Forum Moderator

Hello mates,
Its been interesting to act as moderator, Can you any one provide me the roles of the moderator and who is eligible?
Edited by: CKPT on Feb 28, 2013 1:34 PM

I think the moderators are doing a sterling job in db general and pl/sql - spam has a very short lifespan. Would not specifically want the job myself. Will simply get in the way of my foaming at the mouth at inane code... :-)
I do moderate a dev mailing list though (nothing to do with Oracle) - but only as a mate and I originally started it 10+ years ago and I (my email addy) still own the list. But developers on the list are really well behaved. But then the subject matter is complex and a certain skill level needed before even looking at the list for getting questions answered.
The "+moderator+" though can be an interesting entity on a forum. Especially when it comes to blindly adhering to the rules (e.g. 2 tags lines verboten, despite it having less characters than most other posters's single tag line - got banned from Fido as a result), or pushing their own opinions and views and using moderator powers to "substantiate" that when challenged (thou shalt not prove a moderator's technical posting as being totally wrong - got banned from a couple of other forums for this).
Which is why I can think of a more than a couple of regulars that I do not want to see as mods, and why I'm very happy with the ones that are.

  • Forum Moderator Please help find my message

    Dear Forum Moderator:
Yesterday (09.20.08) I placed in the FLASH General Discussion
forum a message about problems in using Flash in my User's account.
I do not remember the exact title but there were words: user,
    account, counterproductive.
The message was authored by my screeen name Fonarik
I DID see this morning this my message, but after I signed
off and then back again I can NOT find it.
Please help to find it, as I hope to get help on my problems.
    Thank you

Not going to try to prove my point, just look at the obvious:
This is the NEWS READER screen, loading messages directly
    from the Adobe News Server.
View forum by user name, only two posts, the first one "Forum
    Moderator..." and
the reply to my post just now:

My news reader has copies of posts for past 3 years.
Then by browsing Web Based Forum, searching for all the
    threads by your user name:
    http://flashfugitive.com/stuff/sc_02.gif
Just one... in past 90 days...
Don't believe in "shoosh" conspiracy theories. Adobe (and
    previously Macromedia) never
suppress any posts. In fact they encourage posts dealing with
    all kind of issues because
it helps the tech guys to learn about problems they could
    over look during very compressed
    and short testing period.
You simply post it incorrectly and it never made to the
    forum. Just post once again
because no matter where you believe in, there simply isn't
any other, beside this one, posts
    from you on the forum.

  • Forum moderator needs CS6

    Hello
I am moderator of "community Help France" and I have creative suite CS4. I wonder if Adobe has an upgrad for moderators because I don't know how to moderate a version if I don't know them.
without upgrad, remove me as moderators because I will be useless ...
I Call adobe France without solution and tchat with Adobe through the pages of moderators also unresolved ...

    Hello
So far, no sign of life from Adobe France ... I made some tutorials for CS4 (videoto brain, Adobe Tv), I manage web forums whose "repaire numérique" (www.repaire.net ) especially those whose adobe and it is unfortunate, the little consideration for its Adobe representatives but it doesn't matter, I spend on something else.

  • Forum Moderator Response Please

    Greetings Forum Moderator,
Could you please explain why you remove my post/response to ovm 2.2 hard partitioning and licensing - getting my head around it! and why you did not remove the other response to ovm 2.2 hard partitioning and licensing - getting my head around it!
Please let me know why you remove all of my posts with links to my book and blogs, and why you allow other to post links to other content, i.e. from oracle, hp, other blogs, etc... but you always remove my posts with links to my book, blogs, etc....
Thank you for your support and great work with this forum!
    Respectfully,
    Roddy Rodstein
    [email protected]

    Roddy,
My frustration with people that paste incomplete responses
... and it's not just those few posts of yours but from a number of other people throughout all the many sub-forums...
is that people post a question and hope for guidance.
Responses are hopefully given so that the original poster and ANYONE ELSE that reads the thread in the future can get the assistance with what might be phrased as one-stop-shopping -- right there in the forum thread.
Your forum reply might prompt other people to recall an additional tidbit of help and they will add their reply to a thread and so on, and so on. In the end there is an almost complete solution to whatever issue prompted the initial post.
Think of these community forums as an imitation of a helpdesk from a support structure of a complex technical company. The sum total of all the thousands of posts and tens of thousands of replies create a knowledge base that complements the official knowledge base of the company.
I do look forward to you contributing to that knowledge base.

  • To Cert Forum Moderator : Please advice what I can resume my CertView.

    Hi Moderator ,
I'm so disappointed. Since this Thu, my certview account had rejected my login and requrie authorization verification agian !!
Ridiculous !!! Last time, certivew took more than 3 months to authorize my account and post OCM result to my cert history .
To Certification Forum Moderator  : Cert Update from CertView so slow
Thist time, I can't help to annoy. How long I must be held this time !!!
    Please give me some advices.

    Sean KTN,
I am glad your CertView issue is sorted out, could you please send a note to [email protected] anyway and let them know what happened, when it started and when it was resolved. Please give them as much info as possible, including your SSO info as well as your candidate ID. If there is a bug in CertView, we need to do a little research and get it sorted out. Please reference this thread in your email simply by stating that this is in reference to a thread on the OTN Forum that was refered to them earlier by Brandye Barrington and provide a link to the thread. This way, they will have some background info. It is often difficult to follow up on issues in the forum because we don't have all the candidate's info.
To the other candidate who was also having trouble with this issue. Please do the same.
Regarding the OPN Certified Specialist designation; unfortunately, this has been confusing from the beginning. There were also some issues with rules in CertView from the beginning. We hope that we have all the rules sorted out now. This would account for being "de-certified" on some of the OPN designations on some of your certifications. All certifications do not qualify for the OPN Certified Specialist designation - only certain, select certifications. You can find the qualifying list on our website here http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=342.
Regarding the OPN Certified Specialist certificates: in order to avoid too much more confusion, the decision was made to automatically send OPN Certified Specialist certificates only to candidates who obtain the qualifying certifications from December 1, 2009 (which is when the program was launched) forward. We will provide certificates upon request to candidates who had the OPN Certified Specialist added to certifications that were obtained before that date. What we wanted to avoid was randomly sending certificates to candidates who may not be aware of the program and adding confusion to a confusing situation. Please send an email to [email protected] and request to receive the OPN Certified Specialist certificates for your qualifying certifications. You may also want to confirm with the team your understanding of which certifications qualify so that you'll know what you are receiving.
We know that the roll out of this OPN program has been confusing and we hope to clear up the confusion more and more as we move forward. Thanks to all for your patience as we iron out the details!
    Thanks,
    Brandye Barrington
    Certification Forum Moderator
Certification Program ManagerThat's fine. Brandye, I've submitted the note to [email protected] already.

  • Is this forum moderated?

Is this forum moderated/monitored by a Sun representative?

While I agree that including a service wrapper for Windows would be useful, this functionality is not part of the product. The J2EE SDK is not intended for production use, but rather for development and testing purposes.
It appears that the Java Service Wrapper, which you apparently are familiar with, was used to wrap JBoss as a Windows service. I'd imagine the procedure do the same thing to the App Server's default domain is similar.

  • Getting error in Forum Moderator Summary

    Hi all,
I have configured Forum into portal. Created the iView based on the template (User, Admin, and Initial Admin view). All the forum iViews are working fine. I enabled the moderator for particular category
For egs: Root Category --> Travel (set moderator for particular user).
If anybody creating the new thread under that category the Moderator receives a notification here
Forum Admin iView --> Content -->  Moderation --> Moderation Summary
Moderator has option like as Approve, Reject, Defer and Edit anything can do, but once he Approvers then only that thread will publish in Forum User iView. This functionality is working fine.
If it has no notification of Moderator (no thread will create under that category)  that time if Moderator goes and checks here Forum Admin iView> Content>Moderation--> Moderation Summary, getting error as Object Required. on the line which is marked as bold in below function
    function setCurrentRow (index) {
        if (currentRow != null) {
            if (currentRow.index != index) {
                document.getElementById("mod-row-img-"+currentRow.index).style.visibility = 'hidden';

Yeah, same for me. For five days the forum has been messed up each day differently for me. Business card gone, points gone, control panel gone, badge gone... I wager the forum is being rebuilt. If not, there's something seriously broken :-D

  • How to become a Mozilla Firefox Support Forum Moderator.

I am very sorry to ask this here. I asked this here because I don't know where to ask. I am a Contributor in the Mozilla Support forum Top Contributors list. Many of the Top contributors are Moderators. I would like to be a Moderator too. However I don't know what to do to become a Moderator.

Even if the need is there, you might need more total support postings before being asked. I was coming here to contribute for over a year and a half ''(the first year was very infrequent, like once a week for a few hours)'', and had more than 1000 support postings before I was asked. The "counter" was reset with the forum software upgrade back in July 2010, so a lot of us have far more postings than shown now. My total was a shade over 30,000 before, and IIRC, '''co-rel''' had in excess of 100,000 at the end of July. Other contributors counts I don't recall.

  • To the Keynote Forum moderator

The Keynote Forum for about a week now has been performing very sluggishly: it frequently loads pages very slowly and sometimes not at all. I presume you already know about this, but I thought I should tell you that the problems still persist.
We all look forward to this problem being rectified as soon as possible.
    Thank you.

    Ron,
The entirety of discussions have been having problems recently. Things should be getting better soon, though.

  • OBIEE forum moderation

    Hi,
How does one go about becoming a moderator?
The OBIEE forum (Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition is in dire need of moderators, suffering from poor questions but even worse, terrible answers. It has become an echo chamber of mediocrity, with points being awarded by people who don't know any better. The result is posters with "guru" status dispensing awful advice and at times, plain wrong advice.
I and several others in the OBIEE world would like to help restore the forum to the level that it should be, to help cut down the poor quality answers, and as a net result improve the OBIEE online community overall. I have seen other forums on OTN that are of very high quality, such as the TimesTen one, and there is no reason why the OBIEE one couldn't be the same, with a bit of TLC and the odd pointy stick.
    thanks.

In general the moderators have been asked to do the job by the OTN admin. How we were selected... I'm not sure, I guess they just liked our virtual faces. :D
The forums will soon be getting an upgrade, and I know the admin are looking to review who's who and how many moderators they have etc. (I believe there should be people within Oracle itself who are responsible for some level of moderation of the various forums, so perhaps they'll be getting a kick).
I'll certainly highlight your request to the admin so they can take on board what you've said.

  • Forum Moderator request (Sticky Clean-up and FAQ refresh)

Considering the amount of Dolby/DTS Decoding and Encoding questions on this forum,?the questions related to the X-Fi Extreme Audio limitations, and the sheer number of stickies I think it would be helpful to clean up this forum. I would suggest:
. Global Multi-Channel Setup Guide (Includes Dolby Digital/DTS Connect config)
    2. Global Dolby Digital/DTS Guide (Includes Encoding setup/purpose/limits, Decoding (including models supported)
?? -On a side note, I think it would be very beneficial to disclose exactly why decoding was eliminated, as well as some high-
?? level information on the Dolby/Creative licensing relationship. Most end users expect things to 'just work', and don't
??understand the complexity of those kinds of relationshi

  • Hey Forum Moderator ... what happened to the link to Preference file location??

There used to be link to a document describing the location of the Preferences files for various different versions of LR and various different operating systems.
That link used to be right here on the main page of the Lightroom Forum, but it's gone now.
    Can we have it back?

You mean the Overview page http://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom?view=overview
I visit that page maybe once a month to remind myself where not to go for fear of getting lost.

  • Big thumbs up for the forum moderation team and of...

Can I just say if I hadn't of found this forum I feel that I would just be going round in circles all the time wasting BT's money on callout charges etc.
The team on this site are phenomenal and deserve recognition in every aspect. They are very polite , quick to act and listen to what you have to say and I welcome that as a customer.
Also thanks to the mods and Kerry we have had the fup raised higher for unlimited users by three times the amount it was before and option 2 of the BB package raised by double this just shows that they listen and act and for that I am very grateful.
Cheers guys your hard work doesn't go unnoticed big thumbs up from me.

I too would like to say a big thanks to the mod team - and especially Patrick Boyle, for helping resolve an issue for me. Well done, it is nice to see those green "solved" baloons popping up too.
