Found: Intel Turbo Memory causing T61 wake-up from sleep / standby problems

This is related to my earlier post, but I've found a new cause and thought to post a new message to make it easier for others to find it if they are running into similar problems.
My system
T61 model 7662-CTO (built July 2007)
Vista Business w/ SP1
Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (driver version:  7.15.11.7597)
Intel Turbo Memory (driver version: 1.7.0.1029)
Intel Wireless card 4965AGN (driver version: 11.5.0.36)
Thinkpad BIOS (version 7LETC4WW,  2.24)
no card reader or integrated webcam
I was having problems with Vista failing to wake-up after being put into sleep (or standby) mode. Instead of returning to the desktop, the system immediately crashes and reboots. After many hours, I reformatted the drive and re-installed Vista (business edition). Before running the Lenovo system update, I installed Vista Service Pack 1, then I ran Windows Update and installed any remaining update hotfixes. (I never delayed restarting the machine when prompted)
I incrementally began installing Lenovo drivers, and after the Power Management driver determined that hibernate was working.
The 'sleep' option was unavailable until I installed the Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M drivers. Then sleep worked!
Note: Intel Turbo Memory driver was uninstalled at this time.
After all other lenovo programs were installed, I installed the driver for the Intel Turbo Memory. I put the computer to sleep, and it crashed/rebooted upon being woken up.
I uninstalled the Turbo Memory driver from the Device Manager, and normal sleep -> wakeup function resumed.
Because the sleep / standby feature requires the Nvidia Quadro drivers, and the Vista OS and the Intel Turbo Memory must properly work together for the turbo memory to work, I imagine the failure involves some driver mismatch between these three. I cannot recall now whether this issue was present when I first received the machine over a year ago (pre-installed Vista Ultimate, service pack 1 not even out yet). Perhaps Vista SP1 made some change that the Turbo Memory driver doesn't like, particularly with the Nvidia Quadro drivers in the mix too.
Just FYI for anyone interested or curious.

Remove the two aftermarket memory modules and observe the results.

  • IPhone 5 won't wake up from sleep/standby!!

Hello, I am having a really strange problem with my iphone 5 for last 3-4 months. Sometime when i want to use my iphone from standby/sleep mode it dosent do anything! sleep/wake button, home button even silent/sound button dosent work. I know the silent/sound button dosen't work cause normally it vibrate when I turn it on. So the problem is my phone wont wake up from sleep/standby mode. The screen stays black and nothing works. If i press the home button and power button for 10-15 time very quickly, then it takes a screen shot and wakes up!! Sometime it stays in this stage for 5-10min.
So here is what i did to solve the problem.
    1. I restore the phone from phone and ituens.
    2. I delete all icloud backup and started as a new phone
    3. I went to apple store and replace the phone with a new one!!
    4. I jailbreak it at last to see if it solve the problem!
    5. turn off the icloud to see if it works
And sadly nothing of all this solved my problem! Now im not sure any specific app causing the problem but it almost impossible to find it out. So if anyone have any similar problem or any suggestion to solve it, then it will be really helpful.

    Hi All,
I hope I don't jinx it by posting this.  Yesterday I changed two of my settings and the issue has not occured again.
I changed the carriers settings and the LTE settings.
I went into "Settings" - then went into "Carrier" - Then I switched the "Automatic" to "OFF" I waited for the the carrier to show up (in my case Vodafone), then selected "vodafone au" manually.
Then I went into "Settings" - Then went into "General" - then I switched OFF the "Enable LTE" option (In my case I have switched this option OFF as I have not been sent the message to advise that I now have 4G service. According to Vodafone support, Not all vodafone customers have 4G only a selected 40 thousand customers accross Australia, I think all customers will have 4G around mid July )
Once this is done, I switched the phone off, Waited around a minute and then switched the phone back on.
I will update in a week if the problem doesn't happen.

  • Tips for blue screen (BSOD) errors with Windows Vista and Intel Turbo Memory on T61/T61p

Important note: The symptoms and solutions described below address only a small subset of the possible causes for blue screen errors, aka BSOD. This information can help address blue screen errors specifically related to Turbo Memory, but may not solve errors related to other issues. Please read through the instructions completely, make sure they apply to your system, and after attempting the solutions please post back with your feedback for the community.
Some users may experience random blue screen errors with ThinkPad
systems running Windows Vista with Intel Turbo Memory hardware. These
blue screens may occur during normal usage on the system or they may
occur when booting into Windows Vista. Blue screens related to the
Intel Turbo Memory hardware may reference a stop code of 8086 with
    memory address locations of {0, 0, 0, 0}.
There are two main steps that you can take to help resolve blue screen issues related to Intel Turbo Memory.
Step 1: Update Intel Turbo Memory Driver
If the driver version is before version 1.0.1.1004-7.0.3.1001, please
    update to this version.
To determine what version of the Intel Turbo Memory driver is installed:
    1.    Click Start, then click Control Panel.
    2.    Click System and Maintenance.
    3.    Click System.
    4.    Click Device Manager.
    5.    Expand the Storage controllers category.
    6.    Double-click Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip.
    7.    Click the Driver tab. Then you will see the driver version (for example, 1.0.1.1004).
The new driver and installation instructions can be found here.
Note: The Intel Matrix Storage Driver is updated with this package.
    Step 2: BIOS version
If your BIOS version is older than those listed below, please update to the version listed.
How to check your BIOS version:
    Turn off the system.
    Turn on the system.
While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
    The
BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor
password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the
    password.
Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version.
    Turn off the system.
    System BIOS versions:
    ThinkPad T61/T61p (14.1 inch widescreen with IEEE 1394 model) - BIOS version 1.22 (7LET52WW)
    Please
remember that these updates do not solve every possible system blue
screen, but they do resolve several problems related to the Intel Turbo
    Memory driver.

    Thanks Tim,
I do have my T61p fully up-to-date to the latest drivers and updates (via System Update and the Drivers&Software web page when the former is not that up-to-date).
At the moment the most recurrent problem is this:
    http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=55
which has been longly speculated here:
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47755
My other angst is the boot-time chkdsk hang-up problem:
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=52765&highlight=chkdsk
I just wonder if this purely a Vista issue when using NV cache, the disk spinning down at almost exactly 1 hour from the beginning of the chdsk operation seems too much of a coincidence.
    This is my T61p configuration:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz
    BIOS version 1.26-1.06
    4GB RAM 2 SO-DIMMs
nVidia Quadro FX 570m with 512MB VRAM
    WUXGA LCD
    Seagate 7200.2 160 GB
    4GB RAM 2 SO-DIMMs
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit (waiting to move to 64bit)
    thanks,

  • Intel iMac Black screen on wake up from sleep

Hi, has anyone come across this? My imac intel 20" running 10.4.11 now routinely presents me with a black screen on waking up from sleep. The computer still seems to run as normal, the mail application beeps when new mail is received but the screen is black. I have to switch off the computer, reboot and do a NVRAM reset, sometimes up to 8 times in order to get a functioning screen. The beautiful Lexus has turned into a 10 year old Ford Escort; i think -not sure though- that this started with the latest system update. All advice greatly appreciated. Jan

I, too, have this problem. I don't have a cure but I do have a workaround.
If you close the lid again and watch the light on the front it will be solid on.  Keep the lid closed and keep waiting (which might take a minute or two) and eventually the light will start "breathing".  Now you can open the lid and your computer should be up and running normally.
Although waiting for the light to start breathing is a pain (especially if you're pressed for time) it's still quicker and safer than shutting down and restarting.

  • V560 cannot wake up from sleep/standby

    hi all,
My V560 is not waking up after entering sleep/stand by mode automatically. screen remains black. usb is not working. hdd indicator light is on.
i have to press power button long till force it to power off. i am using win 7 enterprise 32bit.

    hey azad,
place your unit on diagnostic mode via msconfig. restart your unit, login and do not launch any program.
if you have set your unit to go into sleep/standby after a period of time; let it do so.
once it is in sleep/standby , leave if for about 5 mins before "waking" it up.
can it wake up ? if yes, then it is a program you launch or a non-windows item that is launch in the background during startup that is causing the error.
    if possible, go to >>http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=607595
    and update your unit accordingly.

    Dear Tim,
First off, many thanks for the tips for resolving BSOD with Vista + Turbo Memory on X61.  I've been suffering from this BSOD for countless times since I bought in my X61 7673-CW9 in April 2008.
Even prior to having the pleasure to visit this wonderful forum, I followed both steps as indicated, and updated my Intel Turbo Memory driver to 1.5.0.1013 and my BIOS to 7NETB4WW (2.14).  However, the BSOD recurrs.
For the past two months, I've recovered my system to factory default settings using Rescue and Recovery for over twenty times, each time with the latest Intel Turbo Memory driver and BIOS.  Notwithstanding that, BSOD recurrs.
During these painful experiences, I tried two options: 1) making my X61 up-to-date by using System Update and Windows Update (including Vista SP1 or excluding Vista SP1); 2) keeping my X61 the status as factory default (i.e. without updating through either System Update or Windows Update (the automatic/scheduled update function of both is turned off)).  In either case, BSOD recurrs.
I'm 100% positive that the BSOD does not arise from any hardware or software/firmware I install.  I never install any hardware (e.g. RAM).  And, it is not caused by any software/firmware I install: the clear and unequivocal evidence is that at one time,I encountered BSOD while having restored back to factory setting and booting for the first time.
I live in Taiwan, and I seldom heard this BSOD here.  All of my friends (as most of Taiwan residents) using X61 operate in Traditional Chinese environment, whereas I operate in English environment.  In Taiwan, when booting for the first time after purchase/recovery, the Windows Vista Business system provides for lanuage choice (Traditional Chinese or English), and, once chosen, the language cannot be altered later on (unless, of course, the system is restored back to factory default settings).
My system specs are the same as the day I purchased it and are listed below (as I'm not sure if my machine type X61 7673-CW9 is applicable outside Taiwan):
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.4GHz
    Memory: 1.00 G.B.
    System: Windows Vista Business (32-bit)
    Hard Drive: 160 G.B. @ 7,200 r.p.m.
And, of course, with Intel Turbo Memory 1 G.B.
I contacted the Lenovo support staff here in Taiwan for countless times, but they seem to be clueless.  I learned that some friends at this forum downgraded their OS back to Windows XP, but I chose not to.  The reason is simple: my purchase price for X61 7673-CW9 includes the Intel Turbo Memory, which cannot function under Windows XP (at least so far).
Therefore, I just wish to share my experience here and perhaps I can get some advice from you and other friends here.  Any advice will be tremendously and enormously appreciated.

  • MSI GX700 Intel Turbo Memory Problem

    hello,
My brand new GX700 notebook worked fine for some time. Suddenly a BSOD appeared with following message: "STOP: 0x00008086, (0x00000301, 0x00000108, 0x00000005, 0x00000000)" and computer shut down. Afterwards, Windows Vista 32-bit loaded normally, but Intel Turbo Memory Console showed Windows ReadyBoost and ReadyDrive were both greyed and disabled. I run Device Manager and it listed Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip as present but with yellow warning sign on it. Then hit Properties and it showed following problem under Device status "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". So, I taught that was a driver issue. Downloaded generic Intel Turbo Memory driver v1.5 from Intel's site, but it appeared as worse than the previous 1.0.1.1004 version listed in the Driver Download area on official MSI's support site. I've tried many different scenarios in order to sort this issue out, but with no luck. Is there anyone who's familiar with the problem to help me?
    P.S.
Actual BIOS version is 1.0K, AHCI mode is enabled. OS is Vista 32-bit with latest patches applied.
    Help me, please.

I guess I found a solution. Vista Home Premium appears to be more stable and suitable for the notebook. The blame is on Microsoft's side. My intention wasn't to offend anyone, especially not MSI. But my local distributor who runs the Service  Center  isn't as nearly capable as should be. The only thing they did, despite my efforts to write them down an essay that explains all of the steps I've done so far, was new driver installation that didn't work. I apologise if I offend someoneones feelings, but You can imagine how furious I was at the moment of system failure after 5 days of "service".
Anyway solution lies in clean Vista Home Premium installation, running Windows Update afterwards, installation of chipset inf, VGA, WLAN drivers ... and finally Intel Matrix Storage driver and then manual installation of Intel Turbo Memory driver through Device Manager.
    Best regards.

  • Intel Turbo Memory in X61s

    Hi All,
I've just come across Intel Turbo Memory (ITM) technology for GM965 Express chipset that my X61s is equipped with. Could anyone using it in their X61s, especially equipped with an SSD, please tell me if your ITM card makes any difference at all? Also are 4GB ones supported by X61s running Windows 8.1? (I've found ITM drivers for W7x64 despite ITM page at Intel website says only for Windows Vista) My X61s has Intel X25-M inside, hence wondering if the ITM technology is fast enough to compete with the SSD.
    Many thanks in advance!

Intel quit pushing Turbo Memory. I ran tests on several machines and never found any significant improvement. My suggestion is to get the SSD and throw away the turbo memory card.

  • Intel Turbo Memory hard drive cache on a T60p

I have windows Vista and the Tubro memory wasn't an available option when I bought it. Can I buy it and install in on my laptop? Would it even be worth it to do so?

    Hello,
The main advantage to having an Intel Turbo Memory module seems to be slightly improved performance on systems which do not have a lot of memory (i.e., 512MB) and in providing slightly improved battery life.
If you have a system which does not have much memory in it and you use it primarily on battery, then it might make sense to add it.
Physically, the module is a Mini-PCIe card, so you would need to make sure your particular model of ThinkPad has an open expansion slot, or swap out whatever is currently installed in the system to make room for the new module.

  • Does the Satellite A300/M00 has room for Intel Turbo Memory?

    Hello,
My question is, "Does the A300/M00 have room for Intel Turbo Memory and if so is there a tutorial to placing the module in".

I dont think it does. Intel dropped the Robson cards earlier this year due to the lack of performance benefits.

  • Thinkpad X301 and Intel Turbo Memory

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo X301, which were all SSD drive systems.
    I was looking at the Intel Turbo Memory card as their is a free slot for one next to the WWAN card, and I have noticed that the Support on Lenovo :: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67820 state that the X300 and X301 are supported for the Turbo Memory (no X300 or X301 came with anything other than a Solid State Disk) though in notes it says;
It is not recommended to use Intel Turbo Memory in a system with a SSD
drive. It would be ideal to remove the Intel Turbo Memory module from the
system, if SSD drive is used.
Seems to conflict, as the X301 is supported but the X301 only has an SSD option.
So the question is can I use Intel Turbo Memory, and if so why do Lenovo advise against it in an SSD system.

there is no point installing the turbo memory if you already have the ssd. it is not going to produce any speed improvement.
I had tried to install the turbo memory in my X301 with the ssd, i didn't get any error as such, but it also didn't get any performance improvements either.
Lenovo advise against it due to the fact that it may produce hardware conflicts in certain circumstances.

Hi Michael.  Download from Intel not Lenovo  You can find the driver here. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2813&lang=eng select between either 32 bit or 64 bit vista.
Download and save the driver to your desktop.
Right click the install file, properties, compatibility tab.
Set compatibility to windows vista sp1
Check the box that says “Run as Administrator"
    Run the install program.
NOTE:  I have successfully installed windows 7 with all drivers.  Including Fingerprint reader and power management.  However please note that the more drivers I would install the more unstable windows would become. When installing drivers meant for different operating systems their reliability will suffer.   Anymore help with installing drivers? please let me know.

Hey, thanks 4 your response... Well I figured that out... I hoped that there was a way to prevent system calls, regarding devices, to wake up my macbook pro... something like: forbid interrupts while asleep
If you ever hear of a way to fix it please let me know...
I think a solution would be to disable automount on the express card device... I use it for my time machine backup and really DON'T want to remove the card every five minutes...
    Cheers, Philipp

  • MBP will not wake up from Sleep

    Hi,
I installed Leopard successfully on Friday, and since then, my computer does not wake up from sleep about 50% of the time.
When I open the lid to attempt to wake it up, I hear the normal CD drive clicking sound (not the best way to describe the sound, but I don't know how else haha), but the screen just remains black. I cannot tell however, if it is a) waking up and the screen is remaining black or b) not waking up at all. The only way to remedy this is to hard to a hard shut down with the power button and then to power back on.
Anybody else experience this or know what could be causing this? I never had this problem with Tiger in the 5 months that I had it on my MBP.
    Thanks for the help!

Just installed Leopard on my original 15" MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. Last night, I had several applications open (Safari, Transmit, Timbuktu Pro) set up in separate Spaces. I closed the lid to put the machine to sleep. The sleep light was pulsing normally.
This morning, when I opened the MBP, the screen came on ok showing the last Safari page I was on and the Airport Indicator showed that it re-connected to my wifi as normal. However, the cursor was scrambled (the was a vague set of dots but no arrow where the cursor should be). This "scrambled cursor" moved around the screen when I moved my finger on the trackpad but the computer did not respond to any mouse clicks or keyboard input. I tried commandoptionQ to force quit but no luck. Eventually I had to press & hold the power button to force a restart & the computer then started up normally.

Since latest os upgrade to 10.8.2, my mac will not wake up from sleep.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
