[found a fix] pam_unix2 not recognizing libxcrypt?

I recently followed this guide to the letter:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blowfish_passwords
I am now greeted with this error when I try to change my password:
crypt_r: Don't know 0
Error: Password NOT changed.
What are some possibilities of what is going wrong?

I got it working! But only after hours of frustrating attempts, and some extra searching around. If anyone's wondering, I wrote about it here:

  • How I fixed Ipod not recognized by windows.

Like many of you I spent many frustrating hours trying to get my daughter's shuffle working. I had given up when a co-worker suggested updating the drivers. To do this go to control panel/system. Then go to the hardware tab and click the device manager. If after connecting your ipod it does not show up in explorer and in the device manager window you see an unknown device you probably had the same problem as I did. To fix, double click the unknown device to bring up its properties window. Then go to the driver tab and click the update drivers button. It asked me to search the internet and I let it. After a couple of minutes it found drivers for a USB large capacity storage device or something like that and loaded the drivers. After the drivers where installed I could now see the IPOD show up in explorer. I then reran the restore process on the Ipod and everything finally started working.
Hope this helps as I lost 8 hours trying to fix this thing.
I am not sure why XP with service pack two could not find the drivers by itself or why Apple doesn't have better support, but at least my daughter is happy now.
      Windows XP

I had the same problem. But the shuffle worked fine on another computer. The problem was with my computer...a Sony Vaio. To much plastic molding around the USB port so the shufflw was not getting a flsuh connection to USB port. I simply took a knife and whittled away the plastic molding on the computer until a good connection was made.
Sony offers the following: Due to the unique design of the Apple® iPod® Shuffle™ device, it may not connect flush to some USB ports. When the design of the computer will not allow the device to achieve a satisfactory connection, a USB extension cable is required. Apple offers an iPod® Shuffle™ Dock connector that is an ideal solution to resolve this issue, because it is designed to charge and sync the device when the USB port is not easily

  • Found a fix for windows not recognizing vision M, possible for oth

I went through the same frustration as so many people about windows not recognizing my vision M. Here's how I solved it. Go to device manager (right click on My Computer, choose manage then device manager) go to the unrecognized usb device, right click and choose update driver. choose no fior connecting to windiows update, then install software from a specific location, now choose don't search, I will choose the driver to install, find and install the driver for portable devices called MTP device. this should solve the issue. this is only for players not recognized by windows. I'm not sure if some versions of wondows can't figure out where to find the driver or what.

Yes that is one way to get it working
    Otherways are suggested <a href='http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=8&categories =Nomad+Jukebox+Zen#228' target=_blank>here[/url].
Glad to hear that you got your issue solved on your own.

  • Windows uninstalling device- my iPod is not recognized in iTunes so how can I fix this?

I haven't had a lot of problems with my iPod or iTunes until recently, when I plug my iPod in, it is not recognized. I tried EVERYTHING to fix it, went as far as restoring it to it's factory settings.... I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes about a million times, and I think the problem is iTunes. The iPod and the USB chord thing is not the problem. My iPod and the chord will connect to another computer that I have. So I went into the device manager and found
    USB Storage Device
    and underneath:
windows is uninstalling this device.(Code 21)
Okay, so I'm not the geek squad and I'm not good with computers or anything AT ALL. I've done my research, and I've found a lot of search results for this problem, but all that I have found have been recognized so the problem has been fixed for them fairly easily.
I have an iPod nano generation 5
    I have a lenovo 2005-2006 in computer
I also have windows 7- but I CANNOT update it (this may also be the problem but I need a way to work around it)
All I know is I'm having music withdrawal.
Any way that you can help please?

  • Zen not recognized, no drivers found XP

'Zen not recognized, no drivers found XPA I thought I'd share my recent experience in switching computers since I didn't find this info anywhere on Creative's site. Zen 32MB, Windows XP
    . No drivers found
I vaguely recall having to do this when I bought the thing, but the drivers it needs are wpdusb.sys and wudfrd.sys and the best way to get them is to install Windows Media Player , since that forces Windows to see them. It looks like Creative has made (and posted) separate drivers for newer operating systems that don't use these type of drivers at all.
    2. Unrecognized USB device
In trying to figure out why it couldn't find the drivers, the Zen stopped being recognized at all by any of my computers. A reboot - sticking the paper clip in the reset hole while powering it up - fixed that.

the ipod itself requires no special drivers and only uses the standard USB mass storage drivers
check the USB port you are using to make certain:
    1) it is a high powered USB port
    2) check device manager to make certain the drivers for the USB ports are functioning

Need help? Some of my Ipods are not recognized by Itunes with my Windows 8 PC. (Ipod Nano 4th gen  and Ipod Nano 6th gen), but on my Windows 7 PC, they work fine.  My Ipod 3rd gen and Ipod shuffle work both on Windows 8 and 7 PC's.  On the non-working Ipods, the  Device sync test says "No device found". Already performed all of the Ipod device troubleshooting including reload Itunes, stop start Ipod device, changed drive letter...

What happens if you go to iTunes > File > Devices, do you get the option to Sync iPhone?
You could try a reinstall of iTunes. OS X Yosemite: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac

My ipod nano is not recognized in itunes on my computer, when it has in the past. How do I fix this problem?

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)
