Foursquare Check-in? Map update, what is the advan...

I have just installed Ovi maps 3.04 on my X6-00. These, together with some apps for synchro-nizing time and geting better GPS positioning data, works very well. The GPS receiver is pretty sensistive, it works flawlessly even when the phone is mounted on the winshield visor just under the roof. The time to get a bearing is very acceptable, normally seconds, max 15 minutes.
Ovi maps 3.06 are now in the pipeline. Nokia is making a big deal that it can be downloaded directly to the phone via wlan/Foursquare check-in (whatever this is), thus not via a computer.
The point is, I don't want that. I have a very rapid internet connection at my job and a not so rapid connection/wlan at home, thus I prefer to do it via a computer.
Has anybody experience or comments on the two ways of downloading the maps?
Has anybody experience with 3.06 as compared to 3.04 on X6-00?

WIth Ovi Maps 3.06 you have the possibility to download the map data either via PC and Ovi Suite or directly to the device via WLAN. It doesn't matter which option you use, the same map data is downloaded in both cases. The method over WLAN is useful e.g. if you have Mac and cannot install Ovi Suite there. One of the advantages with the new map update feature in 3.06 is that it allows you to check directly in your device what country maps you have and if there's any updates available for them.

the software is not updateing on my iphone 4 it saying checking for software update what should i do?

The battery drain issue started when I updated my iphone 4 to the IOS 6.1.2.
The battery will go from 100% to 0% in about 3 hours !!!
I called Apple support and they told me that they are not aware of an issue affecting the battery with the latest update. They did a diagnostic test on my iphone and found that my battery is healthy. Then then recommended that I backup my iphone, restore the factory settings and recover after that. In other words, delete everything off my iphone and reinstall everything all over again. I waisted a couple of hours doing that and .....I still have the issue of the battery drain.
I finally discovered the problem, and thus the solution!
To solve this issue, do the following:
Settings ---> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --->Fetch New Data ---> Advanced
Now click on your hotmail account or your company email account (anything in that folder other than yahoo, gmail or aol),
Change the setting from Push to Fetch !!!
And Viola ! Problem will be solved !
The problem seems to be that the mail exchange (i.e. microsoft, hotmail...etc) keeps checking and pushing emails from the exchange server every second (continiousely) and this is causing the battery to drain. When you change the setting to Fetch, then emails will start downloading every 15 min; but at least your battery will hold charge as it is supposed to do, until Apple comes up with 6.1.3 that hopefully will fix this issue.
Good luck. Hope this works out for you folks hence it sure did work for me this morning and it sure feels great.
    Cheers !

  • OVI maps. What's the point ???

Just noticed my E63 came with OVI maps and I know the E63 doesn't have AGPS.. so what's the point???

The point is that it can be used as an interactive map book, that also lets you look up things like points of interest.
Comes in very useful when visiting large cities for the first time, even without GPS.
You have to also remember that some people have been using google maps on phones for years for this purpose.  The advantage of OVI maps is that you can actually have the maps on your device so no data connection is needed.

  • Checking performance on XE, what is the best tools.

    Hi, all
I'm trying to see how better to use tuning tools and I'm on XE now. What is the simplest way to start with?
I do autotarace for now, which also give me Plan, is it good enough? or Does Expaln Plan shows something else?
I also tried to play with v$ but coulnd find them on XE, is it correct?
set autotrace on/off Apprecite your information, actually it's hard to find good explanation of going thru Plan.

I meant that I have hard time finding info how to anylyze Plan, how to find which action could be replaced, like let say i this sample from your link, looking at what numbers/steps you can tell where you can tune this sql?
    EXPLAIN PLAN FOR
    SELECT e.employee_id, j.job_title, e.salary, d.department_name
        FROM employees e, jobs j, departments d
        WHERE  e.employee_id < 103
           AND e.job_id = j.job_id
           AND e.department_id = d.department_id;

  • Double check my interface config, what is the "vpc" line?

    Dual nexus 5010 switches,
Say I'm bringing up a new LACP port for a server, this is what I'd do (on both switches)
    interface   port-channel135
    description LouPrBdw025
    vpc 135
    switchport access vlan 14
    interface   Ethernet105/1/7
    description LouPrBdw025
    switchport access vlan 14
    channel-group 135 mode active
I understand everything there, and this works, but on the port-channel interface, what is the "vpc 135" line for? is it needed?

    Hi,
According to the IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation standard, an aggregate link (or port-channel in Cisco terminology) is only allowed between two devices e.g., a single switch and a server. This can be used if you want to add additional bandwidth or provide resilience against link failure, but it doesn't provide resilience against a switch failure.
The Cisco vPC (virtual port-channel) is a proprietary mechanism that allows two Cisco Nexus switches to appear to a downstream device as if it's a single switch. This allows the Nexus switches to work as per the IEEE standard, and at the same time adds resilience against a single switch failure.
The vpc command is that which enables this functionality on the port-channel interface of the Nexus switches.
You'll need the command if you're running vPC i.e., the physical links of the aggregate from the downstream device are distributed across both Nexus switches. If you're going to run standard port-channel i.e., all physical links from the downstream device connected to a single Nexus switch, then it's not needed.
There's some other configuration required to run vPC on the Nexus which you should be able to see if you execute the show running vpc command. You'll see feature vpc, vpc domain etc., that must all be configured prior to actually enabling the vpc command on a port-channel interface. If you say this is working then presumably that's already configured.

  • How do I get out of an iphone restoration loop, itunes keeps saying it has detected an iphone in restore mode and that it must check for software updates and reinstall the ios, it completes this process and then says: detected iphone in restore mode etc.,

Background: my iphone 3gs was running wonderfully - no issues at all, as normal.
I let the power run down to critical and got the empty battery screen - plugged it in and when it had enuf juice it displayed the cord-to-itunes-of-death-screen...
I had just backed up the previous to icloud so no worries... I just plugged in and thought ok this will just take a second...it completed the restore then said with a glazed amnesic font "Itunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, and has never seen or restored this iphone ever before, since this is a stranger iphone, itunes does not trust it and must call the ipolice to check for contraban in its orifices and cavities, you must restore"... kidding of course... but
OMG at home I did the whole restore process no less than 20 times while optimizing and accounting for different variables each time (restoring on a new system with a fresh OS, trying to restore and a mac, restoring then restarting empty cache, restart unistall itunes then restore restart restore, installing an older version of Itunes and restoring. going back to Vista and restoring), and every single time it would complete the check, the update/check, the ios reinstall, and then whatever else and say "complete"... and then no icon menu would appear for the device in itunes so unplug the phone and replug and get the whole "Itunes must render restore aid" message. SO I went to the genuis bar at my local iBoutique thrice - each time the bewildered but very courteous and knowledgable genuis wanted to keep trying ... since I had been on this treadmill for about two weeks I decided each time to respect my fellow appletonians and not suck up genius time... but I really want my old 3gs back... why - I like that it amazes the youth who occaisonal are puzzled by seeing something apple that they don't recognize and in wonder and amazement at its age they learn that even though its no longer invited to iOS family gatherings that it still can call home and ask why Apple waited so long when it was a kid to give it copy-paste ability like all the other kids, then ask for money for the shrink bill.. ... . . ..

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
    Hope this helps!!

  • BB10 Updates - What's the latest version now released?

    It's been 1 month since I used my Q10
With so many bugs & problems, my OS is still 10.1.0.2309
I keep checking for updates almost everynight.
Is there any new updates than the one I currently have?

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions in this link below.
The ONLY difference is that you will need to find the autoloader file for the OS release you wish to install, but the base instructions are the same.

  • Gingerbread update -- What's the big deal?

Having found Froyo to be a very useful update, I was curious what to expect for Gingerbread, so I looked up the Top 10 (according to one ZDNET blogger) Features of Gingerbread:  http://www.zdnet.com/blog/burnette/top-10-features-in-android-23-gingerbread/2143
They're broken down between top 5 user features and top 5 developer features.  Below are the top 5 user feature [with my comments].  I'm just curious why folks are in such a lather over Gingerbread -- what am I missing out on?
New on-screen keyboard. The standard keyboard has been greatly improved in Android 2.3, with faster input and more intuitive typing. Even cut-and-paste got a makeover. [IMHO the HTC Sense KB on TB is very good -- perhaps this feature is needed on other Android phones]
Streamlined user interface. New color schemes and various UI changes and polish make Android more consistent and simpler to use. [Yawn].
Application and power management. Android 2.3 provides better insight into what is running in the background, how much memory and CPU time it is using, and even lets you kill misbehaving apps. Yes, after months of telling us we don’t need a task killer, they give us a task killer. Enjoy your chuckle, iPhone fans. [I'm pretty happy with the Apps manager in 2.2, but I don't run tons of Apps].
SIP Internet calling. Voice over IP is integrated directly into Android 2.3. Unfortunately you’ll have to get a SIP account from a third party, and the ability might be curtailed on some carriers. [I can see this as very useful for some TB owners -- but really, how many of you use VOIP?]
Download management. All your downloads from your browser, email, and other apps, can now be viewed and controlled from one place. [Thus far, I haven't had any issues with download mgmt.  I use the "OI File Manager" app, but perhaps the few apps I use which download stuff happen to be in the "well behaved" category -- e.g. let me know where they're downloading?"]

it's not that big of a deal to me (or i would've got it by now). it's not nearly as critcal as froyo was (flash, etc). what bothers me though, is that it can and has been done. and now verizon is capable of pushing it to other devices.....older ones and newer ones....so why not us? i'm not going to throw fits or gripe about it, but since you brought it up, my opinion is that they plastered ads all over the place when they launched this device....and then just sort of gave up on it (took forever for anyone to offer cases for extended batteries, a BAD update, i'm still not sure if they ever got the dock that they had advertised and then pulled from their site??? etc, etc). i'm happy with my tbolt and have been fine with froyo, but GB is being pushed to other devices so there's really no reason we shouldn't have it soon.

  • My map app continues to crash when trying to open it. It also affects apps using the map. What is the fix?

Everytime I try to use an app that requires use of the native map app the app will crash. I have updated the phone (iPhone 6) to iOS 8.1 but the problem continues. Is there any fix for this? I can't use any of my running and walking apps.

Contact NI and ask for their assistance as that is not normal behaviour and it would seem your Machine installation has corrupted something in some way.....

  • Nokia Maps Update Information

    Hi All,
On the Nokia Maps FAQ it states the following regarding updates:
1.11 How often is the map data in Nokia Maps updated?
The map data will be updated twice a year. You can check for map updates in the Nokia Maps application through Options > Settings > Network > Options > Check for map Updates.
On my E65 I don't appear to have this option to check for updates.
Can someone let me know how to check which map version I have and how to find out when new maps are available.
    Cheers,
    co

    Hi chrowe
Whilst Nokia Maps is running goto Options > About to check what version you have.
Provided that a "network connection" is available I believe that the "Check for Map Updates only appears if application detects disparity between stored maps and those currently available, but I might be wrong on this.

  • E71 maps updating

    Hi gang
    so what am I missing
I was driving along a new piece of road , except the nokia maps said I was in a field,
    so
    Q. how do you update a map,
I looked on Maps Updater software but the uk is greyed out,
    ta!
If a smart phone is smart, why is mine so dumb
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No harm to check to make sure you have the latest version of Nokia Maps on your phone.
Maps are updated regularly. Unfortunately the current version of Map Loader does not tell you when this happens. The best things to do is to download map data regularly. I make it a point to do so every few months. This way I know it is always up to date.
    Thanks for the kudos.

  • UK map update causing apps to crash

I updated the UK map this morning on my Nokia 520. Now both the Here Maps and Here Drive apps crash after loading. I have reinstalled the apps and rebooted the phone but the problem persists. Here Maps still works with other downloaded maps, e.g. Turkey.

I'm still having a problem after downloading the recent UK offline map update. Whenever I get directions, it plots a route to the destination but still carries on wih the 'getting directions...' loading bar and the app crawls to a halt.
If I delete the offline map the app works fine, so it's down to the the map update and possibly the fact I have a Nokia 720, what is now classed as a low memory device.
I'd rather have the offline map installed to save data if possible.
