Forum readability
I have some suggestions for the readability of Oracle forums. Obviously a lot of thought was put into making an excellent forum - many well organized categories, good searching, etc. But, there are a number of things which make it difficult for me to read the actual contents. I would like that Oracle address these, if possible.
And, pardon - not sure where to post this, please feel free to suggest allternates.
1. The use of hashing in the "code" sections. Hashing is partially obscuring the text when viewed on my display. Sometimes I have to copy the text out in order to read it.
2. The use of nested scroll bars. Please, please, please: let the internal components resize so that the top level scroll bars can do all the work!
3. There is wasted white space on the right of the window - move the legend and sign in somewhere else so that the forum content uses the whole space. This will allow me to view the forum side-by-side with my code or something else.
4. Add links from the search results to get to other forum categories, etc.
Thanks for listening.
Thanks for taking the time to answer. Regardless of the reason, the net effect is that it makes the text hard to read. Anything you can do for us with eyes over 50 years old would be greatly appreciated! In general, I would prefer strictly black text on white background with other techniques, such as border shading, to deliniate areas.

What printer? Is it local or network? Can you print if you export to PDF and print from Acrobat? -
Hi guys,
I have a favor to ask : May somebody would be nice enough to open this Labview 2009 VI and save it in a Labview 8.6 readable VI ? You'll probably have some missing blocks cause I use specials ones but I don't want to have to re-make all the VI.
Thanks you very much
G.

Unable to read usb memory stick + "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
Hi Everyone,
Today I was tryign to use a brand new memory stick 8GB-Samsung PNY on my Mac Book Pro. (Mac OSX 10.7.5)
1. I do not see this drive in the Finder.
2. Diskutil could detect the drive.
3. I was trying to put ubuntu image file on the drive from the terminal uitility and I have this error message in a dialog box:
"the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
4. Clicking on initialize helps me realise that the drive is detected. But I do not have a clue on how to proceed from here. I am new to Mac and its file system formats.
The same issue happened with my 500GB external Western Digital Hard Drive. I was reading on forums that WD got some issues with Apple is trying to resolve. I expected to not have this road-block with another brand but it happened with my memory stick. Now I was forming an impression that something should be done to external storage devices inorder for me to use them Mac OSX.
Kindly enlighten me and help overcome this issue.
Thank YouThank You OGELTHORPE.
I erased the memory stick and formatted to "Mac OS Extended(Journaled)".
I attempted once again to use the "sudo dd" command from termial trying to copy the Ubuntu image file to the memory stick.
The operation termainates with the same message
"the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
The termainal message says some bytes got transffered in so many seconds. It looks like this operation is being terminated in the middle.
Have any suggestions and work arounds? -
External Hard Drive not Readable & Input/Output Error?
I was using my OWC 300gb external hard drive for a while and it's worked great. I had a bunch of files on it, but I recently transferred everything to another external HD I have, which worked fine, so I could erase this 300gb one. I can't remember what happened, but somehow my Macbook doesn't recognize this hard drive. I think erased everything and then unplugged it without ejecting it first. Anyways, nothing is on the the drive anymore and I get this error message:
"The disk you inserted was not readable by your computer"
This pops up when I restart my Macbook. When I try to use Disk Utility, it greys everything out on the partition and Disk Repair tabs. On the 'Erase' tab, it will allow me to select Erase, but then gives me the error:
"Input/Output error"
Does anyone know how to get my Macbook to see my drive (so I can start to partition it)? For some reason only Disk Utility acknowledges it's there, Finder won't.
Anyone have any tips of what it is or what I can try? I did try to use my OS discs booting up holding C, but that doesn't work either.Hi there. Everyone is saying on these forums that the hard drive is failing...suck. I went and bought a new when I got input/output error and found that the new one showed the same input output error, making it impossible to partition the disk. Then the guy in the apple service center told me the new one was bad too, after having seen the code that came up related to my new scorpio 250 GB drive. Instead of sending it back, I took it out and installed the old one..however this time with a slihtly more of pressure on the tape holding down the hard drive cable between the hard drive and the circuit board. Amazingly, this time it didn't even show any hard drive at all! Then I understood what was wrong. It was exactly what was indicated an "input/output errror"! ..the cable was broken. I bought a new cable, well the Powerbookmedic sold it as new but it was an old working one that arrived. Immediately, after change of cable the old hard drive and now also the new 250 GB works perfectly! I remember that some interesting symptoms prior to all hard drive problems appeared, such as not being able to start up properly, strange blue screens, flipping question marks etc. I remember that shaking the comp occasionally worked to get it going. No wonder, shaking occasionally made it work and i believe the damaged cable maybe changed position and started conducting. The cable is very sensitive and probably should not be taped down so hard as the first service center guy at apple had done with mine when he fixed it the comp a few years ago. Polymers/plastics bent heavily become fragile/brittle with time and are specially sensitive under pressure/bent. Note that my old damaged cable still conducted and showed the hard drives but didn't work fully. I hope this will help someone, it took me 2 month to figure out..

How do I recover my VM's from a readable HDD who's O/S has failed?
We've had the O/S fail on the hard drive that contains several Hyper-v virtual machines. The drive was still readable - just not bootable. After several attempts to install a new copy of Windows Server 2008 r2 on the same drive, I've given up
and installed a new HDD and installed the O/S on that.
Everything is working fine, all I now need to do is get the virtual machines up and going again. I assumed that all I needed to do was copy the .vhd and .avhd files to the new HDD and import them into a new VM on the new HDD.
I've tried doing this, but I get an error message that says "Import failed. Unable to find virtual machine import files..." Is there any way around my dilemma?Hi Brian,
As BrianEh mentioned , you may try to merge the AVHD files to its parent file until you get an vhd file for the new VM , please refer to following link to merge them manually :

External HDD: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
Hi,
I have an external drive with important data on it (there is a backup, but there is also some non-backuped data as well...). I cannot access the external drive because I receive a "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" message connecting it. I was wondering, if you have some advice on how to get my data back?
I have a WD Elements 2 TB (about 2 months old), I am using is with an iMac, latest Snow Leopard. The drive used to work all fine. Now, I receive a "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" every time I connect it. Same thing happens if connected to my MacBook Pro.
What happened?: I was copying files to the external drive. I the middle of it, I received a message complaining I that assumedly ejected the drive by pulling the USB cable out instead of properly ejecting it software-side (I did not do this). The drive symbol was gone. Now, I plug the drive out an reconnected it. The drive symbol showed up again. I continued copying files on the drive, but after some 30 seconds, I received the same error message again. One more time, I disconnected and reconnected the drive - this time to another USB port. The drive showed up, but I was not able to copy files on it (I am using muCommander, it just kept showing 0kb progress). I restarted the Mac. Since then I am getting the "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." The drive symbol does not show up anymore.
I was googling the problem: in one forum there was a suggestion to click "initialize drive" and than to "repair" in DiscUtility. I clicked initialize drive and the drive is shown in DiscUtility, but "repair" and "verify" are greyed out. I read more posts on it, one posts suggested NOT to click initialize because that means format in Mac OS language (btw: ***, why is it not called format).
That is the situation at the moment. What is the best - if there is - way to get my data back? DiscWarrior?
I very much appreciate your advice!
Daniel"Initializing" a drive has been normal computer terminology for decades. "Formatting" generally referred to the high-level preparation also called "erasing." None of this is "Mac OS language."
Disk Warrior will not likely fix the problem you have. DW can repair a damaged directory, but your error suggests an even worse problem of directory corruption. I suggest you try using DW if you have it. Visit the Alsoft site to determine the limitations and usage of the version you have. It may not be able to boot your computer depending upon what version of DW you have and how new your computer is.
If you have no success with DW then see the following:
Basics of File Recovery
Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

External Drive: The Disk You Inserted Was Not Readable By This Computer
I have a 2TB Western Digital external drive that I've been using for a year or two as my backup for my Aperture libraries. Been working fine until now, I get the "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Clicking "Initialize" takes me to disk utility with no usable options. Whatdoido?!
Did my laptop just become illiterate?I had this exact issue with my external harddrive, I scrolled forums and did what they said and nothing, then I just happened to be in the app store and thought I would search for data recovery, a few came up and only a couple had ratings so I looked at Data Rescue 3, its £40 so I went ot their website for the trial version, downloaded and installed that, tried it and rescued a random file (limits obvioulsy on the trial verison) and it worked so paid the £40 and am currently saving all my files to another external harddrive.
Try out the trial first and if it works on one file i reccomend the the full program!
Good Luck! -
External Disk Not Readable by OSX after Setting Drive Letter in Windows 7
My external hard drive, which was previously formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), contains all of my purchased music. I have this external drive connected directly to my iMac via USB. My iTunes in OS X points to this drive.
After installing Boot Camp, I was able to read this external hard drive in Windows 7, but I changed the drive letter used in Windows 7 from E: to G:. Bad idea, apparently...
Now when I boot into OS X, I can no longer read the drive (although I can read it in Windows 7 just fine). I get the error message:
"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." [Initialize] [Ignore] [Eject]
When I use Disk Utility to attempt to Repair Disk, I get the following error:
"2010-11-24 08:43:41 -0800: Verify and Repair volume “disk2s2”
2010-11-24 08:43:41 -0800: Starting repair tool:

2010-11-24 08:43:41 -0800: Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: 000000
2010-11-24 08:43:41 -0800: Volume repair complete.
2010-11-24 08:43:41 -0800: Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
2010-11-24 08:43:41 -0800: Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
I've searched for this issue in these forums and on the web and have not yet found a solution.
Is there any way to repair this external drive so that I can again read/write to it in OS X (WITHOUT losing my music)?
Thanks!I had this exact problem. I bought a 1 TB My Book, formatted it with Disk Utility, and completed a successful backup. I also had some home videos on it and was using about 40% of the drive. One day, about a week later, I had the same "disk unreadable" message and soon panicked. Tried everything, but finally spent $100 for Disk Warrior and I was able to get my videos off, but it wasn't able to fix my drive, DW said I didn't have enough memory.
I reformatted and put my videos back on, but now will use a different drive for backups, so if it fails again I only lose my backups. -
I was playing music on iTunes (my iTunes library is stored on the hard drive) when I realized that it was running slow and giving me some pinwheels. So, I force quit iTunes, ejected the hard drive, waited a couple of seconds and plugged it back in. To my surprise it gave me an error that said "The disk you insterted is not readable by this computer" with the options to initialize, ignore, and eject. I have been searching Google, YouTube, and other forums for fixes (I am not too handy with Terminal without some assistance). I am able to go to Disk Utility and I see the drive there, and when I go to the partition is says "not mounted" I have tried repairing the disk only to get the notificiation that tells me Disk Utility is unable to repair the disk. I also ran Terminal and tried doing diskutil repairDisk and repairVolume to no avail. Below you can see the information I have gotten from Disk Ultilty and Terminal. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I have my music library, art projects, and other very important data on this drive! Thank you in advance!
Yikes, doesn't look too good. But there are still things you can try.
I noticed the disk is formatted as MS-DOS FAT32. While such disks can be read and used on Macs, it's better to set up your disks formatted for the Mac. For one thing, the Mac disk repair tools don't work as well on FAT32 (PC-style) disks. Which might be why Disk Utility did not succeed.
I suggest using a PC running Windows to connect the drive to and see if the data are all visible, and if not, run the built in disk check tools in Windows. Also, WD disks usually come with disk tools on the drive, did yours come with those? Either for the PC and/or Mac? You might be able to download them from the WD sites. -
When trying to create a PDF from a website the font doesn't convert properly to a readable format
Hello,
As the title states when I find something on a website that I want to create a PDF with, the font that's readable from the website converts once the PDF is created to an unknown format that isn't readable in any language. I'm using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and quite the novice at using Acrobat, so any info would be a great help. Did try and search around the forum for the issue but I wouldn't really know what to type as I'm not familiar with what the text is converting to.Ok so I go to a web page and select something to print. Once I've clicked print I switch over from printer/micosoft xps docu writer/fax and select Adobe PDF. All goes through with a 'Create Adobe PDF' coming up progressing through to eventually save and store. Once I open the file it end up as the picture above. I have the same version on another computer and that works fine but this particular Sony laptop it doesn't seem to work properly.

Hello,
I'm trying to list the Preferred Owner list of some cluster Resources, but we have many nodes and the output is not readable from powershell if I use the standard command but it shows somethink like {server1, server2,.....}
Then I've tried to get the output in table mode, but I don't know how to get it.
I'd like to have something like:
"Cluster Resource name" "PrefOwner1","PrefOwner2","PrefOwner3" .......
I've done
get-clusterresource
|
Where{$_.resourcetype
-match
"MyResourceType"}
|
get-clusterownernode | select clusterobject,,@{n='PrefOwners';e={$_.ownernodes
-join","}}
|ft-a
This code is working, but I would like to know if could do more easy or more simply.

Just downloaded CS6 Design Standard. System - OS10.6.8 (about to upgrade to 10.8), iMac 27 i5Intel 4core 12GBram 2.66Ghz
As Pshop opens, I get three alerts...
1 - Could not load Enable Async I/O module because does not work with this version of Photoshop
2 - Could not load Multiprocessor Support module because does not work with this version of Photoshop
3 - Could not load FastCore Routines module because does not work with this version of Photoshop
Then asks if I want to be connected to internet or something like that. Then Pshop opens even before I click OK
None of these happened with CS5.5
I realize CS6 is 64bit. I have CS5.5 set at 32bit because of plugins.
Two issues I've noticed so far with CS6.
1 - As I open a document, the Enable selections drop down at bottom of window is not set on anything. I have to always select the All Readable Documents. Not the case in CS5.5 which was always default at All Readable Documents. Could not find anything in Prefs to this issue.
2 - When saving a document, whether RGB or CMYK, the drop down Format selections are not accurate. The first three or four do read correctly as correlating with the suffix (.jpg .tif etc) in the file name at top of window. But then the subsequent format selections below third or fourth one read as the one above it in the list.
eg: as RGB file: Saving through BMP indicates same in file name at top (.bmp). However, the next choice below that, Gif, still shows as .bmp in file name at top. And so on to bottom of list. Same with CMYK file.
Never saw this in CS5.5.
When I initially installed CS6, I noticed only item in the Plugins folder was Panels folder.... no other plugins. I thought this to be a download error of some sort and dragged basic plugins from 5.5 into 6 Plugins folder. Could this be the problem? Otherwise, I would have NO plugins in CS6
I have downloaded CS6 twice now thinking the first was corrupted. I used both download options on Adobe page - Akamai and standard
Same issues with both. One response stated this all to be a plugins problem. I have uninstalled "after market" plugins from both 5.5 & 6 SuperBladePro was the only one. Restarted CS6. Still same problems. Only items in Plugins are what came with program.I owe an apology to the previous responder Chris C, to this issue. I misread his solution thinking he meant I needed to delete ONLY the "additional" plugins like SBPro. Which I did. But rereading, I see he meant ALL the plugins I dragged from 5.5 because the 6 plugins folder was empty.
I thought it was corrupted in download. So if you guys get points for solutions, be sure Chris gets a few since I responded saying it did not work.
In fact, after removing the 5.5 plugins from 6, everything is working fine.
Plus I didn't know the 6 plugin folder was for the "after markets" like SBPro which is good to know.
Also thanks for the fairly quick response. I'm typically dubious about forums as troubleshooting solutions.
Kinda like sending a message in a bottle out to sea. Never know when it's coming back.
Sometimes issues are urgent. Your response team has encouraged me greatly :-)
But still bummed that Chats do not support CS6 however.
