FPS Issue on my graphics card

Hi all,
I actually have an MSI r5870 lightning and own a PC with this configuration:
asus p5ke
intel q6600 (overclocked to 4.0GHz)
8Gb (2x4) RAM corsair ddr2 800Mhz
msi r5870 lightning (supported
With this configuration I run BF3 with about 80 fps (average) with minimum 58 fps and maximun 102 fps
Recently I acquired some components and now I have a new PC with same graphics card:
msi z97 gaming 5 (BIOS 1.0 - 08/2014)
intel i5 4690k
16Gb (2x8) RAM kingston HyperX Savage 1600MHz
msi r5870 lightning
With this new configuration (the other component as well PSU, HDD ecc. are identical) I run BF3 with about 45 fps (average) with minimum 30 fps and maximum 60 fps
I am really surprised how the PC is worsed with a new motherboard and a new processor (good for gaming).
Because you are expert on benchmarking, Is there something that I'm missing? Is it possible a similar scenario with new PC and minus performance?
Best Regards
Vincenzo

Hi
What PSU do you have? Don't see it to be listed. I think of your PSU being incompatible with Haswell giving some issues.
As suggested, verify with GPUz. Also try Valley Benchmark at Extreme HD preset, and give us the results (screenshot, upload it to postimage.org and post the link between tags shown below)

Hi, finally I've executed:
1) A clean installation of my old PC on Windows 8.1
2) A clean installation of my new PC on Windows 8.1
How have you suggest I've executed a test with Valley Benchmark on both env and GPU-Z

Pratically there is no difference in terms of performance and I see that on some games as well as BF3 with same custom settings I have:
on old PC a range of fps (60, 105)
on new PC a range of fps (35, 75)
Have you an explanation?

  • Ok, so I have a 1g macbook Pro and I'm having an issue with the graphics card, so I believe.

I believe I'm having an issue with the graphics card. For one, when I'm using programs like iMovie '11, SPORE, or the Sims 3  for long periods (hours usualy) of time, the computer will be perfectly fine. It gets warmish-hot, like usuall, all of a sudden it will randomly freeze for 5 to 10 seconds, then shut down and reststart. This happens, espically on the Sims 3 I can play for a while, but when I try to save it will shut down on me.
Also, I got a new iPod touch 4g on the 25th, the first few times I tried syncing and downloading, it started off fine, but after 10 min. it would restart. Now it works ok, but I still monitor it just incase.
Can anyone help me understand why all of this is happening? I beleve the graphics card isn't good enough, even though it meets the standards for iLife, and The Sims 3. My graphics card is a ATI,RadeonX1600. The laptop has 2 GB RAM runs at 2.16GHz with an Intel Core Duo on OS X Snow Lepard (10.6.8). Thanks everyone.

Threads are just processes that link together like the threads in these discussions, well, maybe that is a bad example given how disjointed these get
It looks like you are not pushing the cpu or hard drive enough to cause your behavior.  Not sure what the temperature limit on that cpu is, on the newer models it is around 100-110 °C which is notciabley hot, and the system shutsdown for self protection at the thermal limit.
You could be hitting a thermal limit causing that behavior...so do you see good behavior at lower load levela on the system?  Does this only happen with when you are under the high graphic loads?
Trying to zero in on when this occurs to see if we an isolate the problem.

Had this new build up and running with no issues after latest driver installs. Had been running for 3 weeks, playing games like Advance Warfighter easily, without any temp. problems.
When i put in a DVD to play a movie system crashed and now the system only displays at 4bit  at 640 x 480 (according to Vista). Windows recognisesthe graphics card though is unable to change the display settings. Ati's own software does not recognise the card anymore though.
A bit of research has suggested either graphics card or control unit on m/b... dont know how likely this is. As all my other cards have been AGP I cant replace card for testing.
Any ideas? I'm stuck with a new PC thats outperformed by my Mrs gameboy at the moment!!

unfortunately I have bad news.  Those X19xx series are power hungry beasts.  I have the X1900XTX and have a OCZ 520 Watt dual rail that shares the amps through both +12v rails @ 38A.   After it was working for a few weeks it started random crashes under heavy load(playing EQ2).  I was thinking psu as that is a common problem, but I had very few things on my system.  I downloaded and installed ATITool to check out my card and it was running 85c and would climb to 95c and lock or hard reset.  I did notice ATITool had an amp readout and was posting from 27A-30A under load!!!  I'm afraid that your psu won't run that thing very well.  After replacing my PSU the Video card still kept locking up and had to RMA it twice and it still runs hot, 85C max, but pulls a steady 30A, the second card only pulled 27A but seemed to fry the card as I got this checkerboard pattern on the screen all the time, even when installed on another PC.
I would try posting over at Sapphire and see what they say.  I know they will recommend at least a 450w with single rail +12v@30A psu (I got a 610w psu) before doing anything.  after that hopefully things will be OK.
first thing I'd recommend is running ATITools and test, and then go from there.
    -=Mark=-
ps. make sure you get a single rail psu!!!  I got a PC P&C 610 silencer rated +12v@49A single rail of continuous power at 40c with a 670w max output.  Seasonic is also a very good psu, in fact PC P&C often use their parts.  also avoid modular PSUs as extra connections can degrade the power.

  • AMD Graphics Card Issue

This past year I switched to CC.  I then discovered the 2014 version of Adobe Premiere Pro required me to upgrade my video card.  I have Intel i7 920 running at 2.67 with 4 core with 16 GB installed and 32 GB total virtual memory on a board.  My computer guy installed AMD R9 290X. It never worked right.  In the initial testing it looked fine.  The software that came with the card showed solid performance,  when I took it home and started to use intensive video applications such as Warp Stabilizer after a few minutes the whole computer would slow down and the computer would literally stop.  We went through replacing three video cards.  All did not work.  We switched out to a R9 285.  (He sold AMD)  It worked, but I didn’t try doing the warp.  I finally did try using the Warp Stabilizer on a video last Sunday and the computer shut down.  Now the computer is acting as if it doesn’t have any accelerated video card at all. Windows says the card is operating fine.
Before I switch brands I want to make sure I have done everything. I am not excited on dropping unexpected dollars here.  The video card is listed by Adobe as approved.
Is there a diagnostic program that will show that Adobe programs are working properly with the video cards?   I am not going back to my same computer because this is over his head. If you have any suggestions, I am all ears, but this is out of my technical league.  I just want to do video.

Update 12/11/14 - Finally was able to have Adobe syc with computer.  Answer is graphics card works. Heavy graphics use such as Warp Stabilizer may cause shut down.  "Oh",  Maybe a cigarette warning would be helpful on the app. Maybe an app to signal that's what occurred or suggested techniques of maybe breaking up large clips into smaller ones. Anything would have save me hours of investigating.  I mean do we all have to be techies to use this product?

    hi Ashish1793,
If you're running on Windows 7 64bit, can you consider the following:
    1. Navugate to the Control Panel (icon views) > Display Adapters and uninstall both the Intel and AMD Display driver then reboot.
    2. Install the Intel Display Driver first then reboot.
    3. Install the AMD Dislpay Driver (the files will be extracted drivers to the C:\Drivers\VGA folder - overwrite if prompted and reboot if necessary)
When finished,  you should now have both the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and AMD R5 M230 in the Device Manager > Display Adapters
If you get a Code 43 error on the AMD Display Device Manager, try to install the AMD R5 M230 driver directly from AMD website and observe.
If you have Windows 8.1, download the Intel and AMD Display driver from the G50-70 drivers page and install them respectively.

  • MacBook Pro (Late 2011) Graphics Card issue; shall I keep it?

    Hi there,
I've recently bought a MacBook Pro (Late 2011) second hand from someone on eBay, it's going to be delivered in a couple days.
Now, after the purchase, I did some research into the production year - I know, I should've done it before really - and found a huge amount of people with the very-known issue of the Graphics card. The issue causes massive visual problems and has, on many occasions, resulted in a replaced Logic Board.
I'd like to know whether you think that this machine is a safe one to keep, or if I should send it back and try and get one from a different year?
The seller said, once I asked him about it, that the previous owner (obviously someone has had it before him) apparently had a few issues, but he himself hasn't, and is using Mavericks.
    What do you think?

Not ALL of the 15" and 17" models have had a problem with the soldering of the GPU - maybe 20,000 at the most (based on the information that I've been gathering and some of those may be reports on the same machine). It's possible that yours may be  good one.
However... I wouldn't take the chance, were it me. I've only had my logic board replaced once and it's been almost 11 months now and my machine is still working. But I'm sure that the problem will surface again (after my AppleCare runs out in 2015!) so I've decided to become less Mac-dependent in the future.
If I were you, I would just tell the seller that you're not comfortable buying a 2011 model with the discrete GPUs (the 13" models are just fine) and would shop Apple's refurbished section, looking for a non-Retina 2012 model.
    My opinion...

  • Qosmio X300-14P : Graphic card issues and vertical stripes on display

    Hi,
2 days ago, after a long notebook session of many many hours, suddenly after playing for 2 hours the game
Patrician 4 addon, it crashed in a strange and never seen before way:
The display would show strange and weird colours in all forms rushing over ther display. You could not recognize anything anymore, and after a few seconds of this the screen and the x300-14P completely froze/crashed (hung - no reaction on anything except power plug pull and/or 5 seconds push of ther power button).
I was afraid since this to me looked like a serious issue of either graphic card (nvidia chip) or display.
I hoped it was because of heat (though i have a powerful cooling pad below the notebook and heat shouldnt be a problem).
Next day (yesterday) I launched the game immediately after startup, and after a few seconds the same crash appeared again with the same strange video glitches (never saw something strange like that before).
I immediately did the 5 second power button press reset,. and then, when the first boot screen appears (the bios display hint and the loading/booting screen), there were like 2-7 vertical white stripes (on the black background) on the right side of the screen.
They wouldn't move nor go away.
I immediately turned the notebook off and it is off since then.
To me this looks really serious, as if either nvidia chip (Geforce 9800-GTX) is broken or the display.
Does anyone know something about this ?
Has anyone heard of such a problem ?
    Who knows more ?
I know, i can now connect an external monitor.
If there is no problem, this should mean that it is a x300 display problem
If the problem also appears on the external monitor, it is the nvidia gpu chip. That would be at least my guess.
Has anyone any idea about this, what it might be and what i could do ?
(i am afraid sending the x300 in to toshiba for fixing is not worth it, as it is pretty old
(it was purchased new in june 2009). fixing it is probably too expensive.
Any ideas about hthis problem ?
    I never had it before.
    Who can help ?
    Thanks
    P.S:
I was thinlking about buying the new qosmio X870, but i just saw it has no express card slot, which i need for various expansion modules (like tv and video equipment, more e-sata cards etc.pp.).
Without an express card slot i wouldn't buy any notebook, i need this slot urgently (it is like a pci-express card connection slot in a desktop pc).
To me the express card slot is vital.
Too bad many notebooks dont have it anymore.
So io might need my x300 for some time,
but what shoudl i do abpout this new strange video chip/display problem ?

    Hi,
    yes.
even windows has now deactivated the whole graphic card, saying it was deactivated because
it reported an error - CODE 43 .
the stripes are still there at boot screen and bios screen, they go away though as soon as windows loads,
but this has deacvtivated the nvidia chip (the nvidia device driver software wouldnt start at all, it says : no nvidia gpu connected (since it was deactivated by windows 7)).
looks like i have to send the x300 to toshiba for repair (maybe even mainboard replacement).
who knows how i can find the local toshiba repair company ?
    whom can i call in
    FRANKFURT AM MAIN
    GERMANY
to get my toshiba notebook repaired ?
if someone has the adress and even better telephone nummber, i would be happy.
a second question, by the way :
did someone of you ever replace the mainboard in a toshiba X300 / X305 ?
    how expensive was that ?
    thanks

  • GS70-2OD-001US Graphics card than Factory Reset Issue

After using heavy programs such as gaming and media design, everything on my laptop just shuts down. Out of nowhere it says that my video card's memory has ran out so I thought I was just overdoing it and so I restarted. I do this quite often so it came as a surprise to be that this happened for the first time. Once laptop was back up, the moment I tried to boot up anything that depended on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 765m, it would say that there was an issue with the nvidia kernel and it restarted successfully so I thought it was an issue with the graphics card. Uninstalling and Reinstalling did not work so I contacted NVidia customer support for help and they said to change power management to max, which didn't help either unfortunately.
Eventually, I just saved all my files onto my external hard drive and went for a factory reset hoping that may fix the problem, if not than sending the laptop back in to get it checked. After reset got to 100%, the computer shuts down without resetting so I waited 10 minutes and came back to start it up and it says "Windows was not successfully installed and windows need to be installed." I do not have a recovery disc or the windows 8 oem key to start my laptop back up again. Unfortunately it is a bit frustrating considering it is the only laptop that I have for assignments - typing this on a tablet - so hopefully there is a fix for it soon. Please help if you have any information. Thanks a lot.

Call MSI and do an RMA. Most likely there is an issue with the video card that needs to be fixed. Atleast, by the sound of what you're explaining that's what I would think.

Are there any known issues with the graphics cards on these Macbook Pros? Anyone know what might be causing it?
    Thanks.

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

  • Z87 XPower PCI_E2, Single Graphics Card plus Other Expansion Cards

A bit confused on the PCI-E expansion slots...
I seem to have read somewhere that it is preferential to place a single graphics card in PCI_E2 slot. Found a reference on a review:
"However for those using a single graphics card MSI recommends installing it in the second PCIe slot as this slot is connected directly to the CPU, meaning there is no latency lag as it bypasses the PEX 8747 chip"
However, the PCIe x16 Slots Bandwidth Table clearly shows only one "video card"  (any other pci-e expansion card, too?) is possible when taking advantage of PCI_E2:
                   E1    E2  E3   E5   E7
    Single:      0  x16    0     0     0
    2-Way:  x16     0    0  x16    0
    3-Way:   x8      0  x8  x16    0
    4-Way:   x8      0  x8    x8  x8
I picked up a pci-e OCZ RevoDrive 3 x2 SSD 240GB and looking to use a N770 graphics card in PCI_E2... is this even possible? Ideally, I would choose to run the RevoDrive from PCI_E1.
From reading the table, I get "no".
I called MSI support, and 2 agents seemed to believe the PCIe x16 Slots Bandwidth Table only related to graphics cards ("The table below shows the correlation between the PCIe slots bandwidth and multiple
graphics cards."). Still waiting an official response to ticket(s). I spoke with the first before I began my graphic card installation, and the second after I installed and couldn't get the RevoDrive to show in any slot when the graphic card was installed in PCI_E2.
My experience is telling me I have a problem, and I have some decisions to make moving forward. Generally speaking:
    1. Is it possible to install a single graphics card in PCI_E2 to bypass the PEX 8747 chip and achieve x16 bandwidth, and still have another pci-e in another x8/x16 slot?
    2. What is more important for the video card: x16 bandwidth, or "latency lag as it bypasses the PEX 8747 chip"?
    3. The performance of the RevoDrive is outstanding (knock on wood... hoping I can keep this card running a long time considering the volume of drive failures experience with OCZ drives). I am considering my overall day-to-day usage and wondering if I might be better off ditching the RevoDrive or the graphic card... or (oh my, GOD!) another board....
It is easy for me to criticize engineering for overlooking this potential design consideration, yet it is an outstanding board. I should have been more aware when I read the 0-16-0-0-0 config details on the PCIe x16 Slots Bandwidth Table and the detail on the PEX 8747 chip. Once of the major items that attracted me to the XPower was the heap of features and pci-e expandability. Yet, all the PCI-E bandwidth and slots don't do me any justice if I can't config my install to optimize my system's components.
I would have a hard time trying to pick another to even try to replace the Z87 XPower (it would have to be Asus Z87-DELUXE).
What would I lose or gain in keeping the RevoDrive vs the graphic card? I initially began building this system around the RevoDrive, and I can't imagine wanting to keep the system without it.
    4. What am I sacrificing/gaining in having the graphic card in PCI_E1 and the RevoDrive in PCI_E5?
    5. With two different x16 pci-e components installed, and only one of them a graphic card, does the PEX 8747 chip latency become a non-issue? Is it still preferential to keep the graphic card in PCI_E2 position?
    PSU: Corsair AX1200i
    CPU: i7-4770k
    MOBO: Z87 XPower
VGA: MSI GTX N770 Lightning 2GB
    SSD: RevoDrive 3 x2 240GB
RAM: Generic 1333 (special ordered Corsair Dominator 2400MHz)
Thanks for any additional insight and clarity!

1: connecting a single card in PCI_E2 will bypass the PLX8747 but if you use one of the other slots for something it will start to use the PLX chips again to duplicate lanes!
2: PCI-E lanes are of very little importance as you will only see a .1 to 2FPS reduction in frame rate between x16 and x8. and less lag is similar in that regard too and will have very little noticeable difference!
3: it should make very little difference to either component and changing board makes in the z87 family lines would make very little difference too as to get higher expandability you need that PLX chip to sub divide the lanes and create a extra 16 fake lanes to allow more then 2 way SLI or 3 way Crossfire on the Z87 boards as the CPU's only have 16 lanes total!
4: not much! about a hundred nanoseconds of lag, maybe 1MBP/s less on the revo drive and .1 to 2 FPS less on the Graphics card...
5: no you would need them in the E1 and E5 positions and using the PLX chips as you will have problems and both may go into x8 using only the CPU's 16 lanes total if the Graphics card is in E2 or the revo drive may not function at all as the graphics card may hog all the PCI-E lanes....

  • Macbook pro Graphic card failure

I have a Macbook pro 15 inch MB 134 model. I had the classical black screen problem which i taught that it was the NVidia graphic card failure after reading the symptoms on apple support page. However, as usual, the apple authorised service center denied the reason of graphic card and told me that it is a mother board failure and i have to replace the board with a cost of 700 $. It was unbelievable. I went to a computer repair shop who immediately told me that it is due to graphic card failure and he can fix it. Again i spoke to apple and they denied again telling that the shop is not telling the truth. They were able to fix for a reasonable price and told this can happen again in the future and apple is responsible they should replace the board for free of coast. Now my computer is working but same syptoms started recently. It was a huge dissappointment . Such a big company should recall all the models affected whether there is a problem or not. Now i am planning to buy another mac and this keeps me holding and i doubt if something like that can happen in the future again.
If anybody authorised in Apple is reading this post: Please recall all the models produced that year and replace for free. This way you can regain your reputation!!

    Saber,
This is just a user-to-user forum - no one from Apple here. Sorry to hear about your problems - there have been some issues with some graphic cards in some models of the MacBook Pro and Apple has replaced logic boards for up to four years after date of purchase. I'm not sure if your's was one of those models - you don't specify the date of your model - but it may be worth checking out.
All computers are going to fail out some point and Apple's are no exception. Sometimes they last for a decade, sometimes they're bad right out of the box. In your case Apple was right - the only sure fix for your computer was a logic board replacement, as the 'fix' you had at the other repair shop didn't stand.
Rather than have the logic board replaced now, I would just invest in a new computer, PC or Mac - depends on what you want. The reliability of a good PC is the same as a Mac.
Sorry to hear of your problems...

  • HP nw9440 Graphics Card Problem

Hello AllI'm a proud (and patient) owner of a HP nw9440 Mobile Workstation. A great laptop, Core2Duo 2GHz+, 4Gb RAM, 160Gb HDD. Still up to spec and flying if it weren't for a well known issue with the graphic card. It has an nVidia QUADRO FX 1500m graphics card. A great one, good specs, but the last avaliable driver was released in 2007 for Vista. Aincient technology.I've found numerous threads on is there a driver, how to obtain a driver, etc, etc, WHAT TO DO???!!!. :-) but not a single answer. So, let's summarise:1. There are no drivers avaliable for modern OS (Windows 7 and later, no Linux driver as well).2. There's a rumor you can force-install a Vista driver, but very likely Microsoft Update will blow it up with their own anyway next time you run Update.3. There's also a rumor you can force-install a driver from some GeForce Go 7 series with the same core (G71GLM).4. Both HP and nVidia deny responsibility for providing a working driver.  Since nobody wants to do anything, the last economicaly feasible thing to do is to change the graphics card to a similar but both compatible and with drivers for Windows 7 and/or Windows 8 That brings us to the real question: what is the list of compatible and/or recommended graphics cards for HP nw9440 Mobile Workstation laptop? Could you please provide it? Alternatively, could you please provide a working Windows 7 driver for Quadro FX 1500m? Even an OEM/WHQL one. Something that would work at all? Thank you.

Hi: This is a peer to peer forum.  No one representing HP responds to any posts made here on behalf of the company. HP does not support that model for W7 and at this point in time, since they have not developed any W7 drivers for that model, they never will. I tell people to manually install the Vista driver and no one has reported that didn't work just fine. As for windows update...if it shows a graphics driver update, then uncheck it, right click on it and hide the update and you won't have to be concerned with it anymore. To manually install the Vista graphics driver. Download and run this file.  You will most likely get an unsupported operating system error.  Close out of any error windows. This package contains the NVIDIA Graphics driver for the listed notebook models and operating systems. File name: sp34799.exe Go to the device manager.  Click on the video controller (or standard VGA adapter) needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on update driver.  Select the browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp34799.  Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then reboot.
