Foxit Reader plugin is no longer working

I am asking this question only because someone else asked it and I have solved the problem. I can't reply to them because this is a new account...
I had the problem that the built-in pdf reader would always appear even after I installed and configured Foxit, and the built-in reader wasn't performing well during the "find" function (areas very far away from the actual found words were highlighted; very random and unhelpful). To fix the problem I did two things:
1) I disabled the built-in reader. I opened Options -->Applications and switched "Portable Document Format (PDF)" to "Use Foxit Reader Plugin..." Please note that on that tab you will most likely have several other "Content Types" shown that look like PDF things, but the ***key*** "Action" to change is the one associated with "Portable Document Format (PDF)".
2) In the "Add-ons Manager" under "Plugins" I changed "Foxit Reader Plugin" to "Always Activate". I also changed the "Adobe Acrobat" plugin (because I have both Acrobat Reader and Foxit installed) to "Never Activate".

Hi sheltonx,
Thank you for your question. Please also try to contact the support site of those two add ons.

Have you tried reinstalling the add ons?

  • Firefox will not use Foxit Reader plugin.

Why doesn't the configuration to use the Foxit Reader plugin for PDF files work? The Adobe Reader plugin (in Firefox) is used instead.
In Firefox 3.6.8 "Options" window, "Applications" tab, for "Content Type" -- "PDF file," the selected "Action" is "Use Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla (in Firefox)."
For "Content Type" -- "PDF file, in the "Action" dropdown list, no option is listed for "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)."
    The "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins" folder contains both (1) the Foxit Reader plugin (npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll ver.1.0.1.1117), and (2) the Adobe Reader plugin (nppdf32.dll ver.9.3.3.177).
When Firefox connects to a website using a URL for a PDF file, the PDF document always appears in Firefox using Adobe Reader.
Given the configuration, why doesn't Firefox open the file using Foxit Reader? How can this be fixed?
Operating system is Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
    Thank you.

BTW, Foxit has released Foxit Reader 4.3.0 which uses Firefox plugin 2.0.2010.1103.Plz take a look at foxit download center:http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/index.php

  • Foxit Reader has just been upgraded to 7.0. What is the latest Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla?

Today 24 Sep 2014 I received notice and Upgraded to Foxit Reader 7.0.
Under Plugins in Thunderbird it says Unknown. When you click on the Research Button the question is not answered in the list given.
I am presently using Plugin 2.2.4.903 is there a later one.
What is the Latest Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla?

You'd need to check with Foxit. Plugins are 3rd party software, and not provided by Mozilla.

  • Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.3.111 blocked while blocklist.xml tops out at maxVersion="2.2.1.530"

Attempting to open a .pdf with Firefox 18.0, and having Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.3.111 installed, I receive the gray lego piece page with text "The plugin is vulnerable and should be updated/Check for updates/Click here to activate the Foxit Reader for Mozilla plugin"
I look into the blocklist.xml file and find the plugin item:
    <pluginItem blockID="p250">
    <match name="filename" exp="npFoxitReaderPlugin\.dll" /> <versionRange minVersion="0" maxVersion="2.2.1.530" severity="0" vulnerabilitystatus="2"></versionRange>
    </pluginItem>
Next, I view installed plugins and find: Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.3.111, and it is not disabled.
My first question is why, when the installed plugin version is 2.2.3.111, and the blocklist maxVersion is 2.2.1.530, do I receive any kind of plugin blocked page?
My second question is "is there any method or technique so specifically unblock a particular plugin, without affecting any other plugin?"
    I force-reinitialized the blocklist.xml file and database.
Currently, I am running extensions.blocklist.enabled false, to sidestep this exact problem, but would definitely prefer to have this set true.
    Thanks.

    Hi cor-el,
I ''did'' see the bug report, that relates to ''2.2.1.530 AND BELOW''.
The current installed plugin is 2.2.3.111, which is ABOVE 2.2.1.530, hence the blocklist should not apply, since its setting "maxVersion", apparently the maximum version to which the block list should apply, is 2.2.1.530.
Thank your for looking into this, though.
Possibly I do not understand the maxVersion property in the .xml?

  • The Shockwave for Director plugin is no longer working in Firefox 7 for mac

    Dear Firefox,
I run a website which uses Adobe's Shockwave for Director plugin to view an animation. This plugin worked perfectly in Firefox for mac, up until Firefox 7. Firefox now sees it only as an unknown added plugin and the animation can no longer open. I have the latest plugin version installed from Adobe, which works fine in Firefox 7 for windows, in Safari (mac, win) and Internet Explorer (win). The Flash plugin is also working fine.
In the preference panel, I have allowed Adobe to install plugins. Do I need to change other settings? Is something stopping Firefox for mac from properly loading the plugin?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Have you tried this one?

  • Do I need Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla?

I have no problems with Reader when using Firefox, except I was reminded to install an update today, which is not working. My plugin, which was last updated July 2013 is set to always activate, but since it's not up-to-date, it's not possibly activated.
Do I need plugin for updating? Do I need it at all if the application works?
    Thank you.

    Ralph,
The plugin version I have is 2.2.3.703.
Maybe at one point you needed the Mozilla plugin.
As far as I know, Foxit works great without it, so I will uninstall.
Since Foxit wouldn't send me a reminder to update my plugin, I will have to find which update I missed.
Thank you for answering so quickly.
    Nice job!

  • Reader plugin for Chrome versions 42+ no longer work

As of 04/15/2015, Google has deprecated the NPAPI which the Adobe Reader plugin apparently uses (see NPAPI deprecation: developer guide - The Chromium Projects)   This means the Adobe Reader plugin for Chrome no longer works.
Does Adobe have any plans to provide a new plugin or extension for Chrome?
If not, what is an alternative that can handle .xdp forms?  I've tried PDF Viewer (PDF.js), Notable PDF, and Xodo but none of them handle .xdp files.

All:  I use the Adobe Reader plugin a lot for work. I have found a workaround to the new Chrome version 42 update that has removed the NPAPI plugins, including Adobe Reader.
In the Chrome browser URL, type "chrome://flags". Find the flag called "Enable NPAPI Mac, Windows" and click "Enable".
Then, go back to your plugins in Chrome, "chrome://plugins". Make sure the Adobe Reader plugin is Enabled and the Chrome PDF Viewer is disabled. Everything should work as it did before.

  • Foxit Reader won't work with HP Laptop Help and Support Guides, any suggestions?

New HP Pavilion with Windows 7 x64 I downloaded Foxit Reader and installed it and then Uninstalled Adobe Reader to save space. Then, although it will open my PDF's in "My Documents", it will not open the Guides or Learning PDF's in the HP Help and Support files. Is there someone with more experience using Foxit Reader than can suggest a work around? If I reinstall Adobe PDF then it all works again.
    John

    the-edmeister,
Thank you! # 30 Under "Foxit Reader". I went back and set the Foxit Reader as the Default. I'm pretty sure that I did that when I first installed it and it asked if I wanted Foxit to be the Default Reader. Anyway, I think it is fixed.

  • Javascript Access to Adobe Reader Plugin

This is more of a developer question but I thought I would give it a shot because I have yet to find any documentation.
Does Safari have scripting access to the Adobe Reader plugin?
The following works in IE because printWithDialog(); function is revealed to IE javascript when a PDF is embeded.
    javascript:
    var thePdf = document.getElementById("printFrame");
    thePdf.printWithDialog();
embed in the body of the web page:
    <embed height="400" width="370" name="printFrame" id="printFrame" src="theFile.pdf" />
Can I do something similiar in Safari?
    Thank you,
    -jscott

Yes it does. It works on the website I support. We do it thru a javascript popwin and it loads in all browsers.

  • Does Adobe Reader plugin work in Firefox 11 if launched from Gnome?

Sorry to cross post, but I couldn't figure out how to move my post from the "Adobe Reader" forum to the "Adobe Reader for Unix" forum.
If I launch Firefox (version 11) from the command line (Linux shell), then I can open a PDF with the Adobe Reader plugin.  But if I launch Firefox from the desktop or panel in Gnome, I get the message "Could not launch Adobe Reader 9.1.0. Please make sure it exists in PATH variable in the environment.  If the problem persists, please reinstall the application."
acroread is in the PATH variable - I checked ("which acroread" and "echo $PATH")
We are using acroread 9.3.2.  We tried updating to the latest acroread 9.4.something ...? but the SendMail option was missing from Edit->Preferences, so we reverted to 9.3.2.
We are using Debian Linux 5.0.8.
It is very convenient and user-friendly in our library for visitors to be able to view a PDF in the browser (with the plugin) and to be able to just click on the envelope icon from there to send a PDF.
This was working fine until we upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.4.  We reverted to 9.3.2, and everything was working fine again.  Then our systems people did some things, including updating Mozilla Firefox from version 3.6.13 to version 11.  Then the plugin stopped working from the Gnome launch panel.  I tried running the old Firefox 3.6.13 from the Gnome launch panel, but the plugin no longer works in it, either.
    Has anyone had this problem?
Sometimes running Firefox from the command line gives some errors.  I tried various versions of nppdf.so and tried toggling the about:config variable "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nppdf.so" but nothing changed.

I have the same or a very similar issue on WIn7 64bit

  • Divx and other media related plugins always crash and/or no longer work, please help

Why is nothing of divx seems to work anymore? Every time i try to watch a video online using a divx site or site that uses a divx player, i get the message
"divx plus web player pluging has cashed, send crash report"
I send it - then am offered the option to reload the page once reloaded a press play the player then says connecting and then crashes again!!!
    FF this is ridiculas!!
None of the divx plugins are recognised anymore and the divx web player add on is marked as incompatible, and there is not an option to enable it! When i click on the '''bold text'''more '''bold text'''option all that apears is the link to website where you download the exact same up to date version that you already have.
im using windows vista home basic 32-bit operating system, & the new version of firefox.
Its really annoying that these extensions and plugins no longer work crash and/or are no longer recognised espcially considering firefox insisted we upgrade for security issue etc and that 3.6 wont be kept up to date any more, I want reinstall the 3.6 version but am worried about security issues now.
will the divx plugin and addon/extension be added to this new version anytime soon if not what can i do to enable me to watch videos without the plugin crashing ? (i have updated all the pluggins but the problem still occurs) ?

I am having the same problems as well. Every time I turned around there was a new version of Firefox 8.0. Prior to the constant updating of Firefox I was able to watch movies from Stagevu and Veehd and now because of the new Firefox I cannot watch any movies. I also tried the VLC plugin and that constantly crashes as well as the DivX Web Player. I read so many complaints and no one from Firefox or any of the other browser is giving any of their constituents or customers whatever you want to call us any solutions to the problem and I am beginning to get a little frustrated. I have tried all of the other browsers like the Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and I still come up with the same problem.

  • After resetting all plug-ins a recently installed plugin no longer works and will not reinstall. It will not show up in the add-ons depsite saying it installed

I recently had to reset my plugins using Firefox 12 in safemode to get rid of an extension/add-on causing a redirect problem. All has been well, except a plugin I needed no longer works. It is called "missing-e" and is for Tumblr.
I have tried reinstalling it at least 5 times, per their instructions, and am now here after they said it was a browser issue. I do get prompted to install it to firefox, I have it install, I get the message it was installed correctly - but then it never shows up in either the Extensions or Plugins area under Add-Ons area (though nothing ever shows up in Extensions). And the features it enables in tumblr are not enabled.
The 'missing-e' people sent me here saying they believe this is a browser problem.

Are you talking about plugins or extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) as you mention Safe mode?
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

  • "shortcuts" plugin no longer works, none appear

Google Shortcuts 2.1.6 is installed. Windows XP, sp3. It was working as described. Dont remember what change killed it. Icon no longer appears. Set up for drop down list. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times with no success.
Works great in my laptop/Win 7.
Some of the services are set up as bookmarks (since shortcuts quit). They work fine that way.

n Firefox make sure you have at least two (2) tabs open - (Ctrl+T opens a new tab)
In the address bar of one tab, type "about:config" - minus the quotes, of course
You'll see a warning. Click "I'll be careful, I promise" and continue to the configuration page.
There's a search bar at the top. Type "js" - again, minus the quotes.
In the results you'll see pdfjsviewer.disabled with a vaule of false. Click it once, then right click it and choose Toggle to make the value "True".
    Close that tab.
Click Tools>Options and go to the Applications tab
Locate Adobe Acrobat Document (or Portable Document File (PDF)) in the list and click the drop-down to select "Use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)". (Mine doesn't have that because I also have Acrobat Pro installed)
    Click OK.
Click Tools>Addons to see that the Acrobat plugin is installed
Close and restart Firefox. PDFs should now open in a browser window with the Reader plugin.
Note: This doesn't work for me since the update to 23 and I should have the choice of Reader or Acrobat plugins. Firefox is trying desperatelt to FORCE users to use their crappy PDFJSViewer, which doesn't handle multimedis or forms PDFs.
As to the NPAPI and security risks, that's blown WAY out of proprotion. There are antivirus companies trying to sell their products to Mac users (who will NEVER need them) and they use this "urban legend" to bolster their case.
