Four point mask in FCPX

I can  not adjust the shape points in the four point mask for JPEG pictures. It works fine for video. I downloaded an eight point mask and it works fine for stills. Does the mask that comes in FCPX not work for JPEGS or do I have a corrupted installation. Appreciate hearing if anyone can adjust the mask shape that comes  in FCPX when applied to a JPEG. I am using Snow Leopard on iMac 27" I7.

I thought this was a simple question so I am surpried there were no responses. I went to the Apple Store and tried the mask on their computers with same result. It doesn't work. Also tried a PNG with same result. Guess this is a legitimate bug.

    Definitely works on 10.1 - I have a 16-point mask, using it, right in front of me
    How do I install it ? I do not have MTT and do not want to use MTT.
    It says "If you don’t want to use MTT, install these effects in Home / Movies / Motion Templates / Effects / Keying:"
    How do I do this ?

  • Point inside a polygon defined by four points

    Hello everyone.
    In my java aplication, I need to know if a point is inside a polygon defined by four points. These points can have any value.
    A solution is:
    1)trace four lines: since the point to analyze until all the four points of the polygon.
    2)Calculate the angles formed between these lines.
    3)If the sum of the four angles is equal to 360, the point is inside of the polygon.
    I think this could work, but i dont know how to make this in java. Can anyone help me? Other solutions are welcome.
    Thanks.
    Fatima

    This is the code from the jazz api:
        static public boolean isInsidePolygon(double x, double y, int np, double[] xp, double[] yp) {
            int i;
            double angle = 0.0;
            boolean inside = false;
            for (i = 0; i < (np - 1); i++) {
                angle += ZUtil.angleBetweenPoints(x, y, xp, yp[i], xp[i+1], yp[i+1]);
    angle += ZUtil.angleBetweenPoints(x, y, xp[np-1], yp[np-1], xp[0], yp[0]);
    // Allow for a bit of rounding
    // Ideally, angle should be 2*pi.
    if (java.lang.Math.abs(angle) > 6.2) {
    inside = true;
    } else {
    inside = false;
    return inside;
    Here is the API, the above method is in ZUtil class.
    You can download the source code from the jazz api web site and examine it.

  • Vi for Four-Point Probe Measurement?

    I am using LabVIEW 2010 in conjunction with my Keithley 2400 to take four-point probe measurements. Does anyone have a good vi for taking four-point probe measurements in LabVIEW? Any vi's for current sweeps would be greatly appreciated, as well.
    Thanks,
    Kenan

    Hello Kenan,
    Unfortunately, I didn't find any four point probe VI's internally, so hopefully some customers using the 2400 or a similar power supply will see this forum and post. Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Insufficient content for edit, four point editing, ignore out point on source

    Hello folks,
    I'm a long time FCP 7 and Avid editor currently using 8.2 for two short form museum films and have been running into all sort of questions.  This one comes up multiple times a day.  I tried to search for this here but didn't find my exact issue or answers.
    I am trying to do a four point edit and I keep getting the "Insufficient Content for Edit" error.  My source is marked in and out for 5 sec and my timeline in and out is marked for 8 sec.  Four points total.  I have already checked the Ignore Source Out point in the Fit Clip window and have checked the "Remember" box as well.  My source definitely have enough footage to fill the marked 8 sec in the timeline.  So why isn't PP ignoring the source out point when I commit the edit?  Of course, I works properly if I go to the Source window and remove the out point manually but that's a pain and shouldn't be the way.  Is PP not capable of this? or Am I doing something wrong?  What is the point of the "Ignore Source Out Point" if it doesn't apply to this very common situation?
    Thanks for any help you folks can offer.
    CHL

    I think I know what the issue is.
    When the Fit Clip dialog opens for me and the source is shorter than the destination, "Ignore Source In Point" and "Ignore Source Out Point" are grayed out. In other words, when the source is shorter than the destination, my only option is to ignore sequence in or out points.
    If my source is longer than my destination then it allows me to check ignore source in or out. However, if I have Premiere remember this choice, when I try to insert a source clip that is shorter than the destination, I get the error that you get.
    It's obviously a terrible setup and shouldn't be like this, but that's why it's happening.

  • Custom mask in FCPX or perhaps Motion?

    Hi all, can anyone help please?
    I have a sequence where a bride and groom walk towards the camera. I have used the retime function to slow the clip down and eventually freeze it. I would now like to create a mask where the couple remain in colour and the rest of the guests etc fade to B+W. I have to admit I am stumped as to how to achieve this as I cant find a bezier tool in FCPX, and I dont know how to export the image into Motion to apply a mask and then back to FCPX. Gone round and round in circles trying to figure this out and have just opened a big bucket of fail! Im new to FCP and indeed Mac so I realise im very much a noob, but would really appreciate some pointers.
    Thanks in advance!
    Andy.

    It's that not difficult to do in FCPX.  That type of effect needs to be done in the Color Correction feature of the video and I'll do my best to explain.
    1.   Place your playhead over the section you wish to apply this effect.
    2.   Go to your Inspector window, and make sure you have Video selected in the above tabs.
    3.   Go to your Correction 1 tab and click on the Mask icon (it's the second image next to the eyedropper).
    4.  You will now see a circular mask with two rings on your video.  The inner ring defines the shape of the mask and the outer ring defines the feathering.
    5.  Create the mask you want with this tool.  (If you want a square mask, look for a "white" button near one of the green transforming buttons.  Using this white button will tweak the shape of the mask.)
    6.  Now go back to the Inspector window-->Correction 1 and click the Right Arrow.  This will take you to a Color Correction tools.
    7.  At the bottom of that window there are 2 buttons: Inside Mask and Outside Mask.  Click on the Outside Mask.
    8.  Click on the Saturation choice at the top and drag the large Saturation button down.  That will desaturate the image outside of the square.
    That's it!  If you want to fade-in this color change, you can keyframe the Saturation within the clip.
    Good luck!

    Hallo, ich habe mein FPS 1600 seit ca. 5-6 Jahren. Leider habe ich nun Probleme mit dem 4. System. • Are in and out points reliable in FCPX?

    On a few clips, I have selected the in and out point, and when looking at the selected clip in the keyword collection, see that the last frame is actually one frame into the next scene in the original clip.
    This behaviour also appears when skimming footage and sometimes when adding to the project and exporting.
    When I select an out point, should I in fact select the previous frame to the one I actually want to be the out point?
    Never had this in FCP7 - maybe I am missing something!

    I have tried to demonstrate this: http://youtu.be/3uoUeqZh_og
    In this demo, the output file and project are ok, but I have had situations where the extra frame is in the output file also. Unfortunately I can't re-produce that just now, but will let you know if I can.

  • Motion track track point moving out of picture

    I open a door, and inside I want to put an image. When opening the door I want the image inside to reveal as I open the door. I tried to motion track the door opening so I could get the mask to follow the edge of the door. Unfortunately the door moves out of the picture, leaving the motion tracking insufficient. I tried moving the mask manually, but that didn't work at all. The mask couldn't follow the movement of the door. Also the door is white, so I don't have much contrast to point the tracker on.
     Any suggestions?

    Hi
    Without seeing your footage it is hard to comment, but hey I will anyway! Are you trying to completely replace what would be behind the door? i.e. the doorway now looks out onto a completely different scene? I'd go to the end of the shot, where the door is clear and create/add a simple four point mask that fits the doorway. If you have your new image in the layer below, you should now see this through the open doorway. Now reframe the mask points and work backwards through the footage, if you're lucky you might only have to move one edge of the mask as the door closes ( presuming the door has a straight edge!). You might need to go back and fix the top and bottom of the mask depending on the angle the footage was shot at.
    Sometimes its quicker and easier to animate these things by hand rather than rely on tracking.

  • More than just MASK in 4 point in Keynote '09

    Hi,
    recently using keynote for my iWeb design "front Page" ,it's useful stuff.
    I realised that the Mask Edit c'ld be "Make Editable" in four point.
    It's useful when edit in a round shape..how to make it more than just four point editable?
    thanks

    With the mask selected and editable, the control points should appear as red circles. Click on the point you want to remove -- it should turn white. Now you can press the delete key to delete it.

  • Color correction shape mask keyframes!!!

    Using FCPX for color correction, but when I add a shape mask and animate it using keyframes, I have no way to smooth the keyframes and control their smoothness!!!  Someone PLEASE tell me I'm just missing on the way to do it...  I tried everything.
    Thanks

    I created some animatable masks (keyframeable on-screen control points). It's three keying effects: a single 4 point mask (like the one that comes with FCPX), a two 4 point set (essentially an 8-point), and a four 4 point set (essentially a 16-point.)
    Please watch the video for best use guides. Most of the time, layering on 2 or more single 4 point mask shapes is quite addequte to do most of your masking needs.

  • Keyframe shape mask effects?

    Can you keyframe shape mask effects?
    I'm trying to keyframe a simple shape mask effecting the outside area: -86 exposure to 0 exposure, meaning that first, inside the mask all is seen, while outside llittle is seen, then move to 0 exposure where all is seen. But clicking keyframes next to shape mask (below Color Correction 1) doesn't work. I input -86, click keyframe then move to where I want and input 0, but that's how the whole clip appears with no gradation changes.
    Any suggestions?

  • Limit Mask Test Limit Trapezoid Profile

    So to one of our proportional valves, we are going to use the gain scheduling set point profile to create a trapezoidal input current to the valve. This trapezoidal input represents one cycle for the rocker arm we are controlling (it is periodic and this profile is repeated for many cycles). I'm creating a fail-safe system and am wanting to create a limit profile that is essentially an offsetted trapezoid of +/- 1 mA. The largest and smallest trapezoids would be the constraints and the middle one would be the input to the system. I want it where if the input current exceeds this inner or outer trapezoid, the system goes into the safe state. I've tried using the Mask and Limit VI and defined my upper and lower limits by making 4 different points for each limit but when I give it my input signal and observe the tested signal, all I see is the input to the system with a horizontal line at y=0 which is the green colored limit. I can get the constant upper and lower limits to work but I'd really like a closer more defined constraint since we are controlling a very big structure. What am I doing wrong? I've attached a picture of the input to the system.

    Hello,
    I believe the issue is that you do not have enough datapoints defining your upper and lower limits.  You only placed coordinates for the vertices of each trapezoid.  The Mask and Limit Testing VI will not automatically generate datapoints between these points it needs a full set of datapoints defining the whole graph.
    Your input data has much more datapoints than the actual boundary you've defined, that's why it appears as a line at y = 0.  It plots four points on a chart that probably that has much more data points on the input.  You should generate trapezoidal signals and wire those signals into the upper and lower limit inputs of the express VI.  That way you do not have to fill out all the datapoints manually.
    Below I've attached an example LabVIEW project that shows how to do this.  I used this example to create a subVI to generate a trapezoidal signal.  It uses ramp functions to piece together an array of datapoints that looks like a trapezoid.
    I think you should use the "Generate Trapezoid" subVI I included in my project.  Generate the upper and lower trapezoids outside the while loop with the same amount of datapoints as you expect from your input data.  This should save processing so you don't have to generate the waveform each loop iteration.  It will look something like this:

  • Controlling the frame of a mask?

    Hi gang,
    I have to do a bunch of masks on still portraits.  I need each portrait to be the same frame size.  I want to use masks to standardize the frame size.  In FCPX I could use the 'Crop', which is okay.  But as I was experiment with the 'mask' I notice that the mask is more like a 4 point mask ... but there seems to be no way you can control the vertical, or horizontal, angle.  Which makes for a crooked mask.  This seems odd.  Is there a way to control the sides ... so they can be forced to be perfectly vertical or horizontal?
    And, while I'm asking ... can FCPX do multi-point (4,8,12) masks?
    Ben

    'Trim' in Crop you mean?  Yup, that's what I used.  Works fine.  But I used to do a lot of odd and useful things with masks/mattes in FCP7, and I'm trying to figure out what FCPX can do ... without me having to go to Motion.
    Thank you Russ,
