Forward button on Captivate playbar

Is there a way to highlight the Forward button in the Captivate playbar when the end of a slide is reached? I've noticed that other tools seem to have this capability and I would like to do something similar with my Captivate projects.

Thanks for the suggestions to use navigation buttons (I understood that it was implied to turn off the playbar). However, our team recently decided to stop using navigation buttons on the slides and to use the playbar because we liked the look and feel much more. The other tools cannot do what Captivate can, so it is not feasible to use them to accomplish this. We just wanted a way to let the user know (other than the fact that the narration stopped) that they can or should progress to the next slide. I don't want the navigation to be hidden or disabled before the end of the slide because there may be instances (like in a course review), where they need to move forward quickly. It's probably only a few seconds before they realize they should move on, but a new user passed on that feedback, so we wanted to see if there was a way to address it.

Actually there is a way to change it.
Sorry to long before seeing this.
First, complete your project and publish it.
Next go into the published folder and look for the folder: assets
Now, go into the folder. js
Right click the file: CPPlaybar.js and open with Notepad
Scroll down to where you see playbar.toolTips
Look for: playbar.toolTips['Forward'] = ["Forward ", etc.
Change the second "forward" to Next or whatever term you want
Then click File / Save
Now here's the difference or the catch: This will only work and show "Next" as the tool tip on the Forward button if you run the file: index.html
It will not work if you run the file that has your project name.html
I believe that requires editing the playbar's FLA file. This is for the HTML version of your project.
Hope that helps, and yes, you should be able to edit any other playbar names.

No Audio in internet explorer, captivate playbar close button not working

I did a simulation video in adobe captivate 5.5, on uploading it to Netdimension s LMS, the course plays audio via firefox but wont play audio from Internet explorer.
Also Firefox autoresumes from where the user last stops but won't in Internet explorer. Also the exit button in my captivate playbar doesnt work neither in my internet explorer browser nor firefox.
I also noticed that the LMS didnt mark the course completed after taking all the slides.
Please help!

Hi there
My guess is that you are opening those from version 3 in a different manner than you are the version 4 sims. As I understand it (and as explained in the link) the ability to close a window is dependent on the browser as well as the manner in which the window was opened to begin with.
I suggest you begin by scrutinizing what is different about the version 3 files that you are seeing. Where are you running them from? How are you displaying them?

Need AS3 Widget Hide/Show Forward Button on Playbar

I found an AS2 set of widgets that will Hide/Show each button on the Playbar. I need this for AS3 for Captivate 5.5.
Some pages we want it and others we do not.
Has anyone created this type of widget for AS3?

Forward Button Not Available Until All Buttons Clicked in Slide

I'm attempting to create a slide where several buttons or rollover slidelets are available to the user. Each button/slidelet will need to be viewed before they are able to continue to the next slide.
For example, the slide has 3 button/slidelets on it which each represent a word. Each button/slidelet would need to be clicked before the user could proceed to the next slide.
How can I disable the forward button functionality on the playbar until each of the buttons/slidelets have been viewed?

There are a few different ways this might be accomplished. If your goal is to remain entirely in Captivate, you might consider configuring an Advanced Action to do the work for you. You could reposition the playhead upon entering the next slide based on a variable you set.
Alternatively, you could hide the Playback Controls until all the elements have been interacted with.

Captivate playbar double-skipping slides

I am having issues with the default captivate playbar double-skipping slides when moving forwards or backwards in the playbar in a SCORM odule converted from pptx.
I have tried with different playbars in skins and having the same problem.
Please help!

Hi there
That's typical behavior for the playbar. It traverses from slide to slide.
What you could do is to forego the Captivate supplied playbar and use your own buttons that you program as you want. You simply insert them on each slide and configure as desired.

My e-learning consists of 40 slides. I am publishing the project as HTML5, while previewing, when I use the back button on the playbar, there is an audio mismatch. Some other audio is played for that slide. Please help.

Need forward button to only appear after slide is viewed

For Education purposes I dont want my students to be able to forward through the course without viewing all of the information. So I remove the forward button on the skin editor. This creates a problem if the student clicks return on accident or only wants to hear the beginning of the previous slide. They now have to watch the entire course or page again. i have tried to create an Advanced action on enter to show a hidden button if the slide was last viewed or else hide but this does not work bc if they go back multiple slides the button only shows on the slide they go back to.
I can achive this by creating a variable and advanced action per slide but this will require me to make one variable and action for each page.
So what I need is one button (goes to next slide when clicked) that is on every page (entire program) but only shows if the user goes back to that page (its been previouly viewed). There has to be a one button one action to achive this.... But its beyond me... is it beyond you too????

The back and forward buttons on Logitech mouse don't work

My logitech performance MX back and forward buttons don't work. I tried in safe mode and they still don't work. I tried creating a custom shortcut in logitech setpoint and that didn't work either. I tried using the native mouse driver and not logitech. No luck.
I really like this functionality. Is there a way to enable these buttons?

i'm not sure if this will help but how about this add-on called "Vimperator". It is easy to use and works like vim. (Try this as an alternate till we figure out the problem) :)

Color Buttons in Captivate 5

Is there any way to change the color of a button in Captivate 5? I see the text options but nothing for the button itself; does this mean buttons will need to be imported or created outside of Captivate?

In previous occasions when I've every created my own customised rollover buttons and added them to Cp's button gallery I only ever needed to select the Up state button. As long as I had named all the buttons correctly and they were the right BMP or PNG format and bit depth, Cp would look after making sure the other two button states were present at runtime.
Can I just confirm a few details:
Your buttons are either BMP 24bit, or PNG 32 bit (that's what the other buttons in the Gallery seem to be)
You have strictly followed the naming convention of my_button_up.bmp, my_button_down.bmp, my_button_over.bmp and used all lower case.
You have loaded the buttons into the correct folder location in the install file location at: Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5\Gallery\Buttons
You selected whichever version of the button Captivate shows you in the menu
You tried to view it in published HTML/SWF not just in the Preview window
Just so that we're all on the same page and know we've covered off all the obvious reasons why this might not be working.

Pixelation of Built In Buttons in Captivate 6

All,
I am creating a new E-learning course in a resolution of 995 x 627 which after much research have found to be the best resoultion. I am having some issues with pixelation that is weird and wanted to bounce it off the group.
I am using the built in buttons in captivate 6 for navigations. If i resize any of the buttons even with using the SHIFT key, I see a lot of pixelation or the buttons seems blurry.
Can anyone tell me a way to fix this issue as i dont want to increase the resolution size of this project?

Hello,
The 'old' buttons, think you are talking about those, are bitmap (format bmp) and think that is the cause. Just some ideas: did you try out the shapes (vector based) and use them as buttons? You have a lot more possibilities for customizing, and I find them showing up a lot crisper. Moreover they can be used on master slides, if you are talking about navigation, which is not possible with the old buttons. Or you can set them on the first slide and display for the rest of the project. I am finishing a blog post about using shape buttons on master slides.

With version 5 of Firefox, if I open more than 1 session, most of the time I cannot see anything in the navigation bar and my back and forward buttons do not work.

I open 1 session of Firefox 5.0.1 and everything seems to work fine. Then I open a second session of Firefox and most of the time the navigation bar does not show the page that I am on and the back and forward buttons do not work. When this happens, the first session always remains working. I am an internet marketer so I have at least 2 or 3 sessions going at any given time.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

In my current Firefox, the "new tab" icon/item from the "customize" pop-up window menu of items is placed next to my home, back, forward buttons near the top-left of my header (Button 1 for "new tab"). Then, the tab bar automatically come with a small tab (with a + sign) to the right of your last tab opened (so you click on + and a new tab opens. Button 2 for "new tab"). I like to have this "new tab" button twice (as a + mini tab, and next to my "home icon".
When I upgraded to Firefox 4, I seemed to be only able to "customize" or use the "new tab" in one place. Either as an icon next to home button, or as a "+ minitab", but NOT both.
What can I do to put this button in Firefox 4 on BOTH places???

How do I go back to my old version of Firefox. 4 does not allow me to use two finger mousepad control to expand or contract my screen. Also I don't like the lack of a drop-down arrow next to the back/forward buttons.

I don't like to have to click and drag to see the drop down history of the back/forward buttons - this requires two fingers or a double tap and hold finger motion. MUCH easier to click and release and take my time to pick the screen I want to go back to, then click on that link with a separate motion.
I especially don't like that I can no longer expand and contract the screen with two finger motion on my mousepad!!!
Generally, I don't see any advantage to the new layout - and I have a slight preference to having my tabs closer to the screen rather than above the address bar, since I more frequently click on tabs than on the address bar. If you want to improve the view I would recommend combining the very topmost bar which is part of the window surround with the File Edit etc bar (and please keep File, Edit, View History, etc separated instead of putting them into a dropdown). This will allow the viewer one more line of text on a given webpage, and eliminate the wasted space which is only used to identify the window as FF and provide the close window buttons

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

How can I make appear the arrow-button that showed the recent history of a same tab (next to back and forward buttons)?

for instance, if I searched a word on google, then clicked on a certain page of the results, then inside that page I entered a link, etc if I wanted to "go back" directly to the instance of google searching I could click on this arrow-button and I would be able to choose that exact moment instead of clicking several times on the "back" till I reached the desired past page

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
* Right click on the Back or Forward button
* Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:
