  • Better Search Capability For Eclipse?

    Hello,
I don't like the Eclipse search functionality because it doesn't show you any text results when you run a search. In some IDE's, you can search on a term, and then a snippt of the text containing the term shows up next to the search results (JCreator, J++, Textpad). Sometimes this is critical for me to scan a large search resultset all at once to find a problem or determine what files I need to edit. With the basic Eclipse 3.1 search engine, you have to open each file individually to see the context of the text containing the search terms.
Does any know if there is a plugin for Eclipse that offers an improved search capability? Or is there an easier way to accomplish what I want?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Eclipse provides functionality to find file
containing searched text: select menu item 'Search',
then select 'File...' item and enter searched text. That is the worst response I have ever read on this forum, bar none. Did you even read my question? I just said that I DON'T LIKE the way Eclipse displays the search results when you use Search | File or Search | Java. Why are you telling me to do the very same thing I am saying I don't like? I want a plug-in that shows me a different view of the results than just a list of files that contain them. I want to see a text snippet of the line containing the search text next to my results so I can glance at the search results and determine whether I even need to open the file. Other IDE's do this. Please read the questions more carefully next time before posting responses like this. Anyone else?

  • Logical AND not working in the forum search box

Logical AND of search terms does not seem to be working in the MSDN forum search box. Example: I go to the Project Customization and Program forum and type the word
    subproject
in the search box. I get a lot of hits. So now I try to reduce the number of hits by typing
    subproject AND read
Surprisingly, I now get MORE hits than before.   The same thing happens if I enter
    subproject & read
Do the MSDN forums not support the standard logical AND combinations of search terms?  If they do support these combinations, what is the syntax?

    Cheers, you're welcome.
There's a thread going in the Suggestions forum with plenty more requests for updates to the search tool. You may want to add your voice there too:

  • Forum search doesn't find message but Google does

The forum-search query "icc profiles ilford paper", with the forum "Photoshop Elements" selected, does not find the following message:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1520276#1520276
    Re: ICC Profiles
I just purchased some ILFORD paper and I downloaded and installed the ICC profile into Windows Vista without any problems. My question is when I open my printer properties and select a paper profile my ILFORD ICC profile is not showing. I have a Canon Pro9000 printer.
    However, this Google query does:
icc profiles ilford paper photoshop elements site:forums.adobe.com
Sigh, in general I'm finding it faster and more reliable to use Google to search not only Adobe forums, but the knowledge base and the rest of the Adobe site as well.
Also, the message above is definitely indexed by the forum search engine, since you can retrieve it using the following query:
    subject:"icc profiles" ilford paper
Of course, at the time I was searching, I didn't know which keywords were in the subject and which were in the body.

And this suprises who?  Never had much luck with the Adobe search, either in old or new forum.

  • Some of my thread doesn't show in "Forum Search" engine

    Dear all,
I try to locate some of my threads in Apex Listener section, where I have at least 3 of them there, but strangely the search engine doesn't return for such query. Other threads that reside in other section do it without any problem. Any advice?
    Best regards,
    Val

Yes unfortunately it is the only way. Oracle is unable to provide search functionality as it is only a database company, so it is recommended that if you need to search for information you should use Google instead.

  • Using Just the search Capability in JavaHelp

I would like to use the search Capability of JavaHelp only. Is there a way to just use the search capability in JavaHelp and display the results of the search in a seperate window?

Is there a way to just use the search
capability in JavaHelp and display the results of the
search in a seperate window?Yes, there is. In your HelpSet.hs file in your help directory, you will see several 'view' tags. As standard you get three, TOC, Index and Search. Just remove the ones you don't want (i.e. TOC and Index), and then just Search will be displayed.

  • Need help !! Adding search capability to JText component.

We need help adding the string search capability to the JText component like how other text editors have. Does anybody know what component to use and what the easiest way to implement it is?

Swing components are implemented using a design pattern called MVC - Model View Controller. The View is simply the visual representation of the Model, where all the good stuff is stored, namely the state of the component. (And the Controller glues everyhing together.)
The JTextComponent uses a javax.swing.text.Document as its model. What you can do is get access to your component's model, and from that get access to the text contained in the Document. Once you have that text, the easiest thing you can do is do an indexOf() search.

  • Forum Search Function - A Question

I know that the Adobe Forum team has worked hard over the last year, to improve the forums' Search Function. The standardization across the various forums, the utility of Search, HAS been improved - thank you for that work.
However, once, after one ran a Search, and received a results page, it was possible to go thread-by-thread in those results, to pick the one, ones, that worked for an OP's situation, and by just using the browser's Back button, the searcher was taken back to the Search results page, for more research. Now, the Back button takes me (Chrome on Windows PC) to the general Discussions page, and not the Search results page. This means that the Search criteria have to be re-added. At first, it would seem that Copy/Paste for the Search criteria would be the best workflow, and just re-do that Search, over and over, reading one thread per Search. However, I use Search most often to help posters get answers, and I use the URL to the existing threads to do that. Here is an example of how I use Search, and how it works for me now - the current Search:
Poster has a question, and many other threads in a forum answer that/those question(s). I find six existing threads, that match my Search criteria. Good so far. I then need to read all six threads, to find the one(s), that are best for the new poster. When I find one, I Copy the URL of that thread, and add that to my Reply to that poster. I cannot Copy the Search criteria, to use in the Search query box, as I just Copied the URL to one thread in the list. I then have to go back to the main Discussions page, and re-initiate my Search, to read the second of the six threads - rather tedious, especially with more than one useful thread.
My workaround now, is to create a NotePad document with my Search criteria, and go back to it, Copying and Pasting those characters, after doing a Copy/Paste of a threads URL. Still tedious, but less typing.
Not sure if the old method, or using Back to get to the Search results page, could be re-implemented, leaving the rest of the Search functions untouched, or if someone knows a neat way to return to the Search results page, that I just am not aware of (do not mind admitting OE on my part, and am open to perhaps a better workflow, for how I normally use Search).

Jacob, unfortunately and although true, that doesn't agree with the image "normal" users get, with those unnecessarily brightly colored badges, and even more unnecessary special backgrounds in their posts, no matter how trivial (and I am not in the least questioning their most legitimate right to post trivial messages)... Their word doesn't become the Bible by the mere fact of being punished with their MVP titles, as the highlighting of their posts seems to suggest.
And yes, I know that -at least- many of you haven't chosen to be nominated as MVPs but, what does the general public think? Most probably, that you all have full moderating powers, and some other powers as well. A sad, artificial, and most unneeded situation -most definitely not an improvement.

  • I need SEARCH capability for my website

OK, I've got a small site (10 pages) built with basic html
pages in Dreamwever. I need SITE SEARCH capability, but I'm really
not sure where to begin. I know this, having a search box with
Google branded on it would not be cool. I need a custom look to the
search interface. The remote ISP has PHP and MySQL. I also have
ColdFusion, but I don't want to pay the extra fee charged by the
Host to use it. Can someone tell me where I can get basic tutoring
online to help me better understand the basics of dynamic sites
    Thanks.

    See if this helps:

  • Forum search broken!

Please see this thread in the JDeveloper forum:
    Forum search broken?
For some user it works, for others not. Sure doesn't work for me.
Searching in the JDeveloper forum for "RowSetIterator" or "ViewObject" simply must return tons of results. It doesn't for me.
And when I go to my profile and search for all my messages I also get nothing.

  • ALV column with search capability

    All,
When you create an ALV grid with a field of type like mara-matnr you have a button automatically inserted in the cell and when you click on it, you have the standard search for materials and you can list/select all the materials you want.
I would like to have the same for jurisdiction code but when I define the field like TTXJ-TXJCD, there is no search capability attached in the cell.
Does anyone knows how to do this?

    John,
I created an elementary Search Help with selection method on table 'TTXJ' .
I applied this Search Help to a new custom domain I created and finally I assigned this domain to a field of a custom table I had.
Unfortunately, I have no list in the ALV grid.
Is there something else you believe I should do?
    Thanks,
    Isabelle

  • Make the Forum Search Tool useful

The current Forum Search Tool is nearly useless.  Please add the following features to make it a functional tool:
    1. Logical operators - i.e. allow the following searches: cow AND chicken, cow OR chicken, cow NOT chicken (or -chicken)
    2. Quoted text to search for exact phrases - i.e. allow the following search: "my chicken says moo"
    3. Results with date ranges - i.e. allow the following search: weird chicken, Results before 04/01/2012 or after 04/01/10 or between 04/01/2010 and 04/01/2012
    4. Mix it up!  "My chicken says moo" AND "purple chicken feed" -cow, results after 12/23/2012
    5. Search in one forum only - i.e. allow the following search: "chicken says moo" ONLY in the "Farm Animal Behavior" forum
    6. Search ONLY in posts (answers and/or questions) made by a particular user - i.e. allow the following search - "purple chicken feed" posted by user "Farmer Brown" ONLY
    7. Do NOT include variations of words that you "think" might be "helpful".  Right now a search for the word "running" yields results that contain the following words: running, run, runs.  Weeding through all the useless
"helpful" results is a huge waste of time and makes it difficult in the extreme to actually find "relevant" results.  HINT: There might be an actual REASON why we want to search for "running" and
    NOT "run" or "runs".
    8. Please make the default operator AND instead of OR when more than one search word is used.  Adding more terms to a search tool should produce FEWER, MORE REFINED RESULTS instead of MORE, IRRELEVANT RESULTS.  Very few people ever want
to search on a single word only.  This is especially true in a technical reference environment!
    9. Sometimes I WANT a word spelled exactly as I typed it.  If I get results that I do not want because I misspelled a word, I can just retype the search.  If you FORCE me to use your spelling, this makes my search completely useless.  Please
give us MORE options rather than less!
    10. Remove search result highlighting.  We don't need the words we just searched for being blasted at us in highlighted bold.
NOTE: If there are any other requests for the search tool, post them as replies and I'll add them to this list.
Please do not read this sentence. Please ignore the previous sentence.

    Hi,
i have posted many question but now i want to search a particular post by searching this forum but i found search is not finding in my thread rather it is searching keyword in all thread. so guide me how to search my posted question only in this
forum? who can help. please develop a powerful search for msdn forum. thanks
Searching in one forum is currently possible, you just need to make sure that you only have a single forum selected in the left rail:
This walkthrough is a bit out of date now, but it should still be helpful for selecting only a single forum:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18107.msdntechnet-forums-how-to-view-a-single-forum.aspx
PS - I posted this same information (without the screenshot and FAQ link though) in
    your thread.

  • Forum search doesn't work properly

    try this:
in the JDeveloper forum search on JBO-25046. you will NOT find any hits. Same if you just search on 25046.
Search on jbo-25046 and you will find thousands of hits referencing jbo without a number.
search on RowNotAvailableException (the actual exception which accompanies JBO-25046) and you will find many posts with JBO-25046 in the subject of the post as well as the body.
when i first started using the forums i found them almost completely useless because it would return any page with any of my search words in it, not even give me the results with most of my search words in first.
once i dug around for a bit, i found that you could do boolean searches using AND in caps. this seemed to to work ok aside from the fact that the search also seems to search for and hilite the word AND throughout the search results.
please put some intellegence into your forum search engine so that forum users can actually find things and benefit from the huge amount of knowelege available there.

    No,Its working fine.

  • Losing search capability

When I first purchased my iBook operating with Tiger, and using Spotlight, I was impressed that it could retrieve files no matter how old (even word files transfered from a windows machine). After eight months, however, it cannot find many files. Specifically, if I search for a song using a word in the title, the song does not show up.
I recall that it used to be able to find songs and e-mails. Maybe my recall isn't that good, but I don't think so.
If anyone has any thoughts on what I can do to fix the search capability, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

Spotlight's 'embedded string' matching rules are a bit obscure and it may be that you're bumping up against them. I understand that the rules are a bit looser and more inclusive if you search from a Finder window using the 'name contains' option -- you might try that approach and see if you get a few more hits.
One of the Spotlight's unfortunate shortcomings is that it cannot be relied upon to find all files containing a particular string that may reside on your hard drive - partly because of these 'embedded string' rules, and partly because Spotlight deliberately (and invisibly) excludes certain folders from its index. One fairly airtight solution to this problem, for cases where it's essential to know for sure whether a particular file is on your hard drive, is to download the free search utility "EasyFind".

  • Improvements to the forum search

I often need to search for hints on the jdeveloper forum.
I would like to suggest some improvement to the forum search
    1) when i search with more than one word i would like to see only the results in which all the words appear, or at least to see first the results with all words and then the others
    2) in the search results every thread should appear only one time, in my opinion
    Thanks, Mauro

Very embarrassing, the search tool is right here in front of my eyes.
