Forward normal text messages to iMessage?

As a Google Voice user, I've found that the experience on an iOS device is always lacking, mostly because the apps don't have the attention to detail that the Apple-designed apps have.  That being said, I'd like to know if there's a way to forward normal text messages (sent to my google voice number) to my Apple ID/iCloud account in order to have them show up in iMessage.  I'd imagine that there's some magic juju that goes on behind the scenes that identifies messages as normal SMS or apple's format, and routs them accordingly.  For the folks out there who have the ability to parse this sort of thing, is there a special way that iMessage handles messages (i.e. a specific/proprietary header, unique address, gateway, etc.), or is it just one of those things that goes on under the cover of night in dark Apple rituals?
I appreciate the time and consideration!

iMessage is, at this time, only iOS to iOS. There is no way, currently, to make a message from somewhere else appear to have come from an iOS device.
In the Google Voice settings, under "Phones", if you tick the box saying "Receive text messages on this phone", the text will show up in the Messages app on the iPhone as a standard message.
Best of luck.

iPhone users can no longer send me text messages now that i've moved to a non-iOS phone. Can iMessage service or Message users be refreshed to see me as a normal text message recipient?
I still have an iPhone, but haven't turned it on for weeks. And there's no SIM in it, so no cell service, just WiFi.  When I turn it on after a prolonged period of having it off (weeks), a bunch of messages popup that should have been forwarded to my new phone (same phone number and carrier as when I was an iPhone user) but appear to sit in iMessage queue indefinitely instead.
I'm guessing it has to do with the link that's made when an iPhone first realizes that it's talking to another iPhone and defaults, for all future texts, to iMessage.  You know, the green to blue switch.  How does that association get undone?
Has anyone else seen this, and if so, is there a fix?

your number can remain on the imessage server for some time

  • Can't receive normal text messages after updating to iOS5, only iMessages

Over the summer I bought iOS5 from a developer and had it on my phone for about a month until it crashed and I had to restore from a backup. So I put iOS5 back on my phone, and it crashed it again. I decided to wait until yesterday to put it back on, because it was legit and through Apple. Now I can't receive normal text messages from non-iPhone users. I'm only receiving iMessages. The only way to fix it is to turn off iMessage, but that's one of the main features of the update. Help?

i may put my iphone in the toaster tonight i am so $%#@!*^ frustrated.
i have an iphone 4 which i upgraded to ios5 about 4 days ago. yesterday, i realized i wasn't able to receive any text messages, but was (and am still getting imessages), along with the ever-so-vague 'sms mailbox is full, delete some text messages' alert.
so i came to the internet to find out about the supposed 15mb (75k*) limit. Apple's solution on their own site was 'hey, crazy hoarder, why don't you delete some texts?? there you go, EASY PEAZY!' except that didn't work...for me, and a ton of other people apparently.
i came down from 76something to around 67k.
I hard restarted, i ignored it, i deleted more texts, i bought phoneview, i deleted MORE texts, more restarts, NOTHING. it has now been 48 hours with no texts. NEED I ASSURE YOU THAT I AM A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON (as we all are).
so i backed up my phone (again, as i did before the upgrade), and restored it to factory nothingness. restart. restart. stare blankly. no texts.
then, i go to restore from backup (via itunes) so i can at least get all my contacts and whatnot back. lo and behold, my backup is gone. only the option to set up my 'new' iphone. i delay utter panic for a brief second and silently pray to the angel steve, sitting upon his giant white icloud, remembering that i actually paid for extra icloud space and backed up to that as well.
now i'm just waiting for it to restore AT LEAST my contacts, which it now seems to have done by the time i've typed this. PARTIAL crisis averted.
alas, i STILL am not getting any text messages. it seems that calling apple does nothing since apparently no one was told about this and/or how to fix this. i cannot receive text messages from my boyfriend, my parents, my colleagues who all are iphoneless and better off than me at this point.
i am leaving for a business trip in 12 hours. i'd like to figure this out before i put this thing in the garbage disposal or violently smash and use it's parts as confetti. although by the time i do, i will probably have lost all my friends and been disowned by my family for ignoring their jokes / emoticons / cries for help.
i fear apple has become a sentient being, and this is it's way of forcing all people of earth to use iphones...for there will be no other way to communicate with each other once we evolve and are all born with giant thumbs instead of vocal chords...hold me im scared...
    it's so dark here...

  • My iPhone 4 sending a iMessage to another iPhone user, the message will send then says not delieverd? So I have to send it as a normal text message .

Hey! So I'm having a problem with sending an IMessage to another iPhone user and they are having the same problem. The problem is; is that I send a message to them it will attempt to send then will say under the message that it was not delivered? So I send it as a normal text message. Weird part is that we both have full service and have the phone bills paid. Lol

There is an earlier thread that was answered by an Apple employee that states they are seeing the iMessage and Facetime servers are down. It is unknown when they will return, however it generally is not an extended period of time.

  • I recently bought iphone6, My imessage and face time is not working and still it charged me for normal text message multiple times and still not able to authorise the usage. Let me know how I can start using the same.

    Hello vinay34,
If you are having issues with activating your Apple ID for FaceTime and iMessage, then take a look at the article below to get it sorted out. Make sure that you have the Date and Time set to Automatic as well as any other steps listed in the article.

  • Why isn't a normal text message not being delivered to just one number ?

Since the IOS update a few weeks ago I've discovered that text messages I've been sending to a T mobile phone haven't been received, whereas they always were before. I've texted from another phone successfully so the problem is not their end. This is not a problem with Imessaging - all the help and advice appears to be with this issue. It's just normal text messaging that isn't getting through. Any advice would be appreciated !

Have you contacted your carrier, since this is a carrier feature?

  • Can I forward my text messages from my iphone to my email automatically?

can I forward my text messages from my iphone to my email automatically?

If you mean the settings for iMessages where you can specifiy an email address other people with iMessage can reach you at, that has nothing to do with email. The iMessage still goes to the Messages app and there is no way to autoforward from that app.

You could take a screen shot (hold and release both buttons simultaneously) and then email the resulting image to someone.

  • Text messages and imessages marked as delivered yet not received since last update. I cannot make sense of the troubleshooting page, why does this complex machine not just work?.

I updated my iphone -again, and now my girlfriend (and who knows who else) is not reliably receiving messages. I try sending as iMessage and as SMS and have iMessage checked in my options and send as text message if iMessage doesn't work also checked. It was working fine, I updated, now it's patchy at best and although messages are marked as delivered they aren't and I don't know unless I phone the recipient up. Have tried restarting, resetting and digging through the trouble shooting pages... Apple products used to just work, now my phone is like a puzzle that I have to solve. I'm ditching apple in October when my contract is up but would like to send texts in the meantime, any ideas?

Awesomez. Thanks apple support community, very helpful indeed. About as helpful as a phone that stops sending texts after the manufacturers update it. No worries though, I got a HTC yesterday, put my sim in and guess what? It works. Close this thread down thanks mods.

  • Problem sending text messages and imessages

    Hi,
I have been having some problems with my iphone 5 when sending and receiving text messages and imessages. When i go to send a text or imessage it will take a long time for the message to try to send through, then it comes up with message failure. I have full reception and internet connection and the phone is runing on the lastest ios7.1.2, everything is working in that respect. Sometimes it will freeze my whole inbox and i end up having to turn my phone off and on again to unfreeze it. It has also started taking a long time to receive messages, i will get a message and it will say that it was received 30mins ago when its only just shown up on my phone. I am also having problems deleting messages, as it freezes whenever i try to delete them.
Any suggestions on what to do?

I have an iPhone 4, and iOs 5.1. Suddenly I cannot send or recieve SMS/text messages but iMessage is working - any help appreciated.

iOS 5 handles texts differently than previous versions.  Resetting the network connections helps, but that didn't seem to solve your problem, and neitherdid the simple reset.
Try deleting old messages from the messages app, then after clearing up a lot, just do a simple restart of your phone.  If you want to be extra sure, try resetting your network connections again.  I had this same problem.  Your last option would be a complete restore of the phone, but I don't think we'll have to go that far.

  • Can I auto forward sms/text messages to another phone?

I find myself in the unenviable position of carrying two phones and I need to have my main phone (iPhone 4) forward sms/text messages to my other phone (Samsung Infuse).
After tinkering with the various setting on the phone, and trying to Google it for the past couple of days I haven't been able to find ANYTHING!
If anyone knows of any apps, settings, tips, tricks, or work arounds I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    GBA

Take a look at Google Voice. I use it so I don't have to carry 2 phones. One personal, one for work.
It gives you a new number that you can direct to ring multiple phones simultaneously if you like. It will also handle text messages and forward them for you.
Even if you're only going to carry one phone, this gives you a # you can have other people call without having to give them your personal #.
There are other neat tricks you can pull with this. For example, it can display your GV # in the caller ID for incoming calls instead of the actual callers #. If you have a plan that gives you unlimited calling to specific #s, that means all those calls can be free if you add it to your friends/family/Alist/whatever they call it now.
You can also set time restrictions so that it will only forward calls/messages during certain hours or to different phones at different times. When I'm working or on call, I get calls from the office. If I'm not, they won't ring through (they want me on call, they can pay me for it. lol)
I don't know if it will be helpful for you, but it might be.  The service is free with cheap international calling rates.

  • Is there anyway to forward a text message?

Is there anyway to forward a text message or are there any applications that will allow me to do this? Also does anyone know if you can highlight text in either email or text and copy it to any section on the iphone 3G?

Hi im new here ... I thought you couldnt forward messages, as I cant.... however my cousin just came from overseas and has an iphone 2G and he can... he just selects any part of the conversation bubbles and is given the option to delete or forward that part of a conversation... why does he have that feature and I with a iphone 3G does not?
    Anyone know?

  • Cannot send text message or iMessage?

I recently upgraded to iOS7 (like everyone else) and today cannot send text messages or iMessage. I can make phone calls and use other internet services. Any ideas?

        Hi shelmig1!
Sorry to learn of any issues since upgrading to iOS7. Let's try some troubleshooting! Do you find that this issue is only for other iPhone users, or does it happen with all messages? Are you able to receive messages? Please reset your network settings: Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Keep us posted on the results, thanks!

  • Forward a text message

Can anyone tell me how to forward a text message from the iphone???

You know, for being the "phone of the century" it certainly lacks a lot of things regular phones have been doing for years.
    Video
    Pic Messaging
    Backgrounds
    etc...etc...
Hopefully they will include something in the next updates to address this, but it will most certainly cost A LOT!
