Forum search doesn't find message but Google does

The forum-search query "icc profiles ilford paper", with the forum "Photoshop Elements" selected, does not find the following message:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1520276#1520276
Re: ICC Profiles
I just purchased some ILFORD paper and I downloaded and installed the ICC profile into Windows Vista without any problems. My question is when I open my printer properties and select a paper profile my ILFORD ICC profile is not showing. I have a Canon Pro9000 printer.
However, this Google query does:
icc profiles ilford paper photoshop elements site:forums.adobe.com
Sigh, in general I'm finding it faster and more reliable to use Google to search not only Adobe forums, but the knowledge base and the rest of the Adobe site as well.
Also, the message above is definitely indexed by the forum search engine, since you can retrieve it using the following query:
subject:"icc profiles" ilford paper
Of course, at the time I was searching, I didn't know which keywords were in the subject and which were in the body.

And this suprises who?  Never had much luck with the Adobe search, either in old or new forum.

  • Forum search doesn't seem to work for Date Range 'ALL'

    Hi there,
Forum search doesn't seem to work for Date Range option: 'ALL' .
For a given search criteria, I get few search results when the date range is chosen as 'last year', but for the same search criteria, when the date range is chosen as ALL, no search results are shown (not even the ones shown earlier for last year selection).

  • Mail on disk image, Spotlight can find messages, but "entire message" can't

For security purposes I've moved my to a disk image. For details on how to do this, see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5837719
It's a relatively easy thing to do as long as you make sure that a symbolic link exists to your new Mail disk image's volume from ~/Library/Mail.
Getting to the point: Spotlight is able to find my mail messages when the disk image is mounted. So far -- no problem.
The catch is this: Mail->Search->"Entire Message" is completely broken. I get zero results, no matter what the query is. Finder Spotlight searches are able to find results for the same queries. We're talking about local mbox folders, not online IMAP folders. Searches within Mail in To/From work fine.
I've tried the following suggestions, scoured from various help forums:
    -- repairing disk permissions
    -- rebuilding the Spotlight index
-- deleting Envelope Index and re-importing my messages
    -- vacuuming the SQLite databases
    None of these suggestions helped.
I've caught wind of this on other forums, but so far there doesn't seem to be a definitive fix, unless I've missed something. I'm not sure if the fact that I'm running Mail from a disk image is particularly germaine to the issue, either.
Any ideas on how to get Search working for entire messages again?
This is on 10.5.1, clean install. (This is a new MacBook.)

Thanks Dave. I went to Betalogue and went through all the posts and I finally found a way to fix the Search Entire Message Spotlight problem in Apple Mail - at least it worked for me. I have been trying to fix this with all sorts of solutions for months and it turns out it was related to a problem with the Launch Services Database. I confirmed this by looking inside my user/library/mail folder and seeing that inside each Mailbox folder, the sub mailboxes all had standard folder icons and not the inbox tray style icons.
Note that you can easily fix this through Terminal Commands, and not all the following steps are completely necessary, but there are many people looking at these threads that want to just push buttons...
*== So here are my simple steps to fixing Apple Mail Search ==*
    1. Attach and turn on any external hard drives you have that may have a copy of Mail.app on them
    2. Delete all OLD copies of Mail.app that you can find (don't worry about Time Machine), but make sure you keep the latest version of Mail.app in your working Applications folder.
~ This is so that the LaunchServices database won't easily become corrupt again
    3. Install the latest version of Onyx - free to use and download from www.macupdate.com
~ I suggest Onyx, because some people don't want to mess with the Terminal.
    4. Quit all open applications and run Onyx (it will want to check your Hard Drive etc...that's OK).
    5. Go to the Maintenance pane and then the Rebuild tab and select only the LaunchServices box. Click Execute.
~ This should fix the primary problem with searches
    6. When that process finishes, select only the Mail's Envelope Index box. Click Execute.
~ This should fix related problems with other searches
    7. When that process finishes, select only the Spotlight Index box. Click Execute. (This process of Rebuilding your Spotlight Index could take hours depending on how big your hard drive is).
~ This will give you a clean fast Spotlight database that Mail uses for Entire Message searches.
    8. Quit Onyx
    9. Open Mail.app and test your Entire Message Search!
    ====
Hope that helps - it certainly, finally, did for me!
    Bryce.

  • ICal search doesn't find anything

when I test this by creating a future event with a particular word in it, then return to today and search for that word in the little "search" box at top right, it doesn't find that word.
    Why not?

I have also had long standing problems of not being able to search for calendar events, either from within iCal or Spotlight or using mdfind.
None of the suggested solutions worked for me (removing Calendar Cache file, adding and removing folders or drives to the privacy section of Spotlight to re-index, or running mdimport ~/Library/Calendars.
One clue was that mdimport -d2 ~/Library/Calendars would not even look at the individual .ics files within any .calendar/Events directory (no output). I suspected that this was due to LaunchServices not associating these files properly with iCal. My system had previously been upgraded all the way from 10.0 through 10.6.
What finally worked for me was the following, using the Terminal, rebuilding completely the LaunchServices database:
    rm /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices*.csstore
    *defaults delete com.apple.LaunchServices*
    *sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServi ces.framework/Support/lsregister -kill*
*sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServi ces.framework/Support/lsregister -R -domain local -domain system -domain user*
(note the capital -R in the previous line.)
This step will take a few minutes to complete, with a message about I/O throttleing
reboot (not sure if that is necessary)
    *mdimport -d2 ~/Library/Calendars*
This last command should now show the successful indexing of all calendar events.
After this search finally worked again for me!

  • Exchange 2010 Outlook search can not find messages older than 1 year

    Hello,
I have an exchange 2010 sp2 server. One of my users complains that Outlook search can not find any message older than 1 year. He have all his 5 year mails in the mailbox, but looks like search engine cant recognise them :(
    Any thoughts? thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Please verify that indexing is complete in Outlook:
    1. In Outlook, click in the Search box.
    2. Click the Search tab, click Search Tools, and then click Indexing Status.
    3. When the Indexing Status dialog appears, you should see the following:
Outlook has finished indexing all of your items.
0 items remaining to be indexed.
Besides, please use the Search-Mailbox cmdlet to check if you can get messages older than one year in this user mailbox.

  • Forum search doesn't work properly

    try this:
in the JDeveloper forum search on JBO-25046. you will NOT find any hits. Same if you just search on 25046.
Search on jbo-25046 and you will find thousands of hits referencing jbo without a number.
search on RowNotAvailableException (the actual exception which accompanies JBO-25046) and you will find many posts with JBO-25046 in the subject of the post as well as the body.
when i first started using the forums i found them almost completely useless because it would return any page with any of my search words in it, not even give me the results with most of my search words in first.
once i dug around for a bit, i found that you could do boolean searches using AND in caps. this seemed to to work ok aside from the fact that the search also seems to search for and hilite the word AND throughout the search results.
please put some intellegence into your forum search engine so that forum users can actually find things and benefit from the huge amount of knowelege available there.

  • Awsome Bar doesn't find anything but is spinning forever

I'm using FF 4.0. After starting FF, everything works as expected. But after some time, the Awsome Bar stops finding any entries in my history/bookmarks. I can't tell exactly when this exceptional behaviour starts, just after some hours of browsing. No matter what I enter into the Awsome Bar, no hit is shown, but the wheel on the left of the bar keeps spinning forever.

You've already checked for most of the things I would check for under these circumstances, so the following "troubleshooting" thoughts are pretty experimental.
Wondering here if this might be an issue with the firewall rules for your ASU. Roughly speaking, ASU checks the MSIs on your PC to get the version numbers of currently installed software, then compares that with the download server's list of version numbers at Apple. So if the firewall isn't letting ASU talk to the server, it might report that there's nothing available for download. (Normally under those circumstances, ASU would report a "The Apple Software Update Server could not be found" message, but odd things can happen with firewall settings issues.)
So check the Firewall rule for ASU in your Firewall settings. Is it allowing full access to the Internet? If not, and you do allow it full access, does ASU display updates?
If it is already allowing full access, try deleting that rule and creating a new one (that allows full access). Does ASU report anything new available for you with a new firewall rule in place?

  • Display ethernet doesn't find IP, but does work with manual IP

My MacBook Pro is connected to my thunderbolt display. Recently the display ethernet stopped working. When I set the setting on 'Using DHCP' it doesn't find an IP address. I can select 'Using DHCP with manual address' and choose a random IP address and it works fine. The wifi also works fine (so that does find an IP address using DHCP...).
Any ideas how to solve this? Is it a mac or a router problem?
    Thanks in advance,

If you remove display ethernet in the Network menu then add it back in does it find the IP address?

  • Bridge search criteria doesn't find files but the exact same criteria finds files in the Finder

I am wondering if anyone has been having the same problem that I have been having. I can't seem to get any results back from the Bridge when I create a smart collection but when I enter the exact same criteria in the Finder I get lots of results. I took a screen shot of both programs if any one can catch something I am doing wrong. To me it looks exactly like the same search criteria in both apps.

    Hi Holly,
I've been doing a lot of reading on and off and my office just decided to get a server and either extensis portfolio, or canto cumulus, both are software packages that have been designed from the beginning to do exactly what we want.
The drag is that they are expensive, but I was spending so much time trying to tweak out bridge and trying different scripts and blah blah blah, that I wasn't taking pictures, so that's what we decided to go with.
I've worked with Canto Cumulus in another job and it is really great, some people told me to check out extensis so I'm looking into both right now.
Sorry, but that's the best solution for us, just use something else instead of bridge for the network.

  • Search finds messages, but how do I know what folder the message is in?

New to TB from Eudora. I like TB.
Playing around with searching, both using the box within TB as well as Windows Search. Either way I get results - slightly different but that's okay. But using both methods, when I've found the message that interests me, I can't determine the TB folder in which the message resides. Is there a way to do this?

have a look at the space being consumed by the mozmsg files and then decide if windows search is really worth it. I got rid of gigabytes of those files around 80 thousand of them. I thought it was more baggage than it was worth. What suprised me was that turn off the windows search option did not remove the files.
But to your question. When you have the returned list in front of you. In the middle at the top, hidden in plain sight, is the show as a list option. Once you have them in a list you can click the widget at the end of the heading row and select folder. (unfortunately it does not save.)
You might like the search under Ctrl+Shift+F as well. Those can be saved as "virtual folders"

  • Apple mail search doesn't show messages

I can normally search for sent and received emails by entering a persons email address in the search field with the spyglass icon, since last week I haven't been able to do this even though all messages show up in the inbox and sent folders. Is there a setting that I might have accidentally changed?

    Step 1
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -F '$Time $Message' -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds | tail | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.
    Step 2
Enter the following command as in Step 1 and post the output:
    mdutil -as 2>&- | pbcopy
    You can then quit Terminal.
    Step 3
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Terminal. In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash reports related to Spotlight. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. A Spotlight crash report has a name beginning in "mds" or "mdworker" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent such report, if any, from the System and User subcategories and post the entire contents—the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.

  • ICal Search doesn't find my events in the distant future !!!

Here's a bit of a disturbing one: I use iCal (Leopard, so iCal 3.0.8 1287) to keep track of many things- not just a meeting next week or a TO DO - but also for long-term planning. I wanted to enter a reminder for about December 2016 concerning social security - but first wanted to check if I hadn't already done this. I typed social in the iCal search box and everything through 2009 came up.
But, I said, that's a bit strange since I was almost sure I'd put something into iCal already.
OK so then I went to the date 28 August 2017 (shift-cmd-T) and once there, I did the same search - and voila - my event about "social security" from 17 Nov 2016 showed-up in the serach results section!!! (I later tried going to March 2016 and it worked as well - so seems it has to be within a few months / year from the date-- ?!?)
Went back to another date closer to today (19 May 2010) - it did not show up.
For other searches, some events for April 2010 have showed-up; but nothing 3 years in the future.
For some repeating items I get results showing 2008 - 2011, but never further than that if I start the search on today's date. (I get all events from past dates all the time).
Another "workaround" is that if I type the word social into Spotlight, it finds the 17 Nov 2016 event.
Is this a "bug" that iCal cannot find distant future events? Any comments or other people's experience really appreciated. It's not good, this - (like doing a search on an Excel Spreadsheet and only getting recently dated information or something like that. Not good).
    Appreciate any feedback here.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte

  • [Solved]Akonadi doesn't find QtSQL (but it is already installed)

    Hello everyone
I have updated KDE to 4.6.2 on my Archlinux x86.
When I start KMail (1.13.6) I get this message:
    Screenshot
The first line in the message catches my attention:
    Databse driver not found
    Details:
The QtSQL driver 'QMYSQL' is required by your current Akonadi server configuration.
The following drivers are installed: QSQLITE, QSQLITE3, QODBC3, QODBC, QPSQL7, QPSQL.
Make sure the required driver is installed.
So, I was reading here: http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi_4.4/Tro … erequisite.
Considering that I have compiled Qt-4.7.2 by myself using an oficial PKGBUILD with a little changes (you can see it here), I have paid attention to this:
If you compile Qt4 yourself, make sure to tell the configure script to build in MySQL support by passing it the following option:
    -plugin-sql-mysql
But if you see the PKGBUILD it has the flag:
    -plugin-sql-{psql,mysql,sqlite,odbc}
I guess as that flag enabled the QtSQL driver on my system.
Also, the same web page says:
The driver you need is libqsqlmysql.so
So, I ran a command to see if that file exists on my system:
    $ pacman -Ql | grep libqsqlmysql.so
    qt /usr/lib/qt/plugins/sqldrivers/libqsqlmysql.so
As you see the file is on my system and it is provided by the package qt.
Furthermore, in the named web page, a little further down, of the text that I have cited, says:
Then configure and make as above. But the make install doesn't copy the driver. So you have to copy it by yourself:
    cp <qt-src-dir>/qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.6.0/plugins/sqldrivers/libqsqlmysql.so /usr/local/bin/sqldrivers/
As you see it says that the libqsqlmysql.so file must be copied to /usr/local/bin/sqldrivers/ (doesn't name a specific distribution) and if you look a little fhurter up, when I post the terminal output after running the pacman command, you will see that the named .so file, in my system, is on the route /usr/lib/qt/plugins/sqldrivers/.
    Maybe this is the problem.
Plase help me, I have four email accounts and it is so tired to go account by account reading my emails. Becouse, also, and related to this latter thing, when kmail shows the error message I can't acces to the display area, there where you can read your emails. I just can acces to the main menu, here a screenshot:

    Thanks in advance
