  • Will not open email links, but will when closed?

Using MS Office 2011 for Mac: Outlook links will not open in Firefox even though Firefox is running in the background - clicking on the link brings Firefox to the forefront, but it doesn't actually do anything.
However, if I quit Firefox then the Outlook link will open? Firefox is my default browser.
    Cheers,
    Alan

  • HT2523 My TextEdit will not open email attachments ending docx. How can I remedy this?

My TextEdit will not open email attachments ending docx. How can I remedy this?

No, TextEdit cannot read those. You will need to convert them to .doc files first:
Mac users using Word 2004 who receive a Word 2008 for Mac, (or Word 2007 for Windows) document, will not be able to read this without having the Open XML Converter installed, which can be downloaded from Microsoft.
    Go to this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx
and click on the right under Most Popular, 'Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2'
This opens a window at the bottom of the page. Scroll that to the bottom and click on English.dmg, and it will download for you as a disk image, which can be installed in the usual way.
After installation you can open and read .xml formatted Word 2008 documents in Word 2004.
Update: This link  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976831  takes you to a newer version 1.1.3 (released Nov 10, 2009).

But you can download DNG converter 8.6 or newer and create digital negative (DNG) copies that will be compatible with Photoshop CS5. • Will not load sites linked from another website--have cleared cache, cookies, history, restarted, checked in Safe Mode--still does not work.

Some sites load fine. But some sites will not load when linked from another web site, or, occasionally, even from my bookmarks. I went through troubleshooting routine--cleared cache and cookies, history, checked in Safe Mode for extensions, etc., but still will not work in Safe Mode. No other problems with computer or browser.

What happens when you click the link that does not open up the new page? Is it a blank page? Does this also happen if you Shift Click the link?

  • Additional tab will not open for links

previously i have been able to click on a link, and the link would open in a new window or tab. but now whenever i try to open a link through a website, it will not open the link in a new window or new tab. how can i fix this?

Hi ArletteGH, I'm not sure which one of these is the better description of your issue:
    If you Ctrl+click or middle-click a link:
    * Firefox creates a new tab, loads the link in that tab, but the tab stays in the background rather than being made active (default behavior)
    * Firefox creates a new tab, but doesn't actually fetch the page until you make the tab active
    * Firefox creates a new tab, but the tab and address bar stay blank, as though the address never got transferred to the page
Are any of those close to describing your problem?

iphoto on my used mac mini will not open my photos from my new macbook air,  it says something about updating the software, but i checked and there arent any updates available... please help

    Sorry for the second post..
I currently do not have an older version of iPhoto to test this on, but you might also try coping the Originals from the iPhoto Library of iPhoto 11.
    To do that;
    1. Right (control) click on the iPhoto Library in the Picture Folder on the MacBook Air
    2. Select Show Package Content.
    3. Click on the Originals Folder
    4. Navigate to the disired Event or photos and copy those images to your Flash or External Drive, then copy those to the older version of iPhoto.
Beware do not move, add or delete anything in the iPhoto Library, Apple has intensionally hidden it in later versions to prevent people from messing things up.

  • H8-1237c will not open web links/connection issues.

    Hello,
I have a new HP H8-1237c with Windows 7 64bit.  Verizon dsl with a Westell Versalink 327 modem and an Apple Airport Extreme.
Internet Explorer 9 will open the standard homepage, but will not open any links, or will sporadically open a few.  It will connect to google.com when I type that in the address bar, but not when I try to click on any search results.
Verizon tech support had me reset IE9 and it got hung up.  We restated the system in safe mode with networking and were able to ping google with good results.  Most links opened.
Upon restarting the system in standard mode, the links are not working again,  He suggested HP support.
I have not had any previous problems.  My laptop and ipads/touchpad all connect normally.
    Suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

    Mazz520, welcome to the forum.
I suggest trying Firefox or Chrome to see if either of them works properly.  If they do, it is a problem with IE9 settings.  If they don't, it is most likely your ISP/Network settings.

  • Firefox will not start and open a website from a Thunderbird email link. It will go to a link from Thunderbird once Firefox is open, but will not initially start Firefox and proceed to open the Thunderbird email link.

Firefox will not ''start'' and open a website from a Thunderbird email link. A link from Thunderbird will open once Firefox is ''already'' started, but will not initially start Firefox and proceed to open the Thunderbird email link.

I also have this problem. I cannot open links from a discussion board I frequent nor can I open links from my email. Also after opening my email, I cannot go to any other sites except my home page. I can then go no where else.
When I close Firefox and try to reopen it, it does nothing! I have to bring up the Task Manager and end the Firefox process before I can get back in.
To the best of my knowledge, this problem started with the new update to Ver. 3.6.9. I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

  • Why do email hyperlinks open a new ff browser, but will not open the link?

'''''''''XPSP3 & FF3.6 & Outlook2003''''''''' : When I click on a hyperlink in outlook, a fresh occurence of ff opens (even though ff is already open) but the link will not open. This used to work before I upgraded to ff4.0, so I rolled back to 3.6 and still have the same problem. All the file type suggestions have been executed, but still no success. Can anyone offer any help?

The '''SearchToolbar/1.2''' that messed with your UserAgent might be the cause of that problem. Try some troubleshooting.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:
