Forum software glitch using id numbers

Last night I posted a reply to someone's question and I noticed that the forum was going
through a phase where it was ignoring people's nicknames and just using id numbers. So the forum software posted the
answer under my id number not my nickname. Then today I see it went back to nicknames.
When it converts to nicknames, the messages sent under the id number become invisible.
The poster would have to go in via the control panel to see the original posting as one way
to find such a message. I just thought I'd mention it that some messages were possibly effectively lost.

Hi,
That's defniitely not the first time that's happened: Now i'm 115867
Sometimes, I'm just 503936 and other times I'm my email address! Like I say in the above thread, how can a SSO glitch change my handle? Stuuuuuuuuupid forum software!

  • Who the Hell wrote this crappy forum software?

Ya, I knowm it says Jive.
This forum refuses to work with Opera, either for Windblows or Solaris 10 x86 Unix.  This area for entering the post does not show up.
I had to start Exploder and I HATE Exploder.
What is even more stupid is the catch-22 in that the forum software is used for the feedback.  If the forum is broken, how the Hell is someone supposed to be able to let anyone know that it is broken.
If Adobe wants great forum software, they should use what AVSForum uses.  It works with any and all browsers.

it's not the tools, it's the carpenters.
Oh, it's the tools too, people just like to make excuses for and rationalize for "cool" stuff.  If it's simple AJAX and DHTML without too much crazy going on (i.e. not these forums), you might get away okay on a web site.  I'm not opposed to it on a website as long as it always works...
I'm speaking mostly from an RIA (rich internet application) use case, which gets much more complicated than a stupid website.  A 'forum' like this blurs the distinction a bit, especially when they try to do the crap they're attempting in this jiveware.  AJAX isn't well suited for creating real RIAs, for sure.  (Here comes the AJAX fanboys to dispute...)  Once people realize that these 'frameworks' they're using (because they've already discovered that using AJAX/DHTML/DOM crap themselves sucks @$$) don't address the need to test, update, re-build, re-deploy, and test your "AJAX application" (it's like saying ".bat application") EVERY single time you have a new version of a browser come out--or a new type of browser entirely--perhaps they'll start to realize what the hidden cost of such muppetry is going to be over time.  (And I can't wait for the browser wars to heat up even more again.)
Of course you could just "hope" that most of your users browsers will continue to work correctly (maybe almost 100% even will! lol), without testing and updating if needed, but then you get Jiveware.
Don't get me wrong, with Jiveware, it's most certainly the carpenters more so than anything.  It may even be possible to develop decent 'forum' software using AJAX hacks (sparingly), since a "forum" is arguably not such a complex application.  (They are however more complex than most people imagine.)  But crap tools tend to bring out the fail in the term "incompetent failure jiveware scripter".   Crap tools reveal the difference between someone who doesn't know what they're doing at all (jiveware jives), and someone who actually does have some idea of what they're doing more clearly than good tools do.

  • Can i use osx lion server as a server for my online forum business? if so, what else do i need to get up and running. i know i need forum software. any suggestions?

hello fellow apple lovers. I am in desperate need of advice. I am going to be starting an online forum business in the coming weeks. I was wondering if osx lion server would be able to function as my business server. I also need mac compatible forum software. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bryan

If you have to use old Digidesign now Avid stuff, try to get hold of a DIGI 003 or a MBox pro. The 002 really sounds horrific (no offense) and I doubt it will be of any use in ML, even the MBox pro sounds better……..
By the way, I thought that since ProTools 9 one could use any hardware of choice in combo. If you must use PTools, I would defiantly look for a more up to date hardware and Avid wouldn't be my first choice!
    Have a nice day!

  • Forum Formatting Glitch - Inline Italics

Using IE9 whenever I embed italicized words in a sentence I see them jam against the following word.
Do these words seem spaced properly to you or do the italicized words seem jammed against the words that follow?
Do these words seem spaced properly to you or do the italicized words seem jammed against the words that follow?
This is a basic formatting glitch - possibly having to do with the font choice - that should never be seen in this millenium from a company that actually does graphics and even makes fonts.
Here's a screen grab of what I see:
    -Noel

Thanks.  Since IE9 is the current browser on the current Windows OS, this leads me to wonder...
Did anyone actually test the proposed forum changes on a PC before putting them online?
Did the private beta testers actually report anything?
Did the forum implementers actually pay attention to anything that was reported?
What is the time pressure to put updates to the web forum software online before it is fully debugged?
I'm sorry for being critical, but basic broken things like this showing up in one of the most popular browsers on the planet should embarrass the hell out of Adobe.
Edit:  Make that TWO of the most popular browsers.  This is captured from FireFox 12.0 on Windows:

  • HT1343 if one is using windows 8.1 on a boot camped mac and you are using a mac keyboard . How does one unlock the numbers  on the larger wired keyboard ( numbers keys to the right of the keyboard) instead of having to use the numbers at the top of the ke

Question: I am using a mac , wired Keyboard, on  a windows 8.1 platform ( this is because I have boot camped my hard drive) Unfortunately when I change over from my mac set up into the windows 8.1 the key board does not behave like it does when I am using as a mac. The numbers , on the right of the keyboard , no longer function and I have to use the numbers at the top of the keyboard, very annoying. Can anybody let me know how I unlock the numbers on the right of my keyboard?
    Regards CM

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

My Question now is this, get an 8 core, then replace with 2 3.7 QUAD CHIPS, what would happen?
I also noticed that the 8 core Mac Pro is 3.0 when in fact they do have a 3.4 8 core chip, so 2 =16? Shouldn't the IP address be on the box you bought the machine in? If you have the box, take it to the police as evidence that it's your machine. If I were you, I would set the firmware password when you get it back, but make sure you have the password written down in a safe place. If you forget it, there's only two ways to reset it. Either pay $400+ for the tool that can do it, or pay almost nothing for Apple to do it, I think it depends on where you live. The firmware password is this encrypted password and it can't be hacked either. The password prevents anyone from booting the machine into recovery mode, thus preventing them from restoring the computer to factory settings or performing any other functions. It's not stored in the hard drive so replacing that will be of no use either.
I hope you get your Mac back and I hope this was helpful!

First of all i am not sure if i should post this here, sorry if it is the wrong place.

    Thanks in advance

Actually this is a rather nice product. It's the custom features created by (or for) Sun that cause the problems.

To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer."  Even though the printer has worked fine for two years up until today.  I re-downloaded the driver from Epson, installed and still the same thing.

I use an Epson 3880.  After upgrading to Lion, I had to upgrade/re-install the Epson printer drivers.  All work now.
There was a glitch in the installation, but I can't remember right now.
OP:  did you get the newest drivers -- for Mountain Lion?  did you uninstall the Epson 3880 before re-installing with the newest drivers?  have you rebooted?
