    I partially agree and disagree.
I agree with concerns but disagree as it is causing a bottleneck for agility and effectiveness addressing user needs.
"A picture is worth a thousand words" (and pictures come in a file).
If we are concerned about disk space, then I feel we need to provision hard disk space and nourish the SAP Community Network to be effective and improved.
For example:  Business Objects products often deals with reports and users often enquiry ways to cleverly use our tools.
Imagine how unproductive users find the forum messages when everyone is trying to describe what they see in their screens.  And how much misunderstanding happened among all those involved in the discussion of the thread.
It didnt' take me more than a few months to realize that users are all crying out for ways to add a descriptive image into their forum message.
Some are clever and add a link to an external location, some leave their email addresses and some leave their phone numbers!
The other challenge is for Chinese,Korean and Japanese language users.  An Asian user seeking for help is unable to describe properly in a foreign language to gain visibility for wider audience, often they are not familiar with the naming of the functionality in english because he/she may never have seen the menus in English.
I recently observed a user describing a problem there were 14 notes back and forth for a very simple matter, it took 3 days.  I believe a screenshot with a red circle would have helped in one shot.
I suggest files to be allowed and filters put in place distinguishing file formats to allow right content.

    Hello
I am moderator of "community Help France" and I have creative suite CS4. I wonder if Adobe has an upgrad for moderators because I don't know how to moderate a version if I don't know them.
without upgrad, remove me as moderators because I will be useless ...
I Call adobe France without solution and tchat with Adobe through the pages of moderators also unresolved ...

    Hello
So far, no sign of life from Adobe France ... I made some tutorials for CS4 (videoto brain, Adobe Tv), I manage web forums whose "repaire numérique" (www.repaire.net ) especially those whose adobe and it is unfortunate, the little consideration for its Adobe representatives but it doesn't matter, I spend on something else.

Unfortunately, no Sanyo phones are iSync compatible so you will not be able to synchronize your Contacts and Calendars with the phone.
Also, you may have problems with the Bluetooth adapter you purchased, as the only one officially supported by Apple for use with Macs is the D-Link DBT-120.
The Official Apple list of iSync compatible devices is here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
It's always a good idea to check this list before purchasing a new phone.
Other phones are supported by third party plugins from here and here. But still no Samsung, Sanyo, LG etc. who all use thier own proprietary syncing protocols rather than the industry standard SyncML. These manufacturers also don't provide Mac software with their phones like the do for Windows users.
I'm afraid you're not going to have much luck if you stick with the Sanyo. I would seriously consider taking it back and swapping it for one of the handsets on the above linked pages. Personally I would recommend a Sony Ericsson model. I've always had excellent Mac compatibility with those.

  • Requesting advise from fellow Forum Members

Unfortunately my Grandmother is starting to lose here memory in old age.
She lives closeby, but alone and is visited by carers and family members five times a day.
At the moment she is prone to ringing random telephone numbers saying that she needs taking home; even though she's already there. They are usually local numbers that are similar to family members' numbers.
A stranger to the family received a large number of calls in a very short space of time and was good enough to contact the police. We would ideally like to bar all outgoing calls; except those to close family members landlines so this can stop. We cannot bar everything as she could need to contact us in an emergency.
We cannot take the phone away as she has a push-button alarm which alerts the carers and results in them ringing the house.
Do BT offer this sort of service ? Effectively no bar on incoming calls but a partial bar on outgoing ones ?
    Solved!

  • Beginners Forum perhaps needed

    Hi everybody
First a Happy New Year to everyone.
Recently there seems to be a huge tendency on these Forums for a large number of really basic questions such as I'm the Logistics manager but I don't know what MARA does, or "could you please post the code" for some very elementary problem that a beginning abapper on day one could have coded in 5 mins.
Most of these posters appear judging by their names to come from the Indian sub continent (or related countries).
We all have to learn somewhere but some of the questions are actually so basic you have to wonder if the posters have ever actually used a SAP system.
If these guys are genuinely working at customers sites I would suggest that the whole "Offshoring" exercise is going to be a total and unmitigated disaster.
Overseas Telephone call centres for example have provoked such an outrage in the UK that companies are now advertising the fact that they ONLY use UK call centres in spite of the higher cost.
I think the same thing will happen with a lot of I.T offshoring - the cost savings and efficiencies promised just don't appear in practice.
However to get back to the point I think a  Real Beginners Forum perhaps could be a place where these really elementary questions could be posted without problems elswhere on other Forums.
    Cheers
    jimbo

    Hi Jimbo:
Even when I hate those kind of "super newbie" questions...That's a natural thing on a forum like this...People can do that for a couple of reasons...They are really dumb to lie on their resumes and need help, or they are just point hunters...Anyway...It's hard to tell, so we can't do much about it...
The "Newbie forum" thing had been proposed too many times, and it's an option, because people are going to keep posting whenever they want...We had a Form Printing Forum, but some people post on Scripting Languages and ABAP forums instead...
I'm sure that you had seen the "Report Abuse" icon...Well, you and other SCN members must it to help us (The Moderators) to keep track and manage those kind of questions...
    Greetings,
    Blag.

I'm equally he had a legitimate reason for voicing his concerns in what I consider to be a very diplomatic way. Although I haven't seen unilateral thread closures myself, they must happen. In a way, all Markoul has re-iterated is a self-obivous need for respect between all on this forum - perhaps something that didn't need to be re-iterated.
The only reason that I'm posting this is that I have to say that I was a little disappointed with the initial reaction to this post. Reading between the lines, and perhaps Deathstalker didn't intend this, it says that 'Any dissent from a newbie will not be tolerated'. Surely criticism, as long as presented in a constructive, respectful form, is only a good thing?
Finally, I appreciate that moderators perform their duties completely free of charge and with no real recompense - Deathstalker made this worryingly clear. So clear, in fact, that could sound as if it were a chore. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but praise for moderators - I appreciate the time they spend doing what they do; I also must say I haven't seen anyone directly insult or offend a moderator. It all comes back to Markoul's original point - although the moderators are an incredibly important part of the forum; indeed, they keep it running, it is the members, especially newbies, who are the life of it. That respect and goodwill should flow both ways (like in the last post) is restating the obvious.
    Take it easy,
    Richard
    gomeztrombone,
I have read this thread over and over again and can not find any reference from Richard (Deathstalker) saying that any dissent from a newbie will not be tolerated. These moderators seem to me to be very tolerant, much more so then I am. Usually the only way a thread is removed is if the member is using abusive language or is purposely attacking another member in a verbally threating way. If you haven't seen anybody directly insult or offend a moderator then you need to spend more time here. Markoul even though he has been a member for a very long time made a deliberate attack on one of the MODS not (Deathstalker) and tried to bring him down through the rating system. It was a vengeful thing to do and Maroul has apoligized for it. Let dead dogs lie!

  • My external hard drive won't mount and shows a 'sibling link error'. I've seached the forums but need a very dumbed down set of tips for the computer illiterate- help?

The forums have suggestions on this topic but I don't understand the lingo used.

Remember card catalogs in libraries?   The computer has its own card catalog that tells it where all the files are.  That's known as the directory.
Sibling link error indicates something is wrong with one of the cards, making the computer lost.  Now the computer will put forth a bunch of gobbledy gook to fix this error, but you can do it.
Since the issue is with the external hard disk, you must select it with Disk Utility's First Aid selected.   There you will repair the disk.   If it can't repair the disk, you will need to use a more powerful tool.  The question is, is your data backed up elsewhere, or is it not?  If it is not, the same symptoms of a bad directory can also implicate a dying hard drive.  You'll want a data recovery tool if you aren't backed up.  If you are backed up, and there is nothing that can't be replaced on that external hard drive, get Alsoft Disk Warrior.  This should fix most bad sibling link errors repair disk can't.  When it can't, you can give up on the external hard disk.
P.S. Permissions has NOTHING to do with the directory.  Do not worry about issues with permissions or attempting to repair it at this stage.

  • {Edited per forum guidelines} Need assistance NOW‏

    Best Buy
    I am appalled by the lack of empowerment your associates are given. After an hour of being told "no" by your in-store associates about a replacement phone which was approved for junk out replacement, I now have to deal with the product being shipped to my home. The subject line order number was shipped with UPS and delivery was attempted today. I am not home during the day because I WORK FOR A LIVING. Tracking number {Edited per forum guidelines}
After contacting UPS, they state only the shipper can change the terms for package to be held at a UPS facility for pick up. I called 888-best-buy and am now told UPS will not allow them to change the terms to be held at my local UPS facility. They tell me I MUST wait another 5 days until UPS makes 3 delivery attempts and then is obligated to hold for 7 days. I do not want to and cannot wait that long.
I should have been made whole the day I went to the store to pick up a replacement phone. I begrudgingly accepted it to be shipped to me and now look at where I am. I use this phone for my job and this is unacceptable. I need someone to take action immediately and have UPS hold the package. I also suggest changing your UPS contract to give your associates the ability to make this change.
Who is going to fight for their customer's satisfaction and do everything they can to keep business profitable? Anyone care enough?
    Anthony {Edited per forum guidelines}

    Good afternoon Anthony,
Having been without a phone for quite some time before due to theft, I know all too well the inconvenience of being without a working phone. It seems that we were able to provide you with a new phone under your Geek Squad Protection plan, which I’m glad to hear. Although it also seems we weren't able to provide you a replacement immediately in store, leading us to order one for you.
After three failed delivery attempts, packages are typically sent back to the sender. When we receive items back, we would process a return and refund to the original form of payment. When placing an order, if you may not be available for the delivery, especially if the package would require a signature as it would for some cell phone orders, you may choose store pickup to avoid the item being returned to us due to failed deliveries. We typically hold items for 8 days before canceling the order and processing a refund. For more information on store pickup, you can visit the Store Pickup page on BestBuy.com.
Using the information you provided, I was able to locate your order and see that it is on the delivery truck for a second attempt at delivery today. Unfortunately, we cannot modify orders in the way you are requesting. I apologize if this has caused you any inconvenience, as I can understand why this may be frustrating. I will be keeping an eye on this order, and should this order be sent back to us, I will work with you to see what options we have for you at that time.
If you should have any questions, please let me know.
    Sincerely,
    Tasha|Social Media Specialist | Best Buy® Corporate

  • I want to create a mysql and php forum.. need advice

    Hi,
I want to create a forum to put on my site.. it doesnt have
to be very complicated - it can be as simple as this one
    http://boards.gapyear.com
    http://boards.gapyear.com but
I want it to be fully integrated into my site (so would prefer not
    to use phpbb etc).
I'm using phpmyadmin and Im not too hot on mysql or php (but
am willing to learn!) so was wondering if anyone knows of a really
good tutorial to talk me through the processes of setting up such a
    forum?
    Would appreciate any advice.

The people who make the free forums (phpBB or SMF for
    example) do it for
free in there own time and are experts in there field. They
    need to be,
forums are complicated and prone to being hacked, so security
    is your
    number one concern.
Most can be integrated into your site with a bit of work, but
    thats much
less work than creating your forum.

  • Contacting Forum Members

Hello. I want to ask someone a few questions, but I am unable to find a way to contact them.
Is there a way to contact members in this forum (using private messages or similar ways)?

Speaking of which, I cannot find your email address in your profile, as you had suggested to me, a brody.
Sorry our discussion was deemed "off topic" and removed.  I thought you raised some cogent points and that my replies resolved some commonly held false beliefs about it.  Would have been informative by the few others who still are misinformed.
It will come up again and perhaps then the points will stick

  • Must install for all forum members

Hi everyone! Mods please move if I'm in the wrong forum?
Lenovo have launched a new laptop T Series I think that has a 'find my laptop' facility. But for the rest of you with older machines, please do not gut your lives as mine has been done unto? Do no procrastinate! Follow my suggestion. Do it now, while you can.
My new Z was stolen on Comrades Marathon day in S.Africa. My business in jeopardy as nothing had yet been backed up. This is why I refer to it as 'gutting ones life'. On the Monday after I found out that 3 laptops had been taken in that one day at the same shopping centre. Two of them Lenovos (they get sold at a taxi rank for ZAR50 or USD12!, this is for a ZAR 9000 machine!).
There are 2 very helpfull software packages that you can get:1) is a look for me type thing that traces the computer whenever it logs onto the net. 2) The other uploads photos at 15 min intervals of the person using the web on your computer. Choose one, choose both but install them. Google stolen Lenovo, you will see the agony of people wordwide. It is worth it to do.
My aim is to buy this new T series or whichever it is, if I can survive & resurect my ailing company because of the lost data. Obtaining a 'look for me' is - to me anyway, the most important & first consideration I will choose my next machine by.
Regards & 'may the Lenovo always be with you'.

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the answers. Sounds like a very creative group.
Our brilliant in-house WebWorks administrator set things up to convert FrameMaker+SGML to Oracle Help. This works really well because:
    1. we type the help TopicID string into each FrameMaker+SGML Chapter-level and Section-level Id attribute. Each Chapter-level and Section-level group of SGML elements is converted to a separate help topic html file.
    2. each TopicID and html file name is added to the MAP file.
    3. each Id attribute value and the associated Title string convert to the TOC.xml entries
    4. the Id attribute value becomes the target (Linkend) of any FrameMaker+SGML, cross-reference....making it possible to convert FrameMaker cross-references to Oracle Help links
    5. cross-references to FrameMaker+SGML Glossary Term elements are converted to Oracle Help popups (and we assign the help TopicID for popups using the Glossary Term element's Id attribute)
    6. ALink group membership is established by putting the ALink group name into a hidden marker within the chapter/section where WWP can find it. We use an additional marker to designate the location where a text-string should become a link to display the list of ALink members in Oracle Help.
We have been able to automate all aspects of the conversion including the helpset, index, full-text-search, and link files.
Pete, would you be willing to share information about your in-house FrameMaker+XML and XHTML Converter tool strategy? Are you taking a similar approach?
    Best regards,
    Wendy

    Guilty as charged, Your Honor!
You make a good point, and I need to take it to heart more often. Sorry to be more trouble, than I am worth.
    Duly noted - thanks,

Yeah, but I think I've been a "bad, bad boy... "
Heck, you have enough to do around here, and the Encore forum. I should not give you more.

  • New Jdev forum categories needed?

I'm wondering if this forum needs to split into seperate categories? Some days you can post a question and by the afternoon or next day, it's moved 3 pages or more back and not answered. If you bump it to the first page by doing a dummy post you have a better chance of getting a response.
a couple of Jdev subforums could be:
    + ADF/UIX/Faces
    + JClient/ADF
    + Web Services
    IMHO..

I still agree with Brenden. JDeveloper is one of the most active forums on OTN, because it's a single forum for a developer tool which does everything. (a quick look and the only other 2 forums which attract so many posts are Development Suite->Forms and Database->SQL/PLSQL).
Cross posting is an issue, but if you look at the database forums, they split it up into "General" and then everything else (SQL, OCI etc). Why can't JDeveloper do the same such that posters who don't know where to post can put it in JDeveloper->General? Have a little faith that the posters know where to post as well (and besides cross-posting is an issue of all forum technology anyhow so don't avoid splitting the forums because of this issue alone).
And while I understand splitting the JDev forums up into separate areas creates more work for the JDev team in monitoring multiple forums, what about the hundreds if not thousands of us, your users, who have to search through all the 80000+ posts in the one JDev forum every day! Forums exist for us, as much as they do for you, so make it easier for us too please!
Even if you still disagree with us.... at which point will you change your mind? I note that depending on the search criteria supplied using the search util, that certain queries take ages to return results. Rather than searching the 80,000 posts, wouldn't splitting the forum up help with the speed issue?
Have a rethink please JDev team.
    Regards,
    CM.
