. I have no issue on the Mac OSX can run all three. I also have no issue doing it in Windows under Parallels Desktop 10. It is just when I boot directly into Bootcamp that this happens. What am I missing?

Great point, Loner T. It was late when I was working and I thought about this afterwards also.
The issue was that in Windows=>Control Panel=>Display, under "Change Display Settings", the three screens showed but "Extend Display" was not selected for one of the screens. It was simply off. I can't believe I danced around this w/o picking it up sooner. In fact, it has happened in the past that for some reason a display loses this setting.
As an aside, thanks again for all of your help and terrific input to upgrade both the Mac and Windows operating systems. As I was going from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8.1 Pro, one thing I did come across that made life much easier was to upgrade first to Windows 8 so I could keep my apps. The jump from 7 to 8.1 would otherwise migrate my personal files, but not programs and require a lot of time to reinstall all. This was completely avoided by going to Windows 8 first.

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.

I've downloaded the Window support option software and the WindowSetupBox.exe and copied it to the USB drive. I tried to create an iso image from my Windows XP machine but recieved messages that Windows 8.1 could not run on XP. I've ordered the Windows 8.1 backup media.
Any way to proceed?

10.5.7 upgrade and windows log in errors

Hope someone can give me some feedback
I am running an Intel X-Serve which has been happily serving Mac's and Window's box's for the best part of a year. I upgraded the server to 10.5.7 over last weekend and all seemed good on Monday however yesterday several users ran into issues between log in and getting to the desktop.
The Wintel box's are all linked to the server via SMB and login to a domain, and the X-Serve is the only server on the local network.
Either the Windows box (All XP) could not copy files from the server and came up with an Error performing inpage operation. Or it could not load the roaming profile, either way Windows loads a temporary local profile for the user.
This is not all users just a handful
I have traced the issue to the users folders in /Users/profiles on the boot drive.
This issue seems to be how Windows syncs the info in the profile folder with the desktop.
Has anyone suffered this issue and knows a solution or workaround that does not involve me deleting the user off the server completely and rebuilding them at both the server and client ends? The profile only holds windows info, all files ( or at least they should be) are in home folders away from the users profile, so this is about allowing windows to log back into to the correct user on each Wintel box.
Any help would be appreciated

Have you had any luck fixing the issue? I have 7 new Mac Pros running 10.5.7 and 42 new PC's with XP/SP3 and am having the profile sporadic corruption problem as well. Can't seem to find any information. Our previous 10.4 servers and last set of XP machines never had this problem.

I want to upgrade to Lion and Windows 7. Can I perform upgrades without messing the current partions up? I know I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, then Lion. When I do these upgrades, does it affect the boot camp side? Do i upgrade the Boot camp side separate from Mac side? Can i upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate without upgrading the Mac side?
