Forum connexion problem

Hi,
Since the last week I'm facing connexion problem to the Forum.
Error page 404, 502, website unavailable and so on, are very often the page which I get whenever I try to get a page Forum (database general, installation etc.).
This problem exists through a proxy, but still exists without proxy (direct dsl connexion).
Is there any network problem on Oracle ?

All the Oracle sites, OTN, tahiti, etc, I have used over the past couple of days have been available, but the forums have been mostly down.
The unavailability has been almost on a magnitude with the upgrade many years ago, when the forums were totally gone for about a week and came back with the orange read blobs, watches and the permanent email feature. I am not sure but I think that is when powered by Jive software also appeared at the bottom.
Having taken a look at their site it appears they have taken a very simple concept, web forum, and over engineered it, while agonizing about whether people might want to change email address at some point. I am not sure powered is the right word to use here, weakened or undermined might be more appropriate.
Of course they make a big deal about it being all Java, which is probably why it was chosen. If Java is not the worst programming language invented, it certainly seems to be responsible for most of the worst applications.
The sad thing is most web forums seem to use PHP and, heaven help us, MySQL and provide a much better, feature rich and solidly reliable experience.

Keithley connexion problem with MAX

Hi everybody,
I have a problem finding a Keithley device in LabView Measurement and Automation Explorer (Max, version 4.6).
I have entered all necessary network parameters in windows (ip adress, subnet mask, etc...) and if I ping the Keithley through the windows command box, I get an answer, so no connexion problem. But when I want to add it in Max, automatic detection doesn't work, and if I enter the ip adress manually and validate I get an error message saying that the device cannot be found and containing the Visa error code 0xBFFF0011.
I have also tried to add it with a raw socket using the port number that I find in the Keithley, it still doesn't work... The most puzzling is that I have another PC running under the same OS, with the same version of Max and the same parameters, and it works on this pc!!
Please help me, I'm getting desperate...

As you say the same instrument works with another computer, have you checked if the firewall configuration is the same on both computers?
Did you try to connect your instrument directly to the computer through a local nertwork?
DO you have the same version of the NI-VISA drivers on both computers?

For Forum Admin: Problem with this forum editor

The editor has been adding spaces in words for a while. Is there a way to correct so that our code appears properly?

Yeah, I've been struggling with this new forum, too. I've been using NNTP for so many years that I can do it in my sleep. Web Forums will *always* be slower than NNTP. It's just a fact of the implementation.
But, I am slowly coming around. Here are some things that I have learned:
Start by going to Your stuff > profile > Preferences. Change the View to "Threaded" so you can easily see what the poster was replying to if they didn't quote anything. Make sure your Time Zone is correct (mine wasn't). Subscribe to email for threads you create and respond to. You can also subscribe to email for any thread by clicking on "Receive email notifications" on the right side when reading a post. I still do all of my reading via the Web Forum interface, but receiving email notifications is enough of a time saver for me that it makes up for the slowness of the Web Forum.
I tried to get my picture to show up by adding a picture to my profile, but I discovered that you have to create an avatar.
I haven't figured out how to search these forums with google, but the builtin search works much better than anything I have ever used in any NNTP news reader.
The only implementation problem that I have found to far is that the "Next" button has stopped working a few times. Closing the browser and starting with a new window seems to fix that.

Netopia Router WiFi-connexion problem solved on MacBook Pro!

Hi folks!
I'm the owner of a MacBook Pro 2.33GHz since last March, and since then, I've been unable to connect my MBP to a Netopia 3347W wireless modem/router. It kept telling me that there was an error trying to connect to the local network. I had tried with or without any WEP or WPA, I had tried almost every single workaround I had found on the net or on this Apple Forum, and nothing did the trick. I have to precise I could connect without any problem to all the other WiFi-networks I found to date, except that at my relatives' house. 2 different Linksys were ok, a Motorola was ok, even at the University I could connect to all the WiFis I found. And the issue with the Netopia router was known.
I was almost desperate and thinking about buying a new router or so, and today, thanks to the
MacOS X 10.4.11 update
everything works as if it always had! I could (finally) connect, even with WEP encryption, and the signal is excellent!
So, you folks (and I know there are a lot!) having problems with WiFi on your MBP, try to upgrade to 10.4.11 and give some feedback! Let's see if they finally did it!

Connexion problem with Panasonic DV-PAL camcorder

I have a problem to have FCE HD 3.5.1 or iMovie 5 recognize my camcorder since I updated to MacOS X 10.4.11 from 10.4.10. At the startup of FCE the message "cannot find the Apple FireWire PAL (720x576) driver" appears and the application does not recognize the camcorder. iMovie cannot recognize it either.
I have read on the forum that some people already had this kind of problem with the firewire when they switched to 10.4.11. Do you know how to solve it ? May it work better with Leopard?

I don't have another firewire device connected to the computer. From the history of updates I can see that the first one for QT was an upgrade to version 7.0.3 in November 2005 (together with an upgrade to OS X 10.4.3), but I can't remember whether it was an upgrade from QT 6 or 7. The update of OS X was from 10.4.0 because it was upgrading from the original PowerBook G4 CD install.
When you say reinstall QT, do you mean removing it and reinstalling it completely?

Forum Cache problem

Our EP6SP21 Forums mod is giving the following cache related problem:
2007.11.19 10:41:35 Cache: TinyMCE Cache -- object with key advancedenjivequote,jiveemoticons,jivespell,pasteen0false is too large to fit in cache. Size is 207429
I guess this is also the reason why spellcheck is not working ?
I've un-succesfully played around with the cache settings.

Another way is resetting Bridge Preferences. Try this out.
Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.

Forum technical problem

I think after upgradation of this forum few days back now this forum is very slow and also some time it is not accessible due technical problem. Does any one experiencing similar problem?

I get exactly the same problems.
The time to go to a post is noticably slower. Some times I can get a cup of coffee before it has completed.
On average there are 2 times a week that the service is not available due to technical problems.
Maybe we could get some information from one of the Oracle people.

Forum layout problem?

Is anyone else having problems with the forum layout? Mine suddenly changed a day or so back, and is missing tabs, and there is some text overlap (see encircled text in image).
I had DPReview go weird on me some months back, and strangely, when I asked on that forum, only other people in New Zealand were having the same problem. In fact it might have been people using the same ISP as me.

I was surprised they would take it offline during the day today, or even risk the upgrade yesterday, given that Photoshop CS6 is being released today.
I can't say I think it looks much worse, but I think it WORKS worse than its predecessor - primarily because of missing or broken features...

Why is the font different in the editor than when the message is posted?

Forum "Handle" problem

I have a problem with my forum handle. It was Joel_C this morning but appears to have reverted to a numeric equivalent. When you attempt to edit your handle in the profile editor, the handle appears as it ought to.
Is anyone else having this trouble?

It's a known problem that happens occasionally.
The loss is not permanent, your handle will return once the necessary server/service is back to normal.
hsawwan is being 494875.BluShadow is being 452534. is about that problem, for example.

Discussion Forum Portlet - Problems with JAVA and UTF8?

I installed the Discussion Forum Portlet successfully. It also seems that almost everything works fine. There's only a problem if I have new posts that include special German characters (Umlaute) like ä, ö, ü or special French characters like é, è or ç. They are saved correctly in the table but if you view the post the characters are not displayed correctly.
Example
input: ça va?
result: Ã§a va?
I know that there are problems with Java and UTF8 Database. Is there a possibility to change this (bug)?

HP 8500 serious wireless connexion problem

Hello. I have a real problem with the wireless connexion of my HP Pro8500 0909g, I already spent 2 days with the french hp hotline, but it remains unsolved :-(
I am using XP and connected wireless my brand new HP8500 0909g 2 weeks ago and it worked fine !
When I got back from vacations, It seems that the wireless communication was not possible to found by the PC :
On the PC's side, The network configuration program seems to be unable to locate the printer
On the printer's screen, The wireless network is perfectly identified, returning a "OK" status
The printer said that the Wi-fi connection was OK, and thus, the router recognised... but the PC installation software said that no configured printer has been found !
I reinstalled 2 times (with both firewall and antivirus turned Off) but always getting the same result.
I followed the advices of the french HP helpdesk team and removed completely my Avast antivirus and did the installation again, but without a better result.
(I did connected the printer with the USB wire and it works fine... but I need to get back the wireless connection).
Could you please help me ?

- concerning the access to the IP address via the browsing page, I would say NO, because the installation program do not allow me to complete then (re)installation because he do not recognise any wireless printer around
- the IP address of the computer is : 192.168.1.1
- the IP address of the printer is : 192.168.1.4
- The IP address 192.168.1.3 is used by a dreambox
- The modem router is a : Philips (Belgacom) ADSL - WIRELESS model 6500/18
- The computer is connected to the router via a rj45 cable (im a not sure of the cable's name)
I remeber you that everything worked correctly during 15 days.
When I got back from vacations, the PC was not able to recognize the wireless printer.
As far as i see the situation, The only possible changes that could have occured when I turned on my PC after 15 days, are :
Microsoft's automatic windows xp updates or the Iolo's system mechanic automatic cleaning routine.
A driver can sometimes "dissapear" or be damaged... and I really though that a simple re-installation would have solved the problem... but as the installation program is not able to recognise the printer, while the printer is perfectly able to regonize the modem-router, i really dont know how to proceed. Maybe some programs will need to be completely removed ?

Connexion problems to POP server with mail but not Thunderbird...

Hello guys !
I have a problem with the server of my lab.. the connexion between Mail and the server doesn't work any more (used to work very nice a few weeks ago) and Mail say that the connexion to port 995 or even 110 was not possible because of a delay... do you know something new about such a problem ?
fact is, it works on thunderbird with the same settings and works sometimes with Mail on the WE (maybe there are less people using the server and it is more rapid ?) and it works all the time from my home...
Any idea about this problem ?
I had an answer on a Mail topic from somebody :
"In your case it definitely sounds like an issue of high traffic on the network (working on weekends, intermittently from home, etc.). It sounds like higher-capacity network hardware or more available bandwidth are needed. Mail.app might be more sensitive to dropped packets or slow connections; I don't know if that can be changed via a config file. You might try posting a separate post to get help from some folks who might know."
maybe his answer is of any help for someone who knows about all this...
Does somebody have an idea why thunderbird works and not Mail.app ? Is there something to do ?

the settings in Tbird are simple connexion to internet, no proxy settings... and the port is simply 25...
what is strange is that Mail.app used to work in my lab without a problem... I think the lab network (it's a special network for laptops...) is too slow, because it works in the morning and during the week-end... is it possible to change the setting in mail for the connexion ?
i'm getting mad with this problem.
