Forum Software used to set up Apple discussion?

Can anyone tell me what software was used to set up this forum? I like the format and would like to have simular layout on my website's forum.

These boards run on Jive Software.

  • Who the Hell wrote this crappy forum software?

Ya, I knowm it says Jive.
This forum refuses to work with Opera, either for Windblows or Solaris 10 x86 Unix.  This area for entering the post does not show up.
I had to start Exploder and I HATE Exploder.
What is even more stupid is the catch-22 in that the forum software is used for the feedback.  If the forum is broken, how the Hell is someone supposed to be able to let anyone know that it is broken.
If Adobe wants great forum software, they should use what AVSForum uses.  It works with any and all browsers.

Oh, it's the tools too, people just like to make excuses for and rationalize for "cool" stuff.  If it's simple AJAX and DHTML without too much crazy going on (i.e. not these forums), you might get away okay on a web site.  I'm not opposed to it on a website as long as it always works...
I'm speaking mostly from an RIA (rich internet application) use case, which gets much more complicated than a stupid website.  A 'forum' like this blurs the distinction a bit, especially when they try to do the crap they're attempting in this jiveware.  AJAX isn't well suited for creating real RIAs, for sure.  (Here comes the AJAX fanboys to dispute...)  Once people realize that these 'frameworks' they're using (because they've already discovered that using AJAX/DHTML/DOM crap themselves sucks @$$) don't address the need to test, update, re-build, re-deploy, and test your "AJAX application" (it's like saying ".bat application") EVERY single time you have a new version of a browser come out--or a new type of browser entirely--perhaps they'll start to realize what the hidden cost of such muppetry is going to be over time.  (And I can't wait for the browser wars to heat up even more again.)
Of course you could just "hope" that most of your users browsers will continue to work correctly (maybe almost 100% even will! lol), without testing and updating if needed, but then you get Jiveware.
Don't get me wrong, with Jiveware, it's most certainly the carpenters more so than anything.  It may even be possible to develop decent 'forum' software using AJAX hacks (sparingly), since a "forum" is arguably not such a complex application.  (They are however more complex than most people imagine.)  But crap tools tend to bring out the fail in the term "incompetent failure jiveware scripter".   Crap tools reveal the difference between someone who doesn't know what they're doing at all (jiveware jives), and someone who actually does have some idea of what they're doing more clearly than good tools do.

  • What Has Happened to Apple Discussions?

Apple Discussions web site. It seems that every single day periods of a few minutes to a few hours go by with Discussions "tempoarily unavailable." When it is available, it is often abysmally slow. Offhand, I cannot think of another web site with performance like this, although Dell discussions had similar problems a few years ago and was a contender for the title.
An occasional word of explanation would be welcomed by those who time after time are unable to connect to Apple Discussions.
    Bob N.

    Robnich,
I bet they are working on Apple Discussions to make your and others experiences better. If you noticed when those "temporarily unavailable" messages appear that it is during the "off hours" of the average persons day. Usually it is during the day when most people are at work (mid day) and late night/early morning around 2ish. I have noticed the occasional slow down, but I have also noticed the same effect with other forums. If you remember what Apple Discussions was like after the switch; it is 101% better. You may want to try deleting the Apple Discussions cookies and then going back.

  • Can I use the Apple Discussion software?

I have my own web server and I was looking for some good forum software. I usually use phpBB. However, I started dreaming of forum software that would be great and remembered how much I like the Apple Discussions forums.
I am sure the answer is no, but it does not hurt to ask. Does Apple have any plans to make their forums software available for other people to use?
If this is not the proper forum for this topic, I apologize. It did not seem to fit anywhere else.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

I agree. I am never sure when to mark something as a question because it may be quick or it may be a hard one and trying to decide who gets credit for what comments seems like a lot more work than I am looking for usually.
You had a definite Question. I do not see the confusion in marking it as such
clearly you did, it certainly was not a statement. Others do the work to help.

  • Jive Software, used for Apple's Forum, about Safari 2.0.4

Despite Jive being used to make the Apple forum and the EA forum, Safari 2.0.4 seems to not like EA's Forum. There are images across the top of EA's forum page that visualize the code for some of the images=links.
I will copy and paste them here:
    Expand Expand
Not sure what that will produce... about to see for myself, after this post message button is pressed.
I was was simply wondering if the code is bad for that page or is Safari at fault. My gut says EA is at fault, but.... the EA forum visualizes just fine on Windows XP with Firefox.
~I thought I had posted this message before not long ago... or did I close the tab prematurely... or was it deleted...??? Moments from now, I may be able to make that determination.
Thanks for the insight into determining if Safari or the other is not performing well.
++Well, preview did allow me to see the included code pasted. hmmmm interesting

well, I had my thoughts all jumbled up like jumbliah, it seems. While the EA forum is irratic and the BF pages have the images I was refering to. In case you want to determine if I'm a clown or perhaps this visual problem is only for me to endure.... here's the site with the images across the top:
    http://www.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/
The forum, well... it's a different beast which perhaps has trouble keeping up to real time data due to traffic. Yet sometimes, I cannot open/connect to the forum page at all.

  • Apple discussion forums

How do I close my Forum account on on Apple discussions?
Reason why, is I'm I'm fed up with the 'new' look, and I'm constantly getting spammed by the forum...  Even though I don't have any notifications set.
Also, I suspect some milieus activity napping as well..
Is there a way to close my account? Otherwise, i'll change me email and update it, where it matters.

It doesn't make a bit of difference how defiant you are — there still won't be any way to close your ASC account. Your username (alias) and your posts will remain. The forums have no feature enabling you to remove them. If you stop using your forum login and someone else continues to do so, posting while pretending to be you, or if charges show up in your iTunes or App Store accounts for things you didn't purchase, then you will know that someone has gotten access to your Apple ID and Apple will take appropriate action to stop them. Meanwhile, you are free to create a new Apple ID at any time and use it instead of the old one, if you have other uses you wish to make of it, such as using the iTunes Store or App Store. Your old Apple ID will remain on the books. It can't be removed. You can change its password at any time, even if you have no intention of using it.

  • What Software Runs The Apple Discussion Boards?

I really like the way the Apple Discussion boards work. They've seemed a bit slow this weekend, but other than that, I like how the system operates. I recently was comparing a bunch of forum software:
    http://www.forummatrix.org/
None of the programs out there have the ease and elegance of the Apple discussion forums.
So, how can I setup a forum using the same system Apple has?

Interesting that Jive doesn't list Apple among their customers:

  • ICloud accidentally set-up with erroneous email acct. How do I reset the email originally used to start the Apple ID? I'm stuck in a loop...

Hi Apple friends! Here's my frustrating situation. When I got the new computer (2012 Macbook Pro), I tried to set up iCloud but accidentally input an erroneous email acct. I cannot access iClod because the email was accidentally input as "[email protected]", not "[email protected]". How do I reset the email originally used to start the Apple ID? I'm stuck in a loop, and not only cannot use iCloud, but I keep getting messages popping up to register my iCloud with a non-existent email...
    Help?
    Sincerely,
    Cole
    [email protected]

Have you tried to go into System Preferences > iCloud and entering the correct information there? You will first have to "sign out" of the wrong account and then log in with the correct information.
If that does not work you should direct follow up to the iCloud for Mac forum.

how can i set up apple account on my iphone 4 so i can use icloud between my iphone and ipad

To set up iCloud on the iPhone and iPad, ensure your software for these devices is up to date.  Once it is, see the following article - http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

  • Is there a way to determine the Apple ID used to set up an iPod Touch?

Hi, I am helping a friend with a new computer to sync his iPod Touch 4th generation and update to iOS 5.1 hopefully. The iPod is running the iOS version that as on it out of the box. 4.x.x. Never updated.
He does not know if his Apple ID was used to set up his iTouch or the ID of the person who did the original setup. I've read some discussions about people who are locked out of a computer for 90 days if it is associated with a different ID. Trying to avoid this on his new computer. He has Windows 7 Home Premium 64 on the new unit if that is helpful.
We downloaded the latest version on iTunes and reset the password on his Apple ID two days ago. I hesitiate to move forward with the iPod sync as I don't want to lock him out of the iTunes store for 90 days if we use the wrong ID.
Thanks for any help. I know this is an unusual situation. Goal is to set him up on one ID and stay there. Thanks again.

If you have turned on Settings > iCloud > Find My you will have to start by turning that off - requires entering the Apple ID password.  Then remove the Apple ID from all places it is used, i.e., Messages, FaceTime, and so on.  Go to the App Store and then Sign Out.  Now you can enter the desired Apple ID and password in all of those places.

  • How can I recover an old/disused iCloud account. I was having some issues with my apple id so I restored my iPad, I am now stuck on the activation screen as I no longer use the iCloud account i used to set up the iPad and can't remember the address or pas

How can I recover an old/disused iCloud account. I was having some issues with my apple id so I restored my iPad, I am now stuck on the activation screen as I no longer use the iCloud account i used to set up the iPad and can't remember the address or pas

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • Login issue in Apple Discussion Forum - Safari Only

I can no longer log into my Discussions Forum account using Safari (3.1.2). When I log in I am taken to the Create New User page, where I get stuck in a loop. I can log into my account just fine using Firefox 3, which is what I'm using to write this.
Please do not offer generic suggestions if you are not familiar with this specific issue. I don't want to hear advice about clearing my cache and cookies, etc. This issue has been reported several times in these forums and nobody has offered a viable solution.

    Hi Walter
Forum software is not very multi-user friendly, nor (for sanity sake) encouraged. As you've discovered, switching from one user account to another requires deleting forum related cookies before logging in.
Curious why you have more than one user account?

  • Can i use osx lion server as a server for my online forum business? if so, what else do i need to get up and running. i know i need forum software. any suggestions?

hello fellow apple lovers. I am in desperate need of advice. I am going to be starting an online forum business in the coming weeks. I was wondering if osx lion server would be able to function as my business server. I also need mac compatible forum software. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bryan

If you have to use old Digidesign now Avid stuff, try to get hold of a DIGI 003 or a MBox pro. The 002 really sounds horrific (no offense) and I doubt it will be of any use in ML, even the MBox pro sounds better……..
By the way, I thought that since ProTools 9 one could use any hardware of choice in combo. If you must use PTools, I would defiantly look for a more up to date hardware and Avid wouldn't be my first choice!
    Have a nice day!

  • Which APPLE ID to use for setting up iCloud? ETC.

    Hello,
I have upgraded my iMac to the latest operating system (OS X LION version 10.7.4). iTunes is the lastest version. I still have iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. I reckon I have to download the recommended version (iPhoto '11 version 9.2 or later). CAN I DO THIS AFTER MOVING to iCloud?
I have had a MOBILEME account for many years. And they have been sending me e-mails to that account prompting me to upgrade in order to KEEP my Mobileme account. As I mentioned above, I have pretty much upgraded everything except for iPhoto.
Recently, I bought an iPad2. When I bought it, the technician helped me to get it set up and running. I did not have an iTunes account yet. I didn't realize that the Mobileme account could be used as an APPLE ID. SO, at that time, he set up my ipad2 using another e-mail address that I have. Hence that is being used for the APP STORE and the iTUNES store.
HOW do I coordinate these 2 different e-mail addresses now, i.e. APPLE IDS, per se??? I want to keep that Mobileme e-mail account. So should I respond to the MOVE TO iCLOUD e-mails being sent to that account and use that as an APPLE ID. And if I do that, what happens to the APPLE ID being used to access my itunes/App store accounts....... YIKES....... I reckon I am not the only person out there with this dilemma.
Or maybe I am just making it way too difficult. Please advise how to bring this all together to utilize this wonderful new service called iCloud!!!!

To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photosstream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
If you have made purchases under the current ID that you use for your iTunes account, you will need to continue to use that, otherwise you will lose those purchases. You can then choose whether to use that ID or migrate your MobileMe ID to use with your iCloud account.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
