Four fingers swipe won't work on magic trackpad

Hello,
just bought a magic trackpad to use with my macbook pro and a second display. Mainly, I purchased the accessory for the four fingers swipe between full screen apps and it doesn't work.
If I change the command to a 3 fingers swipe, it does work, but then, I can't use the 3 fingers drag.
Any solution ?

This solved everything :

Just turn off every gesture settings and put them back on. Works fine now!

  • Four-finger swipe constantly stops working

I'm running Snow Leopard on my 27" iMac with a Magic Trackpad, and the four-finger swipe Expose gesture regularly stops working, which two and three-finger gestures continue to work fine.
Sometimes a reboot will fix the problem, other times I can reboot two or three times before four-finger swipe works again.  I've used the trackpad since it was released with no issues until a month or two ago when the problem started.
I've installed the latest combo update, repaired disk permissions many times over, reset PRAM and SMC, deleted a plist file pertaining to Expose which someone on the forum recommended.  Nothing has helped as of yet.
When 10.7 Lion is released I'll do a full and fresh install which should finally take care of things, but until then I'd love to get this working without having to reinstall 10.6.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Magic Trackpad won't work with Magic Mouse on brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac

I have a brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac which I bought with Snow Leopard pre-loaded. Naturally, I included the new Magic Trackpad in my purchase, and though there were some problems with the device in SL - such as it going haywire without explanation - it generally worked, although battery levels were erratic (one day 80%, then an hour later 42%, then 80% again).
When I installed Lion I did a clean install after backing up to Time Machine - and a Super Dupered external drive. I had some difficulties trying to install Lion from an external flash drive so I deleted again and reinstalled SL, then reinstalled over the SL install I did (with no other software except Mac OS X 10.6.8 and other system updates to facilitate install). Rather than copying apps from my old SL drive, I downloaded fresh copies and reinstalled one by one. I don't use a lot of apps apart from Microsoft Office, browsers and iLife and have not installed any additional scripts, extensions or add-ons (like USB Overdrive). It's a pretty clean install.
Since then, although I'm generally happy with Lion, the Magic Trackpad won't work! It does work for a little while with basic gestures - mainly moving the cursor and scrolling - then it gives up the ghost and loses connectivity. I have done the following:
Disconnected and reconnected the MTP after turning it on and off. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Shut the computer down, pulled out the plug, waited two minutes, then started up again. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Run Onyx, shut down computer, then pulled out plug (see above).
Checked options in Universal Access, shut off "Ignore other devices when trackpad in use" (or whatever the option is). MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Turned off the Magic Mouse. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
But none of this seems to work! I know the MTP is connected because I can see it in the BT menu in the menu bar and also in System Preferences. I have noticed since upgrading that my permissions - which when I bought the computer were totally clean - now run lines and lines about "Library/Core Services" so I am unsure whether this is related. I also notice a lot of people are in the same boat as me, which makes me wonder if it's either a hardware issue or a release issue - after a week or so of totally silent running, my 2TB Hitachi HDD started up with the grumbly tum. I'd really appreciate any tips from anyone out there!

    Hi, marksaner
You could try installing the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that makes the UltraNav driver and drivers for many other computer brands. This driver should have the same functionality as the UltraNav driver, so there's no worry there. You can find the driver here.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Right Click doesn't work with Magic Trackpad

The Magic trackpad is great. Finally I have something like the old trackballs I had to abandon to be able to scroll etc.
However I can't get the right click to work even though I have the secondary click checked in the trackpad preferences.
Any ideas how to get it to work?
Also, a real bummer is I had selected tap to click and went on a trip. My old MBP (pre unibody) with a trackpad and a button below it, doesn't have a "tap to click" option in the preference pane once the Magic Trackpad is no longer connected, so I couldn't disable it until I got home. Bad!

    Bump!
I have basically the same problem with my magic trackpad. I bought it to get the new features, but with no secondary click it's pretty much useless.
I have the options set for secondary tap. Which I assume is just like the regular trackpad. Two fingers and click - Context menu. But I just get a regular primary click. I hate to think that i wasted $70. Can anyone help with this? Please.
Just a side note: My tap-to-click and secondary bottom right click also don't work. Do I have a malfunctioning trackpad?

  • 10.5.7 support four fingers swipe for MBA v1

I noticed there was a nice work-around to give support for four finger gestures with MBA v1.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=617181
However, the work-around which involved updating AppleUSBmultitouch.ktext, was for 10.5.6. Is there an updated file available for 10.5.7 yet?

It works with 10.5.7 too. I successfully got mine working tonight.

  • Swipe won't work

Why wont the swipe work on my Ipad.  Just started acting up, can't get to settings because I can't wake the stupid thing up to start with.  H ave tried to reboot several times, not working.

I know how important it is to have a working screen cyncyn83! I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties. What model device is this? When did this start? Any new apps, functions or updates? When you reset it, was it done to complete factory standards or a restore?

  • How should I swipe in iPhoto, when two fingers swipe is for swiping full screen apps? thanks

I dont know how to swipe phoots in iPhoto using Lion, two fingers swipe swipes full screen apps,,,thanks

Did you mean three fingers? (the default in Lion).
Have you tried changing Lion to use a four fingered swipe for spaces (System Preferences > Trackpad > Guestures)? If you do that, maybe iPhoto will be able to use the three fingered gesture (although I only have an old version of iPhoto and it doesn't work in that).
Sorry if that doesn't help. How about the cursor keys?

  • Three-fingers swipe in aperture 3

    Hi,
I'm not sure why I am not able to use the three-fingers swipe in aperture3 (v3.2.2), OS v 10.6.8.
I had the problem previously and for a quick fix, I reinstalled aperture3 and everything is working fine.
1 day later, there was a message saying that my library needs to be upgraded to a newer version which I did and now the three-fingers swipe is not working again. This is a problem in aperture3 only as I am able to use this function in iphoto.
Anyone has any solution to this?
    Thanks.

Do you have "Aperture→Preferences→General→Enable Gestures" checked?

  • New Magic Trackpad: No Multitouch Gestures? System Sees "plain" trackpad?

I just installed a new Magic Trackpad on my work Mac Pro. I'm current on the OS (10.6.6) but after pairing the trackpad I get only the basic trackpad control panel.
I've also installed one at home on a similar system and did get the updated control panel with the gestures and movies, but don't see that here. I even installed the Magic Trackpad MultiTouch Update 1.0 and nothing improved.
Has anyone seen this behavior? Could it be bad hardware?

Good news and bad news.  I was having the same problem, came across this thread and saw the post about USB Overdrive incompatibility.  So good news, you've solved my problem too.  Bad news is that I can no longer use my Microsoft mouse (all the goofy buttons on it), but I guess that's the point of having the Magic Trackpad!  For what it's worth, I ~think~ that Microsoft Intellipoint will work with Magic Trackpad and give me back use of all those goofy buttons on my Microsoft Mouse at the same time, but your milage may vary.  Download Microsoft Intellipoint from Microsoft's website, and if it doesn't work or disables Magic Trackpad, remember this:
To uninstall Microsoft Intellipoint, open Spotlight (CMD-SPACE), type "uninstall" and you'll see "Intellipoint Uninstaller" listed.  Incidentally, that's the same way to uninstall USB Overdrive successfully too.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • My Magic Trackpad behaves as if the left 'button' is being randomly pressed.  What gives?

I've got a Macbook Pro running OS X Lion.  I use a Magic Trackpad for my daily work and have found that it has performed wonderfully...until today.  About an hour into my morning work, my Magic Trackpad behaves as if I'm randomly pressing the lower left corner to click.  I've cleaned it with a microfiber cloth and tried disconnecting and reconnecting the unit.  No joy. I tried turning to the 'Tap to Click' functionality from System Preferences > Trackpad.  Once I do this, I cannot click anywhere.  Even using the trackpad built into the laptop.
Since I normally physically click on the lower left corner every day, I'm wondering if I've somehow worn out the device already?  As best as I can tell, however, there is nothing wrong physically with the device.
Any suggestions before I take this thing to the Apple Geniuses?

The local Mac Genius confirmed my suspicions that it's wear and tear on the device.  Simply put, the Magic Trackpad isn't designed to take a lot of physical 'abuse' via physical left clicks.  Suggested fix was purchasing a new unit and using the 'Tap to Click' functionality located in the Trackpad Point & Click settings under System Preferences.

  • My home button on my ipad2 is not working anymore, I pinch with four fingers to return to homepage, what should I do?

My home button on my iPad2 isn't working anymore.....I use four fingers to swipe back to homepage...what should I do??

It seems bizarre to suggest either of these fixes because they both require the use of the home button. However, I haven seen reports that both of these "fixes" have worked for other users in the past. They may not work for you, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If still no luck, take your iPad to an Apple Store and let a genius take a look at it. You have the iPad 2 and it still has to be under the one year warranty.

Computer is balky random freezes across apps. Two hard drive cleans later (their scan reveals no hard drive problems) photo shop won't work at all, magic touch mouse inoperable and their diagnoses is corrupted data? Anybody heard of this?

Well, yes, data does get corrupted sometimes.
The trick is finding what data.
By 'cleaned' are you therefor meaning that the drive has been erased and the system re-installed?
Because that's the quickest way to deal with such a situation.
Back up the system first of course,
Add back 3rd party apps one at a time in case one of them is causing the problem.
