FPS1600 Speakers - have they given up the ghost?

I have a set of FPS1600 speakers attached to my PC. They are about 5 years old and have worked well but now seem to have stopped working. When I switch the volume on I get a flicker from the green LED but it doesn't stay on and there is no sound. An even older set of speakers seem to work OK so it doesn't sound like the soundcard. Is there anything simple I can do to test or repair - or are they kapput!?Cheers

If it has been sitting disconnected and off for a long time, the first thing I would check is the PRAM battery. If it is dead, odd problems can occur, especially at startup. The battery looks like this.

I just bought an iPad 2, but the packaging doesn't say iPad 2. have they given me the first generation?

I don't think that the box has the gen number on it. My first gen iPad box has a picture of the screen covering the front of the box, whereas the 2nd gen box just has an angled view across the iPad in the middle of the box cover (there is a picture of the box here) - it doesn't say 'iPad 2' on it, just 'iPad'
If you open the box then you can definitely tell by whether it has cameras on the front and back - there are pictures of the front and back of the iPad 2 on this page : http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

  • BestBuy LCD TV delivered w/o documentation - have they given me a used set?!

Hi, I just purchased and received delivery of a Sony KDL-52z5100 LCD HDTV. Great looking set, however, having gone through the box I just realized that it did not come with any sort of manual, warranty card or documentation of any kind. This is my first purchase of this kind, so not sure if that is typical or not. I am starting to worry, however, that this is a used or recertified TV of some sort. I purchased it through BestBuy and it was listed as new, so could it just be an innocent mistake on their (or Sony's) part? Help a newbie! Thanks

Best Buy's policy is that all products that are opened are sealed back with "Inspected by Best Buy" tape and marked down to an open-item price. It's hard to say without seeing the product itself, but were the batteries still sealed and the remote control? Usually Sony packages those items in the same bag as the remote. I find it hard to believe that you were sold a new item and given an open one, but mistakes have happened.
If the batteries were sealed I would say it was simply a missed manual during packing, however if they were scattered about, I would probably call the store who delivered it to you for resolution.
    Take care,

  • My iphone5 speakers have stopped working.  the headphones still work as does the ringer.  the phone indicates it is still in headphone mode.  does anyone know how to fix this ?

after running i disconnected my iphone headset.  since then my iphone speakers have stopped working.  i can still listen to music using headphones and the phone ringer still works but the speakers are silent.  when i adjust the volume it indicates it is in "headphone" mode.  Any idea how i can solve this problem ?

I have read in other threads with similar problems that cleaning the headphone jack/port seems to usually work.  The simplest method is to rapidly plug/unplug the headphones a few times.  See if that works.

  • Which headphones come with the iPod?  Have they changed over the yeats?

which headphones come with the ipod?  have they upgraded to remote headphones?  and what style of remote?  thanks for your feedback!

It's been awhile since I've logged on and for a very good reason. It's bc of you, PT and your incredibly hurtful remarks that have kept me away. After signing on tonight I was reminded of your insensitive and rude remarks targeted to myself,  a Brand new member that you had never met before. I know that you don't care about what I have to say but I did want to put it out there anyways...... Your comments were very hurtful and incredibly mean. For someone who obviously spends a lot of time online and who socializes with other members in this apple community, it is incredibly childish and irresponsible for you to have treated a new member so cruelly. Why would you go out of your way to BULLY A new girl who was just trying to get a few answers about a product?
Yes, maybe my comments were a little bit silly and stupid but by no means were my intentions to be hurtful or malicious.......................on the other hand, your comments were also stupid and silly. Difference being that your comments were malicious and were intended to hurt.
I don't know much about the level system and the point system nor do I care....but as far as I can see, you have not progressed very far since 2011 and I can definitely see why.

  • Given up the ghost?

    Hi,
I decided to Freecycle my formerly-beloved Indigo G3 350MHz iMac and turned it on yesterday, in order to zero out the hard drive and re-install the OS. When I turned it on, everything worked, but there were a lot of little squares on the screen (like underlying numbers). I had the original 9.04 Software Install and Software Restore. Tried to boot up on the Software Install CD; it did after a while, but got 'error 2' when I tried to erase and reinstall. Tried the Software Restore CD; it wouldn't boot in it.
Tried the Install again. Worked, but halfway through it reported that I had to move a Quicktime Updater to another folder. Couldn't find it. When I tried to reboot on its own it had a question mark. Rebooted from CD, moved the file. Tried to go through the operation again. Didn't work. Now I have a CD in the slot and presumable data still unwiped. Just wondered if there was an easy way of fixing this so that I could zero out the HD. And, just out of curiosity, what's happened to the poor old thing?
    Cheers,
    Virginia

  • Can anyone help please? I have re formatted my iMac hard drive OSX 10.6.8 and my backup HD has given up the ghost.

I can now no longer access my saved media on iTunes following the re format. Have I lost the lot, purchases and all?
Is there noway I can sync my iPad to the iMac without losing all the media on there as well? Hope someone can help! Thanks.

Here, let me explain the way you use the word "crap" in a sentence like this, especially when I'm asking for help from a total stranger such as yourself. It's rude, obviously I know now not to do something like download something like that to my computer. It's not the difficult to figure out, and obviously I'm suffering the consequences for it now. So are you planning on helping me? Or should I not reply to your next reply if it has the word "crap" in it? I'm sure this whole discussion board was created to be used in a professional way, which is how I would like to keep my responses.

  • OS 10.5 Dialup (PPP) Given Up The Ghost, Just NOT Working

I assume this is a well know problem by now. Just wanted to make my problem "official".
Installed 10.5 which is generally working well; however dial-up has just gotten worse and worse....
I cannot dial-up at all now and have given up trying all the various work arounds, and just boot up in 10.3.9. (And then suddenly it might just work under 10.5, which is weird).
When I attempt dial-up there are no dial tones, so I'm assuming the software isn't even connecting to the modem. I read that something similiar happened with 10.4. System details follows:
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Model: Power Mac G4
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 867 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB
    Memory: 1.12 GB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.2.5f1
    Serial Number: SG13900ULJR
    Modem Information:
    Interface Type: Serial
    Modem Model: Spring
    Driver: com.apple.driver.AppleSCCSerial (v1.2.6)
    Hardware Version: 7.0F
    Country:
    SKU Name: Australia
    Modulation: V.90

I had the very same problem ith my 933 Mhz G4. It also uses the same "Spring" internal modem. I got on the phone with Apple tech support, and they had me make a new "location" in the PPP control panel, and i got conected one time after doing that, but then after that I could not reproduce it, and it worked only once.
The only way i was able to get online was tyo use the included "Generic" modem scriopt, and use the "Dialup Service" option for the "Generic" modem. I do not know what the conect speed rate is since the 10.5 panel no longer tells you what your connect rate is like it did in Tiger, but from using it, it fels about as fast as the Apple Internal Modem script did in Tiger.
Leapord had this long delay in getting out, and yet it does not work with a Apple internal modem on a machine that is supposed to be compatable with Leaport??? Seems like someone dropped the ball here big time....
I also got the Blue Scrren of Death, after I took all the precautions to prevent it, including getting rid of all Program Enhancement software, and even all of their Preference files, including insalling back my original Safari program that was unaltered. So I had to do a Archive and Install. i stil had to sue the "Generic" Modem script even after the Archive and Install without saving Network Preferences.

  • Windows XP given up the Ghost

    Hi
I've just tried to Boot into my Win.Xp partition (which has worked for years no problems) and I am
    getting a msg.
\Windows\System32\config\System missing or corrupted please insert original Win.CD and on first page press "r"
    to restore/fix Windows"
Unfortunatley on inserting my Win CD nothing happens and I still get the above msg.
I'm begining to wonder if the Win CD I have is the actual original that I put on in the first place, or I'm doing something wrong?
The Win XP CD I have has the product code so how can I get the old Win XP off it's partition and then try and reinstall
    this CD?
I only use the XP for a flight simulator, not available for Mac. unfortunatley.
    Appreciate any advice
    Peter

  • Wireless given up the ghost

Have had a homehub for three years... ish. Today it has decided to no longer allow any of my laptops to connect wirelessly to it. The hub is still visible with excellent strength. I can connect by cable and have usual broadband access.
I have done the usual limited hardware understanding type things, switch off leave a while then switch on, press the wireless association button.
Any suggestions? Or is this a case of new homehub please! Thanks.

You could do a factory reset of the hub, in case the configuration has been corrupted.
On the original hub, you need to press and hold the Wireless Association button for about 20 seconds. The hub will then reset to default settings and use the wireless key printed on the back.

  • It's given up the ghost?

My iPod nano, a gift for my birthday last year, has recently developed a problem. Even when it's fully charged, it doesn't turn on; I have to restart it. Even then, I can flick through to a song, which doesn't even start, despite the iPod being in Play. It stays at 0:00, and the menu doesn't make its normal clicking noise as I scroll through.
Restarting it over and over is the only way to eventually get it to work.
When I charge it, it freezes instead of syncing/charging.
After I restore it, the problem still occurs. And then when I'm restarting it, I have to choose a language over and over.
I don't have the money to send it in for repairs. Please help!

Apple's hardware warranty is *one year* from the date of purchase. Has it been over a year since your last birthday? If so, check out the following for possible solutions:

  • Can I ask apple store to replace my MBP with Retina display? because I have the ghosting issue with it!

I bought my MBP with Retina display less than two months ago and now I have this problem which the ghost of the application that was open, remains on the background.
I took the device to apple store and they decide to change a harware of it!! now I just feel like it is no going to be repaired.
just wanna know despite that 14 days of purchase date has passed, can I ask apple to replace the whole device and give me a new one or not!

you can ask them, but they are not obligated to fulfill your request.  They are obligated to fix any issues related to defective craftsmanship as long as your mac is under warranty however.

  • Sound - My built speakers do not show in the output section in sound system preferences area only digital out hence unless I connect external speakers I have no sound - can anyone assist?

on my IMac the internal speakers have ceased working - in the sound preferences area only digital out sound is there no internal speakers to choose so unless I connect external speakers I have no sound

    Hey Jack (woofman jack)
Sounds like the micro switch inside the output jack that switches the audio from internal to external is stuck on external. Try plugging a set of buds, headphones or digital Toslink adapter in and out a few times to see if it will unstick the micro switch. You also might try jiggling a tooth pick around inside the audio output jack to see if that unsticks it? If not then you'll need to make an appointment at your Local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider and have the jack serviced.

  • All of my I work programs in iwork won't open and say they are damaged.  Any ideas.  The programs have a white circle with a line through it similar to the ghost busters logo.  Any thoughts?

All of my iworks programs, pages, keynote, and numbers have a white circle with a line through it, kinda like the Ghost Busters logo.  None of the programs will open and the error messages reads that they are damaged.  How do I repair?

What you describe is what we get for apps dedicated to PowerPc only when installed on a macintel machine.
I'm surprised by this behavior for iWork apps which are designed as universal ones.
    How were they installed ?
Did you used the installer or did you borrowed them from an other machine ?
If it's case 2, maybe the device used to move the files was not a HFS+ one.
The only correct way to install iWork is to apply the installer and the late iWork updater.

  • I love the 6th Gen. iPod Nano but it has a major deficiency, the power button. I've bought 2 and they both have given me the same issue of the power button becoming slack and not functioning. Why is this so, and how can I fix it??

    MAJOR DEFICIENCY = WASTED MONEY:
I love the 6th Gen. iPod Nano but it has a major deficiency, the power button. I've bought 2 and they both have given me the same issue of the power button becoming slack and not functioning. Why is this so, and how can I fix it??

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
