Forum settings is broken

I am not surprised by how the forum has been going on lately, but to my frustration "Account Update" under "Forum Settings" has been broken for a few weeks now.
What should one do to update some info in there?

You can never have 0 dukes.I can't? Dunno, I hardly spend any.

It looks like forum lists are broken, i.e. the two buttons to the left of the "Font family" drop down menu.

lists

and
bullet
points
are broken
Can this be fixed please?

Hi Oliver341,
It would seem that the bullet point formatting (numbers or text bullet points) are working, however are displayed depending what device or browser your using.
This would also be a Lithium issue and not a BT Retail forum issue as the forum is operated and built by Lithium. The Mods would probably need to raise a ticket with lithium for them to have a look at this

Everyone needs to check their Watch List and Forum Settings

Recently Sun's Java and Developer forums were consolidated into a single, large instance of the Jive forums infrastructure. Some users are no longer getting automatic email notifications on topics they have posted to. If your settings in Developer forums differed from settings in Java forums, then some settings may not be what you expect. Log into any forum, then verify your Forum Settings and Watch List options. In the Forum Profile and Settings, make sure your Watch List Preferances are correct, especially the Email My Watches Updates setting. In Your Watch List, make sure each topic has the Email Updates option set correctly.

I found that one work around is to use the advanced search
option.

Forum Search Feature Broken

Since Monday, when I use the Search feature, I get the following result:
The page caused an ESI processing exception.
I would have searched to see if others are having the problem, but the search feature is broken. :)

FYI: beryl-svn settings manager broken

Hi. I uploaded the 9xx svn releases of beryl. It works fine here, but the settings manager is really broken. Backup your profile before you make changes and be prepared that changes in some plugins are lost.

Hi, cheers for uploading the new release. I upgraded to it today, and now my window decorations will not show. I tried deleting all my settings from my home directory, and that did not work. I am using a KDE desktop, and starting beryl with the following script in ~/.kde/Autostart/

The funny thing is, if I add the line "emerald &" to the end of that script, it does not work, but if I open a command window and type "emerald", then all the window decorations magically appear!
What should I do to fix this?

Is the forum search engine broken?

Is it just me or is the search engine in this forum broken? I have tried to search for "Java","System","PrintService" etc. I everytime I get 0 results...

"Broken"? No. "Not very good"? That's a fair description.
Maybe the problem is your search. Have you tried different combinations?
Take "Java" out of the search. This IS a Java forum, after all.
What does "PrintService" bring back on its own?

Forum registration is broken

Hi,
I just could register at this forums but it was really hard because the security question one has to answer can not be answered right by just entering
date -u +%V$(uname)|sha256sum|sed 's/\W//g'
in a terminal. After a lot of attempts I found out that there has to be something wrong with the serverside execution of the sed part. I could only register successfully by omitting the sed part. So instead of entering just the hash value as the answer, one has to enter the complete output of
date -u +%V$(uname)|sha256sum
That means
# doesn't work

sed is only guaranteed to support POSIX BRE, and I cannot see \W defined there. \W is part of pcre.
There are some alternative commands we could use:

sed "s/[^[:alnum:]]//g"
sed "s/[^[:xdigit:]]//g"

How can I change or create my signature?
How can I bookmark a specific thread?
Is there a way to get notifications on an individual thread, and not select notifications "globally" and get everything I reply to?

Look at the sidebar to the right of the thread. "Bookmark this" is one option.

Look at the same sidebar. One option is "receive E-mail notifications."
I know some people use graphic signatures, but I cannot remember how that is accomplished. You could search the forums. As I recall, that has been addressed in the past.

Are the forum RSS feeds broken again?

W3C validator says the RSS feed - for example for this forum - 'does not validate'.
Thunderbird also complains that the feed is invalid.

The feed looks okay to me in a web browser, but I'm not using an actual reader or trying to do any validation on it.

but the forum search hasn't worked for me for almost a week.

If you click on the "support" and then "discussions" link at the top of the home screen, you get this:
We're sorry, Apple Discussions are temporarily unavailable. The system should be back on-line soon
However, if you are able to link into the discussion forums (which do seem to be available) by cut/pasting a link from an E-mail notification.

I think there was an issue with being unable to login to reply.
Considering how often in the last two days Discussions will not open; time out; and/or are more sluggish than ever, and the only place where I ever see "unavailable" is from the main page, not sub-Discussion (like Mac Pro)...
I don't see how someone would know if "local" was all of the USA or a forum, but it is only Apple Discussions.... all other web sites, Apple Store, are fine.
I did run try one link that led to "being upgraded" (http://docs.info.apple.com/)
Seems like the servers need a reboot and rebuild of the indexes - or throw more hardware at the problem... I just gave up idea of ever accessing any Discussion area yesterday. Even when I could read a discussion thread, I could NOT login, could not reply, not in any web browser - OmniWeb, Shiira, Firefox.... (and only when those don't work do I ever bother trying to use Safari).
I even tried from a good backup system.
When our 3270 'dumb terminals' would get to a 20 second delay for remote users, they would just hit enter, then go do something productive... total nightmare at that speed to get anything accomplished.

Hey, I tired to search google for this error and it seems that it's connected with mysql user permissions or something like this. The "funny" thing is if I ask google about the error like this and try to click next page (second) google says:

:-) Of course I can use google for other searches without any problems so I guess the problem might be more complicated. It's annoying but you can still see the new posts as yellow (orange?) icons if you click forums one by one.

LOSS ALL FORUM SETTINGS

What in the world happened to all the forums I was subscribed too? I see nothing when I go to discussion forums that I had selected just yesterday and see no way to get to the forums I had before.
WHAT IS THIS MESS ANYWAY?????
