Forum module alternative?

My client uses the forum module in great frequency. We have set up new user registration with Recaptcha, but despite this the site is getting crushed with Spam.
We have it set to moderate all first time posts, so nothing is being seen live on the site.But the CRM is overloaded with spam entries, and the forum queue is flooded with spam posts.
The 'manage spam' tool is useless as it has yet to pick up one single spam post.
I have worked with support in great detail, they made efforts to help, but the best resolution I could get was 'wait till the next version of BC'. One support agent told me that no work is being done to improve the forum module. So at this point I am looking to dump the forum module for something else.
I am looking for alternatives to the forum module that can work within BC. A dream scenario would be to have access to the same forum tools as Adobe uses here. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi,
I actually found this:
The MIME headers of the payloads are searched in order and the system takes the first payload that meets the criteria. This payload is swapped with the application payload.
So I think you can specify any Attribute from the MIME header, that is always the same. Perhaps the content-type.

  • BC Forum Module feedback?

    Can anyone share their experience with using the BC forum module? Does it work and would you recommend it? Are there any known problems or issues with BC Forums that I should be aware of?  Any honest input would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi,
    The forum module is pretty solid if needing a straight forward community driven module.  There are a couple things missing which could be minor to most requirements such as the inability to (import/export forum/threads, private message, etc) but it comes down to your full requirements.
    Otherwise other more dedicated solutions like GetSatisfaction, Jive, etc might be the alternative option if needing a bit more advance features.
    Hope this helps!

  • How close is BC to making their Forum Module more current?

    What I mean by this is, I'd like for their forum module to have all the bells and whistles like most other forums: ability to add emoticons, create links within responses, post images via sites like photobucket, etc.
    I started creating a forum for my comic book art website and I'd like to create a community of like minded artists But the ability to post one's artwork seems to be limited to only copying and pasting images into the reply. This is actually kind of cool, but most forums allow you to paste img code links, type text and then link it, etc.
    BC's forum module is lacking in this respect.

    Hey there, short answer is - It is an older module, it has not been updated for years and there are no signs it will be updated any time soon.

  • Forum modules

    Hi
    Im going through the forum modules and plan to integrate a forum into my website, http://www.petshop-online.com.au/ .
    However, im looking for some inspiration and would like to see what is possible using BC's forum feature. Is there anyone who has used this feature and doesn't mind providing me a link to their website/clients website so i can see what it is capable of?
    Thanks in advance
    Jason

    Hey Jason,
    The forum feature is quite basic. The best way to see it is, if no one responds with a working forum, is to trigger a new full feature site and have a look at it.
    BTW, this site has several forums on it http://drwheatgrass.com/info/forums/default.htm

  • Urgent: Forum module for PHP/Oracle 8i

    I'm developping a PHP application over Oracle 8i where there is the urgent need of integrating a forum module. Does anyone know where I can buy a good one?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paulo Sousa

    I think the Invision Power Board supports Oracle, but you have to have a driver for it to work.

  • Upload photos along with post in Forums module?

    Have built a forum using the module, it doesn't seem that one can submit photos with the post. Is there a way around this? Are there known plans to integrate photo uploading?
    Thanks, Will

    Thank you Liam. Do you think it possible to build a Web App to replace the Forum module? Client wants logged in users to be able to create posts along with photos.

  • [SOLVED] Load module alternative

    Hello,
    I have small problems with one kernel module.
    What I want: load the nvidia_acpi_call module to deactivate my discrete graphics card
    from https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34499
    1st alternative: load the module in rc.conf
    Works, but I get dozens of error messages and long delays during boot
    see: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 66#p787566
    2nd alternative: modprobe it in rc.local
    Works, but upowerd goes up to 100% cpu usage afterwards.
    see: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 33#p994833
    They say that the module should be loaded after xorg to avoid this.
    3rd alternative: Load the module manually after system start
    I am doing that at the moment, but it is quite annoying.
    So do you have any other ideas?
    Thx!

    In e.g. rc.local, start a process that waits, e.g.: (untried crappy bash code ahead)
    (while [[ -z $(pidof -s /usr/bin/X) ]] ; do sleep 1 ; done && sleep 10 && modprobe whatever) &
    I added a "sleep 10" to give it time to settle - maybe needed, maybe not, but in case of doubt, I'd do it.

    Is there a way to just link to the forum register page?
    if so how?!
    Btw where can you find the bc docs? im really getting annoyed because i cant figure out just that simple stuff.
    - Rob

    Hi rob, If you go to the doc section of these forums:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/business_catalyst/documents
    You not only got good stuff in there but if you look to the right there are the linkes to the BC knowledgebase and some good 3rd party resources from people like BC Gurus and Simpleflame.

  • Forums module can you have a logging user return to where they were?

    If a non-logged in user is looking at forums topics and finds one they want to comment on. They are asked to log in but are jumped into the general secure zones user area. How can you have them return to the forum topic they were on? I have used a hack to give them a button to return to the page they were on but it only works 50-50 as the trick goes back to a page in a state before they were logged in so the browser doesn't always see them as logged in.
    My litte button script is below that just uses the browser history.  Any help would be great.
    I heard there is a tutorial in bcgurus i might look at later but if there is anything out there besides that I am all ears.    Retun to the Page I was at.                     Go BackGo back to where you were when you logged in.

    Does anyone have any advice for this? So far not having any luck.

  • Is there a way for people to sign into a forum with the same email they used elsewhere on the site?

    Right now, our site has to have a separate login for the forum that was built using the forum module. This poses a problem since users who sign up through other web forms that do not have username or password fields may try to sign in to the forum and then try to reset a password that does not exist. It also poses a problem in that people who are already in the CRM because they signed up using other web forms cannot use the same email address they used to sign up to register for the forum.
    We have also had the same problem with secure zones in that people who have already gone through a web form and have their name and email address in the CRM have issues signing in to the secure zone.
    So, I'm wondering if there is any way to fix this so that people can sign up using the same email address.
    Thank you for your assistance!

    lost mode don't depend of the sim card. If you take your Iphone on Lost mode... anybody can use it with the original card sim or with an other one.
    Did you try to localise it ?
    But hope that thief don't make a restore of the Iphone... Call your Mobile Operator to try to block the IMEI Number.

  • Help with secure zone/ forum registration

    Im having difficulty grasping the secure zone concept and ive spent days watching videos and reading online so I hope someone can help push me forward.
    I built the site with Muse, and im using dreamweaver and the BC site (older view) to help edit.  I have a creative cloud subscription.
    First I want to create a registration page to collect custom information on users, for example:  The site is about traveling, so I want users to be able to select which countries they have visited, upload a photo, and control their own profile.
    I want this user information to control the forums, their own blog, and their own photo galleries.
    I'm not afarid of doing the work it till take to get this done but I dont understand if I need to use webforms,  or web app.  The forums module has a default registration page that is very basic, can I use that for a template and just expand it?
    Also I attempted to make webforms and use them, however when I publish my site live again in muse, it seems to delete any forms I made in BC, do I need finish using muse and stay away from it now that the basics are complete?
    Thanks for your help, and any leads or overall concepts that I am missing would be great!  Thanks!

    You can not do that in BC exactly. It is not designed for that sort of site.
    You can not use the CRM to build that sort of thing.
    You will need to build a blog with webb apps and allow them to submit their own and edit their own web app items. For the forums you have a login for the forums but you can not have their own indevidual forum.
    Photo gallery - not using the BC module and will again have to be a web app and limited.
    To pull that into a public profile you again can not use the CRM as showing their CRM information is ONLY when THEY are logged in. You would have to replicate their data in another web app. And pulling them together will be hard unless you know ajax etc and still complicated.
    You probably better off using a different platform to achieve what your after. Coming from Muse and what that outputs as well your going to have a hard time of it. You can not use Muse to publish if you want more stuff like this because it will just do an all in one publish. If you do stick with BC you have to now Ditch Muse if you watn to do any of this right and more.

  • The BDC program for Transaction COGI not workign -need some alternative

    Hi,
         We are doing a SAP upgrade from 4.6c to ECC. One of the custom tcodes which were using BDC programming on COGI is now broken.Since , COGI is now changed in Ecc 6.0  with respect to the output which is now inALV and the earlier Date funtionaliy button is no more there in ECC6.0.
    We are still not to able to find relevant BAPI/function module/alternative for that matter.Rerecording COGI for new environment is not working since it involves alv call functions, which cannot be recorded in BDC.
    Please provide any inputs/valuable suggestions for same.

    HI
    You can try below method.
    there is one check box in COGI transaction named List Display. In your BDC recording, default that field value with 'X'.
    By activating this, list will be displayed as in earlier versions.

  • BC Forum - slider of latest posts...?

    Hello - I'm trying to figure out the best way to approach creating a slider of the latest post from a BC forum on my site...
    I want to take the latest posts (Title of post / User who posted it / date posted) and run these in a slider on the welcome page similar to a news ticker....  The silder i can do - but struggling pulling the data from BC...
    1/ how do I pull the posts out with raw values (I just want - Title of post / User who posted it / date posted)
    2/ How to seperate the info so I can pull them into a jscript slider...??
    Anyone got any clues or ideas how this could be done?
    Many thanks!

    ok try this... save the forum module in a page (call it /forumlist) and call it up by ajax. Then run the code to sort it inside the callback, then once it's sorted do whatever. I haven't tested this but it should work:
    function GetForum(){
              forumget = $.ajax({
                   url: '/forumlist',
                   dataType:'html',
                   async:false
              forumget.done(function(data){
                   $(data).find('ol.forumsitesummary li').each(function(i,val){
                        fnode = document.createElement('div');
                        $(this).clone().appendTo(fnode);
                        topic = $(fnode).find('a').text();
                        $(fnode).find('a').remove();
                        date = $(fnode).find('span.date').text();
                        $(fnode).find('span').remove();
                        author = $(fnode).text();
                        forumdata[i] = [topic,author,date];
                        // do whatever here.
         $(window).on('load', function(){
              GetForum();

    Is the module OSB Cloud Module is a standalone module to backup/restore from Amazon Storage or it must also install OSB product to use this module.

    Hi,
    At this stage this is a limitation of our forum module but will pass along as a feature request.
    While I can’t guarantee this request will be developed, please keep an eye on the BC Blog and forums for the latest news on upcoming updates, including feature requests such as yours.
