Forum Protocol

QUESTION: Does a respondent's forum status improve when he is
designated as having provided a proper solution?
DILEMMA
I am torn between providing a summary statement that
acknowledges who provided what information, but is of my own
authorship, and stealing points from my own benefactor. I prefer a
summary statement, because it helps me to clarify what I have
learned, and it provides forum participants, who might later be
interested in my topic, with a clear answer to my question.

If it helps you, fine. As Nancy says, there are no bonus
points (at
least not yet, although Community Help does have a points
system, so it
might change here too).
In theory, a good summary should help other users, but sadly
very few
people bother to search the forum before asking questions.
One reason is
because the current search system is worse than useless.
Another is
sheer laziness. I understand that Adobe plans to upgrade the
forums
sometime in the not too distant future. Hopefully, a good
search feature
will be included.
In the meantime, the best way to search is to use Google
groups
http://groups.google.com/group/macromedia.dreamweaver/topics?hl=en&lnk).
All these forum posts are mirrored there for ease of
searching.

  • Is a Multi-Forum Post Acceptable?

I would like to ask for advice, input, guidance, and direction regarding my senior class project. Before I post my question, I would like to be sure I am not in violation of any forum protocol.
    1) Is this considered an acceptable use of the forums?
    2) Is it acceptable to post in more than one forum – Database - General, SQL and PL/SQL, and Application Express?
    Thanks
    Gregory

Thank you very much for this extraordinary example of a really obnoxious post.
I certainly hope I am better than that. I abhor IM speak in forum posts, I don't expect people to drop everything to do my research, and I try very hard to use proper spelling, punctuation, and sentence construction.
My school is on the quarter system and this class does not start for three weeks, so this is hardly "URGENT URGENT". However, I would like to get a jump on it.
I really appreciate the input that I have received on these forums so far. I started writing SQL about ten years ago, but I am always amazed at the wealth of information I see in these threads. I have a great deal of respect for the Oracle ACE's and other gurus that monitor these forums.
Contrary to the example in that post, I will try to avoid the obnoxious, urgent pleas for other people to do my work.
Thanks again, you people are a great bunch to be associated with.

  • ASA5520 AnyConnect SSL VPN Connected but unable to ping my inside LAN

Hi there, please forgive if I have missed any forum protocols as this is my first post.
I am trying to configure Anyconnect SSL VPN. I am able to connect to the VPN on a laptop, witch is able to download the anyconnect client from the ASA. I am unable to ping any of my IP's that are on the inside of my ASA. Before posting here I have spent many hours on forums and watching videos on anyconnect SSL VPN creation and I am following it to the T but still no ping. Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Lightroom 2.4 Is Too Slow To Use As A Professional Product

    Hello -
I would like to know how to get Lightroom to respond in less than 4-8 seconds for almost any task.
From returning to Grid mode (4.5 seconds) to adjusting a routine crop and angle (5-7 seconds per move, 60-90 seconds total) to simply shift-selecting three to fifty photos (4-9 seconds) no matter what I do in Lightroom, it is worse that Photoshop 1.0 on a Mac Plus. Really.
Returning to Lightroom from another app - 7 seconds.
Getting the menus to drop down - 4 seconds.
    My lightroom settings:
    standard preview size: 1680
    Quality: High
    Discard 1:1: Never
    write changes to XMP: off
Catalog: 127 mb on F drive (24 gig free)
Catalog: 13.5k photos, 95 gig on F drive
Cache: 6 gig on F drive
    NVIDIA settings: performance over quality
    My computer:
    HP 8730 elitebook
    4 gig ram
    XP Pro, SP2
    Proc: Core 2 Duo T9400, 2666 MHz (10 x 267)
    DirectX    4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
    Chipset: Cantiga PM45
Video: NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M  (1024 MB)
    (2x) 250 gig 7200 rmp HD
Before anyone says to export to a new catalog and re-import, etc, use a smaller catalog, etc, be advised that I have done all of that. I have imported only 250 images to a new catalog, on a newly installed OS, with Lightroom as the ONLY application. Still it acts this sluggish.
I have scoured the boards for solutions, and having tried all the varied fixes to no avail, I really quite strongly feel that a person should not EVER be in the position or running some of the most powerful available hardware and STILL have to wait interminable seconds for Lightroom to respond.
This software, as it stands now on the PC platform (unless I am missing something quite obvous) is absolutely unusable in its present state.
Can someone from Adobe or a board guru please respond in kind to my request for help?

I'd have to agree with the subject of this 100%, even though I'm not experiencing anywhere near the levels of lag ellsworth is on any of my primary workhorses.

    OS 10.5.8 on all machines.
    Let me repeat-
Partitioning ONE drive to contain system files, application, cache, catalog and photos=SLOW.
It really doesn't matter that the drive is 7200 or 10k rpm if ALL items reside on the same drive. The MacPro has four bays. One drive for system and catalog, second for cache, third for photos=FAST.
Wow, I'm glad you repeated that, and used capitalized text so that I would be sure to understand.
Clearly, the benchmarks I have off of the various evolutions of my last 3, $10k computers must be in error. (single system disk, RAID-0 system disk, 10k RPM system disk, RAID-0 3x -10K rpm system disks, multiple scratch volumes on different drives, singular scratch volumes on RAIDed drives, tested via benchmark programs and application specific batch tests, etc.etc.)
More importantly as an issue of forum protocol, you didn't actually read my post.
    Brad Kaye wrote:
I partition about 10% of the outside of a drive as separate and put the information I need to get to most quickly which tends to be the system folder then scratch disk in a another separate partition and then I leave the rest on that drive as gobs of 'B' space for media and other crap files, reserving the first 10%-30% of the outside of a different drive (or RAID-0 sets) for my files and Lightroom catalogs.
I'm throwing 370 mb/sec between two individual sets of 4 drive RAID-0 sets.  Single 7200rpm drives sling about 80 mb/sec.  My drive arrangement isn't the reason Lightroom IS TOO SLOW TO USE AS A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT.
Also, since I referenced and linked the former software engineer turned photo FREAK in my post, whose blog I started reading last year corroborating the decisions I've made in my previous system setups with immaculate documentation and testing procedure your response even more seems like the entire reason I rarely bother posting in community forums.  You seem to be here to spout, not to contribute and learn.
Take a look at all of the info contained here: (I've already read it, all of it, and more)
    Diglloyd Mac Performance Guide
and if you still think I'm wrong, lets have an informed debate about it.  Really.
Otherwise, lets please keep this topic moving forward with the issues Adobe needs to address next to make Lightroom a better product for professional photographers, and specifically, help out ellsworth999 who started this topic, who seems to have a big helping of problems on his plate. I can't speak to him directly of his problems since I'm not using the Windows version of the software.

  • DRM & Burned DVD's Problems

    Hello,
I have burned iTunes purchased video's to a DVD. It will not play on my DVD player but will on my iTunes.
I suspect that DRM is causing this issue. I have tried this before with my media player and hard drive and that is how I came accross DRM.
My question is: is there a method to remove or prevent the addition of DRM to iTunes bought video?
I have looked into DRM removal software, I found it to be much to tedious because of the constant ad bombardment and the amount of time it takes to rip the files and "un-DRM" them.
My apologies if this question has been previously answered for I am new to the forums.
    Cheers

    Hi Guys,
Sorry to hijack this topic but it seemed like the quickest way to get my question to you as you will obviously know the answer
I have some .MOV video files (I think this is the quicktime extension used by iTunes as well?) these are home movies (holiday) taken on a mini camcorder type device. Anyway I want to burn them to a DVD that is playable on a DVD player (not a PC or playstation) so I can share them with some (very non techie) relatives.
Can I do this in iTunes? There are obviously not DRM issues.
When I try to do this I can't see how to change the disc format from CD to DVD, but from this thread (and others) it appears that I can;t do it in iTunes anyway??
If it can't be done in iTunes please can you recommend a cheap and easy way to do it? I have tried using various free download files converters to covert the .MOV files to .AVI and .WMV files and burning them using Power DVD Director but I end up without the audio!
I have spent most of today on this and getting very fed up now I cannot believe how hard this is putting my own holiday videos onto DVD!
Thanks in advance and sorry again if I breached any forum protocols by not starting a new thread.
    Wayne

  • Any idea when FCP 7 will be released or what apple is working on?

any idea when FCP 7 will be released? does anyone have a link to any info regarding FCP 7?

Apple is extraordinarily tight lipped about product developement. If anyone knows, they can't say. If they can say, they don't know.
Speculation about future versions is not really part of the forum protocol -Terms of Use and all that.
If you need the software now, buy it. If you have a feature you'd like to see included, use the Software feedback form found under the FCP item on the program's Menu Bar.

  • Fn_get_audit_file: Multiple Login Entries

Hello.  I posted this question on a different forum site and as of yet have not yet been able to isolate the problem.  I hope that I'm not violating any forum protocols by reasking this question again albeit with different information.  This
appears to be a more appropriate site.
I set up my audit (server & database) process in a file (as opposed to a Security or Application Log) and have been successful at viewing this data from the sys.fn_get_audit_file file (see tsql below).

    From sys.fn_get_audit_file ('path',default,default)
    Where action_id in('DL','IN','SL','UP') --database oriented
          or action_id in('LGFL','LGSD','LGIS','LGIF')  -- server oriented
Prior to running this extract, I ran four sql commands (i.e. update statement, insert statement, select statement & delete statement) and these four are showing up on my fn_get_audit_file extract.  However, the login records are enormous - some
2,000 already.  It appears that they are all action_id=LGIS.  The event_time on these entries are only miliseconds apart.  Sorta like my laptop is pinging the server several times per second and thus blowing up my login records.
I've opened SQL Server Profile and it appears that each time I run a select statement referencing server data (like the fn_get_audit_fil select statement from above) a new login line is created.  As far as i know I'm not logging in but perhaps to SQL
Server's point of view I am.
    Any thoughts?

(excerpt from Pradeep Adiga @ http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlserverfaq/archive/2014/12/07/capture-successful-logins-you-may-see-many-entries-high-volume-when-you-create-audit-for-successful-login-group-action-group.aspx)
When you are auditing successful logins attempts using SUCCESSFUL_LOGIN_GROUP action group through SQL Audit, you will see that there will be too many entries in the audit file.
You may see this behavior for successful logins when connections are made through SQL Server Management Studio. This occurs because for every successful login through SSMS you will have other corresponding connections made at the background. For example
    •   Object Explorer
    •   Query Editor Window
    •   Solution Explorer etc.
Hence successful logins for every such connection will also be recorded.
    Workaround:
Unfortunately SQL Auditing does not have filtering option to remove connections coming from SSMS – object explorer etc.

  • Reposting a question that didn't get answered in previous post: best preset to save mpeg project?

So it took me a week or so to get to try out the answer I'd gotten, & I couldn't get that answer to work, and then my follow-up question didn't get answered, which makes me wonder if threads & discussions kinda die if they're not kept up? (I'm not very experienced in how these forums work, apologies).  In case that is the case, I'm starting this new one, but refer you back to the old (unfinished) one.  Just scroll down to the last few exchanges to get the gist of it.  Thanks . . .  Mark
    the previous discussion:   http://forums.adobe.com/message/4663058

Steve--Sorry if this approach wasn't the best--as I said, I'm not well-versed in forum protocol-- but I did post it last week to the end of that discussion as you recommended but didn't get a response, so I wasn't sure how best to proceed from there.  Anyway, hopefully this works ok for you.  Here's a copy of the relevant exchange. I'd written:  "I'm using a Lumix DMC-ZS7 which, on the small test I did, was set to 640x480 & is a MOV file, and while the "correct" preset choice isn't there, there is probably a best choice among the many choices that are there, and that is my question--which should I choose for this particular clip at this resolution?  Both for quality & cross-platform usability?  The camera also has AVCHD Lite", whose specs read: -- SH: 17Mbps /H:13Mbps /L:9Mbps ) / 30fps (Motion JPEG)   1280x720 pixels, NTSC Mode: NTSC model: 60p(CCD output is 30p)."
You wrote back:  "Shoot in AVCHD Lite and, when you set up your Premiere Elements project, select the project settings for AVCHD Lite and you should get much better results.
Obviously, your video is not going to look perfect at full screen on a computer no matter what output settings you use. Your monitor is likely larger than 1280x720. But you should then be able to output using Share/Disc/WMV setting your output for 1280x720 using the Advanced settings."
And here's my follow-up, & hopefully final, question, from last week:
"Hi Steve-- I just now had time to try out your recommendation--and I will in the future shoot in AVCHD Lite--but for the existing mpeg stuff--I could not find the settings you recommended.  ("Obviously, your video is not going to look perfect at full screen on a computer no matter what output settings you use. Your monitor is likely larger than 1280x720. But you should then be able to output using Share/Disc/WMV setting your output for 1280x720 using the Advanced settings.")  Firstly, I took this to be your answer to my question of how best to save mpegs, not AVCHD Lite, am I right there?  Under Share/Disc I couldn't find any WMV settings whatsoever in any of the choices, nor was there any Advanced option.  Under Share/Computer there is the Advanced option--but again, I couldn't find a WMV setting.   I did find 1280x720 under the Share/Computer/mpeg presets, as a couple HD 720 options & three HDTV 720 options.  If indeed one of those is the best choice--which one?  Or is your original suggestion still the one, with its non-obvious location to be revealed?  (by the way, I've got Premiere v10.0).
Question 2-- when I do start using the AVCHD lite, is there any one preset you can advise as the best one to use?
    Thanks again--Mark

  • Digital Display format bug?

I have an enum (happens to be a typedef) with the Display Format set to %.1d_0x%x so I can see decimal and hex representation.  When I turn on the digital display on the control it works fine.  If I turn the control into a constant the display format only shows the decimal part.

  • Any idea when Office 2011 will be full screen?

One of my favorite features of 10.7 is the full screen apps.  Anyone heard of when this will be done for Office 2011?  What about apps through parallels?  Haven't seen any info anywhere...

  • Firefox 4.0 (final released version) not printing on different computers and printers preview same way prints only url on top of pages

This is happening on different OS's Win 7, Win XP, Win Vista (32 & 64 Bit) OS's and various printers HP, Lexmark that we have at several different sites where we have computers. This happens on locally installed printers (LPT1, USB) and IP networked printers. ALL printer drivers are current and worked correctly under Firefox 3.6.15. Print previews show the correct printers but only shows the URL's on the top of the pages which is all that prints, it even happens on when trying to print pdf's. This is happening on all fifty computers that we have that have been upgraded to ver 4.0 from ver Firefox 3.6.15. Updates made within FF update tool. Same thing happens with all add-ons disabled on all computers. Read all knowledge base items on printing problems none helpful. Obviously, something is not working right. Any suggestions?

Is there anyone who might be able to offer some suggestions on this issue, please?
I posted this question/issue 48 hours ago, and it's floating downhill in the queue without any replies. I am still paralyzed, unable to print.
Bob Headrick, I notice that you are omnipresent on this forum, and also very knowlegeable. May I ask for your thoughts on this issue?  I believe I've followed all the rules here--posting the specifics of the problem, the model numbers and configurations of all equipment, the software involved--but if I've failed to follow forum protocol in any way, please let me know and I'll do my best to post the information you need. I'm sorry to call you out by name, but I'm unclear on how to get help, and I'm at a loss for a solution to this issue.
Thanks in advance to Bob and/or anyone else who has a moment to help on this incredibly frustrating issue.

  • PAL footage problem

I put a PAL DVD into mpeg streamclip and converted it to NTSC .dv. The video footage is fine but the audio is out of sync. Can someone explain why, and if there is a way to fix it? Thanks.

Hi - apologies in advance if it is against forum protocol to piggy-back onto someone else's thread, but it seemed to make sense as it refers to the issue I am going to ask about. I would of course be happy to post a brand new question though. Might even be more for iDVD forum.
I am in the UK and produced a DVD in PAL. Some people in the USA wanted a copy, but perhaps unsurprisingly have come back saying the discs won't play in their DVD players. So the question is what is the easiest way to provide them with an NTSC version.
I created a duplicate of the existing DVD project, saved it, went to Project Info and changed Video Mode to NTSC and went to burn the new project. It said it would have to re-encode assets. I proceeded and it took about 7 hours to complete. I was therefore hopeful that meant a successful conversion from PAL to NTSC. With that in mind I put the DVD into my player expecting it not to play, but it does. So now i'm not sure if i've actually done what I wanted to. Perhaps the only sure way to tell is to ship the disc over to the US for them to try - but before doing so thought it would be worth asking you guys if you knew what I have tried to do is an unworkable shortcut and what I need to do instead as plan B is as recommended in the other thread ie create a new DVD project using NTSC Video Mode, import the reference movie, and start the DVD project from scratch. Or is it that the conversion has worked, but iDVD makes a poor job of it and so I should resort to plan B anyway?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

  • What happened to 'you know who'?

I see no trace of him!

Kind of interesting. The forum protocol thread did not get deleted, but got truncated up to the post where he first raised his pointy little head.
Also, there was an ant question thread that seems to have been deleted, even though it had nothing to do with Goldie. Does sun ever delete threads that are off topic?

  • Sparse bundle stops my back up.

This post was originally made in my earlier question. As no reply as yet I am re starting in hope for an answer. Apologies if this gpes against forum protocol.
I had my TC  connected using  Powerline for ethernet to TC. There were 4 queries highlighted by a red 4 in Airport Utility but options to ignore where there and selected.
Green light on TC and backup started. Not for long, however, as my original reported problem re Sparse Bundle Error 1 has delayed the backup. Referring back to Mr Pondini instructions I got as far as restarting my Mac after which the connection was broken although green light still showed on TC. My back up disc no longer shows in disc utility.
Trying to reconnect has been unsiccessful so far.
From my searches internet wide it seems that far more computer literate people than myself have problems with TC/Sparse bundle. Trying to understand and follow suggestions is very difficult if not impossible for me.
I have paid Apple a not small amount to buy Time Capsule to use with Time Machine with my new iMac and at this moment it is frustratinglly lying idle.
I would very much appreciate guidance in simple language as to how to connect up to use as back up only.  I have only one computer and a wireless printer on my 'network'
    Many thanks

You can plug the TC into your computer direct by ethernet without internet connection.. I presume you get internet via wifi..
The trick to do this is to ensure your main router and the TC are on different ethernet subnets.. ie airport has IP of 192.168.1.x and reset the TC back to defaults.. 10.0.1.1 will all work fine.
Next trick is to ensure the airport has higher priority in the network list than ethernet.. Or manually set the IP for ethernet .. so put IP as 10.0.1.10 and subnet 255.255.255.0
No router (gateway) no dns.. these are not necessary.
Now plug the TC into the computer and hold the reset for about 10sec.. when the TC comes up redo the setup. If you are running lion make sure you download the 5.6 utility as the version 6 included in lion is next to useless.
You can turn off wireless and set internet to ethernet.. and connection sharing to bridge.. set an IP manually perhaps to stop it complaining. The default ip 10.0.1.1 will be fine.
Taking firmware back to 7.5.2 can also be helpful if you keep running into problems but you will need to reconnect the TC back to the internet connection to download the firmware.
