Forward mail AND leave a local copy

Is it possible to forward email for a user AND leave a local copy in OSX mailbox?

if you aren't using virtual domains, then this is easy to set in /etc/aliases
If account is bob, you can set an alias of
     bob:  bob, [email protected]
this delivers to bob and forwards to the other address
update the alias db with
sudo postalias /etc/aliases

  • Forwarding email and must keep a copy..

I handle a lot of corporate email with user that have blackberry's, etc., and am required to forward and retain copies in there in box. My other servers have third party solutions, but I'm trying to get away from that because of the upgrade headaches every time a new OS X version is released.
Is there any way possible to set a virtual user to forward an email and retain a copy in his/her inbox? I've searched high and low, and what is just a click on other mail server software, doesn't seem to be available on mail for Snow Leopard. Any mod that can be made?

Your close... Basically, if an email comes in for [email protected], which is a virtual host, I want it to go to that users inbox, as well as forwarded on to another account(ie: a blackberry account for their push notification). Now multiply that times about 200 users all forwarding to different accounts, as well as keeping a copy in their inbox for their retrieval when they get back to their office. They still control everything related to the email in their accounts, they just require forwarding to their other accounts as well for some other purpose(mobility etc.)
Currently, the workgroup manager only allows a forward, and that's it. The docs mention Sieve, but state that it does not work for the virtual host aliases. Having two accounts with different names so it forwards to account 2, and to wherever else is just stupid, and unworkable in the corporate world. That would require two email addresses for everyone of these users.
So do postfix aliases handle this specifically? ... and if so where would I find this procedure?.. also, when the server is upgraded, will this will probably be overwritten, and continually be a problem in the future?
This is a fairly standard procedure on any other mail server.

  • ISync deleted local copy of Address book?

    Hello,
I did a Sync today and afterward the local copy of my address book is gone. It is still on dot-Mac. Just not on this machine. How do I get my contects back on this machine?

It happened also to me, and I had support from Apple. You should reset the iSync information on your computer (advanced tab in the .Mac system preference) and choose the option of restoring everything from the .Mac database.
    Hope it helps

  • Outlook 2007 sends local mail and non-spam to junk folder

I have exchange server 2003 on SBS with OWA and several outlook 2007 clients.  Email often seems to be sent to the junk mail folder by outlook 2007, especially when it comes from the exchange server (either local pickup or MAPI). This is definitely being done by the outlook client, since it never happens when the client is not running (for example, if outlook is not running and I use OWA, local email is never delivered to the junk mail folder).
I turned off junk email filtering in outlook, and forced the local domain to the whitelist (outlook refuses to add it with the gui, saying it's my local domian, so I imported it from a file), and it still happens before and after.
    Any ideas?

If it's a local machine, try setting the account to not use cached mode. That should force utilization of Exchange's rules.
    1.       Go to Tools >Account Settings
    2.       Highlight your Exchange Account and click “Change”
    3.       Uncheck “Use cached Exchange Mode”
    4.       Click Next and finish
Note, this will not work well on a laptop that leaves the building, as it requires a connection with the server to view mail content.

  • Quotes and Graphics in Forwarded mail Received as Attachments

When I forward mail, often inline graphics like company logos show up as attachments and are not displayed where they show up on my computer and and often, but not always, several levels of quoted messages show up on the recipients PCs as either text or html file attachments and are also not displayed as quoted text. When the message is forwarded back to me it looks fine on my Macbook Pro. This seems to be a fairly recent problem. It also seems to be kind of hit and miss. At my company everybody complains. I've called up others who were copied the same message and it displayed OK for them. What can I do?
Snow Leopard 10.6.7, Mac Mail 4.5. Messages mostly sent/received via Microsoft Exchange Server.

With recipients using Outlook or Outlook Express, this is common behavior with messages heavily laden with HTML or RTF when forwarded. Probably will work if before sending you click on Format in the menubar and choose Make Plain Text. Assumes the HTML/RTF not critical, of course.

  • Automatically Save Local Copy of Sent Mail (IMAP)

Hello - I use an IMAP account (several, actually) but want to save a local copy of all messages (incoming & sent). Mail seems to do this easily for incoming mail but not at all for sent mail, which seems odd and makes me think I'm just missing something. Am I?
To be clear, the IMAP sent mailbox and its corresponding folder in Mail work fine (I know how to set up "use this mailbox for..."): what I want to do is duplicate the contents of that mailbox on my mac automatically (i.e. don't want to continually have to copy messages and remember what's copied and what's not etc.).
Also what's up with not being able to apply rules to mailboxes? Is that fixed in 10.6 version? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Mike - I find the bcc option kind of inelegant and overly elaborate for what should be fairly simple, but in the absence of anything else I guess it's worth a try. On the "rules don't work" front what I meant was that there is no apparent option to apply rules to mailboxes: this issue would be solved if I could say "if mailbox is sent/imap, copy message to sent/on my mac" but the available conditions in rules don't include mailboxes. You know of anything I can do about that? I'd love it if I could get this worked out without having to create 2 copies of every sent message just to save one...

  • Mountain Lion Mail randomly deletes messages: locally and from server

    Hello,
Mountain Lion Mail deletes mails randomly, locally and from the IMAP server.
I have confirmed this for a fact:
    - I have been forwarded lost mails to another (webmail) account: the timestamps indicate that some mails were lost somewhere before I ever saw them on Mail
    - my mail service provider confirmed that their logs show mails that I never saw on Mail
    - the lost mails don't appear via webmail, either, i.e. they're not on the server
Others are experiencing the same in Lion:
    http://www.seifi.org/email/lion-mail-app-deletes-imap-emails-without-notice-gmai l-important-fix.html
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206902
I became aware of this as my customer referred on the phone to messages from them that I had never seen. And, Mail deletes messages randomly from the IMAP server too - it's literally eating messages!
No, this is not a rule issue. No, this is not anything I could have done to cause. This should be evident as very many others are experiencing the same (see the above links).
This is the worst bug I've ever encountered in any Apple product.
Apple need to acknowledge this and address it, like, immediately.
Is there a fix for this? One that works 100% - I really can't risk not receiving business e-mail.
    br Janne

I'm experiencing something similar. I see a message being received in Mountain Lion via notification. When I'm going to look for this mail, it's gone.
I dont't have any rules set up and no mail plugins installed. The mail is also vanished from the server. I'm using IMAP on my own web-site (via a service provider). I was able to verify, that a certain message from a certain sender dissapeard, which had a PDF attached. I thought it might have something to do with my ISPs virus protection, but they a) insured me, that they don't delete any mail and b) I got a new mail from someone I don't know this morning. Again: Saw the notification, afterwards the mail is gone.
For now, I will switch to ThunderBird (this was also the recommendation of my ISP).
    Kind regards
    Marco Heine

Sometimes when sending a mail it will go more often it won't go, it doesn't seem to be relevant  to my geographic position and the message" a copy has been placed in your Outbox. The sender address" my email blah blah" was rejected by the server"     . Any ideas?

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • I want to forward a message with the default headers included, but can't seem to set my mail preferences to include the headers when forwarding, just the original message ends up in the forwarded message and not the headers?

I want to forward a message with the default headers included, but can’t seem to set my mail preferences to include the headers when forwarding, just the original message ends up in the forwarded message and not the headers?  What I'm trying to do is report SPAM and add headers to a spam message to forward to sites that go after the spammers.

Did you check the article and the add-on mentioned there?

I have an Apple16GB with BT Yahoo home page which had a box for mail and weather and further down I had my local weather, I have touched something and lost these boxes and my home page has changed  and I would like to get it back as it was. I have to admit to being useless at computers although I love my I Pad.

Is this the website that you are looking for? According to the very little bit of research that I did on this before responding to you, there have been changes made to the website and to the way that works ...if I read everything correctly.
    http://home.bt.com/
Did you have a shortcut to the website on your iPad home screen? If that is what you want to create again, navigate to that website in Safari and then tap the arrow icon next to the address/URL field at the top of the Safari toolbar. Form the window that will pop up, select - Add to Home Screen. That will put an icon on your home screen that will allow you to open directly to that page in Safari when you tap on it.

  • Need to copy text in e mail and paste to seperate word doc file

Previous to Firefox 4 I could highlight text in body of e mail, select Edit and drop down to copy then minimize screen and select Word Doc file, then paste and print text.

You have the orange Firefox button?
You can call up the classic menu bar ''temporarily'' by tapping the Alt key or pressing F10. To display the classic menu bar all the time, choose
View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
That will replace the orange Firefox button.
Also, you should be able to copy by right-clicking on the selected text and choosing Copy from the pop-up menu. Could be quicker in some cases.

  • How to create an identical local copy of a mail without attachments?

    Hi,
I would like to save a copy of an IMAP-Message to my db without the attachments.
As I cannot modify the original message, I tried to create a new MimeMessage with the constructor MimeMessage(MimeMessage source) and then remove the attachments - this works fine so far, but using this constructor only the body seems to get copied without subject, recipients or from-address.
Can anybody give me a hint how to create an identical local copy of a Message-Object? I would rather like to do this without installing any local third party providers.
    Regards
    Karsten

Sorry, found the problem - I did some things with the InputStream before I should not have - now the message gets saved without attachments and can be reopened.
