FPGA Reset during power loss? NI 9802 Module

We have recently started using the NI 9802 on a cRIO system. We are getting the error -65550 discussed here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/BD118434E87B9732862575C8006FD7FB
The article says that the error can be caused by the FPGA resetting while the drive was mounted. "To prevent this error from happening in the future, do not reset the
FPGA while you have an SD card mounted, reset before you mount the card
or after the card is unmounted." Does a power loss reset the FPGA and require you to reformat the card??? We plan to use this as a remote system and power failure is possible. We would not be able to travel hundreds of miles back to the device to reformat an SD card in the event of a power loss. This can't be right. How could they sell a module that worked like that?
Also, does the card need to be formatted with FAT32 or FAT16?

I would like to submit a suggestion for the next version of this module. It would be awesome if in the rare but possible case of the crio losing power that the card did not become corrupt and you would then not need to travel all the way to the device and pull the SD cards out and reformat them with a pc before your system could be come operational. Like the ability to reformat at run-time would be a decent fail safe function. Even though you would lose all the data you had recorded onto the SD Card, wasting time and money, at least the entire system would not be fatally crippled by a simple loss of power and unexpected device reboot.
As it stands, even with a quality power backup battery as you have suggested, the simple possibility that you could lose power and need to manually perform a format on the SD card makes this module inferior to simply plugging in a big USB drive, both in terms of reliability and storage space. The appeal to this module, even though it could only hold two 2 gig SD cards, was its apparent ruggedness and reliability over using a usb drive.
Respectfully waiting for a new version of this module,
Rex

  • Have to reset WRT54G after a power loss

    Hi,
I have a WRT54G ver 2 running firmware version 4.21.1.  "Keep Alive" is enabled for the PPoE connection to my provider.
    My two problems:
    1) Anytime I encounter a power loss I have to reset the router and then of course reconfigure it.  In the past, I never had to do this whenever there was a loss of power.
    2) In a related problem, I cannot use the wireless print server.  As soon as I get it configured and working other PCs on my network lose internet connectivity.  That forces me to reset the the router, which forces me to reconfigure the wireless print server, and the sysle begins again!
Is it possible the ver of firmware I'm running is the issue or do I have a faulty router?

Routers seem to be sensitive to electrical surges and noise. This can cause them to loose their settings. You should keep your router plugged into a high quality surge suppressor with EMI/RFI filtering, such as the Belkin SurgeMaster Gold Series.  EMI/RFI filtering is required.  A surge suppressor alone is not enough because surge suppression does not start until the voltage exceeds 330 volts. Alternatively, most UPS devices have both surge suppression and EMI/RFI filtering.
If this does not prevent your router from "forgetting" its settings, then the router is malfunctioning, and it should be replaced. A router that forgets its settings is not secure.

    Hi,
we have a Wireless LAN Controller WLC 4402, Software Version 4.1.192.22M (Mesh).
At the moment there are 6 Access Points in one house, one of them is the root AP. The others are only connected via electrical socket.
    AP’s are: AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 / Boot Version 12.3.8.0 / IOS Version 12.4(3g)JMC1
I think the configuration worked fine over a period of 2 years.
Now the problem is that the number of access points connected to the controller is changing nearly every minute. At times there is only one AP connected to the controller. So it is impossible for the clients to build up a steady connection. They have to log in via the guest user web interface at short intervals or they can’t see the wireless lan.
First we thought it would be a problem of one or two “defect” access points. But we replaced 4 of the 6 access points and the problem is still there.
    An example, yesterday:
    13:17 o’clock – 2 AP’s
    13:19 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:21 o’clock – 5 AP’s
    13:23 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:25 o’clock – 5 AP’s
    13:25 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:26 o’clock – 5 AP’s
    13:26 o’clock – 6 AP’s
    13:28 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:28 o’clock – 2 AP’s
Eye-catching is the following message of the log, which appears often: “52       Mon May 16 13:21:56 2011        AP 'AP001d.e557.6fd8', MAC: 00:1d:70:01:bc:20 disassociated previously due to AP Reset. Last reboot reason: power loss
Also eye-catching is the AP up time. The Root AP is up for over 80 days. But all the other access points show an up time of a few minutes until some hours…but not more.
Does anybody know what the problem could be?? I read some similar threads but no solution.

    Hey,
last week I tried to upgrade the controller step-by-step.
Under the software 4.1.192.35M the problem was still there… access points were often disassociated from the controller.
There were problems with Software 4.2.207.54M too. The access points couldn’t reach the download-status. The log of the access point said that it could not open the tar-file.
So I went back to 4.1.192.35M. Of course the controller lost some of its configuration. I configured it new with the same settings as before.
After it the wireless connection seemed to be a little bit more robust. I asked the users to test the connection at the weekend and this is the answer:
“so we tested the WLAN during the weekend. The situation definitely improved with respect to before. Authetication is much faster and the connection (when active) is sensibly faster.
However the connection is still very unstable and it is necessary every five-ten minutes to reconnect (especially for intense network traffic like when watching a streaming content or using VOIP applications. Actually switching off and on again the WLAN card (Airport) often a new authentication is not required. However, without doing so the connection would not resume alone to a working state.
So what to say? Better than before (thanks) but far from being fixed. From last September to January we did not experience any problem, so it must be something that chronologically happened at the beginning of the year, it is not a systemic problem.
But there were no changes or anything else at the beginning of the year.
Do you mean it makes sense to resume upgrading? I’m a little bit afraid of more problems like under 4.2.207.54M
    Greetings Lydia

  • CRIO9074 RT jitter every 10 sec. when writing data to SD card through 9802 module

    Hi,
I am trying to use cRIO 9074 to collect data from different sensors at 50Hz  and log the data to SD card plugged in 9802 module. I use FPGA- scan interface hybrid mode because some sensors are just based on analog signals and others(i.e.. IMUs) are based on RS232.  This structure worked well. I used to transfer all the data to host VI in my desktop and log them there.
Recently, since I have more and more sensors, I decide to log all the data locally  to SD card on cRIO 9074.  However, I have a trouble.
I found my data are not continuous and always miss one second after ever other 10 seconds.  So I tried to insert a FIFO to buffer the data between two timed loops. The high priority loop is in charge of collecting data and the low one is in charge of writing.  But the problem still exists.  Actually, the problem has nothing to do with FIFO because 50Hz is  slow and I have validated that 9074 can collect and write all data within 10ms(100Hz).  Even with out FIFO, the program should work.
Finally, I find out an phenomenon that both the  two interaction variables "i" in the two timed loops will periodically stop for one second after every 10 second( I check them through front panel and probe).  At the same time, the CPU usage increase dramatically and after one second, it will go back to normal level.  That means the RT jitter every other 10 seconds and cannot work at this instant. If I fully delete the SD writing blocks, the problem is gone and the system works very smoothly.  So most likely, the problem is due to SD card module.
I tried different ways, i,e, changing the loop priority,  clock resources, the size of fifos.  Nothing works.  I even reduce the system frequency by two to 25 HZ, and even by 5 to 10 Hz. The problem still exists.
Attachments are two CPU usage check at 50HZ and 25HZ.  Usually it is below 80% at 50HZ so that the capability of CRIO9074 is not a problem at all.
And I also attach my RT VI which is messy,  because I almost go crazy thess days due to the problem . Does anybody have chance to check is there anything wrong in my VI? Or do I need to change the configuration of CRIO 9074 or update the RT engine?  It seems like a hardware problem.
Does anybody face the same problem before?

    Hi,Zach-H,
Thanks. Actually, my problem is already solved after I contacted one NI engineer online.
I shouldn't use timed loop to write SD card.   Because SD card batch writing is time consuming and its priority can't be high. "while loop" is good for SD card writing.

  • 8.02 POA crashes w/ntdll.dll fault after power loss

    Hi,
Running GW 8.0.2 on Windows 2003 server (POA, MTA and GWIA). After power loss on Friday, POA will not stay up for long - crashes with:
"Faulting application gwpoa.exe, version 8.0.2.10840, faulting module ntdll.dll version 5.2.3790.4455" error.
MTA and GWIA are not crashing.
I thought maybe it could be a corrupt message but the only messages in the queues are dated today and not Friday (\PO\wpcsout\ofs\4 - wpcsin queues are empty). I am currently running gwcheck.exe against the message databases but that is going to take a couple hours. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem. Below are the specs of my GroupWise servers:

The POA will randomly shut down with an ntdll.dll error fault. I have migrated this server to new hardware and a new OS (user to be on a 2003 R2 SP2 server and half the RAM). Same issue. Anyone have a fix for this?

  • Problems with connecting to internet after power loss w WRT54G v3

I'm having problems connecting to the internet after a power loss with my WRT54G v3 wireless router.  I'm at the latest firmware version (4.21.1).
I found similar problems with the V2 version of this router.
After a power failure, I can access the http interface to the router, all of my settings are there (not set to factory settings),the unit is connected to my ISP provider,I can ping from the router, but none of my wired or wireless PCs can ping.
To "fix" this condition, I have to reset to factory settings, then re-load my saved configuration. This usually works, but sometimes I have to hard reset the unit.
Anyone having this problem? Anyone have a fix?

Sudden loss of power for extended periods of time will 9x out of 10 will corrupt the saved configurations and can only be fixed in the way you already described.
A solution for this is getting an UPS incase of a power failure your equipment will be on battery back up until either the battery runs out or power is restored (depending on the model changed the battery time)

  • WLSE config/passwords gone after power loss

We have a WLSE 1130 that loses its configuration after a power loss, and all passwords.
The WLSE comes back up after the power loss, but is no longer reachable via ICMP.  It asks for the default admin login/password, then requires basic config info - ip info, new admin name/password, etc.  After this is completed and the WLSE is back up, all of the users passwords are wiped out and have to be reset.  But, everything else is OK.
We are running version 2.15.4.  Any ideas?

Well the date set back to 1969 is a classic sign of a dead battery.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's Battery, PRAM, PMU tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's, or Intel Macs) but the info in it, except SMU and SMC not being included, still applies. Luck ! DALE

  • FP 1001 intermittent power loss.

Hello all, I have a cooling tower that is controlled by a set of field points. At any given time, all of the field points will lose power. The power failure can lead to a complete cooling tower shut down, or leave it in an operating but non-controllable state. I see that the FP1001 has an operating temp of -40° to 70° C operating range. In the current environment, ambient temp is high. What happens when the temperature range for the FP1001 or any other module is exceeded? I'm focusing on an overheating issue, as I have checked and rechecked all incoming power without finding any issues.

I doubt that all of the fieldpoints would lose power at the same time if it was an overheating issue.  I would concentrate on the power supply issue if that is the only thing they have in common.  If power loss is an issue, then you should look at battery backup means to keep the power up.

  • Palm resets during Hotsync of Package Installer

Today, my Treo 755p started resetting during Hotsync, specifically the "Package Installer" step. If I uncheck Package Installer, Hotsync works fine. I'm using version 6.2.2 of the Palm Desktop with Vista. On my computer, the Package and Install folders are both empty. I did install some files a couple days ago, but sucessfully hotsynched after the installation.
I also tried to sync on another computer that I hotsync to only occassionally, and the same thing happened, suggesting the problem is on the Treo itself. I was hoping I could resolve this problem without a hard reset, as it seems my Treo isn't quite 100% as before the reset.
    Any suggestions?

Try a 10 second soft reset by taking out the battery for at least 10 seconds. This allows the device to power off completely, like a shutdown on a PC.
If that doesn't work, try renaming the backup folder on the PC in your username folder to backup.old. After the rename, sync the Treo and esee if you get the same error. If you do, you will need to hard reset the Treo.

  • No wifi after power loss

well, i just bought an E4200 and, by the way, was very hard to configurate.
But the real problem is: if there is a power loss, both modem and e4200 lights up, but no internet connection is provided.
Even the SSID desappear. I trried to disconnected everything, reconnect by parts, but no success.
I wired  connect the E4200 to my iMac and the router was ok, configurated.
Then, i reconnect to the modem and all worked ok.
Now im testing possibilities and is i reboot the router, the net desappear and i have to try possibilities till it works.
My older router connected automatically, without a problem, but i decide to buy "the best" brand and its top product". Now im disappointed..
Twice i realize that if the connections drops out, i have to disconnect and reconnect the internet cable from my E4200...
    Can anyone help me?
Im really crazy about that, caus im not a dummie at this things

Try to use a surge protector or a ups in that way if there's a power loss then the router or the modem will not automatically shuts down. For the stability of the router's internet connection try to check if the router's firmware has been updated if not update the formware, reset, power cycle and reconfigure the router's settings.

  • Emac won't power up after power loss

had a power loss and the emac naturally shut down. When power was restored, emac would not power up at all. I know about the need to unplug unit and did so overnight, but after sitting unplugged for 8 hours it still will not power up. Any thoughts?

I made what I consider the dumbest of all mistakes in that I did not "correctly" follow instructions. I knew that I needed to unplug the unit to let it "reset", but I failed to completely disconnect all the components. The unit was obviously getting some trickle from the battery in the router that also controls my phone. The lesson here is that when you disconnect the power to let it reset, be sure that it is completely disconnected. Lesson Learned! Thanks for the help.

  • Reboot after Power loss doesn't work

    The situation:
I bought a APC Back-UPS 350 and a mac mini for an exhibition.
The Power ist turned off by the stuff from time to time.
The UPS turns off the mac after 1 minute (10.4.7 works fine, 10.4.10 doesn't react at all but
    thats not the problem)
    The problem:
the mac doesn't restart after turning the power back on. I checked the "Power loss restart"-option
in the panel. I cleared the PRAM, did a reset on the SMC, … has anyone an idea or better: a solution? Thanks.

    Hi happyappleusersofar-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Any chance the UPS is not putting out any power for some reason? Have you tried this with the mini plugged directly into the wall?

  • W500 power loss

I have a W500 running WIndows 7 which unexpectedly turns off, usually when asleep but sometimes also while on. The turn off happens as if the power is lost (say, the battery/AC cord are yanked out). After a turn off like that, I sometimes need to reconnect the battery and the AC cord. Did some reading here and elsewhere on the web and came upon the electrostatic suggestion. Was able to get it to turn back on at least a few times by touching the underside of the laptop, but that worked inconsistently.
Since it mostly happens when the unit is asleep, I pretty much ruled out the temperature and software issues.
Decided to check out the memory section pin bending solution. My laptop has to have it's palm rest taken off to access the RAM modules. People kept referring to some RAM door pins but since mine doesn't have a special RAM door, I bent some pins on the bottom of the palm rest and so far, not power loss but too early to tell.
Btw laptop is not under any warranty. Any suggestions? Is what I did helpful usually? Any other reasons for sudden power loss that I'm missing? (other than software, heat, and electrostatic)
    Thank you!!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

BTW the problem is back, so the palm rest pin bending didn't solve it.
Found original batteries, one for $52 shipped from China, and another for $78 shipped from US. Are those normal prices for genuine batteries? There were a few others selling them for $160 or so. Just making sure the $52 and $78 prices are not too low for a real battery.

  • Error during generation of the function module..need help urgently

    Hello everyone,
m trying to generate data source in BWDevelopment.
After mapping all the BW fields to Source Object elements I click on Generate DataSource(for UD Connect) so following error comes
'An error occurred in step 1 during generation of the function module'
RFC connection is fine, error free and extractor is also fine.
    Where could be the problem?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Priyanka

    Hello everybody,
my problem is solved. For the UDConnect, whatever DATA SOURCES you create gets registered in a FUNCTION MODULE which has a capacity of only 99 enties, so to increase it implement the SAP NOTE 876340 - UDC Error available on SERVICE MARKET PLACE.
This problem occurs with BW version 3.5 level 17 or below.

  • Lightroom 5 says "There has been an error during the modification of the modules." Lightroom does not open, freezes.

Hi, I've got Creative Cloud, on a Mac Pro late 2010, 6 Core, 3.3 Gz, which has just been emptied and re-set with Yosemite. I've downloaded the Adobe stuff I need, especially Ps, Il, Id, Pp, Ae and Lightroom 5. Everything works find except Lightroom which doesn't open, giving me this message each time: "There has been an error during the modification of the modules."  There is no error number attached and the program freezes. I've got a deadline which has been broken because I can't finish the work I've started in Lightroom 5 on my old computer which I deactivated in order to run the new one. Now I don't know what to do nor where to look for the problem. I've placed the Lightroom Library on an external LaCie 4Big 8Tb Raid 5.
