"Found Partially Deleted Backup - Trying Again to Delete"
Has anyone encountered a message like this in system.log? If so, any suggestions as to how to find and delete the problem "partially deleted backup?"
/System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[443]: Starting post-backup thinning
com.apple.backupd[443]: Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2007-12-01-211848
Time Machine has been stuck displaying the barber pole of doom for two hours, with the accompanying message "Finishing backup..." It appears that TM is choking on a backup that was for some reason only partially deleted earlier (probably when I forced a shut down after a couple of hours of similar nonsense with TM). FWIW, my TM disk is an internal 1 TB SATA drive with over half the space still free.
Cheers!
Hi Barry:
Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't realized that I could navigate the Time Machine disk that way.
I deleted the offending folder, and then emptied the Trash. Interestingly, this caused the same "churning" sound from my hard drive that I was getting when Time Machine was stalled. The Trash was taking a long time to empty, and it occurred to me that the problem might be related to Compost, a utility that I installed to keep my Trash at a manageable size. So I stopped Compost, my Trash then emptied out quickly, and I assumed that all would be well.
Well, not quite. I restarted TM, it ran a quick little backup, and then according to system.log it began the post-backup thinning. TM promptly stalled with the barber pole of doom, and the hard drive churning sound resumed. I'm getting the following message repeating endlessly in system.log:
Dec 3 17:02:42 macpro kernel[0]: HFS resolvelink: can't find iNode3324704
Dec 3 17:03:06 macpro kernel[0]: disk3s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED).
Dec 3 17:03:06 macpro kernel[0]:
The message appears every 20 seconds or so, and after a few of the same messages the iNode number changes. I've Googled the error message, but didn't find anything that would shed light on what it means. I'm going to leave TM running for a few hours to see if it eventually works its way through these errors. If not, then I'll probably just erase the **** drive and start again with a fresh backup.
Cheers!

Time Machine: "Partially Deleted Backup"
Last night, after Time Machine performed a backup and began its post-backup thinning, it got stalled on "Finishing backup... ." The system log showed that it was attempting to delete a previously partially deleted backup:
Starting standard backup
Starting post-backup thinning
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-09-30-110803
The backup it was trying to delete was the last one on its list (i.e., the oldest one on that TM volume). And when I opened it up, it indeed appeared to be a partially deleted folder. So I let TM run. However, it never finished "Finishing backup... ," so after letting it run all night and all day, I simply told TM to stop. It did, and the system then added two more messages to the log, acknowledging my cancelation as well as TM's current success:
Starting standard backup
Starting post-backup thinning
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-09-30-110803
Backup deletion was canceled by user
Backup completed successfully.
However, the next time TM ran, it began all over again:
Starting standard backup
Starting post-backup thinning
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-09-30-110803
It's still sitting there in its "Finishing backup..." mode.
I was thinking about entering Time Machine, selecting that backup, and telling Time Machine to delete that backup—and only that backup. But I'm (a) not sure that will address the actual problem, and (b) wondering if deleting that particular backup (i.e., the oldest one on the list) is advisable.

I'm aware of the multilink nature of TM's backups. What I don't understand is how you immediately concluded that the backups were corrupted.
TM finding partially deleted backups, trying repeatedly to deleted them, and failing to.
(And yes, I though you meant that you'd tried to delete the backup yourself.)
It took forever. I ran TechTool Pro, and it "choked" (i.e., ran out of memory) trying to rebuild the directory. When I asked Disk Warrior to graph the directory, it revealed that it was more than 40% fragmented!
I'm not sure fragmentation is a problem, or even applies, given the structure of TM backups.
So I ran Disk Warrior. It ran without incident. When I then looked inside the TM drive, I discovered that along with rebuilding the directory—which is what I understood its job to be—DW apparently removed/deleted the offending (partially deleted) backup. The next time Time Machine ran, everything went smoothly. It's been running fine ever since.
Great! And yes, there are times it can repair/rebuild TM backups that nothing else can (I guess that's why it costs $100!).
I'm obviously quite pleased with the results: Not only did DW perform an incredible directory rebuild (fragmentation went from more than 40% to less than 1% !!) but it cleared out the partially deleted backup that was causing TM to stumble. But I remain awfully curious: Had I simply gone into Time Machine and deleted the partially deleted backup myself, wouldn't that have fixed the problem? (Granted, DW not only got TM back on track, but it also rebuilt its directory, which is a definite plus in my mind...I'm just trying to understand.)
It's possible you couldn't have deleted it completely, any more than TM was able to. Remember, a single backup folder has hard links to hundreds, thousands, or hundreds of thousands of other items. Just one of those being screwy can have a ripple effect through the whole structure.
And if you could have, it might well have left some of the actual backup files "abandoned" -- some or all of the hard links to them deleted, but still somewhere in the disk directory, so still taking up space.
I got the idea from
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090515063602219
which provided a link to the "solution" when partial backups remain that result in TM "error: 11" failures:
http://www.bytebot.net/blog/archives/2008/08/13/fixing-time-machine-backup-faile d-with-error-11
Admittedly, mine wasn't an "error: 11" problem, but it sure seemed similar. My hesitation/concern was due to the fact that the partially deleted backup was the last one (i.e., the "oldest") in my TM volume: I wasn't sure if deleting it would screw up all of the links used by the remaining backups. However, since DW removed it without causing any problems, it seems like I may have been able to accomplish the same result by removing it "manually" from within TM. If that is the case, then it suggests that there may not have been any actual "corruption."
Again, I am very happy with the result, and likely will resort to DW again the next time I have similar problems. The only reason I'm harping on it is simply to try to gain a deeper understanding of how to determine when such problems are indeed due to corruption as opposed to simply an errant file that causes TM to stumble. (Had TM indicated that it stumbled and was unable to successfully perform the backup, then I would have little doubt that there was actual corruption.) -
I've spent 6 hours trying to update my iPad, and it doesn't work. It can't get past trying to back up, and just stops and gives an error code. I've deleted the backup, re-synced, and tried again and still no luck. What do I do now?
I am not running any antivirus software on my Mac, and I have the firewall shut off. Any other ideas? I have not problem downloading all other Apple software updates. I downloaded the latest iTunes software before starting the iPad update process.

I bought a used ipod touch. The music on it was not my taste. I found a delete feature and EVERYTHING is gone. How do I get the icons back and start over?
If you did not yet connect with iTunes, you can place any music from your library back into your iPod from the computer. When set to automatically manage usic and videos, whatever iTunes finds changed in your music app will be reset to what is on your computer iTunes library.

I am trying to update my new iphon 4.at first i got a massege no.14. then i updated apple &tried again but this time got a massege no iphon found. serial no.appears but not a phone no.what should i do?
Sounds like it's hardware issue. The iPhone warranty is based in the original country of purchase. Since it was bought in Korea you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in Korea to be taken in and then they will have to ship it back to you. The cost of shipping will be at your expense.

Couldn't find root user. Sleeping and trying again.
Last week I installed an MSO 2004 update on my G5 iMac running 10.4.11.
Then I attempted to repair permissions. The repair permissions process
halted at about half of the progress bar. I let it cook for about two
hours without success, then tried to force quit Disk Utility. I
couldn't force quit it, so I very reluctantly turned off the Mac;
something I've rarely ever done. I waited five minutes and then turned
the Mac back on. The startup sequence progressed to the point where the
system displays the gray apple on the gray background, and the circular
progress indicator or gear begins turning. I let it turn for one hour
and then powered off the iMac, then powered it back up with the same
results.
I powered it off again and then commenced a Safe Boot. Same results as
before.
I powered it off again and then started it in Single User Mode. No
problem. I ran /sbin/fsck -fy. No problem.
I typed "reboot" and it rebooted. This time I start it in Verbose mode.
After the preliminary startup code, the system began repeating the same
message lines:
dsFindDirNodes returned -14071, count = 0 count = 2147483646
Couldn't find root user. Sleeping and trying again.
A Google search produced very few results. I don't have a backup
because I inherited this iMac from my 75 year old semi retired father
who wanted a 20-inch Intel iMac instead. I just goof around with the G5
iMac from time to time, and am considering giving it to my little niece and
nephews. It worked great for about a month. I have customized my
user account and the accounts for the little ones, so I really don't
want to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Tiger again from scratch.
I booted from the suspect internal hard drive into single user mode.
I ran /sbin/fsck -fy on the internal hard drive.
All tests passed.
I ran fsck_hfs on the internal hard drive.
It returned a message that stated that I needed
to add additional information.
I ran fsck_hfs with several switches enabled, but
it continued to return this message.
I performed the procedures in Apple's article 107210
"Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server: How to Replace the NetInfo
Database (Restoring from defaults).
This did not solve the problem.
I booted this computer from my external Firewire hard drive that I use
to create nightly backups on my G4 iMac using SuperDuper!.
I ran Disk Utility Repair Disk Permissions on the
internal hard drive.
There were no permissions errors.
I ran Disk Utility Repair Disk.
All tests passed.
I ran the TechTool Pro Suites --> Advanced Tests on
the internal hard drive.
All tests passed except for "Startup File" which it
listed as " <Not Present>".
The description of this test is:
"This test checks the Startup file. The parameters
within this file contain the information used by
the computer ROM to determine what program will
boot the computer as well as other system-specific
aspects."
I ran the TechTool Pro Performance --> Maintenance
routine on the internal hard drive.
It completed the maintenance successfully.
I ran DiskWarrior on the internal hard drive.
It reported no directory errors, but I replaced it
anyway.
While booted from the external Firewire hard drive, I viewed what
appears to be the proper compliment of folders on the internal hard
drive. Of course, I didn't examine and verify every subfolder in the
hierarchy, however, examining the Applications, Library, System, and
Users folders two deep seemed to indicate that everything was there.
I booted this computer from my Tiger installation disk. I selected
Utilities --> Reset Password... (I think.). It listed only the
Administrator account (root) on the internal hard drive. It did not
list the other three accounts that I created on this hard drive, even
all three respective folders are present in the Users folder. However,
it did list all four accounts on the still attached external Firewire
hard drive.
By every measure, this drive and its directory are sound. I am
concerned that TechTool Pro reported that the Startup File is Not
Present. Beyond the meaning that the words suggest, I'm not sure what
this really means. I checked the Micromat site and found the following:
The Startup File has been defined but not yet
implemented by Apple.
What does the message signify:
dsFindDirNodes returned -14071, count = 0 count = 2147483646
Couldn't find root user. Sleeping and trying again.
Can I effect a simple repair?
Thank you.I think besides a reinstall, only DiskWarrior from Alsoft...
http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
stands a chance of fixing it. -
The OCSP server suggests trying again later
I am getting this error message when trying to access my site from Firefox, however no other browser (IE, Chrome, Safari) is experiencing this issue.
https://www.core-e.biz
I have a valid ssl cert installed on my server, and haven't had any problems until people tried to use Firefox to browse my site. The exact error message I get is:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to www.core-e.biz
The OCSP server suggest trying again later.
(Error code: sec_error_ocsp_try_server_later)Works for me in Firefox 32.
Try to rename the cert8.db file (cert8.db.old) and delete the cert_override.txt file in the Firefox profile folder to remove intermediate certificates and exceptions that Firefox has stored.
If that has helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previously stored intermediate certificates.
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.
If that didn't help then remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) as well. -

~Have you tried a clean start of the agent?
This works on both Linux and Windows, as longs as you delete the appropriate files for each OS.
1. Stop the agent on the target node
emctl stop agent
2. Delete any pending upload files from the agent home
rm -r $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/state/*
rm -r $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/collection/*
rm -r $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/upload/*
rm $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/lastupld.xml
rm $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/agntstmp.txt
rm $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/blackouts.xml
3. Issue an agent clearstate from the agent home
emctl clearstate agent
4 Start the agent
emctl start agent
5. Force an upload to the OMS
emctl upload agent
Give it a few minutes. In fact, sometimes if you log out of GC and then log back in, you will see the results.
The only other thing I could imagine is to totally remove the host target from GC, then run through this clean start agent script. But, don't do that on my advice without researching first. -

Hi,
Thank you for getting back to me. I was able to locate the opm.db file and delete it. (as instructed below) I go to applications>Adobe Creative Cloud and double click. It prompts me to login, it logs in and says there is an update, I click update and it prompts me to sign in with my password, I enter the same password and it doesn't take it. Also, the opm.db file is back in the OOBE folder. Im I launching Creative Cloud incorrectly?
Close the Creative Cloud Desktop application.
Navigate to the OOBE folder.
Windows: :\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
Mac OS: /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE
Delete the opm.db file.
Launch Creative Cloud. Try signing in. -
