Forums in iWeb?

I would like to create my site but have people reply back through forums. Is that possible?

iWeb doesn't provide a forum template, but you could hyperlink from your iWeb site to a free, web-based forum such as:
http://www.lefora.com
...or:
http://about.ning.com/product.php
"Your Own Discussion Forum — Add a rich single or multi-threaded discussion forum with categories, photos and attachments to your social network. Limit forum topic creation to you or open it up to all of your members.

    Thaks a lot.

    Pablo,
I think the best choice for what you are trying to do is 1&1 Webhosting. You will like the pricing, the domain options, and they offer a forum/blog app that works great. You also mentioned something about third party ftp in your other post; you will enjoy the flexibility that can be achieved if you are using something like GoLive or DreamWeaver. Getting and putting files is not an issue, and you can also set up password protection with 1&1 as well.

  • Looking for a way to add a forum to IWeb

I am creating a neighborhood site for the community I live in. One of the other people helping me organize it had a great idea about adding a community forum/message board for people to communicate on.
Does anyone know if this can be done? Any examples out there?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Will

    Hi Will,
    he used http://www.simplemachines.org/
Which can't be used on .Mac, if you publish to .Mac, because as far as I know it needs a MySQL database and php support and .Mac doesn't provide any of these features.
And I guess he then embedded it into the iWeb page using an iFrame
    http://iframes.iwebfaq.org/
If you publish to .Mac you can use
    http://www.forumfree.com/
    http://www.freeforums.org/
    or any other
    http://www.google.ch/search?hl=en&q=freeforum%2Bhost&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
    and use iFrames.

  • Using forums with IWEB

    Hey everyone,
I was wondering if forums are compatible with iweb. I want to create my own forums. If so what is recommended in making a forum.
    thank you

    Here is mine

I still have a great deal of work to do compared to all your wonderful pages that I have looked at.
I intend to later do some cool adjustment as I learn more.
Comments would be really nice too !!

  • Examples of using phpbb forum with iWeb site?

I'm in the process of converting my site to iWeb using a non .mac host and I'd love to see some examples of anyone using a phpbb forum with their site.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Mireille,
I know that iWeb won't support the forum per say but I should be able just have that specific page of my site point to the forum (not using iweb). I was just curious if anyone has done this and if they had any advice. Hopefully someday iweb will support forums as its a large part of sites like mine. I remember reading about the iframe so I'll look into that too. Thanks!

  • Forum for iweb

I wanted to know if you can get a template page for iweb that gives you a forum on your website?
For my site I would like people viewing to be able to add there own comments and this is not possible on the blog page.
If you can help or have any information then let me know.

For my site I would like people viewing to be able to
add there own comments and this is not possible on
    the blog page.
I don't know about a forum, but if all you want to do is let people add comments check out iComment 3. it is ( I find ) the easiest way.
Every comment link, is blog ( or page ) specific.
    iComment needs a HaloScan account.

  • Paid Membership to a  Forum within iWeb

    Hi,
I have an iWeb website which is forwarding to a Godady domain name.
I'd like to set up a forum that requires a paid subscription on iWeb.
    Any ideas?
    Bill

I guess it's not possible. Will try elsewhere.

  • Can I set up a forum with iweb?

I'm looking to set up a forum as part of a college project and I was wondering if it is possible to do this with iweb10.
If it isn't does anyone know a free software that I can use?

Okay, firstly you have posted this is the wrong forum - this forum is for questions regarding iWeb 06 so you need to post this in the iWeb 09 forum. Also, please note that iWeb 10 does not exist. There is iWeb 09 and iLife has just been updated to iLife 11.
No, you cannot use a forum directly in iWeb itself. If you use an external server to publish to somewhere like GoDaddy, then they have forums that you can install on their servers such as PHBB. You set this up and then you can create a link to it from your iWeb site or insert the forum into your site as an iframe.
For free forums just do a Google search.

  • IWeb Forum?

What is the best way to create a forum using iWeb? Is there any 3rd party software that will allow you to design it and then copy code into an html snippet?

  • I am trying to edit my website which was composed in iweb. I have my website saved on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't seem to load the website folder into iweb for editing purposes. Anyone know a quick solution to this?

I am trying to edit my website which, was composed on iweb about 2 years ago. I have the website stored on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't figure out how to load the website into iweb for editing purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You need to migrate to a modern, supported webpage development application and leave iWeb behind.  It hasn't been supported for 2 years now and was behind the curve feature wise when it was dropped by Apple.
One app that many have migrated to because it is very similar to iWeb in the GUI and features is Everweb.  It has a demo version that you can try.  Text and photos from you current published site can be copied and pasted into Everweb to help the migration over.
There are other possible candidates.  Just search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement" to get a list of topics discussing them.

  • Is it possible to make an iWeb site accessible to mobile phones? (in Japan)

Is it possible to make an iWeb site accessible to mobile phones? (I'm in Japan)
I've tried making a tiny site but my own phone (au A5516T by Toshiba) can't display it.
The URL is accepted but displays just a white blank screen.
I can't see anything about it in this iWeb forum or iWeb Help. Which I guess means that either it's impossible or that it's so elementary I shouldn't have to ask!
Is there some special code involved?
    Any hints much appreciated. Thanks.

    Can I create a forum(online community) using iWeb '08?

iWeb itself doesn't offer a way to do this, but consider opening a forum at free, web-based Lefora and hyperlinking from your iWeb site to it:
    http://www.lefora.com
And as an alternative to setting up a basic text or image hyperlink to your external forum, you can link to it directly from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page named "Forum" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Forum page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourforumname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Forum" in iWeb's navbar will immediately redirect to your external forum page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

  • IWeb can't find previous pages after transfer/reinstall

I recently got a "new" (read: my husband's previous) MacBook Pro and lost some of my files/folders due to a problem during the transfer.  I had to reinstall iWeb and now it won't find the pages I had created and published previously with it.  The pages are in their own folder (SuzWebPages) as I had to manually restore them instead of letting the computer copy everything over.  When I open iWeb, it can't find the pages.  I have looked through other help topics on this and tried moving the SuzWebPages folder to the iWeb folder in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and renaming it to a .sites2 file, but iWeb still doesn't see the folder/site/pages and opens with the choose a new page screen.  When I right-click and choose Open With on the actual pages, iWeb is grayed out.
I went from Yosemite 10.10.1 to the same version.  I had to reinstall many programs which did not transfer or were corrupted, such as MS Word, Safari, and Mail, but all were able to find my previous files although none retained my information.
Any suggestions?  I can provide any further information needed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Suz

The file/package you need to have for use with iWeb is called Domain.sites2.  The folder containing your published webpages is of no use with iWeb.
If you still have your old Mac go to your Home/Library/Applications Support folder and look for the iWeb folder. It will have the domain file you need.  Copy the iWeb folder to the same location on your new Mac and launch iWeb.
Otherwise you'll have to rebuild your webpage from scratch.  If you have to do that I suggest you switch over to a new web development application as iWeb has been discontinued for about 2 years.
One app that many have migrated to because it is so like iWeb in its user interface and how it works (but with many more features) is EverWeb.  There's a 30 day demo version that you can try to see if you like it.  To recreate your website with it you can copy text and photos from your existing site and paste into the EverWeb version.
For other potential iWeb replacement apps search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement".
