Found a lost iPod

I found an iPod a few weeks ago near my house and plugged it into my iTunes, I got the owner's information and sent her a message on Facebook letting her know that I found it. She hasn't responded. This was sent on May 18th. How long do I have to wait for her to reply before I can call the iPod mine without any legal repercussions?

It varies depending on where you are. To be absolutely sure, take it to the local police station; if they eventually return it to you, it's yours.

i found a lost ipod touch 4g  im wondering if you can turn it into itunes will they give u a new one

As with every thing, you have two choices:
    1.  Do the right thing
    2.  Do the wrong thing.
Doing the right thing:  Contact Apple, give them the serial number and have them contact the registered owner.  Also, contact you local police department and give them the serial number.  If no one claims the device with in a certain time, its yours.
Do the wrong thing:  Keep the device and don't tell anyone.  Connect it to your computer, install iTunes, wipe the device clean, and then use it like you stole it.
When the cops come knocking on your door you have two choices:
    1.  Run
    2. Surrender.
If you run the cops have 2 choices:
    1.  Run you down
    2.  Shoot to kill.
    And so it goes...
And to answer your question, NO.  Apple will not give you a new iPod.  You have to buy it just like the poor soul who lost the one you have....

  • FOUND A LOST IPOD TOUCH

Recently my brother handed me an Ipod Touch hoping I can unlock it. Turns out it belongs to someone named Jordan. He said he had found it in a retreat under a mattress in his bed. The ipod is badly cracked and for the purpose of the security of the ipod if you believe it to be yours I will need further proof. You will need to tell me what kind of cover it had, the picture in the front, and what generation it is. blahblahblah.
And the best would be the serial number which you can find on your itunes account.
I hope you will be able to find this one day and get back your ipod! I know how it feels to lose one of these and believe me I would love it if someone came up and made an itunes discussion like this one about giving it back to me.

My daughter had hers taken or she lost it over the weekend. It has a light colored greenish/blueish case on it. Im giving a reward for her found ipod. Can you give me the serial number on it if thats the case? Weve been looking everywhere for it! The picture on the front is of her or her boyfriend! Please respond! My number is 615-578-0483!

  • I found a Lost Ipod...

First off, there is no thread that I could see for this question, and no miscellaneous thread. So don't flame me.
*Here is the whole story*. My (sort of)friend found an Ipod nano in the street (he claims). I told him I would charge it for him, and I'm trying to get it back to it's owner before he finds out what I am doing.
*The steps I took* was searching the ipod for contacts or clues of who I can look up. The only link was the ipod's name: Judys Ipod. So I called apple to find out If I can track the owner via serial #. I just got put on hold. I need an answer soon if I am to re-unite this ipod to it's owner before my friend finds out and takes it back.
Question: Is there a way to find the user with the serial number, or in any other way?
It is currently day 2 and he doesn't seem too edgy.

I am a little late to this discussion, but here is my method:
Go to Findlay Designs (http://www.findleydesigns.com/) and download "iPod Access for Windows" If you have a Mac, download the Mac version. The free version will let you copy 5 songs.
The method to find the owner is to copy a single protected AAC song to your iTunes, then go to iTunes and try to play it. It must be a protected song from Apple for it to work.
The "your computer is not authorized" box will pop up and it will want to log in to that user's account, not yours.
From that box you can get the owner's email address. If they have not changed it recently you can email them and return it.
I am helping return pods with this method. I am working on 4 right now. One is already returned!

  • Found a lost iPod Nano (Silver)

Well, my dad found it on the delta airplane, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I know the name of the owner.
I know the iPod serial number.
I think this person lives in California.
    Her first name is Sharon.
Contact me, I want to mail it back!
I'll probably be asking you questions about your iPod to make sure it's yours.
Like what is your last name, what music is on there (you should know, it's on your iTunes.)
    Please please contact me.

    Call Apple (1-800-myapple).
Give them the serial number of the iPod.
They will forward your contact information to the last registered owner.
They will not give you any info except to tell you if it was registered or not.
And many, many, many thanks for doing the right thing!
    Good karma back at 'ya!

  • How can I locate the owner of a lost Ipod Touch 4g?

A friend found a lost Ipod Touch 4th generation and gave it to me because he's given up trying to locate the owner. Now I am trying to find its owner (last ditch effort).
I've never seen this message before, but when I got it, there is a screen saying disabled, connect to iPod. I assume that either it was remotely locked? Or perhaps my friend tried to guess passwords unsuccessfully too many times?
I took it to the Apple Store in San Francisco and the sales rep that was helping me didn't know how to do it.
I ran three ads in craigslist in different sections - no response.
My bf used to work for Apple, and is absolutely uninterested or too busy to help me out (nice guy, eh?).
I don't want to restore the phone and wipe the data, since it may destroy any possible clue as to how to locate the owner beyond the first name and photo that appears when you turn it on. (I tried to see if I could get it connected to iTunes and figure something out, but the phone is disabled)
Anybody know what I can do? Serial numbers?
note: In case you are wondering why I am so adamant on finding the owner, I have lost 2 ipods in the past (found one), but the other is gone forever (despite all my "please return to (my contact info)" message I had in place of the passcode screen. I will go pretty far to return this to the owner, because beyond principle, I was sad when mine was never returned to me.

I took it to the Apple Store in San Francisco
Take it to the nearest SFPD station.
And bravo to you for making such an effort to find the owner. They may have reported it lost or stolen to the SFPD.

  • Totally lost - ipod nano 4 g

I bought the nano, still haven't learned how to use it - haven't bothered to even try for awhile, so when I plugged it into my laptop tonight to try, it locked up for awhile and when I looked up why, I think it is because it has to charge all over again. The screen oin it says "connected" and also says "eject before disconnecting" but there is no way to eject it to disconnect it because it won't connect to the Itunes on the laptop, I assume because its not charged? And I go to the C drive and nothing extra is picked up on the usb for me to eject like a jump drive would. It also has a yellow circle above the writing with some picture in it - have no idea what the picture is - maybe of a usb plug or something. Will it fix by itself when it finishes charging (which I am hoping it is doing, even though what I read said it was only suppose to take 30 minutes) or is there something I should be doing? I don't know what generation this is - I am way too new at this ipod stuff. Thanks! Cujo

  • I recently got a replacement iPhone and when syncing it I found I lost all my downloaded music in my iPod, can I get it back?

I recently got a replacement iPhone and when syncing it I found I lost all my downloaded music in my iPod, can I get it back?

I lost all content on my ipod after connecting it to a new computer. I had brought my iTunes library over from the old computer and had the most recent iTunes installed, but iTunes didn't see the ipod. Long & short of it is I worked with Apple support, finally was able to restore the ipod and everything looked like it was syncing normally. When I ejected the ipod there was no content on it at all. After trying several times unsuccessfully to get it reloaded and another session with Apple support, they suggested the ipod was damaged. Since it was working fine up till that point I doubted that. I then thought it might be the iTunes library that was corrupt so I checked that. (It's fine.) So I found an ipod repair place (authorized Apple dealer) and when I called them they found that it appears to be an issue with iTunes software itself and pretty much said I have to wait for an update to fix the issue. So I did everything you're supposed to do & it messed up my ipod. Now iTunes doesn't recognize thje ipod again!

Copy everything from your backup copy of your computer.

  • How do I find my lost ipod touch

I had my ipod before I got on the bus this morning, it was in my pocket. I sat down on the bus, and I didn't take it out of my pocket, there was someone sitting next to me, but she couldn't have taken it out of my pocket because of the way she was sitting. It's not in my backpack, and my bus driver said she looked everywhere on the bus while cleaning it-like she always does. It could have fallen out anywhere on the bus and someone could have taken it. I'm really worried because I had just gotten it and I'm using icloud to track it, but it says its offline. I don't know how it would even connect to wifi because I have a pass code on it. please help.

Until it goes online you cannot track it.

  • Has anyone found their lost Iphone with Icloud succefully?

I recently had my Iphone stolen and my Icloud picked it up for a breif moment in front of someones house. I am from Illinois and it was stolen in Wisc. I had a friend go the house but it was a little old lady. Im pretty sure she did not live alone but my friend did felt a little uncomfortable even going to the door for me. When I continue to go on to Icloud it says my phone is offline but as of today I have been able to call it and it rings until my voicemail picks up. Before it would go to voicemail. Am I correct that there is a chance the sim card is still intact? I did put a lock on the phone so they are not able to access the phone except if they call the number provided by the "This phone is Lost" app I was able to us from Icloud. I am just looking for a little bit of hope that the phone could still be retrieved or brought online somehow before I completely give up home and have it erased. Any success stories or advice anyone has. I did call the police and have yet to get intouch with an officer to file a report but did get feed back that they could not go to the house without a warrent.
